Bug#400183: tesseract-ocr: tessdata directory with content missing
Package: tesseract-ocr Version: 1.02-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, I wanted to test tesseract, but couldn't get it to work as it seems a whole directory with executables and configs is missing. from /usr/share/doc/tesseract-ocr/README: The executable must reside in the same directory as the tessdata directory I downloaded the .tar.gz from the sourceforge project and that contains a tessdata directory. The contents of that dir are not included in the package, nor in any other package I could find. Usage example: $ tesseract xwVfbbC7hv.tiff bla batch Could not open file, /usr/bin/tessdata/freq-dawg #update-db $ locate tessdata $ So concluding: a directory with vital files is missing, and that dir is expected to be in a non-FHS compliant spot. Hi, This failure prevents regina from reaching testing, so it's not available on amd64 in etch. This also causes other packages to fail to build (e.g the). About the archive rebuilt: The rebuilt was done on about 30 AMD64 nodes of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing an etch amd64 environment (not unstable). Bug#399481: libcommoncpp2: reverting patch 01_debian from ./ ... fails durring rebuild
severity 399481 normal tags 399481 unreproducible tags 299481 moreinfo thanks Scott, Thanks for the report. Btw, we already have a buildd which is backporting the packages from unstable to sarge, etch as well as a couple of ubuntu distributions as well: http://status.buildserver.net/packages/status.php?email=packages=libcommoncpp2arches=subdist=pkg-voip You can download the packages from http://buildserver.net I'm downgrading your report for a couple of reasons: 1. I can't reproduce and we have buildd's setup (buildserver.net) which are successfully backporting building the packages inside a chroot. 2. The current version of libcommoncpp2 in unstable has been 1.5.x since at least 2 Oct, which leads me to believe your build environment maybe a little out of date. Bug#398635: phpgroupware: postinst fails: /usr/share/wwwconfig-common/pgsql.get: line 77: psql: command not found
This is a duplicate of #308243. It seems to me that wwwconfig-common should be the one to depend on postgresql-client. After all, it is wwwconfig-common's scripts that call psql, not phpgroupware. I have to say this does seems like an RC-quality bug that should be fixed for etch. If wwwconfig-common isn't going to depend on postgresql-client for etch, then adding postgresql-client (and mysql-client) to the Depends for phpgroupware will solve this problem. From /usr/share/doc/wwwconfig-common/README Note! This package will not depend on any packages that are not critical. So if the package that uses this package to do a certain thing, it should depend on any extra packages, like mysql-client and similar things. Theese packages are at most suggested by this package. - Copying wwwconfig-common's maintainer for their thoughts. Jason -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#398635: phpgroupware: postinst fails: /usr/share/wwwconfig-common/pgsql.get: line 77: psql: command not found
Hi No wwwconfig-common will never depend on postgresql or mysql or its client packages. It is up to the package that depend on wwwconfig-common to add that dependency. The reason is simple: * If wwwconfig-common depend on all things that can be used by it it will have a very long list of dependencies (exim4, postgresql-client, mysql-client, apache and so on). * Wwwconfig-common is only used by postinst scripts. * If a web program only have support for postgres and nothing else, it should not depend on something that depend on a huge number of other things. So It is up to the package that depend on wwwconfig-common to depend on the things that is needed. That package is the one that know what parts of wwwconfig-common that it actually uses. It's kind of strange that the content of CCFLAGS ends up being quoted: g++ -o src/beidcommlib/Connection.os -c -Dlinux -pipe -DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT -D_REENTRANT -g -O2 -fPIC -O -DNDEBUG -DNO_DEBUG -I/usr/share/qt3/include -I/usr/include/PCSC -Isrc/beidcommlib src/beidcommlib/Connection.cpp it seems to me that there is a problem in scons or in the SConstruct file: replacing: #env.AppendUnique(CCFLAGS=-Dlinux -pipe -DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT -D_REENTRANT -g -O2 ) by: env.Append(CCFLAGS = -Dlinux -pipe -DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT -D_REENTRANT -g -O2 ) seems to fix it for me. Bug#400239: monodevelop crashes on startup
Package: monodevelop Version: 0.12+dfsg-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I started using monodevelop two days ago, got a simple project off of the ground... then closed it. Yesterday and today I've tried to open it, but monodevelop crashes on startup. It gets as far as showing the title window, the title bar changes to Welcome, and then the stack trace below comes up. I don't think I did anything unusual. I just tried removing my .config/MonoDevelop directory, and that makes it work. I have uploaded my MonoDevelop directory here so you can reproduce the problem: http://www.crackerjack.net/~faraway/MonoDevelop.tgz Thanks, Tyler = Got a SIGSEGV while executing native code. Bug#400129: nvidia-glx: fails to uninstall: dpkg-divert error
severity 400129 normal tag 400129 + unreproducible thanks On Friday 24 November 2006 11:10, Randall Donald wrote: $ sudo dpkg --purge nvidia-glx (Reading database ... 291706 files and directories currently installed.) Hmm, I wonder if this has to do with the file created by the init script. I'll try to reproduce this tonight. Hi Randall I thought that this might also be present in the -legacy packages, since the packaging is similar. When I couldn't reproduce it there, your comments about the init script caused me to try to reproduce it again. I can't reproduce this now. I'm guessing that the root cause was probably somewhere in the mixture of semi-current and obsolete nvidia-* packages on the system at boot time. When I booted i had the following packages installed: nvidia-glx 1.0.8776-1 nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-1-486 1.0.8776+2 nvidia-kernel-legacy-source 1.0.7184-1 nvidia-kernel-source 1.0.8774-2 nvidia-kernel-2.6.17-2-486 1.0.8774-2+2.6.17-8 (built locally IIRC) nvidia-kernel-2.6.17-2-686 1.0.8774-2+2.6.17-8 (built locally IIRC) Before filing the bug report at severity:serious I removed the obsolete nvidia packages, upgraded to the latest nvidia-glx, purged nvidia-glx (by first removing libgl1-mesa-dev), reinstalled both packages and confirmed that I could still reproduce the bug. However at no stage did I actually reboot. Most (all?) output in the bug report came from the last round of tests. Unless you or someone else can reproduce it, or the above gives you some new clue, I suggest closing. (I should be able to restore a backup from earlier this week if anyone really wants to pursue this). HTH Andrew V. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. When an install is attempted on such an image, the bootloader can't install because of course there are no entries in /dev in the chroot in the target. As a workaround, I have added /dev to the overrides tree for my image. However, systemimager really should be smart enough to download /dev/.static/dev and store it as /dev for machines running udev. Otherwise you wind up with unbootable images. Note that udev is default for etch. That is why I am setting this bug report RC, but feel free to differ. As it is, this will not generate working images for etch systems. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-1-xen-amd64 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages systemimager-server depends on: ii binutils 2.17-2 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii debianutils 2.17 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii dosfstools2.11-2.1 Utilities to create and check MS-D ii libappconfig-perl 1.56-2 Perl module for configuration file ii libxml-parser-perl2.34-4.2 Perl module for parsing XML files ii libxml-simple-perl2.14-4 Perl module for reading and writin ii mkisofs 5:1.0~pre4-1.1 Creates ISO-9660 CD-ROM filesystem ii mtools3.9.10.ds1-3 Tools for manipulating MSDOS files ii perl 5.8.8-6.1 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii rsync 2.6.8-2fast remote file copy program (lik ii systemconfigurator2.0.10-1 Unified Configuration API for Linu ii systemimager-boot-i386-st 3.6.3dfsg1-1 SystemImager boot binaries for i38 ii systemimager-common 3.6.3dfsg1-1 Utilities and libraries common to Versions of packages systemimager-server recommends: pn dhcp3-server | dhcp none (no description available) ii syslinux 3.31-1 Bootloader for Linux/i386 using MS -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: systemimager Source-Version: 3.6.3dfsg1-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of systemimager, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: systemimager-boot-i386-standard_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager-boot-i386-standard_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb systemimager-boot-ia64-standard_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager-boot-ia64-standard_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb systemimager-client_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager-client_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb systemimager-common_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager-common_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb systemimager-doc_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager-doc_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb systemimager-server-flamethrowerd_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager-server-flamethrowerd_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb systemimager-server_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager-server_3.6.3dfsg1-2_all.deb systemimager_3.6.3dfsg1-2.diff.gz to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager_3.6.3dfsg1-2.diff.gz systemimager_3.6.3dfsg1-2.dsc to pool/main/s/systemimager/systemimager_3.6.3dfsg1-2.dsc A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. First and foremost, it's not a requirement of policy that packages be able to build without utilizing the network. Finally, the reason why the bug is tagged unreproducible is because I am unable to reproduce it here *at all*, and because I cannot it is at most important. Don Armstrong -- It's not Hollywood. Bug#379628: [Linux-NTFS-Dev] CALL FOR HELP: Vista beta compatibility testing
On Saturday 11 November 2006 20:43, Szakacsits Szabolcs wrote: If one could send me the two ntfs images, before and after running chkdsk, then I could add the needed support, suppose the problem is indeed due NTFS changes. Think I've got it. I've installed Vista Beta2 on my AMD64 box, resized the partition from 40 to 35 GB (ntfsresize only) = Vista fails to boot. Try repair with Vista installer = installer fails to boot. Use Windows 2000 (!) installation CD = chkdsk finds and repairs errors. Vista installer now boots, run its repair function = Vista boots again. I have put the NTFS images and some other files at: http://people.debian.org/~fjp/vista/ Here is the detailed procedure I've followed. This also explains the files available from the URL above. - Install Vista in 40GB partition - From Linux: - run ntfsclone to generate 'pre-resize' image - run md5sum on all files in Vista partition - save files in Vista /Boot directory - Resize NTFS partition to 35GB (using ntfsresize only) - From Linux: - run ntfsclone to generate 'post-resize' image (needed --force) - running 'md5sum -c' shows no files changed - Run Windows 2000 chkdsk - Run Vista installer repair utility - From Linux: - run ntfsclone to generate 'post-repair' image - running 'md5sum -c' shows changes: http://people.debian.org/~fjp/vista/post-repair/md5sum.log - 1 file deleted: /pagefile.sys - 10 files changed - save files in Vista /Boot directory again - save changed files in Vista /Windows/System32/config directory - Boot Vista (boot was a bit slow, but successful) I hope the info available now will be sufficient to track down the problem. If not, I could repeat the procedure and also generate an image after running the Windows 2000 chkdsk. I could also make a copy of the the other files that were changed during the repair process. Bug#400005: Installs files in /var/lib/mailman in violation of FHS
On Thu, Nov 23, 2006 at 01:41:08PM +0100, Lionel Elie Mamane wrote: (Bug is present up to and including 1:2.1.9-2.) Mailman installs architecture-independent program files not written except at install/upgrade time in /var/lib/mailman/pythonlib/email/ . That's a gross violation of the FHS, which mandates /usr/ instead of /var/ . I'm not sure I would call this a gross violation of the FHS, though I am surprised to see these .py files in /var/lib given that mailman has other .py files it's been shipping under /usr/lib forever. 1:2.1.9-3 will make it /usr/lib/mailman/pythonlib/email, which is still suboptimal (the non-compiled files should be in /usr/share, being architecture-independent), and may technically still be a violation, I don't believe this is a violation of the FHS. The release policy has recently been updated to clarify precisely this. (the files are compiled at install/upgrade time; the compiled versions must be in /usr/lib; not sure there even _is_ a way to have sources and compiled versions separated in Python - if any Python expert can contradict me on that, please do! With the recent python helpers, it's common practice to ship the .py files under /usr/share, then symlink them to /var/lib for byte-compiling. but this has to be checked, and is doubtful, since /usr/lib/python2.4 contains so many .py files). Yes, because /usr/lib is where the python-defined include path is. Shipping arch-indep files under /usr/lib is acceptable in such circumstances; shipping arch-dependent files under /usr/share would not... File /etc/openalrc must contain string: (define devices '(arts alsa native sdl esd null)) Without this file sound in some games doesn't work (for example Chromium) or games crashes (Scorched3D). And Debian etch doesn't have man page about configure openal. But then, scorched3d and chromium are both not included in etch due to unresolved license issues. Do you have an example of a package actually in etch that suffers from this problem? In general, it's a bad idea for library packages to provide config files. If this is an issue of incorrect defaults in the library, it should set reasonable compiled-in defaults. If the problem is really that the compiled-in defaults don't work for these particular apps, then it should probably be the responsibility of those applications to override those defaults (with a config file or otherwise). I'm quite certain in any case that the last time I tested chromium, I had no sound problems; and I've just tested scorched3d as well, and it doesn't crash at all for me, it runs just fine. Are you using something other than the default sound driver on your system? Perhaps the crash only happens under arts or something? -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#399670: ok found the issue, fixed preinst script is attatched.
tags 399670 patch thanks ok i've done some more investigation the problem appears to be caused by there being something in /etc/firefox/profile that wasn't put there by dpkg and so doesn't get removed by dpkg. The result of this is that dpkg purges the files it installed but leaves the directories in place. it then seems that the firefox-iceweasel migration code spots the directories and tries to migrate your configuration. However it then fails to rename files that don't exist in the copied config based on that investigation work i started looking for the source of the problem, i found the migration code in the preinst script and have modified it to check files actually exist before renaming them, this should solve the problem (i have not tested the fix because iceweasel fails to build on my box, probablly due to a lack of memory). steps to reproduce (some steps may not actually be needed but this sequence seems to work) 1: make sure apt-utils is installed (i only mention this because i installed it while trying to reproduce, no idea if its actually needed or not) 2: remove and purge any existing firefox or iceweasel packages 3: apt-get install libgconf2-4 libgnome2-0 libgnomeui-0 libgnomevfs2-0 4: rm -rf /usr/lib/firefox /usr/lib/iceweasel /etc/firefox /etc/iceweasel 5: dpkg -i firefox_1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2_i386.deb firefox-gnome-support_1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2_i386.deb 6: touch /etc/firefox/profile/dummy 7: apt-get install iceweasel iceweasel-gnome-support firefox-gnome-support- firefox- --purge below is a log in english :) debian:/# dpkg -i firefox_1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2_i386.deb firefox-gnome-support_1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2_i386.deb Selecting previously deselected package firefox. Bug#400252: libgeda: links against libgd instead of against libgdgeda
On Fri, Nov 24, 2006 at 07:46:41PM +0100, Joost Yervante Damad wrote: Package: libgeda Version: 20061020-1 Severity: important This package is supposed to be linked against libgdgeda, however instead it is linked against libgd. Actually upstream has changed to use libgd and not the special libgdgeda any more. I will fix the build-deps and upload.
