Bug#403420: kvm-source: kvm module loads but no /dev/kvm
On Sunday 07 January 2007 05:33, Eric Evans wrote: Another thing to watch out for is that you have read/write permissions for /dev/kvm, (it's 0660, root:root here). You'll see the same error message, (Could not initialize KVM, will disable KVM support), if you don't have sufficient privileges. Hi Eric, Thanks for the information. It was a permission issue. How petty am I to forget check permission before filing a bug. But I don't think a 0666 permission on /dev/kvm is a good idea. It should rather be root:kvm ownership of /dev/kvm with permission 0660 and all required users should add themselves to the kvm group. Bug#378382: Puppetmaster init script is still broken
On Sat, Jan 06, 2007 at 05:36:51PM +, Alex Owen wrote: I do not read or write ruby... but I think the problem lies in function setpidfile in the file puppet-0.20.1/lib/puppet/daemon.rb The code looks like: Puppet.info Creating PID file to %s % @pidfile begin File.open(@pidfile, w) { |f| f.puts $$ } BUT I don't see the file being closed or sync'd to disk. The File.open line automatically closes the file again as well after it executes the closure. Ruby magic at it's finest. My suspision is that ruby needs another command/method to be called to commit this write to disk. Any ruby experts out there want to comment? While there's certainly *something* going on there, that ain't it. As of 0.22.0, though, the PID file handling has been reworked, so this bug will go away when that gets packaged. - Matt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#405606: Drop aiccu from etch?
Given that it's non-free, badly outdated, and the upstream site is providing their own repository with i386, amd64 and armeb builds (which is more than Debian's non-free tree has) I'd suggest this should be dropped from Etch. Also, it wasn't in Sarge, so there's no upgrade issue here. It's not on backports.org either. This is also the only Etch-relevant non-free RC bug left. Bug#378382: Puppetmaster works in unstable
I just tried the same procedure Alex R. Owen tried, on an unstable powerpc box, and the PID file was created fine, and had a PID in it, and puppetmaster stopped when the init.d script told it to. So something else's up, but maybe this isn't RC if it can't be reproduced (in its new variant, the empty-pidfile bug). Alex, try adding File.open(@pidfile + .%d % $$, w) { |f| f.puts $$ } directly below the existing File.open(@pidfile... line, and see if you get a /var/run/puppetmasterd.pid.[PID] file created. 0.22.0 seems unlikely to go into Etch, so that's not a solution that'll help the RC bug count. -- Paul TBBle Hampson, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Shorter .sig for a more eco-friendly paperless office. pgpg6gV4zQwU8.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#354355: Please unblock sympa/5.2.3-1
On Thu, Jan 04, 2007 at 08:46:11AM +0100, Raphael Hertzog wrote: Summary: in #354355, it has been reported that the current version in etch is the same than in sarge and it's so severly outdated that upstream can no longer support it security wise and that upstream developers would prefer having no sympa package at all instead of having this outdated version. After several rounds in experimental, the maintainer managed to get a working package of sympa 5.2.3 with the help of Jean-Charles Delepine. Please unblock sympa/5.2.3-1 (which is otherwise ready to go in) to solve this bug in etch. Done; an update of this magnitude wouldn't normally qualify for a freeze exception, but having followed the bug discussions, it looks like the only other option at this point would be to drop the package from etch -- an option that is still open to us anyway if the new sympa doesn't work out. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#378382: Puppetmaster works in testing (someone want to check?)
package puppetmaster clone 378382 -1 close 378382 0.20.1-1 severity -1 normal retitle -1 puppetmaster daemon should fail to start if PID file cannot be properly written notfound -1 0.18.2-1 found -1 0.20.1-1 thanks On 07/01/07, Paul TBBle Hampson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Alex, try adding File.open(@pidfile + .%d % $$, w) { |f| f.puts $$ } ... Thanks for your help. It seemed my problem was user error... /var was full. The root user could still set pid files as I have 5% reserved for root on /var but the puppet user could not write the contents of the puppetmaster pid file it would seem. In summary my testing shows that if there is space available in /var/run then the current (0.20.1-1) init script works. Paul Hampson's statement: I just tried the same procedure Alex R. Owen tried, on an unstable powerpc box, and the PID file was created fine, and had a PID in it, and puppetmaster stopped when the init.d script told it to. Seems to confirm that the init scripts in version 0.20.1-1 work. I am therfore closing this bug as fixed in 0.20.1-1. However I am also going to clone this bug at the severity normal as pupetmasterd should fail to start if it cannot write it's PID file (for example in the case when /var if full !!!) I hope you all agree. Regards Alex Owen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Steve Langasek wrote: On Thu, Jan 04, 2007 at 08:46:11AM +0100, Raphael Hertzog wrote: Summary: in #354355, it has been reported that the current version in etch is the same than in sarge and it's so severly outdated that upstream can no longer support it security wise and that upstream developers would prefer having no sympa package at all instead of having this outdated version. Bug#365465: gaphor and zope3/python-interface dependency
Le mercredi 03 janvier 2007 à 09:18 +0100, Fabio Tranchitella a écrit : Hi Cedric, your package gaphor is affected by a RC bug (#365465) and for this reason it will be excluded from the etch if the bug won't be solved in time. The actual package in testing/unstable conflicts on zope3 and python-zopeinterface because gaphor makes use of some of the libraries provided by zope3, but they are provided upstream and installed within the same path used by the zope3 package. This makes the package not usable on machines where there are other zope3-related packages. My proposed solution is to split those files into a gaphor-lib (or gaphor-zope) package, conflicting with zope3 and python-zopeinterface, and let gaphor depend on gaphor-lib | zope3. I'm writing this e-mail in order to have your opinion on such a change: as you could imagine, I am not comfortable to do it with a NMU. I'm willing to co-maintain the package if you think it would be the case, too. Hello, sorry for the late answer. Could you please post your NMU patch as a review it ? If it's OK for me, I will upload a new package with your patch (giving you all the credits for this patch, of course). Regards,

The package installs fine, but the daemon is only stopped on restart and not started again. I am about to fix that, I just wanted to document it here in the BTS. Bug#405799: python-matplotlib depends on python-numpy-ext
On Sat, 06, Jan, 2007 at 12:08:21PM -0600, David Moreno Garza spoke thus.. You install python-numpy then (which was not required by matplotlib!!) and you are still missing something... you need: python-numpy-ext which depends on python-numpy. So python-matplotlib should depend on python-numpy-ext . Depending on whether python-numpy 1:1.0.1-1 is going to migrate from unstable-testing before the release, this may not need to be fixed (python-numpy now contains the former python-numpy-ext contents and python-numpy-ext is an empty transitional package). Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: mpt-status Severity: serious Hi I am filling this bug to document that the restart call of the daemon is currently broken. This sadly effects the unstable version as well. The package installs fine, but the daemon is only stopped on restart and not started again. I am about to fix that, I just wanted to document it here in the BTS. I guess I'm not subscribed to the debian libmal bug tracker, but nobody forwarded the bugs to me. I will admit that I am pretty slow to update libmal, but I haven't stopped maintaining it. In fact, I just released version 0.43 last month. Perhaps this fixes 389353? It seems there are very few users of jpilot-syncmal and libmal now. Both packages recently had a serious bug that went unnoticed for months. It's true that I no longer use them directly myself, but I will continue to fix bugs (that I know about). If 389353 is the only reason for removing libmal and jpilot-syncmal, then please reconsider. Bug#405606: Readd aiccu from 2007.01.07 release
Hoi, The version of aiccu in Debian has been broken for ~9 months. We have solved the license issues that some folks seem to have, and will release an aiccu version 2007.01.07 with a 3-clause BSD license. Many fixes have been incorporated. In stead of dropping aiccu from Etch, I suggest pulling the upstream version from SixXS and keeping it. We are planning on releasing on Wednesday. Bug#405986: CVE-2006-5870: OpenOffice WMF/EMF Integer Overflow Vulnerability
Package: openoffice.org-bin Severity: grave Tags: security patch Justification: user security hole From http://secunia.com/advisories/23612/ : A vulnerability has been reported in OpenOffice, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. The vulnerability is caused due to integer overflows within the processor for WMF/EMF files. This can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow by e.g. tricking a user into opening a specially crafted WMF/EMF file. Successful exploitation may allow the execution of arbitrary code. A patch is at http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=70042 Please mention the CVE id in the changelog. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#405980: phpbb2: CVE-2006-6839 to -6841: vulnerabilities fixed in phpbb 2.0.22
Hi, Thank you. I'm aware of the new release, but need to backport the changes given that we're in a freeze. CVE-2006-6841: Certain forms in phpBB before 2.0.22 lack session checks This is Cross Site Request Forgery. CVE-2006-6840: Unspecified vulnerability in phpBB before 2.0.22 has unknown impact and remote attack vectors related to a negative start parameter. This does not seem to warrant an update in its own: everything about it is unkown. CVE-2006-6839: Unspecified vulnerability in phpBB before 2.0.22 has unknown impact and remote attack vectors related to criteria for 'bad' redirection targets. This is very vague again. Summarizing all three I do not see a 'grave' issue between them, but will see what the patches look like and whether they're acceptable for etch at this point. thanks, Thijs signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#370186: Is this bug really RC ?
After all the testing I do ask for downgrading the bug. Rationale: 1. I could detect the spinning problem in a non-Gui mode, only. It is none-Gnome to be more precise. 2. The spinning does appear with a disk inserted only. 2. I run an Thinkpad R51 since 4 years with varying debian versions. No hardware destruction so far. 3. If the typical usage pattern is graphical, it is no real problem. Therfore i ask the maintainer to downgrade the bug to important. Bug#403420: kvm-source: kvm module loads but no /dev/kvm
[ Ritesh Raj Sarraf ] On Sunday 07 January 2007 05:33, Eric Evans wrote: Another thing to watch out for is that you have read/write permissions for /dev/kvm, (it's 0660, root:root here). That sounds reasonable, but justifies downgrading this bug to wishlist. -- Eric Evans [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#376812: libglide2: Reproducible segmentation fault with Voodoo2
On 1/7/07, Michael Gilbert [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: attached are diffs of between the woody and sarge glide source. interestingly, there is no difference between the glide2x.tar.gz and swlibs.tar.gz upstream tarballs, which indicates that this issue is likely due to something added by debian. Or maybe a bug triggered by new compilers... it can be due to many things. submitter, note that the release notes indicate that the voodoo1 is not supported. are you sure your card is indeed a voodoo2 model? Yes, it is Guillemot Maxi Gamer 3D2 PCI, 12MB, 3dfx Voodoo2. Currently, due to my deep differences with the Debian project [1], I'm not interested anymore in this (nor other bugs) that I've open. So, if you know the package does work for other people with other hardware you can ignore this bug. Even if this is not currently a problem for me, I thing I should help to solve it, since it was opened before my severance from the Debian project, and I have the hardware (which is not easy to get nowadays) and an spare machine to debug. I'm afraid I'm busy in this moment, sorry; but if this bug is still open in two or three months, I will give a closer look to it, and test with different compilers, library versions and patches.
