Bug#409288: nscd: not installable in sid

2007-04-27 Thread Laurent Bonnaud
Hi,

I am going to reopen this bug because now that libssp0 has been removed
from Debian, nscd is not installable:

# apt-get install nscd
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
nscd: Depends: libssp0 (= 4.1.1-12) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Broken packages

 object would be returned:

  gst.element_make_from_uri(gst.URI_SRC, file://, )

 Now, in unstable:
  gst.element_make_from_uri(gst.URI_SRC, file://, )
 __main__.GstGnomeVFSSrc object () at 0xb7d6393c

 And if I remove gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs:
  gst.element_make_from_uri(gst.URI_SRC, file://, )

So, filesrc is in fact broken.

Also check for an absolute path following file:// in the filesrc
element. Remove redundant check and call g_path_is_absolute() on the
 unescaped location.

Sebastian, do you understand what an API is, and why changes like that
ARE NOT ALLOWED, especially in point releases?

Sure, this was just to break the software of Joe Wreschnig. Could you
please calm down so we can talk about how to get this fixed properly?
Thanks

First lets get this change in the correct context, this is only a
continuation of another change by Sébastien Moutte:

 2007-02-10 Sébastien Moutte [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 * plugins/elements/gstfilesrc.c:(gst_file_src_uri_set_uri):
Fix a bug on Windows in uri format check. Now the prefix checked
is file:// and next we check if the path after file:// is absolute.

which OTOH is a fix needed for my first change in that direction:

 2007-02-02 Sebastian Dröge [EMAIL PROTECTED]

reviewed by: Wim Taymans [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 * plugins/elements/gstfilesink.c: (gst_file_sink_uri_set_uri):
 * plugins/elements/gstfilesrc.c: (gst_file_src_uri_set_uri):
Allow file://localhost/foo/bar URLs and correctly fail for every other
hostname that one sets. This was gnomevfssrc is linked for those if
installed as it can handle it (#403172)

As you can see this change wasn't only decided by me and it also wasn't
intentional
that it breaks things in that way. Also please read the corresponding upstream
bugreport.

I agree that the fix for this bug was not at all complete and this special
case should be handled too. Is file:// the only URL that causes a problem for
you or is quodlibet using file://blabla/bla in general? (note that there are
only
two slashes after the colon)

file:// is not a valid URI, it's only the protocol part of some URI. Then
according
to rfc1738 file://blabla/bla corresponds to the location /bla on the host
blabla.

Then, if quodlibet wants to check for the element filesrc it should just
check if it
can create a filesrc element and not check if there is some random element
that might
support the file:// protocol.

Apart from that, would you be fine if I just special case file:// and allow
that as
a valid URI for filesrc as a workaround for this? file://blabla/bla would
still not
be handled and this could be argued as an API change too. Not that using an
file://blabla/bla URI worked before but you could at least set it on the
element and
the same applies for file:// too btw

I talked with Wim about this on IRC now and he also has the opinion that a)
file:// is
simply not a valid URI but b) that this needs to be fixed by special casing the
file:// URI for API stability reasons only. I'll change that in CVS for now and
also
upload a new gstreamer0.10 package with that change.

If there's still an issue then please first calm down and then file a bug
against
the relevant package.

Bye

PS: For better checking if an URI protocol is support by any element I'll also
add
a gst_uri_protocol_is_supported() function later btw...

Bug#381861: User asterisk still not created on fresh install

2007-04-27 Thread Matthias Wamser
Hi

on a fresh Install (i backported asterisk 1:1.4.3~dfsg-1 to etch)
the asterisk user is still not created.

Problem is, the script /usr/share/asterisk/bin/asterisk_fix
has no executable bit set and asterisk-config.postinst
does check this:

configure)
if [ -x /usr/share/asterisk/bin/asterisk_fix ]; then
/usr/share/asterisk/bin/asterisk_fix
fi

Depending on this bug the asterisk.postinst fails while starting
asterisk cause of the not existing user (and group)

As quick workaround the following works:

chmod +x /usr/share/asterisk/bin/asterisk_fix
dpkg-reconfigure asterisk-config

And a chmod +x asterisk_fix in your source package and
rebuilding it should fix the package.

Regards, Matthias

I don't see this on EABI, so I suspect that it is an old-ABI

Bug#421242: system run out of memory while building formats

2007-04-27 Thread Rafal Czlonka
Package: texlive-base-bin
Version: 2007-5
Severity: critical

Hi,
When the postinst script runs and it comes to 'Building formats', after
several minutes of doing so, the system runs out of memory. The process
eats all the available memory, both phisical (512MB RAM) and virtual
(1GB swap). After that the system simply freezes and is unrecoverable.

Regards,
rjc

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that

Ok, I found this

 gcc-4.1 (4.1.1-11) unstable; urgency=low

   * The Our priority are our users, remove the documentation! release.

   [Matthias Klose]

   * Only build the libssp package, if the target libc doesn't provide

in the gcc changelogs. Should have checked before :-)

What about the packages depending on libssp0? I suppose one has to wait until
the respective maintainers change the dependencies? No need to file bugreports?

Thanks, Ulf

Package: gtk-gnutella
Version: 0.96.1svn12109-1
Severity: normal

My machine is behind a firewall, which is also a Linux machine (an old
laptop running Shorewall). gtk-gnutella has worked perfectly for years. The
gtk-specific rules in shorewall are:

# Port-forward Gnutella
DNATnet loc:192.168.1.5 tcp 6346
DNATnet loc:192.168.1.5 udp 6346
DNATnet loc:192.168.1.5 tcp 6347
DNATnet loc:192.168.1.5 udp 6347

Since the last upgrade, gtk-gnutella does not work anymore. Starting it form
the command line produced a message saying I should set ancient_version_force
to gtk-gnutella/0.96.2u (2006-09-23; r0; GTK2; Linux i686), which I did.
Now gtk-gnutella starts, but at the top-right of the screen it shows an icon
saying that I am firewalled. This used to be a smiley meaning not
firewalled. There is also a clock symbol meaning this version is
outdated. Anyway, no connections to gnutella-net are shown on startup, and
no file search produces any results.

Also, when starting from the command line I get the following messages:

gtk-gnutella version: 0.96.2u (2006-08-03; GTK2; Linux i686)

At startup the program claims it has expiresd and refuses to start up
at all without cryptic user intervention.
This is a recurring grave functionality bug (see bug 340933)

Suggested fix: patch out this fascist test in the source, since debian
versions will get
upgraded when they are available... or disable it by always including a line

ancient_version_force = gtk-gnutella/0.96.2u (2006-08-03; GTK2; Linux i686)

(or whatever) in the user's .gtk-gnutella/config_gnet file

Package: gtk-gnutella
Version: 0.96.1svn12109-1
Severity: serious
Justification: none

As described in gtk-gnutella FAQ, non-stable versions expire after 90
days, while old stable versions expire after a year. Since Debian stable
versions take a long time to be released, I suggest releasing the stable
version 0.96.2 for Etch. Besides, it's more recent than the current
version on sid.

There is a reason for this expire/ban after some time. The gnutella
network is an evolving network and its stability depends on good
servents around.

I am considering this bug a serious one, so etch may be released with a
stable gtk-gnutella version.

Thanks,
Thadeu Cascardo, gtk-gnutella contributor.

Build fails on ARM with STATIC_ASSERT failures. The ARM ABI padds
structudes to 4-byte boundaries by default. The attached patch adds
__attribute__((packed)) to inhibit this on structures that need to be
a funny size.

Package: gtk-gnutella
Version: 0.9.6.1svn*

The package currently in unstable, and not in testing is very much out of date.
I made a .deb package of version 0.96.3
It works on /unstable, and contains no Lintian errors.
Can I submit this as package to become part of the current /testing branch?
it's available here: http://hjh.passys.nl/Debian/Sid

This is on a netwinder (SA-110) running 2.6.xx.

Could you please give me the exact kernel version that netwinder runs?
Also same question for europa.debian.org which seems to suffer from the
 same problem.

Also it would be nice to have the contents to /proc/cpuinfo in order to
compare with working netwinder machines (like bdale's one).

Bug#421202: libghc6-happs-dev: postinst failure related to HaXml-1.13.2

Oh! I looked a bit too quickly and saw 1.7. But the fact remains
that haskell libraries are a bit particular about the versions of
their dependencies. I uploaded a version that has versioned
dependencies to reflect this fact.

If you want to use HAppS with haxml from experimental, I'd recommend
building HAppS from the source.

version 1.17-4 to version 1.13.2-6 partially solves the problem. Now I
 get this error:

 ghc-pkg: cannot find package HAppS-0.8.8

Hmm. The register/unregister scripts seem to handle inconsistent
state a bit ungracefully. But that's really a separate issue... I'm
hoping that purging/removing HAppS and reinstalling should make that
error go away.

Bug#415638: maybe broken install?

2007-04-27 Thread Nicola Manini

Hello,
apparently the module gnuplot_x11
is built correctly in /build/buildd/gnuplot-4.2.0/src but it is then not moved
into its supposed final destination /usr/lib/gnuplot
I know very little of ia64, and have no access to a ia64 machine to experiment
here, but for anybody even vaguely familiar with that architecture this should
be an easy fix: either /usr/lib/gnuplot does not make sense under ia64 or it
should be easy to figure out why the line
/usr/bin/install -c 'gnuplot_x11'
'/build/buildd/gnuplot-4.2.0/debian/tmp/usr/lib/gnuplot/gnuplot_x11'
(see i386 log
http://experimental.debian.net/build.php?pkg=gnuplotver=4.2.0-2arch=kfreebsd-i386file=log)
was not executed for ia64.

We gnuplot users out here are very much looking forward to gnuplot 4.2.0-1
entering unstable/testing, especially since it (hopefully) holds a fix of ugly
bug #319994. Please Cyril could you spare a little of your precious time and
manage to squash this damn serious #415638 bug, so that we can finally upgrade
and be as happy debian gnuplotters as fedora/suse gnuplotters are?

Thank you! All the best,
Nick

Bug#421167: quodlibet: fails to start, claiming 'filesrc' cannot be found

 are only
 two slashes after the colon)

file:// is not a valid URI, it's only the protocol part of some URI. Then
 according
to rfc1738 file://blabla/bla corresponds to the location /bla on the host
 blabla.

Yes, I know; http://; is also not a valid URL, but it's what I was told
in #gstreamer to use to check for generic HTTP support (whether via
gnomevfs or neon), so I assumed that file:// was similar. Quod Libet
hands correctly formed URIs to the playbin to play actual files.

Then, if quodlibet wants to check for the element filesrc it should just
 check if it
can create a filesrc element and not check if there is some random element
 that might
 support the file:// protocol.

Actually I don't care if there's a filesrc element, I just care if
something supports file://. But the error message mentions filesrc
because users have no idea what Get an element that supports file://
means; they have a better idea what Install filesrc means, and this
has helped people diagnose a lot of broken GStreamer installations in
the past.

Apart from that, would you be fine if I just special case file:// and allow
 that as
a valid URI for filesrc as a workaround for this?

Yes.

 Package: texlive-base-bin

 Hi,
When the postinst script runs and it comes to 'Building formats', after
several minutes of doing so, the system runs out of memory. The process
eats all the available memory, both phisical (512MB RAM) and virtual
(1GB swap). After that the system simply freezes and is unrecoverable.

Do you have xmltex installed? If yes, then this is a (well known and often
reported) problem in xmltex. Solution: Remove xmltex, install
texlive-base-bin, reinstall xmltex.

Bug#393285: Documentation needed

2007-04-27 Thread Nagy Elemer Karoly

Dear Debian,

Leaving this package out from Etch maked my life considerebly different.
I had no idea how to apply the vserver patches later found by

cat /usr/src/kernel-patches/all//2.6.18/debian/series/* | grep vserver
after doing
apt-get install linux-tree-2.6.18
and as the stock kernel was not booting, I was fighting with
fs/built-in.o: In function `version_read_proc':

for a while before discovering the solution.
(Stock vserver kernel would not boot).

Please
a) Revive the package with some documentation or at least pointers (my
blog is http://www.kwu.hu/blog.php, if you don't have anything better).
b) Nag the kernel team to release linux-source-vserver-2.6.18 and
linux-source-xen-vserver-2.6.18 etc so people with less time/knowledge/etc
can compile their own kernel
c) Nag the vserver team to include some hints about the patches needed for
Debian vserver
d) Add a sanity check to the compile script (vserver patch? as a kernel
bugfix patch?) that returns a feasible error message #ERROR You need
to apply server-version.patch, too! that is comprehensible (and at
compile time, not at linking time).

e) All of the above
f) Something else
g) Tell me where to re-send this e-mail (I know it might not be a
security issue in the stricter sense - but users abadoning vservers
because this problem is security-related in my mind).

As I discovered firsthand, why contains two executables whose names

ships an incompatible /usr/bin/cpulimit. Could you please rename
those executables (or persuade the other packages' maintainers to
rename their versions, in which case you'll need to declare versioned
conflicts)?

Thanks!

Bug#421309: gnat-4.1: please upload 4.1.2 to resync with gcc-4.1

2007-04-27 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: gnat-4.1
Version: 4.1.1-22
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable (uninstallable)

Could you please upload GNAT 4.1.2 to unstable ASAP? As it stands,
cpp-4.1's conflict with gnat-4.1 (= 4.1.1-22) makes gnat-4.1
uninstallable on systems that don't still have suitably old GCC
installations. Moreover, GCC's tight interpackage dependencies make
it impossible even to upgrade GCC's shared libraries while GNAT is
installed, blocking upgrades of anything built against them recently
(quite a few packages, as the issue affects pretty much everything
written in C++).

Thanks!

Hi,

I've uploaded Gtk 2.10 to unstable and it changes ABI, which means that
your package will not work with Gtk 2.10 as is. The Gtk 2.10 package
added conflicts with the above version of your package to prevent any
problem, but you need to update your package to call the new
dh_gtkmodules tool: this tool will add a virtual dependency on the gtk
ABI via ${misc:Depends} to make the next transition easier -- only an
automatic rebuild will be needed for the next transition.

Updating your package should be relatively easy:

 1) Bump up the libgtk2.0-dev build-dep to = 2.10.1-1.

 2) Call dh_gtkmodules on the package(s) shipping the module(s).
If you build a library in the same source, you might need to set
an appropriate LD_LIBRARY_PATH for dh_gtkmodules to work.

 3) Make sure you have ${misc:Depends} in the dependencies of the
package(s) shipping the module(s); this should add a
gtk2.0-binver-2.10.0 dependency.

 4) If your package ships gdk-pixbuf loaders modules or input
methods modules:
a) Make sure you ship the new /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/*/loader-files.d/*
   and/or /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/*/immodule-files.d/* lists.
b) Remove any call to update-gdkpixbuf-loaders or
update-gtk-immodules or anything touching files in /etc/gtk-2.0
   in your postinst/postrm/etc. scripts.

Please ask me if anything above isn't clear!

 A concrete example of all the above changes (worst case) is libwmf;
this is how the necessary changes look like:

Package: gtk2-engines-magicchicken
Version: 1.1.1-7
Severity: serious
Usertags: gtk-2.10-transition

 A concrete example of all the above changes (worst case) is libwmf;
this is how the necessary changes look like:

Please ask me if anything above isn't clear!

Hello

I've an laptop hp compaq nx8220 with intel ich6 chipset.
When the boot prozess starts, my cpu fan will be disabled until the acpi
modul is loaded or the acpid starts.
Normaly the time is short enough so i reach only 75°C (acpi tolds me
that).
If the fsck of the harddisk run's because of 40 run's without check
(or something like this) fsck run's without cpu fan.

If this test finished and sometimes later the acpi modul is loaded it
say's 95°C.

I think this problem was exists in 2.6.18 too.

bootloader is grub 0.97-27
