Bug#424791: Let's remove ibwebadmin

2007-06-18 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi all,

I propose to remove ibwebadmin for the following reasons:

* Last maintainer upload Sep 2004;
* Orphaned since Jul 2005 with no interest in taking over;
* New upstream versions available since 2005 with no recorded requests to
  update the package;
* Has a release critical bug (affected by PHP4 removal) with no action
  since a month.

The fact that the package uses yada might also be a reason to some.

Bug#420177: Workaround not working on amd64

2007-06-18 Thread Jan Obdrzalek

Hi,
when I try
$gcc -shared -o nvidia_drv.so nvidia_drv.o

I get

/usr/bin/ld: nvidia_drv.o: relocation R_X86_64_32S against `a local symbol'
can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
nvidia_drv.o: could not read symbols: Bad value

I'm running testing (with few packages from unstable) on amd64 architecture.

Any way to fix this?

Hi there!

 Due to the recent removal of apache (including it's accompanied
packages of apache-common, apache-dbg, apache-dev, apache-doc,
apache-perl and apache-ssl) and libapache-mod-perl your package most
propably isn't able to get installed or built anymore. These are the
problems your package currently has:

libapache-mod-interchange (dependency): apache-common (= 1.3.34)

 Please either send the ftp team a removal request for your package if
it isn't able to work with apache2, or update it to build (only)
packages for apache2.

 Thanks in advance,

  File /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/arabi/arabic.ldf is asking
  for latex package named Arabicore.sty while this one is provided as
  arabicore.sty. This seems to be caused by the original package
  sources (which was developed for windows latex). This bug prevents
  using the texlive-lang-arab to produce documents. Just converting
  Arabicore.sty occurrences to arabicore.sty (4 occurrences) fixes
  the problem.

 Are you sure this warrants a severity of serious? One cannot use
 [arabic]{babel}, but one can still use the other parts which the
 package provides: There are more style files in the arabi
 subdirectory, and there's the arabtex package.

 Anyway, I'll report that upstream and ask how it will be fixed
 (renaming the file or adjusting the filename in arabic.ldf).

 Regards, Frank

Dear Frank,

Thanks for your fast answer.

I'm considering this bug serious because arabi package is one of most
important features of texlive-lang-arab. Working on large projects
could be very difficult with arabtex package. This bug could be
blocking users from using latex writing Arabic articles. However, if
you think this has a less priority, please feel free to change it.

No, it depends on Apache 1.3 and without some non-trivial amount of

Bug#429462: gunzip does not uncompress anymore, breaks dpkg-source

2007-06-18 Thread Joey Schulze
Package: gzip
Version: 1.3.12-2
Severity: grave

I'm sorry to report but the new version of gzip breaks dpkg-source in
sid and thus cannot be used for package building anymore.

dpkg-source -b package-version gives:

 dpkg-source: failure: tar -xkf - gave error exit status 2
 tar: Archive is compressed. Use -z option
 tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

The reason is that gunzip does not uncompress a stream anymore.

This is with 1.3.12-2:

finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z gunzip  ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz |
cat -  out
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out
out: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Sun Jun 17 16:21:30 2007
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z cat ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz |
gunzip  out
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out
out: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Mon Jun 18 11:21:15 2007

This is with the older version 1.3.9-2:

finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z gunzip  ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz
out.tar
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out.tar
out.tar: POSIX tar archive (GNU)
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z cat ../manpages_2.52.orig.tar.gz |
gunzip  out.tar
finlandia!joey(tty6):/tmp/work/test/z file out.tar
out.tar: POSIX tar archive (GNU)

Please pass this upstream and restore the old behaviour.

(And as a workaround, changing the inner working of dpkg-source may
be adequate as well.)

Regards,

Joey

Hi,

TSa wrote:

Mhh, sorry, no.

 The OpenOffice.org Writer produces postscript files that don't
 print on my HP2250 postscript printer. One such file is attached.
 The files can be viewed with gv. I have solved the problem by
 upgrading to version 2.2.1 from unstable.

Uh, tnhat's bad . you know have a miy. Why not using the backport?

In any case, marking as fixed in 2.2.1-1

Bug#429473: openoffice.org-gnome: openoffice crashes in 'Save As' dialog on entering subdirectory of samba share

2007-06-18 Thread Struan Bartlett

Package: openoffice.org-gnome
Version: 2.0.4.dfsg.2-7etch1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

To reproduce this bug, I load oowriter, create a new empty document,
go to File-Save As and type in a samba share e.g.
'smb://machine/myshare' and hit enter.

When the samba share loads up in the dialog, I then double-click on any
subdirectory. At this point openoffice crashes with error. Sometimes it
crashes  e.g.:

*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0xb74f76e0 ***

N.B. I can reproduce this bug identically on two etch machines (and have
personally observed similar symptoms back on sarge). Also please note
the pointer address stated may sometimes be slightly different.

gdb reports the following backtrace:

Bug#429464: r-base-dev: really needs to depend on dpatch

2007-06-18 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: r-base-dev
Version: 2.5.1~20070614-1
Severity: serious

Hi Dirk,

In that new version, you added:
   * debian/r-cran.mk: Add dpatch.mk to debian/rules stanza

However, this change now causes a lot of packages to fail to build, for
example rmpi, vr, zelig, etc.

It looks like you need to add a Depends on dpatch...

Thank you,

Bug#429475: openoffice.org-gnome: openoffice crashes in 'Save As' dialog on entering subdirectory of samba share

2007-06-18 Thread Struan Bartlett

Package: openoffice.org-gnome
Version: 2.0.4.dfsg.2-7etch1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

To reproduce this bug, I load oowriter, create a new empty document,
go to File-Save As and type in a samba share e.g.
'smb://machine/myshare' and hit enter.
When the samba share loads up in the dialog, I then double-click on any
subdirectory. At this point openoffice crashes with error. Sometimes it
crashes on first calling up of 'smb://machine/myshare'. The error
message is always like e.g.:

*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0xb74f76e0 ***

N.B. I can reproduce this bug identically on two etch machines (and have
personally observed similar symptoms back on sarge). Also please note
the pointer address stated may sometimes be slightly different.

gdb reports the following backtrace:

[New Thread -1388995664 (LWP 5808)]

Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.63-17
Severity: grave

Hi,

After the upgrade to etch, I found myself generating mails with the wrong
headers. When I went to look why, I saw:

% ls -l /etc/exim4/email-addresses*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  18 2007-04-15 16:55 /etc/exim4/email-addresses -
../email-addresses
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 208 2006-09-21 12:13 /etc/exim4/email-addresses~
% ls -l /etc/email-addresses
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 312 2003-12-19 16:41 /etc/email-addresses

The file with a tilde was the remnant of at least one edit.
And those edits are now gone.

% dpkg -s exim4-config | grep email-ad
 /etc/email-addresses 6bea09fbb18e4676012105fa5fc726c6
% dpkg -L exim4-config | grep exim4/email-addresses

/etc/exim4/email-addresses

The package is owning the file (symlink) in /etc/exim4, but is not declaring
it a conffile.

On sarge, exim4-config did not include /etc/exim4/email-addresses in the
package, and there was no bug.

This is blatant data loss. :((

Nonsense. It does not render the full office suite unusable that you
can't write to some particular place.

 To reproduce this bug, I load oowriter, create a new empty document,
 go to File-Save As and type in a samba share e.g.

And on sid? And with the OOo from www.backports.org on etch?

 Instead my guess is that we have a bug in the structures created by
 /usr/lib/openoffice/program/ucpgvfs1.uno.so - which would make this an
 openoffice.org-gnome bug.

Maybe, there at least were fixes there in the development after 2.0.4
iirc.

Bug#429473: openoffice.org-gnome: openoffice crashes in 'Save As' dialog on entering subdirectory of samba share

2007-06-18 Thread Struan Bartlett

Rene,

Thanks for the response. Sorry this came through twice. The first report
had some typos in it. I'm glad you merged them.

Apologies also if I didn't understand the severity rating system
properly. It seemed to me this bug did render the openoffice.org-gnome
vfs interface unusable - although I accept smb isn't the only protocol
gnome vfs provides - however as I thought it was the function of this
package to provide the gnome-vfs interface, this was why I rated it as
grave.

Sorry again, I don't have sid available for testing. I wasn't aware
there were OO builds on backports.org, but I will try these.

Correct. But as you said, smb is not the only one. I'd agree with you
more if gnome-vfs would be broken completely. (well, maybe that is the
case, but...)

FWIW, -gnome also contains the gconf2 interface, but that's probably use by
no-one...

 Sorry again, I don't have sid available for testing. I wasn't aware

Please try, but please be also aware that it might not be fixed in etch
if it's fixed in sid (unless I find the patch which fixed it for 2.2.1)

Don't have (currently) any smb server/share to try myself, though.

Package: gnat-4.1
Version: 4.1.1-22
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable (uninstallable)

Could you please upload GNAT 4.1.2 to unstable ASAP? As it stands,
cpp-4.1's conflict with gnat-4.1 (= 4.1.1-22) makes gnat-4.1
uninstallable on systems that don't still have suitably old GCC
installations. Moreover, GCC's tight interpackage dependencies make
it impossible even to upgrade GCC's shared libraries while GNAT is
installed, blocking upgrades of anything built against them recently
(quite a few packages, as the issue affects pretty much everything
written in C++).

Thanks!

 I suspect this is only an issue for the non-free version of unzoo,

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on 64 bit arches with the following
error:
dh_install --sourcedir=debian/tmp --list-missing
dh_install: libxmmsclient++0 missing files (usr/lib/libxmmsclient++.so.*),

I can find it generating an libxmmsclient++-glib.so.0, but not a
libxmmsclient++.so.* in the buildd log. It doesn't seem to enter
the xmmsclient++ directory on the 64 bit arches.

Bug#429196: knowledgeroot is not vulnerable in stable

2007-06-18 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi,

 Please mention the name CVE-2007-3215 in the changelog when fixing
 this bug. A security update for stable may be necessary.

The stable version of knowledgeroot does not use the vulnerable code in
question. Hence no stable update is necessary. knowledgeroot is not present
in oldstable.

However, unstable of course still needs to be fixed, because the code itself
is still insecure, and it's a priority to get these duplicated copies of

  I'm sorry to report but the new version of gzip breaks dpkg-source in
  sid and thus cannot be used for package building anymore.

 I can't reproduce this problem. For example:

   $ gunzip  gzip_1.3.12.orig.tar.gz | cat -  /tmp/out
   $ file /tmp/out
   /tmp/out: tar archive

 Also just talked to James Troup who is in the same room here at Debconf,
 and he's running this version of gzip on various buildd systems... so
 I'm confused about what might be wrong.

  Please pass this upstream and restore the old behaviour.

 More research will be required to understand why this is a problem on
 your system and not on mine. Any thoughts?

Great!

Any idea at where to look?

Joey

Bug#429462: gzip: /bin/gunzip broken

2007-06-18 Thread Philipp Matthias Hahn
Package: gzip
Version: 1.3.12-2
Followup-For: Bug #429462

/bin/gunzip is broken in environments, where $PATH does not include
/bin. For me that is while using bsmtpd (Batched SMTP Daemon, no
longer in Debian =etch), since the UUCP Execution Daemon uuxqt only
allows a very limited list of programs to be execute remotely via UUCP.

The culprit is: /bin/gunzip
#!/bin/sh
PATH=${GZIP_BINDIR-'/usr/bin'}:$PATH

exec gzip -d $@

Looking at the package content shows:
$ dpkg -c gzip_1.3.12-2_i386.deb
...
-rwxr-xr-x root/root65 2007-06-14 06:19 ./bin/gunzip
-rwxr-xr-x root/root 53868 2007-06-14 06:19 ./bin/gzip

Since there is no gzip in /usr/bin/, but in /bin/, this fails!
$ PATH= /bin/gunzip
/bin/gunzip: line 3: exec: gzip: not found

Removing the /usr prefix solves this:
$ PATH= /bin/gunzip
gzip: compressed data not read from a terminal. Use -f to force
decompression.

I don't know if this is the fault for dpkg-source -x failing also, but
it would likely think so. If not, please clone this report.

Please fix this ASAP, since this bug causes data loss! Luckily bsmtpd by
default does do backups of those emails and I was able to recover them.

The same problem also exists in the files on CTAN, and probably shows up
on every system which has a case-sensitive filesystem (i.e. also on Mac
OSX).

What do you suggest? Should we rename the file to Arabicore.sty with
capital A, or rather change arabic.ldf (and probably other files) and
replace Arabicore with arabicore?

Thank you in advance, Frank

Yes please, keep only the filename with lowercase letters and/or
eventually change the line of code in arabic.ldf that calls it.
I should post soon an update to the package with some corrections other
improvements. I got very busy these last time.

Thank you very much.

Bug#429197: owl-dms is not vulnerable in stable

2007-06-18 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi,

 Please mention the name CVE-2007-3215 in the changelog when fixing
 this bug.  A security update for stable may be necessary.

The stable version of knowledgeroot does not use the vulnerable code in

However, unstable of course still needs to be fixed, because the code
itself is still insecure, and it's a priority to get these duplicated

From your changelog:
  * Removed libphp-phpmailer, libphp-phplayersmenu, libphp-pclzip from
Depends because this package has a copy of them.

That is definately the wrong way around. You should be replacing any shipped
copies with the packaged ones! The point is threefold:
* Security bugs like these can be fixed once instead of across many packages;
* There's less code/space in total on a user's system;
* Users will benefit from bugs fixed in the master package of that library.

thanks,
Thijs

 I'm sorry to report but the new version of gzip breaks dpkg-source in
 sid and thus cannot be used for package building anymore.

I can't reproduce this problem. For example:

$ gunzip  gzip_1.3.12.orig.tar.gz | cat -  /tmp/out
$ file /tmp/out
/tmp/out: tar archive

Also just talked to James Troup who is in the same room here at Debconf,
and he's running this version of gzip on various buildd systems... so
I'm confused about what might be wrong.

 Please pass this upstream and restore the old behaviour.

More research will be required to understand why this is a problem on
your system and not on mine. Any thoughts?

Bdale

Hi Dirk,

In that new version, you added:
   * debian/r-cran.mk: Add dpatch.mk to debian/rules stanza

However, this change now causes a lot of packages to fail to build, for
example rmpi, vr, zelig, etc.

It looks like you need to add a Depends on dpatch...

Thank you,

Bug#429192: glpi is not vulnerable in (old)stable

2007-06-18 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi,

 Please mention the name CVE-2007-3215 in the changelog when fixing
 this bug. A security update for stable may be necessary.

The stable version of glpi does not use the vulnerable code in question. Hence
no stable update is necessary.

However, unstable of course still needs to be fixed, because the code itself
is still insecure, and it's a priority to get these duplicated copies of
phpmailer out of the archive.

Thijs

Bug#429194: wordpress not vulnerable in stable

2007-06-18 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi,

This is just to note that wordpress in stable does not contain the phpmailer
class, so an update to stable is not necessary.

From a cursory look the unstable version does not call the vulnerable
phpmailer code in question, but in any case getting it replaced with the
Debian copy of phpmailer is a priority.

Bug#415738: Reproduced on big endian mips

2007-06-18 Thread Thiemo Seufer
The same happens on big endian mips. Running the benchmark manually (on
a bcm1480) has a ~90% chance to succeed. Sometimes it fails due to a
division-by-zero error in benchmark_cps, the second argument time
is occasionally zero.

AFAICS possible workarounds are:
 - define OS_TIMER for all linux platforms
 - make the benchmark loop run longer

Bug#406455: Similar issues for running acroread/firefox(32bit) with ia32-libs-gtk installed.

2007-06-18 Thread P.C.Chan

Hi there,

Over the weekend I added linux to my new refurbished HP a1677c based
on the amd64 unstable stream. I had been running Debian ia32 unstable
distribution for many years,

Yet this is my first venture on the 64bit SMP linux land.

I am very pleased that the amd64 unstable stream is almost perfect.

All sound, video, usb, lan, wireless keyboard and mouse, openoffice and
media applications work correctly under 64bit linux.

The only outstanding major issue is that 32bit only applications like,
acroread/firefox, still tend to look for 64bit gdk/pango stuff by
mistake after installing ia32-libs-gtk_1.0_amd64.deb.

For example the 32 bit applications would be looking for
/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loader instead of
/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loader.32 and /etc/pango/pango.modules instead
of /etc/pango32/pango.modules. They crashed or rectangles showed up in
place of text inside the menu and the index panels.

The 32bit applications would work if we rename
/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loader.32 as /etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loader and
copy /etc/pango32/pango.modules to /etc/pango/.
(However keeping them that way will break all 64bit applications using
gdk/pango. )

The version of gtk in ia32-libs-gtk is 2.4 while the version of the
regular stuff is 2.10. (I suppose we spend less time in porting to the
emul.) The acroread wrapper is also looking at the wrong place in gtk
version detection. (The wrapper cannot handle a gtk minor version of
getter than 9 anyway, I usually worked around that by hard coding the
version.)

It looks like the 32bit emul structures are somewhat there, but the
32bit applications just do not know how to follow. Are there any
recommended procedures to ensure 32 bit applications would make use of
the 32bit emul structures properly? What else could we do, other than
setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH?

Currently I use iceweasel and other pdf readers instead. If I have to
run acroread, I'll touch up the structure manually before and after.
Therefore it is not a show stopper. However we may hit this issue any
time we run a 32 bit gtk related application without using a full
chroot. It would be like to have it fixed. Hopefully some small
tweaks in the is32-libs-gtk package would make it work.

BTW sun-java6-plugin package is i386 only. I need a 64 bit java plugin
to work with iceweasel (64bit). I've downloaded the 64bit jdk from sun,
I am not sure where the mozilla plugin is. There is one from
classpath/gcjwebplugin but it is of version 1.4. Jre/jdk from sun is
1.6 already. I wonder if there is anything newer out there.

Regards,
P.C.

Package: xulrunner
Version: 1.8.0.7-1
Severity: serious

Hi!

This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions
are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in
the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages.

It seems this source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

xulrunner-1.8.0.7/directory/c-sdk/ldap/docs/draft-ietf-ldapext-ldap-c-api-05.txt

xulrunner-1.8.0.7/netwerk/protocol/ftp/doc/rfc959.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
   license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
   the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files,
and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your
package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take
into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the
list of exceptions under Known exceptions at
http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#428968: openssh-server: logging in using my shared keys no longer working after upgrade

2007-06-18 Thread keith001
For what it's worth, I encountered the same problem after updating.

My sshd config used to read:
## commented out for password ssh: ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
PasswordAuthentication no
which I understand:
- don't not process passwords at sshd level
- yes to Challenge/Response (handled by pam if I remember correctly)

Adding:
ChallengeResponseAuthentication yes
made it work again.

Which would mean that:
- the default value to ChallengeResponseAuthentication switched from Y to N
with this update;
- people who report being surprised of having PasswordAuthentication no in
their config were
probably using challenge/response as I did.

I think I remember there was a reason for using challenge/response through pam
instead
of direct password.
I see some activity about that in the changelog (1:4.1p1-1 for instance, says:
Disable ChallengeResponseAuthentication in new installations, returning
 to PasswordAuthentication by default, since it now supports PAM and
 apparently works better with a non-threaded sshd (closes: #247521).)

Anybody knowledgeable has an opinion?

Thanks

Bug#429140: RM: rivet -- RoM; dead upstream; no users

apache and apache2.

I haven't heard from David Welton yet.

I think rivet may have to be removed - I'll wait some more to see if
David has anything to add, then file the removal bug.

No, it depends on Apache 1.3 and without some non-trivial amount of
coding, won't be easily ported to Apache 2.0, so you can go ahead and
remove it.

Asking for removal with this bug report. According to popcon there are 11
installations and no users :-)

Bug#424690: CVE-2007-1673: denial of service (infinite loop) in zoo and unzoo

Hello Steve,

I am sorry to tell you that the version of unzoo in Debian is affected,
too. I have tested to unextract a prepared .zoo file with Debian's unzoo
and the infinite loop occured...
The code in unzoo is not the same as the code in zoo (it is not just a
subset or some copy-paste thing). The patch that is provided with the
CVE announcement applies to zoo, but not unzoo, which makes fixing the
issue a lot more difficult for the maintainer (i.e. me, sigh!).
However, I have not yet found the time to adopt the patch to unzoo. Any
help is very much appreciated!

Cheers,
Fabian.

Bug#415738: Reproduced on big endian mips

 The same happens on big endian mips. Running the benchmark manually (on
 a bcm1480) has a ~90% chance to succeed. Sometimes it fails due to a
 division-by-zero error in benchmark_cps, the second argument time

 AFAICS possible workarounds are:
  - define OS_TIMER for all linux platforms
  - make the benchmark loop run longer

I took the first approach, for mips/mipsel only. Successfully test-built
on mips/sid.

 I could solve the problem by hand with a simpler procedure:

 rm /usr/share/man/man5/modules.5.gz
 apt-get -f install

Then you have to install all forthcoming versions of module-init-tools
with force, because there are the older entrys in the dpkg database
/var/lib/dpkg/diversions left...

Nice to know, but why is the file not deleted when modutils is removed?

Good question, but it's already too late. Like a bunch of people, I
removed modutils a while ago...

I think this is related to an API change and recent upload of a new FLAC
Library, from libflac-dev's changelog:

  * New upstream release. closes: #405167, #411311
- libOggFLAC and libOggFLAC++ have been merged into libFLAC, so
  remove their corresponding packages.
- Because of the API changes required to effect the above, there has
  been yet another soname bump. libflac7 - libflac8 and
  libflac++5 - libflac++6. Emails have been dispatched to the
  maintainers of dependent packages.

The Full Build log is available and can be viewed at:

bye,
- michael
