Bug#431494: fails to install
Dear Richard, sorry for answering that late - it seems this bug report didn't make it to the maintainer address (a list). Richard Salts [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: jadetex Version: 3.13-8 Severity: serious --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... done. Package color Error: No driver specified. See the color package documentation for explanation. This is a duplicate of texlive-base-bin's bug #425803. It's been solved for new installs or upgrades, but in order to fix your system now that it's broken, you need to manually reinstall some packages with dpkg --force-confmiss. Please get the deb files for texlive-base, texlive-base-bin, texlive-latex-base, texlive-latex-extra texlive-pictures (they might already be in /var/cache/apt/archives, but make sure you got the recent ones) and install each of them with dpkg -i --force-confmiss name_of_the.deb Don't care if the configuration of one or more of them fails, just proceed until the end, that should fix it, and finally all should be configured. To be sure, call dpkg --configure -a at the end. Regards, Frank -- Frank Küster Single Molecule Spectroscopy, Protein Folding @ Inst. f. Biochemie, Univ. Zürich Debian Developer (teTeX/TeXLive)

Bug#433299: backuppc: Conf{RsyncArgs} needs --devices option changed to -D
Package: backuppc Version: backuppc Severity: grave Tags: patch Justification: renders package unusable I noticed that servers upgraded to etch started silently failing backups with fileListReceive failed error. Apparently special files are causing breakage in the new version. In config.pl, the fix was to modify Config{RsyncArgs} argument from --devices to -D, in order to instruct it to do special files. Alternatively, adding the --specials argument also fixed. That's a known upstream issue, btw, targetted to be fixed by September 2007. I'm not sure whether this makes it completely unusable - if not, I'd rather keep a separate important bug and make it installable with TL 2007 for the time being. If it is unusable, we'll have to wait, anyway. Regards, Frank -- Frank Küster Single Molecule Spectroscopy, Protein Folding @ Inst. f. Biochemie, Univ. Zürich Debian Developer (teTeX/TeXLive)

Bug#433286: xsupplicant: FTBFS: Versioned Build-Depends on linux-kernel-headers
Daniel Schepler [EMAIL PROTECTED] (16/07/2007): Your package has a versioned Build-Depends on linux-kernel-headers. However, this package has been removed from sid, which makes the Build-Depends unsatisfiable. Please upload a new version removing this. Please note that just removing the B-D isn't sufficient, because ./configure doesn't detect linux/wireless.h, although it is properly installed, for a reason I haven't been able to figure out (yet). Bug#432414: vcdimager is GPLv2 or later, debian/copyright says GPLv2 only
On Mon, Jul 16, 2007, Nicolas Boullis wrote: The debian/copyright file states the following: | This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify | it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by | the Free Software Foundation; version 2 dated June, 1991. However all files in vcdimager have this mention: | This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify | it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by | the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or | (at your option) any later version. This is a very important distinction now that GPLv3 is out and is incompatible with GPLv2. While I agree to fix this (but I will prepare a package for the latest libcdio first), why do you think it is serious? As far as I un derstand licensing, I am allowed to take some GPL v2 or above and treat it at my option as GPL v2, and then release it as GPL v2 only. Am I missing something? Unless so, then the correct severity would be wishlist... I'm not saying a licence violation or anything illegal is occurring, I am saying that the exact licensing terms in debian/copyright, required by policy 2.3 (every package must be accompanied by a verbatim copy of its copyright and distribution license), are misrepresented. Hence the serious policy violation. Regards, -- Sam. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

On Mon, 16 Jul 2007, Florent Bayle wrote: Package: ncurses-bin Version: 5.6+20070714-1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Hi, Since I've upgraded ncurses-bin (and other ncurses packages) to the lastest version, my whole system is broken. Did usplash change recently? invoke-rc.d: initscript networking, action restart failed. # It seems that this bug is related to : - ncurses-bin: tput now fails at boot time since the last upgrade - lsb-base: calls tput - usplash: activate fancy boot messages in lsb-base. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libstlport5.0-dev Severity: serious User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: goal-ldbl128 Discussed in http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg01173.html With glibc-2.5 and gcc-4.1.2 (and gcc-4.2), the 'long double' data type did change from a 64bit representation to a 128bit representation on alpha, powerpc, sparc, s390. To allow partial upgrades of packages, we will need to rename all packages holding libraries with the long double data type in their API. Both libc and libstdc++ do not need to be renamed, because they support both representations. We rename the library packages on all architectures to avoid name mismatches between architectures (you can avoid the renaming by supporting both datatype representations in the library as done in glibc and libstdc++, but unless a library is prepared for that, it does not seem to be worth the effort). It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl; please wait with the renaming if the package depends on another library package which needs renaming. This package has been indentified as one with header files in /usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- This package has been removed from unstable so this bug no longer applies. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ ---End Message---

---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- This package has been removed from Debian unstable. Bug#433357: some clues perhaps
I've also encountered this problem (not even having usplash installed anymore, just a leftover /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh - that's what you get for not purging packages...). In lsb-base-logging.sh, there are some tests for terminal width via tput cols. For some reason, the result of that is -1, from which stuff gets substracted. This is then given to tput hpa (like tput hpa -9) as an argument, which in result complains about an invalid option. I got rid of the problem purging usplash, but it's quite annoying. I don't really know where the problem is (perhaps the terminfo data got some faulty update), but one problem is definitely that usplash doesn't handle the unexpected tput cols output well. Bug#432902: marked as done (New version available - blocking update of gpe-calendar)
Your message dated Mon, 16 Jul 2007 18:46:53 +0100 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Closing bug not closed in the changelog has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libeventdb Version: 0.30-4 Severity: serious The latest release of gpe-calendar requires libhandoff and updates to libeventdb and libgpevtype which were released at the same time (during DebConf7). libhandoff has now been accepted into Debian from the NEW queue so I want to be able to upload the updated gpe-calendar upstream release to close the RC bug #425093. However, the new release of gpe-calendar needs the latest release of libeventdb (and libgpevtype). The updated releases of libeventdb has not shown up in the DEHS because the watch file is looking at the old handhelds.org location, not the current linuxtogo server. I have built the latest versions locally in order to test the updated gpe-calendar and there appear to be no compatibility problems with other gpe applications using these libraries (which, together, form the latest GPE release). Please can the new upstream releases be uploaded to Debian so that I can close my RC bug? (Filing same report for libgpevtype and tagging both as blocking 425093.) Also, debian/control could do with having ${binary:Version} to replace the deprecated ${Source-Version} (this fixes a lintian warning) and v0.90 bumps the SONAME to libeventdb2 so this fix will also have to spend some time in the NEW queue so now might be a good time to add a libeventdb2-dbg debug package (likely to become mandatory in Policy eventually). A simple debian/libeventdb2.install file is needed for this: debian/tmp/usr/lib/libeventdb.so.* I've put a test package in my trivial repository that includes all these fixes: http://linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages/pool/main/libe/libeventdb/libeventdb_0.90-1.dsc As this is a new upstream release, a .diff would not be particularly useful - the .diff.gz is available at: http://linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages/pool/main/libe/libeventdb/ (Note that the lintian warning: shlib-with-executable-stack usr/lib/libeventdb.so.2.0.0 remains - I'll take up this issue with upstream and see if it can be fixed for the next release.) The SONAME bump requires a rebuild of gpe-contacts which is not a problem itself. It does require one change to libdisplaymigration which actually fixes the bug in libdisplaymigration (unable to install) - Package: libdisplaymigration0-dev Section: libdevel Priority: optional Architecture: any Depends: libdisplaymigration0 (= ${binary:Version}) instead of Depends: libdisplaymigration0 (= ${source:Version}) This makes libdisplaymigration0 binNMU safe. As ever, I'm happy to be co-maintainer for any or all of these packages - there are frequently times when various GPE packages have to be updated and uploaded together and sharing the maintenance would make a lot of sense. Your message dated Mon, 16 Jul 2007 19:06:15 + with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#430262: fixed in hk-classes 0.8.3-2 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libhk-classes-dev Severity: serious User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: goal-ldbl128 Discussed in http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg01173.html With glibc-2.5 and gcc-4.1.2 (and gcc-4.2), the 'long double' data type did change from a 64bit representation to a 128bit representation on alpha, powerpc, sparc, s390. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: hk-classes Source-Version: 0.8.3-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of hk-classes, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: hk-classes_0.8.3-2.diff.gz to pool/main/h/hk-classes/hk-classes_0.8.3-2.diff.gz hk-classes_0.8.3-2.dsc to pool/main/h/hk-classes/hk-classes_0.8.3-2.dsc libhk-classes-dev_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-dev_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-mdb_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-mdb_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-mysql_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-mysql_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-odbc_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-odbc_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-paradox_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-paradox_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-postgres_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-postgres_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-sqlite3_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-sqlite3_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-sqlite_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-sqlite_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes-xbase_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes-xbase_0.8.3-2_i386.deb libhk-classes15ldbl_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/libhk-classes15ldbl_0.8.3-2_i386.deb python-hk-classes_0.8.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hk-classes/python-hk-classes_0.8.3-2_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#433357: some clues perhaps
On Mon, 16 Jul 2007, Christian Ohm wrote: I've also encountered this problem (not even having usplash installed anymore, just a leftover /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh - that's what you get for not purging packages...). In lsb-base-logging.sh, there are some tests for terminal width via tput cols. For some reason, the result of that is -1, from which stuff gets substracted. This is then given to tput hpa (like tput hpa -9) as an argument, which in result complains about an invalid option. That could be a -1 for a couple of reasons - I'll check to see if I introduced an initialization bug in the restructuring changes to the ncurses library (the most likely problem that comes to mind). I got rid of the problem purging usplash, but it's quite annoying. I don't really know where the problem is (perhaps the terminfo data got some faulty update), but one problem is definitely that usplash doesn't handle the unexpected tput cols output well. Hope that helps, it sounds useful (thanks) -- Thomas E. Dickey http://invisible-island.net ftp://invisible-island.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#423933: libbfd-2.17.so not found
Steve Langasek wrote: [snip] I find four packages in the archive that are picking up a dependency on 'binutils' by way of shlibs: ggcov, nitpic, skyeye, and sysprof. nitpic needs libbfd-2.16.91.so, that's nice... ggcov, sysprof, and skyeye at least manage to have binary packages in stable that depend on the matching version of binutils. But all four packages are buggy, as is binutils for providing broken shlibs. The shlibs provided by binutils are effectively not supportable in a stable release; which means that until binutils has reasonable shlibs (perhaps using a virtual package name, the way apt does for its library?), packages should not be dynamically linking to libbfd. FYI, upstream has no plans to introduce a stable interface to libbfd ever (for the same reason the kernel folks don't do a stable device driver binary interface). Even if their DRI work isn't ready for Lenny, we'll definitely be pulling their deobfuscated code. Put aside what we do for Lenny, is there any technical problem in terms of user support if we move this driver to non-free and let vesa and/or vga be the default for nvidia users? AFAIR, we still prefer this driver way over the hard non-free binary-only driver from NVidia. In other words, given that the project nouveau is making progress, changes are merged back, and this driver is better then the binary-only driver, I think keeping the driver in main is the right decision. Please upload a new version removing this. -- Daniel Schepler ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: iputils Source-Version: 3:20070202-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of iputils, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: iputils-arping_20070202-2_i386.deb to pool/main/i/iputils/iputils-arping_20070202-2_i386.deb iputils-ping_20070202-2_i386.deb to pool/main/i/iputils/iputils-ping_20070202-2_i386.deb iputils-tracepath_20070202-2_i386.deb to pool/main/i/iputils/iputils-tracepath_20070202-2_i386.deb iputils_20070202-2.diff.gz to pool/main/i/iputils/iputils_20070202-2.diff.gz iputils_20070202-2.dsc to pool/main/i/iputils/iputils_20070202-2.dsc netkit-ping_20070202-2_i386.deb to pool/main/i/iputils/netkit-ping_20070202-2_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
