Dear Richard,

sorry for answering that late - it seems this bug report didn't make it
to the maintainer address (a list).

See the color package documentation for explanation.

This is a duplicate of texlive-base-bin's bug #425803. It's been solved
for new installs or upgrades, but in order to fix your system now that
it's broken, you need to manually reinstall some packages with dpkg
--force-confmiss. Please get the deb files for

texlive-base,
texlive-base-bin,
texlive-latex-base,
texlive-latex-extra
texlive-pictures

(they might already be in /var/cache/apt/archives, but make sure you got
the recent ones) and install each of them with

dpkg -i --force-confmiss name_of_the.deb

Don't care if the configuration of one or more of them fails, just
proceed until the end, that should fix it, and finally all should be
configured. To be sure, call dpkg --configure -a at the end.

Regards, Frank

Bug#433299: backuppc: Conf{RsyncArgs} needs --devices option changed to -D

2007-07-16 Thread Mark
Package: backuppc
Version: backuppc
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

I noticed that servers upgraded to etch started silently failing backups
with fileListReceive failed error. Apparently special files are causing
breakage in the new version. In config.pl, the fix was to modify
Config{RsyncArgs} argument from --devices to -D, in order to instruct it to
do special files. Alternatively, adding the --specials argument also fixed.

In reference please also see the following URL:

Bug#432513: Segmentation fault in domAddNsDef()

 Segmentation fault (core dumped)

This is apparently the same issue as CPAN #26450, fixed in upstream SVN
(svn://axkit.org/XML-LibXML/trunk) r664.

Patch attached; this fixes the segmentation fault for me and makes
libxml-feed-perl build again.

This is fine, sbuild takes the first one anyway. And pbuilder checks every

works. Are you sure that you aren't hit by #425803? To detect that,
run

fmtutil --byfmt latex

and if that fails, follow the instructions in that bug, i.e. run

dpkg -i --force-confmiss deb_name

on the downloaded debs of

texlive-base,
texlive-base-bin,
texlive-latex-base,
texlive-latex-extra
texlive-pictures

(each individually, don't care if some still fail, except after the last one).

 hi simon,

this a forwarded bug report for Qt4 on alpha:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=433031

 We have a prospective patch, but we need more eyeballs on it;
do you know who implemented the recent changes on
 src/corelib/arch/qatomic_alpha.h ?

it could be nice to forward the bug report to the right person.

I'm the guilty party that did the copy+paste error in qatomic_alpha.h :(. The
correct patch should look like this (fetch-and-add is supposed to return the
original value before the addition):

err, that means your package is uninstallable in sid, as tetex is gone,
and the texlive-latex-base version is 2007-10.

That's a known upstream issue, btw, targetted to be fixed by September
2007. I'm not sure whether this makes it completely unusable - if not,
I'd rather keep a separate important bug and make it installable with TL
2007 for the time being. If it is unusable, we'll have to wait, anyway.

What method do you use to switch user? If it is in the logout menu, the

Is gnome-screensaver or xscreensaver installed?

Your package has a versioned Build-Depends on linux-kernel-headers.
However, this package has been removed from sid, which makes the
Build-Depends unsatisfiable. Please upload a new version removing
 this.

Please note that just removing the B-D isn't sufficient, because
./configure doesn't detect linux/wireless.h, although it is properly
installed, for a reason I haven't been able to figure out (yet).

Dropping the B-D is not sufficient, you also have to change the asm/io.h
include, and replace it by an sys/io.h include in:
  ./debian/patches/03_toshsat1800-irdasetup.dpatch

Once that done, your package builds fine; tagging accordingly.

Bug#433351: postgrey: Hangs after changing of server's IP address

2007-07-16 Thread Plamen Tonev
Package: postgrey
Version: 1.21-1sarge1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After changing the IP address of our mailserver the postgrey daemon
started to hangs on incoming mail. It responds to them with:

 450 Server configuration problem;

The process hangs and timeouts on connect to port 6.
It also refused to stop - only kill -9 worked.
After cleaning the contents of /var/lib/postgrey/ directory
and starting it again it works ok.
Probably there have to exist some IP check on startup
of the daemon and comparing it to database?

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on i386.

You are currently using a build-dep on linux-kernel-headers.
Buildds are switching to linux-libc-dev. So you should simply drop
linux-kernel-headers from your build depends. (linux-libc-dev is
build-essential, so no need to b-dep on it).

Bug#432414: vcdimager is GPLv2 or later, debian/copyright says GPLv2 only

2007-07-16 Thread Sam Hocevar
On Mon, Jul 16, 2007, Nicolas Boullis wrote:

  | the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or
  | (at your option) any later version.

This is a very important distinction now that GPLv3 is out and is
  incompatible with GPLv2.

While I agree to fix this (but I will prepare a package for the latest
libcdio first), why do you think it is serious?
As far as I un derstand licensing, I am allowed to take some GPL v2 or
above and treat it at my option as GPL v2, and then release it as GPL
v2 only. Am I missing something? Unless so, then the correct severity
 would be wishlist...

I'm not saying a licence violation or anything illegal is occurring,
I am saying that the exact licensing terms in debian/copyright, required
by policy 2.3 (every package must be accompanied by a verbatim copy of
its copyright and distribution license), are misrepresented. Hence the
serious policy violation.

Hello,

A few minutes ago I have asked for the removal of libgtk-trayicon-ruby
because it is now a part of ruby-gnome2 itself (libgtk2-ruby in particular)
and libgtk-trayicon-ruby itself is no longer maintained upstream.
It will be removed from unstable any time soon. I have already let the new
libgtk2-ruby conflict with libgtk-trayicon-ruby. Please refer to [1] for
the API and pursuade upstream to use the Gtk::StatusIcon from GTK+-2.0.

Kind regards,
Paul

Hi,

after a quick look at configure.ac, it looks like being due to the lack
of boost/libs/filesystem/src/exception.cpp. Given #406883 and
boost/1.34.0-1, these cpp files moved to the documentation package,
under the HTML/ directory:
| $ apt-file search filesystem/src/exception.cpp
| libboost-doc:
usr/share/doc/libboost-doc/HTML/libs/filesystem/src/exception.cpp

Debian Boost Team, is it intentional? Is one supposed to detect the
boost libraries and so on in a very different way?

Just trying to figure out, thanks in advance for any pointer.

Cheers,

Bug#433357: ncurses-bin: breaks the whole system when usplash is installed

2007-07-16 Thread Florent Bayle
Package: ncurses-bin
Version: 5.6+20070714-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hi,

Since I've upgraded ncurses-bin (and other ncurses packages) to the lastest
version, my whole system is broken.
Lots of init scripts are failing :
# invoke-rc.d networking restart
 * Reconfiguring network interfaces...   /usr/bin/tput: invalid option -- 2
usage: tput [-V] [-S] [-T term] capname
invoke-rc.d: initscript networking, action restart failed.
#

It seems that this bug is related to :
 - ncurses-bin: tput now fails at boot time since the last upgrade
 - lsb-base: calls tput
 - usplash: activate fancy boot messages in lsb-base.
Please note that if I remove usplash or if I downgrade ncurses, my system
works as usual.

Hi Luk, thanks for your answer, it's really useful. It seems that
there is an encoding problem while reading the .xsession-errors file
(that text is inserted onto the GtkTextBuffer, so it should be UTF-8
valid). Anyway, when getting the text from the buffer to sent it to
the server, it should really be UTF-8

Please, can you attach your ~/.xsession-errors file so I can test a
little bit with the code?

Thanks!

Discussed in http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg01173.html

With glibc-2.5 and gcc-4.1.2 (and gcc-4.2), the 'long double'
data type did change from a 64bit representation to a 128bit
representation on alpha, powerpc, sparc, s390. To allow
partial upgrades of packages, we will need to rename all
packages holding libraries with the long double data type in
their API. Both libc and libstdc++ do not need to be renamed,
because they support both representations. We rename the library
packages on all architectures to avoid name mismatches between
architectures (you can avoid the renaming by supporting both
datatype representations in the library as done in glibc and
libstdc++, but unless a library is prepared for that, it does not
seem to be worth the effort).

It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl;
please wait with the renaming if the package depends on
another library package which needs renaming.

This package has been indentified as one with header files in
/usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report
if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly.

This package has been removed from unstable so this bug no longer
applies.

Package: autoprofile
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Hi,

when building autoprofile I get lots of warning like

src/comp_logstats.c:200: warning: implicit declaration of function 'strdup'
src/comp_logstats.c:200: warning: incompatible implicit declaration of built-in
function 'strdup'

The first kind is bad enough as it tends to declare the wrong types
and the second warning (doesn't always give one) is a sure sign that
you messed up the types. A segfault is a very likely result.

So after lots of those the real error comes:

Hi there!

Due to the recent removal of apache (including it's accompanied
packages of apache-common, apache-dbg, apache-dev, apache-doc,
apache-perl and apache-ssl) and libapache-mod-perl your package most
propably isn't able to get installed or built anymore. These are the
problems your package currently has:

libapache-mod-acct-mysql (dependency): apache-common (= 1.3.26)
libapache-mod-acct-pgsql (dependency): apache-common (= 1.3.26)

Please either send the ftp team a removal request for your package if
it isn't able to work with apache2, or update it to build (only)
packages for apache2.

 Thanks in advance,

It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl;
please wait with the renaming if the package depends on
another library package which needs renaming.

This package has been indentified as one with header files in
/usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report
if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly.

Package: nfs-common
Version: 1:1.1.0-8
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Since the upgrade from 1:1.1.0-6, my system no longer mounts an NFS
volume listed in my /etc/fstab during system boot (I did no other
relevant upgrades that day). It mounts without any problems if I just
give the mount command manually after the boot has completed.

I have been unable to find any clues in the logfiles as to why it fails.
I have not yet done any real investigation into the problem. Suggestions
what to try would be welcome. I will try running with 'set -x' on the next
boot.

The relevant line in fstab is:
elrond:/srv/exports/music/srv/music nfs ro 0 0

Severity critical as this could completely break systems that have
essential file systems on NFS.

  Hi,

Since I've upgraded ncurses-bin (and other ncurses packages) to the lastest
version, my whole system is broken.
Lots of init scripts are failing :
  # invoke-rc.d networking restart

 tput's command-line parsing hasn't changed since before 5.6 (December).
(what was the previous version you had installed?).

 Did usplash change recently?

I got a look at /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh (created by usplash),
and I think that I found the problem :

# cat /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh

COL=`$EXPR $COLS - 7`

# Enough trailing spaces for ` [fail]' to fit in; if the message
# is too long it wraps here rather than later, which is what we
# want.
$TPUT hpa `$EXPR $COLS - 1`
printf ' '
else
echo * $@

Bug#433357: some clues perhaps

2007-07-16 Thread Christian Ohm

I've also encountered this problem (not even having usplash installed
anymore, just a leftover /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh - that's what you get
for not purging packages...). In lsb-base-logging.sh, there are some
tests for terminal width via tput cols. For some reason, the result of
that is -1, from which stuff gets substracted. This is then given to
tput hpa (like tput hpa -9) as an argument, which in result
complains about an invalid option.

I got rid of the problem purging usplash, but it's quite annoying. I
don't really know where the problem is (perhaps the terminfo data got
some faulty update), but one problem is definitely that usplash doesn't
handle the unexpected tput cols output well.

Hope that helps,
Christian Ohm

Bug#432902: marked as done (New version available - blocking update of gpe-calendar)

---BeginMessage---
Package: libeventdb
Version: 0.30-4
Severity: serious

The latest release of gpe-calendar requires libhandoff and updates to
libeventdb and libgpevtype which were released at the same time
(during DebConf7).

libhandoff has now been accepted into Debian from the NEW queue so I
want to be able to upload the updated gpe-calendar upstream release to
close the RC bug #425093.

However, the new release of gpe-calendar needs the latest release of
libeventdb (and libgpevtype).

The updated releases of libeventdb has not shown up in the DEHS because
the watch file is looking at the old handhelds.org location, not the
current linuxtogo server.

I have built the latest versions locally in order to test
the updated gpe-calendar and there appear to be no compatibility
problems with other gpe applications using these libraries (which,
together, form the latest GPE release).

Please can the new upstream releases be uploaded to Debian so that I
can close my RC bug?

(Filing same report for libgpevtype and tagging both as blocking
425093.)

Also, debian/control could do with having ${binary:Version} to replace
the deprecated ${Source-Version} (this fixes a lintian warning) and
v0.90 bumps the SONAME to libeventdb2 so this fix will also have to
spend some time in the NEW queue so now might be a good time to add
a libeventdb2-dbg debug package (likely to become mandatory in Policy
eventually). A simple debian/libeventdb2.install file is needed for
this:
debian/tmp/usr/lib/libeventdb.so.*

I've put a test package in my trivial repository that includes all
these fixes:

http://linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages/pool/main/libe/libeventdb/libeventdb_0.90-1.dsc

As this is a new upstream release, a .diff would not be particularly
useful - the .diff.gz is available at:

http://linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages/pool/main/libe/libeventdb/

(Note that the lintian warning: shlib-with-executable-stack
usr/lib/libeventdb.so.2.0.0 remains - I'll take up this issue with
upstream and see if it can be fixed for the next release.)

The SONAME bump requires a rebuild of gpe-contacts which is not a
problem itself. It does require one change to libdisplaymigration which
actually fixes the bug in libdisplaymigration (unable to install) -

Package: libdisplaymigration0-dev
Section: libdevel
Priority: optional
Architecture: any
Depends: libdisplaymigration0 (= ${binary:Version})

instead of
Depends: libdisplaymigration0 (= ${source:Version})

This makes libdisplaymigration0 binNMU safe.

As ever, I'm happy to be co-maintainer for any or all of these packages
- there are frequently times when various GPE packages have to be
updated and uploaded together and sharing the maintenance would make a
lot of sense. My test packages have been built with this co-maintenance
in place (just to shut up lintian) so if you use these packages, feel
free to remove the Uploaders: field if you prefer not to take up this
offer.

Actually, http.us.debian.org exists in the Debian DNS but is not

http://www.debian.org/mirrors/list

 using ftp.us.debian.org solves the problem.

Moreoever, since http.us.debian.org is a DNS round-robin, it is
difficult to process your bug, because all the servers seem ok.

Could you please specify the server you use and the packages you have

Bug#433374: python-pylons: installs tests, yielding effective file conflicts

2007-07-16 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: python-pylons
Version: 0.9.5-6
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.1

python-pylons installs its unit tests, complete with an __init__.py, to
/usr/share/python-support/python-pylons/tests and (implicitly) asks
python-support to compile them; not only does this waste (a small
amount) of resources, it leads to effective conflicts with similarly

Bug#433373: python-boto: installs tests, yielding effective file conflicts

2007-07-16 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: python-boto
Version: 0.9a-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.1

python-boto installs its unit tests, complete with an __init__.py, to
/usr/share/python-support/python-boto/tests and (implicitly) asks
python-support to compile them; not only does this waste (a small
amount) of resources, it leads to effective conflicts with similarly
broken packages such as python-pylons at present:

This is certainly not grave.

Yes, it's important. I'll have to check this. But note that there will not
be an update for sarge or even etch for this bug, since it's not security
related.

It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl;
please wait with the renaming if the package depends on
another library package which needs renaming.

This package has been indentified as one with header files in
/usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report
if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly.

Bug#433357: some clues perhaps

2007-07-16 Thread Thomas Dickey

On Mon, 16 Jul 2007, Christian Ohm wrote:

I've also encountered this problem (not even having usplash installed
anymore, just a leftover /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh - that's what you get
for not purging packages...). In lsb-base-logging.sh, there are some
tests for terminal width via tput cols. For some reason, the result of
that is -1, from which stuff gets substracted. This is then given to
tput hpa (like tput hpa -9) as an argument, which in result
complains about an invalid option.

That could be a -1 for a couple of reasons - I'll check to see if I
introduced an initialization bug in the restructuring changes to the

ncurses library (the most likely problem that comes to mind).

I got rid of the problem purging usplash, but it's quite annoying. I
don't really know where the problem is (perhaps the terminfo data got
some faulty update), but one problem is definitely that usplash doesn't
handle the unexpected tput cols output well.

Hope that helps,

it sounds useful (thanks)

Bug#423933: libbfd-2.17.so not found

Steve Langasek wrote:
[snip]
I find four packages in the archive that are picking up a dependency on
'binutils' by way of shlibs: ggcov, nitpic, skyeye, and sysprof.

 nitpic needs libbfd-2.16.91.so, that's nice...

ggcov, sysprof, and skyeye at least manage to have binary packages in stable
that depend on the matching version of binutils.

But all four packages are buggy, as is binutils for providing broken shlibs.
The shlibs provided by binutils are effectively not supportable in a stable
release; which means that until binutils has reasonable shlibs (perhaps
using a virtual package name, the way apt does for its library?), packages
should not be dynamically linking to libbfd.

FYI, upstream has no plans to introduce a stable interface to libbfd
ever (for the same reason the kernel folks don't do a stable device
driver binary interface).

user support if we move this driver to non-free and let vesa and/or vga be
 the default for nvidia users?

AFAIR, we still prefer this driver way over the hard non-free
binary-only driver from NVidia. In other words, given that the project
nouveau is making progress, changes are merged back, and this driver is
better then the binary-only driver, I think keeping the driver in main
is the right decision.
