xtraceroute looks for /usr/sbin/traceroute instead of
/usr/bin/traceroute, which makes it unusable without fideling around
with it since threre is currently no packages in unstable that contains
that file (traceroute is installed in /usr/bin/traceroute).

I can see now that traceroute version 2.0.7-1 have dropped the alternative
for /usr/sbin/traceroute. This means that this problem do not exist in
current stable, and not yet in the testing version (but that is just a matter
of time).

I'll change that asap.

Bug#429064: linux-libc-devel: linux/types.h conflicts with sys/ustat.h

2007-08-13 Thread Richard Hartmann
Is there any progress on this bug? Is has been almost a month and,
at least to me as an outsider, the fix in the form of the patch from
July 18th seems to be doing the trick and to be rather trivial to
implement.

What makes you to believe that? I watched BTS web page before and after my

Hmm - I looked at the nice graph at the web page.

Perhaps that simply was not yet updated :-P

Bug#437621: CVE-2007-2030: unsecure tempfile handling

2007-08-13 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: lha
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hi

There is a CVE[0] issued against lha. It also leads to a patch[1], which
apparently fixes the problem. Could you please investigate this.
The CVE text says:

lharc.c in lha does not securely create temporary files, which might
allow local users to read or write files by creating a file before LHA
is invoked.

Please remember mentioning the CVE number in your changelog entry.
Thanks for your efforts.
Cheers

I guess you'll have to remove Open21xx from Debian.

Looks like it never built/worked on those platforms:

 http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?arch=pkg=open21xx

Hopefully someone on the porter lists will be able to help (CCed).

If no-one replies, I'm willing to use the Debian development machines to
help you fix this issue. I'm not familiar with the open21xx source or
package, and I have little time for Debian stuff, so I'll need some
 direction and hints about this.

Given the list of failing architectures, I think the most likely cause
is some code relying on char being signed by default. And indeed,
building the as21 directory with -fsigned-char makes it build for me.

You're right, as21/cpp.c was comparing a plain char to EOF. I've
uploaded the attached patch, let's see if it works.

Thanks,

Bug#437631: php5: Build segfault for version 5.2.3: install-pear-installer

2007-08-13 Thread Matteo Artuso
Package: php5

Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Since I need a custom build of php5 (I include oracle instant client), I'm
trying to upgrade to 5.2.3 and found it impossible to do so because of a

Hi !

Thanks for the report ! What's strange is that the password should be in
passwords.dat, not in config.dat... Anyway it should be cleared.

Bug#376159: Open21xx Bug Report

2007-08-13 Thread Keith Clifford
Good catch. Putting the EOF in the character buffer doesn't sound like a
bright thing to do either. I'll review the whole section and get a release
to you.

Thanks for you help,
Keith

If no-one replies, I'm willing to use the Debian development machines to
help you fix this issue. I'm not familiar with the open21xx source or
package, and I have little time for Debian stuff, so I'll need some
 direction and hints about this.

Given the list of failing architectures, I think the most likely cause
is some code relying on char being signed by default. And indeed,
building the as21 directory with -fsigned-char makes it build for me.

You're right, as21/cpp.c was comparing a plain char to EOF. I've
uploaded the attached patch, let's see if it works.

Matej

Bug#436681: backuppc: Web interface password publicly visible

2007-08-13 Thread Frans Pop
On Monday 13 August 2007, you wrote:
Thanks for the report ! What's strange is that the password should be in
passwords.dat, not in config.dat... Anyway it should be cleared.

I know debconf quite well because of my work on Debian Installer and that's
only true if you ask a user to _input_ a password in a password field.

It is not true if you _display_ a password using a variable in a regular
template. In that case the value of that variable will be included in the
regular data file.

Note that you will also have to clear values in the debconf database for
existing installs on upgrades from a broken version.

Cheers,
FJP

Given the list of failing architectures, I think the most likely cause
is some code relying on char being signed by default. And indeed,
building the as21 directory with -fsigned-char makes it build for me.

Bug#413762: Fix for config structure using dynamic backends...

2007-08-13 Thread Jonathan McDowell
On Sat, Aug 11, 2007 at 05:54:32PM +0100, Brett Parker wrote:
The attached patch fixes the config structure when dynamic backends are
used - the basic issue is that when the backend was loaded, it wouldn't
(neccessarily) share the config structure with the program that called
it (and had therefore read the config).

The problem with this is that we get multiple functions with the same
name. I'm not sure we can be certain which will evaluate first? In
particular, using the db4 backend through the dynamic backend with an
error during DB initialisation causes a segfault. The initdb in
keydb_db4 will call cleanupdb() when it hits an error, but this now
maps to the cleanupdb() in keydb_dynamic. Which, although it calls the
version in keydb_db4, will also call dlclose on the keydb_db4.so.
Meaning that control returns to a function that's no longer in memory...

The easy option is to have the cleanup end up as an internal function
that cleanupdb calls, but I'd need to be certain there aren't other
artifacts that will be seen from these changes.

Package: atokx
Version: 1.0-20
Severity: grave

The atokx package has the following hard-coded dependencies:

Depends: libc6 (= 2.0), libx11-6 | xlibs (= 4.0) | xlib6g (= 3.3.3.1),
libgtk1.2 (= 1.2), libglib1.2 (= 1.2), debconf | debconf-2.0, wget

libglib1.2 no longer exists in unstable; it has been replaced with
libglib1.2ldbl for the long-double ABI transition.

Since this ABI change does not affect the i386 architecture, atokx can
safely use libglib1.2ldbl instead of libglib1.2, but a sourceful upload is
needed to fix the hard-coded dependencies.

Bug#407575: playground doesn't do anything - solution

2007-08-13 Thread Lieven Marchand
I had the same problem in unstable. When I did the apt-get build-dep;
apt-get source; debian/rules binary dance and rebuild the packages
playground and playground-plugin-xmms on my own machine, playground
worked. Must be a subtle difference in the build environment.

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that

package: nautilus-sendto
severity: serious

nautilus-sendto is no longer buildable in unstable because gaim is no
longer in unstable. It is also highly unlikey to be usable with pidgin.

To make it build against pidgin all that is required is to drop ubuntus
patch into debian/patches and tweak the build-dependencies (you'll also
want to tweak the reccomends to avoid unnessacery pulling in of a dummy
package by package managers that respect them). I have not tested if the
resulting package works it as I don't use nautilus.

package: nautilus-sendto
severity: serious

nautilus-sendto is no longer buildable in unstable because gaim is no
longer in unstable.

2007-08-13 Thread Chris Halls

On Saturday 04 Aug 2007, Mykola Nikishov wrote:
 With this it works fine.

Thanks a lot for testing this and the suggested patch. Unfortunately I found
that the patch breaks the package database handling. (It is possible to see
this by comparing the unit tests before and after the patch.)

I think the package database code is probably using the apt library in the
wrong way - see bug #285360. The original author of the code is no longer
available so it will take me some time to fix this properly. However it
passes the unit tests if I set the architecture to 'i386', even if it is not
going to fix #285360.

Bug#437621: CVE-2007-2030: unsecure tempfile handling

2007-08-13 Thread Luciano Bello
As I understand this, the problem exist in the mktemp() used in
src/lharc.c:932 and src/lharc.c:951. The manpage mktemp(3) says:

Never use mktemp(). Some implementations follow 4.3BSD and replace XX by
the current process ID and a single letter, so that at most 26 different
names can be returned. Since on the one hand the names are easy to guess,
and on the other hand there is a race between testing whether the name

exists and opening the file, every use of mktemp() is a security risk.
The race is avoided by mkstemp(3).

But the behaviour of the app doesn't look vulnerable at all. I propose, with
the attached patch, avoid any mktemp possibility.
