Hello,

Starting gnome-hearts systematically yields this:

**Error**: Couldn't recognize the image file format for file
'/usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-games-common/cards/bonded.svg'

and a dialog notifying the user the application has crashed.
Perhaps a missing dependency?

unace in x86_64 segfaults when using the 'l' option to view the
contents of an ace file. This is because the source code assumes an
ILP32 system. Changing the typedef to unsigned int allows the
program to work.

Bug#438462: dynagen: should only be built on architectures where dynamips is available

2007-08-17 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: dynagen
Version: 0.9.3-1
Severity: serious

Hello.

At the moment dynagen is built on all architectures, but is uninstallable
in all of them but i386. In order to have the package migrating to testing,
it should only be built for architectures where dynamips is available.

The easiest way to do this is to change the Architecture: any line in
debian/control to Architecture: i386. Once you do that, or something
equivalent, please file a bug against ftp.debian.org asking for the
removal of dynagen binaries for other architectures than i386.

One that all that happens, the package will migrate to testing normally.

Cheers,

That's a problem with python-apt loading the apt library and would be a
bug in python-apt so I'm surprised its not been spotted already. Maybe
you forced a particular package version or have upgraded apt without
upgrading python-apt? In any case, upgrading your python-apt version
should fix this.

From CVE-2007-4323:
DenyHosts 2.6 does not properly parse sshd log files, which allows
remote attackers to add arbitrary hosts to the /etc/hosts.deny file
and cause a denial of service by adding arbitrary IP addresses to the
sshd log file, as demonstrated by logging in via ssh with a client
protocol version identification containing an IP address string, a

No, we found this error trying to upgrade from old stable (where the
program ran correctly) to new etch but the same error came also purging
the packet, removing all the files with rm and trying a fresh
 installation.

  Do you change default configuration?

 No in previous installation.

Could you send us your configuration files (particularly
  20-debian_defaults and 25-amavis_helpers files)?

I cannot send anything because the directory /etc/amavis/conf.d/ is
 empty.

Oooh, this is the reason of your problem.

Are you sure that you purge *all* your amavisd-new files? in
particular /etc/amavisd.conf,/etc/amavis/amavisd.conf, or
*.disabled files before installing? During your sarge-etch
upgrade, did you read the debconf message? (See bug #430028).

Hi,

These bugs are open against zop-popyda, which was removed from the archive
almost 2 years ago, last uploaded 5 years ago, and seems to have been dead
upstream for about 6 years, so I'm closing them.

If you believe they should be kept for any reason, please feel free to
reopen any of them.

Are you sure that you purge *all* your amavisd-new files? in

*.disabled files before installing? During your sarge-etch
upgrade, did you read the debconf message? (See bug #430028).

Ok, now it works: we can close the bug!

Is it worth keeping it in the archive ? If it's not, please ask ftp-master

 Hi,

This package, silgraphite1.0, has had a single upload to experimental
almost 3 years ago, and an FTBFS bug open against it since November 2004.
Is it worth keeping it in the archive ? If it's not, please ask ftp-master
 to remove it.

That package has been deprecated so I'll ask ftp-master to remove it.

I think this is due to an API change and recent upload of a new FLAC Library,
from libflac-dev's changelog:

  * New upstream release. closes: #405167, #411311
- libOggFLAC and libOggFLAC++ have been merged into libFLAC, so
  remove their corresponding packages.
- Because of the API changes required to effect the above, there has
been yet another soname bump. libflac7 - libflac8 and
libflac++5 - libflac++6. Emails have been dispatched to the
  maintainers of dependent packages.

The Full Build log is available and can be viewed at:

Package: idjc
Version: 0.6.11-1

Hi,

This is to let you know I've gotten around to packaging FLAC 1.1.4. As
you may know, this involves not only the usual SONAME change from

libflac7 - libflac8
libflac++5 - libflac++6

but also liboggflac* have been removed, and merged into the main
FLAC library, so there are lots of API considerations involved
with that. You're receiving this bug because your package depends
on one or more of libflac7, libflac++5, liboggflac3, or liboggflac++2.

By now your upstream sources have transitioned, or at least made #ifdef
style provisions for this new API, especially if your package depends
on liboggflac*. If not, Josh Coalson, the upstream maintainer of FLAC,
has prepared a fairly extensive transition guide on the FLAC web site in
case you want to have a go at making the transition yourself. (What a
dedicated maintainer!):

http://flac.sourceforge.net/api/group__porting.html

If you're ready to build against 1.1.4, please download binary packages
or build them from source from here:

http://people.debian.org/~joshk/

i386 and amd64 are available on that page.

Well, this is a small-time library transition. So this is probably the
only message you'll see about this. I plan to upload 1.1.4 tomorrow
evening if there are no concerns raised about the sanity of this
transition, and you will have until the package clears NEW to prepare.

Once it hits unstable, you should upload your package on the same day to
mitigate uninstallable packages. (But if anyone complains, tell them
that they're using unstable, and should live with it.)

Oh, and sorry for the belated transition -- I've been quite busy with
school. Anyway, let me know if there are any problems.

Bug#438554: pidentd: Errors writing pid file

2007-08-17 Thread Frans Pop
Package: pidentd
Version: 3.0.19.ds1-3
Severity: serious

In my logs I noticed:
identd[8496]: s_open(/var/run/identd.pid, O_WRONLY): Permission denied

Which can be explained as it runs as identd and not as root.
Because of this, there is a special directory in /var/run:
$ ls -ld /var/run/identd/
drwxr-xr-x 2 identd nogroup 1024 2006-06-27 16:45 /var/run/identd/

But it seems that directory is no longer used, even though it looks like
it _was_ used in Etch.

/etc/identd.conf for Etch has:
# server:pid-file = /var/run/identd/identd.pid
while the same file for Sid has:
# server:pid-file = /var/run/identd.pid

Looks like this change of the default location of the pid file needs to
be reverted!

Bug#437514: Upgraded to udev 0.114-2, problem still occurs

2007-08-17 Thread Dominique Brazziel
Let me clarify a couple of things:

1. The problem is sporadic in that the kernel and
system will boot on occasion, usually after the system
has been powered down for awhile (i.e. overnight).
After working on the 2.6.21 kernel for some time, if a
reboot is performed it will hang (I have never 2.6.21
come up again following a reboot). The problem is
reproducible in that sense.

You probably compiled your kernel without enabling
some feature(s) needed by older udev releases.

2. If I turn on debugging info I see thousands of
events but don't know which one(s) are not being
handled.

Now that I have upgraded udev to the latest 'testing'
version what do you suggest I do to debug this
problem?
('udevtrigger' seems to be the culprit)

It looks like those references to internal implementation details could be
replaced by calls to httpGetField. But after that, I also ran into problems
in kdeprint/cups/ipprequest.cpp, where I'm not quite sure how to handle
the lines dealing with authentication strings -- the API functions I found
also want the authentication scheme as an argument.

Bug#438567: xlock vanished

2007-08-17 Thread Zefram
Package: xlockmore
Severity: grave

This morning cron-apt upgraded my Debian system and removed the xlock
program, which I use, or at least I did until it vanished. The xlockmore
package has disappeared, and the program isn't being supplied by any
package installed in its place. In fact, I'm at a loss to find the
program in any package.

I have apt configured to use the stable distribution.
My /etc/apt/sources.list is

deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main

The cron-apt output for this morning's exceptionally lengthy upgrade
begins thus:

CRON-APT RUN [/etc/cron-apt/config]: Fri Aug 17 04:00:01 UTC 2007
CRON-APT SLEEP: 481, Fri Aug 17 04:08:02 UTC 2007
CRON-APT ACTION: 3-download
CRON-APT LINE: dist-upgrade -y -o APT::Get::Show-Upgraded=true
Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  base-config gcj-3.3 gcj-3.4 lbxproxy libdps1 libgcj5-dev libgmp3 libmodplug0
  libnewt0.51 libxft1 netkit-inetd ntp-server proxymngr xfree86-common xfwp
  xlibs xlockmore xserver-common
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  busybox cpp-4.1 cupsys-common debian-archive-keyring dmidecode dpkg-dev

This notes that xlockmore is being removed, along with a bunch of
other packages that I thought I was using but which have evidently been
correctly replaced. apt-get now denies the existence of the xlockmore
package:

# apt-get install xlockmore
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Package xlockmore is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package xlockmore has no installation candidate
#

Where did it go?

Yes I wasn't suggesting that we don't fix it in stable, but rather that a
fix was available and had been uploaded to Debian (unstable). The BTS
supports version tracking and even though the bug maybe closed, these
security issues are still listed as open for asterisk in etch.

Of course if we have a way of testing the fix in unstable is is valid
 that's even better.

Of course fixing the plethora of security fixes against asterisk 1.2 is an
issue and a fair amount of work. Whilst digium continues to provide
 supported
releases of 1.2.x with bug fixes, by rights we should be only taking
the diff's and applying them to debian stable via the debian security team,
 which
 is a job in itself.

We are maintaining uptodate asterisk 1.2 packages built against stable (etch)
 via
http://buildserver.net, but that is using the latest asterisk 1.2 upstream
release and isn't a suitable security fix for upload to stable. (but would be
 a lot
less work and would get the fixes into stable v.quickly)

security team. This is an issue, we (pkg-voip) are aware we are well behind
 the
curve on this, but were wondering if you have any ideas on a way to better
 manage?

For Etch we need to bite the bullet and continue to support it (see my previous
mail to Faidon), but with the current strain of vulnerabilities (19 in 2007
alone!)
we can't support it for Lenny again. In some cases we need to accept notoriously
error-prone packages because they are terribly important (like PHP and Linux),
but
we can't do that for Asterisk.

For Lenny I see three solutions: (in order of my personal preferrence)
1. Move it to volatile.debian.org and support it through builds of the current
Digium
   maintenance release
2. Drop it from stable and support it out of the archive through builds of the
current
   Digium maintenance release
3. For Lenny we'll most likely have a way to flag packages not having security
support
(see #436161). So, it could be included in Lenny w/o security support. There
might
still be use cases, e.g. a company-wide internal PBX.

Comments?

Package: udev
Version: 0.105-4
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

After line 'Waiting for /dev to be fully populated' the system hangs.
Eventually it will timeout
but then hang forever (/dev not fully populated). If I set loglevel to 'info'
it is possible to
get things going again using Control-C but I don't know what process was killed.

The only way to get out it after the hang is to power the machine off rudely
because the SysRq magic
key appears not to be set up at this stage (no console devices yet).

I have to say that I find all of these unacceptable.

Granted, Asterisk had some vulnerabilities recently -which IMHO is
because it's getting more attention recently- but upstream has a good
record responding to these in time with code and even their own advisories!

They even provide security updates to their old major version (1.2) at
the same time as the new one (1.4) which fits our release cycle.

The fixes are easily spotted since they do have both of their VCS and
BTS open: the commit messages refer to the advisory and the advisories
link to the bug.
In the fixes I sent you, the patches are from their repository
*completely* unchanged. They applied cleanly to our version!

Other vendors and distributions security support Asterisk, including
Ubuntu which contains versions of ours.

Granted, we have a very very bad record as maintainers of supporting
this security-wise but I think we can try to change that. I certainly
will try my best to provide you with patched versions to upload.
I haven't discuss this with the rest of the team yet but I think they
are willing of helping with this.

I don't think that it serves our users to not provide security support
for asterisk, especially considering its popularity.

Faidon

Bug#438586: libc6 upgrade renders etch unusable

2007-08-17 Thread Nathan O. Siemers

Package: libc6
Version: latest pushed out as an update to etch.
Severity: critical

apt-get update; apt-get install

using vanilla etch and security sources on a chrooted ia32 debian system
is rendered unusable, with most binaries complaining of library errors:

line:/# apt-get upgrade
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to
correct the problem.

line:/# dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: relocation error: /lib/libpthread.so.0: symbol errno, version
GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

The system is now unusable, fortunately it is chrooted underneath a pure
amd64 debian etch system. I'm afraid to run the update there.

Debian Etch.
amd64 host with emul-ia32 chroot environment (where the problem is so far).

sources.list (on chroot environment):
deb ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ etch main
deb-src ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ etch main
deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib

kernel (my own compilation):

Linux line 2.6.17.11ns4 #4 SMP Fri Jul 27 17:48:31 EDT 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

NOTE: it is assumed that libc6 is the culprit here - in fact a number of
packages were upgraded at once.

Thank you,

Nathan

Bug#418825: libapache2-mod-perl2: Apache2.pm not found in @INC after dist upgrade

2007-08-17 Thread Gunnar Wolf
severity 418825 normal
tag 418825 + etch
thanks

Hi,

First of all, excuse us for taking so long to answer to this
mail. mod_perl2 was sadly undermaintained, and its bugs were left to
rot - even when ranked at a high severity. I just adopted this package
today.

I am downgrading this bug to normal, as it includes a workaround,
and will work on a way to address it for users who have not yet
upgraded. However, automatic upgrades will probably just not work -
When Sarge was frozen as the stable version back in 2005, mod_perl2
was just about to stabilize its API - It was named
libapache2-mod-perl2, and most of the API was in place, but you will
understand from the 1.999.21-1 version number something was just about
to happen.

And it happened - Apache modules written with the previous API will
not work with the current one. The changes are simple, however, and
documented.

Please take a look at Apache's A Reference to mod_perl 1.0 to
mod_perl 2.0 Migration [1] and (if your modules mix Perl and C code)
Porting Apache:: XS Modules from mod_perl 1.0 to 2.0. For some
discussion on the rationale behind the Apache authors for this change,
you should also read mod_perl 2.0 renaming [3].

Keep in mind that the modules you developed for Sarge are made for an
intermediate API - They are no longer compatible with Apache 1.x's
mod_perl API, but they are still not 2.0 compliant.

Thank you for your understanding, and apologies for not making this
known to you in advance.

Greetings,

What's the status? If you prepare an update for us, please include the fix
 for ftp://ftp.vim.org/pub/vim/patches/7.1/7.1.039 (CVE-2007-2953).

I haven't had much free time recently. I'll get this done this weekend.
Thanks for the prod and note about the other vulnerability. I've cloned
this bug for the new vulnerability.

Bug#438594: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block

2007-08-17 Thread Paul
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-5-486
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-13etch1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

After installing the new linux-image package and rebooting, the boot process
failed with:

RAMDISK: compressed image found at block 0
RAMDISK: incomplete write(-1 != 32768) 4134304
VFS: cannot open root device /dev/hda2 or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct root= boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs or unknown-block(0,0)

I appended ramdisk=65536 to grub's root line, and that got rid of the RAMDISK
errors, but the boot continues to fail with the same VFS error.

Linux-image-2.6.18-4-486 works fine.
