Bug#442424: xserver-xorg-input-wacom: Please provide packages for xserver-xorg-core 1.4

2007-10-01 Thread Ron

Thanks for the heads-up! It's good to have this latest patch confirmed.
Hopefully it will result in a new upstream release in the next couple of
days. I have translation patches flowing in at present from the 'Smith'
project review, and I'll have a chat with the xorg maintainers about
the possibility of pulling the needed patches from 1.4.1 early.

So with a bit of luck this shouldn't stay broken for too much longer...

Cheers,
Ron

The last few patches provided by wigge appear to mostly address this
 bug:

 http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=525126group_id=69596func=browse

Confirmed working after updating the Debian package to the latest
stable upstream (0.7.8-3) and applying the patches, though note the
caveats mentioned along with the extended input scale correction
patch (full functionality for resizing will have to wait for pending
 fixes in xorg upstream).

 Hope this helps!

 Hi, Lucas,

It seems both me and Gregor Herrmann can't reproduce this problem.

Gregor had some failures due to entries in /etc/hosts that matched the
local host name but pointed to IP addresses used by non-configured
network interfaces. This caused tests to clearly fail on his machine.
Fixing this, the build completes with no oddities.

Could something like this be causing problems during your builds?

It might, but then libwww-mechanize-shell-perl is the only package
affected.

To test, please check whether the IP addresses returned by getent hosts
`hostname` are reachable and not firewalled.

this works fine.

Building your package times out while running some tests: it seems that
all tests are successful, but that it never finishes. I'm building with
  sbuild.

 Hi,

I can't reproduce this. Both pbuilder and sbuild build run all the tests
just fine. The only problem I found is that the netbase package needs to
be added manually because libwww-perl needs it but doesn't depend on it
 (#424737).

My build chroot has netbase installed.

Is it reproducible for you? I'll come up with something to turn on
 debugging messages if it is.

Might be. I'm building on an SMP box, and there might be an issue with

Is there a timeout here or was this a manual TERM signal? It could be
 something SIGALRM related, I guess...

There's a script killing builds that have been running for more than 8
hours. that's what happened here (the SIGTERM is caused by the script).

I tried to re-run the build several times.

3) succeeded (but I was running another build in another chroot at the

4) (is the one running at the same time as (3): stuck at

So my best guess is that there's some race condition in the tests. Can
you check on an SMP box ?

Bug#444562: Bug#441161: bibletime - FTBFS: configure: error: Failed to compile the test program to check the Sword version

No. This issue is completely valid.

The .la file shipped with libsword-dev references libcurl.la.

  configure:32801: /bin/sh ./libtool --silent --mode=link g++ -o conftest

-L/usr/lib conftest.cpp -lsword -lz 15 libtool: link: cannot find the
  library `/usr/lib/libcurl.la'

The problem is in bibletime's libtool, which is antique. Running the
same line with the same conftest file with Debian's current libtool
 gives no errors.

I could find no evidence that libsword-dev really needs to include
libcurl*-dev as a dependency, this is only a workaround for a problem
 in bibletime.

Instead of adding a dependency, a better fix would be to fix the .la file to
not include the reference to libcurl.la if it is not needed.

It is perfectly in order, actually preferred, in any kde related package to
relibtoolize it with debian libtool.

How to do that? either at build time while build-depending - or ship the
differences as patches.

But basically it requires the following:

cp -f /usr/share/libtool/ltmain.sh admin/ltmain.sh
cp -f /usr/share/libtool/libtool.m4 admin/libtool.m4.in

make -f admin/Makefile.common

(the last command reruns autotools, so all those autogenerated files will be
regenerated)

Bug#444815: evolution-exchange: Package unusable due to problem with evolution-exchange-storage

2007-10-01 Thread Mike Brodbelt
Package: evolution-exchange
Version: 2.10.3.dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Connections to Exchange no longer work. This appears to be because of version
mismatches between versions of evolution-exchanger-storage and evolution. The
package owns /usr/lib/evolution/2.10/evolution-exchange-storage, but there is
no evolution-exchange-storage binary to be found in /usr/lib/evolution/2.12,
and evolution fails to connect to the Exchange server at all. Installing this
upgrade has completely broken a previously functional mail client.

Hi!

As this bug is not one within slony1 itself but in one of its
Build-Depends there is no reason to keep it open against slony1. slony1
just pulls in docbook2x and through it libxml-sax-expat-perl - which in
turn falsly) isn't used if libxml-sax-perl is installed. This, though,
is something that the perl team agrees on is a bug within their own
rows, so a workaround for it isn't required, a fix for it in the perl
packages is pending. A workaround would propably be to build-conflict
with libxml-sax-perl, but I'm not convinced that this would be of real
help, as it is a _wrong_ build-conflict because it doesn't really
conflict with it. Setting such a thing shouldn't be taken lightly and
in fact it isn't something that would have to be there.

 So long,
Rhonda

Joost Yervante Damad wrote:

Hello,

Can you please try with wxwidgets version 2.6.3.2.2-1 ?

There was a problem in an earlier version with the new gnome/gtk+.

Thanks, Joost

Thanks. The new wxwidgets is only in Sid for AMD at the moment, but
once the i386 version arrives I'll give it a try.

Can we assume that this bug exists specifically with reference to Gnome
= 2.20

as pointed out in [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Is this simply a problem with the Debian versions or would it require
intervention from upstream?
Are we getting so many problems with Audacity because it is not
specifically written for GNU/Linux systems?

This appears to be also related to problems with transliteration in
Audacity wrt swedish. I'll have to find a ref for that.

I'm just trying to understand the issues at present.

That is not an exported API of dpkg, just an undocumented

I'd also advise to use “-module -avoid-version” to build plugins, no
need to have .0.0.0 things for them, but please fix that bug first.

Why shouldn't there be a versioning for the modules? If libraries are
in a separate package (as they should be) versioninig might be
 appropiate.

It is very common to have plugins built from the same source package and
to not version them, which upstream usually doesn't know about. Reading
the libtool (and more generally autoconf and automake) manual(s) helps.

An NMU might happen before monday since there's an ongoing BSP.

 And where's the patch?

“Put the .so in the appropriate package”, do you really expect more? You
might have wanted to remove the “help” tag instead, since you've now got
the hint you were looking for, haven't you?

No. This issue is completely valid.

The .la file shipped with libsword-dev references libcurl.la.

Indeed, and that's the one I looked at when filing this bugreport:

| # Libraries that this one depends upon.
| dependency_libs=' /usr/lib/libcurl.la /usr/lib/libidn.la -ldl
/usr/lib/libgnutls.la -L/usr/lib /usr/lib/libtasn1.la /usr/lib/libgcrypt.la
/usr/lib/libgpg-error.la -lnsl -lgssapi_krb5 -lz'

Instead of adding a dependency, a better fix would be to fix the .la
file to not include the reference to libcurl.la if it is not needed.

That's another way. But there's definitely a problem on libsword-dev
AFAICT.

Cheers,

Versioning modules is not done the same way as versioning libraries. If
the modules' ABI changes, they should be put in a directory with a
different name. In all cases, you only need a .so for each module,
without versioning (or the lack of versioning that .0.0.0 indicates).

Even when running the browser from inside gdb, I still get bug-buddy
popping up. After further investigation, it looks like the Java plug-in
is launching the applet in a separate process, which segfaults and
throws up bug-buddy (crash report attached). Then the browser applet
sees that the process has gone away, and instead of dealing with the
situation gracefully, takes out the browser as well!

Bug#439642: Probably something debian buildd specific

2007-10-01 Thread Javier Fernandez-Sanguino
2007/10/1, Cyril Brulebois [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
  And where's the patch?

Put the .so in the appropriate package, do you really expect more? You
might have wanted to remove the help tag instead, since you've now got
the hint you were looking for, haven't you?

Well, a patch is a patch. A comment is *not* a patch.

I've already fixed this and uploaded a new version of the package (in
INCOMING, since it introduces a new package). Introducing a new
package and moving files over to it is a non-trivial task.

Regards

Javier

I think you mean NEW. Incoming is http://incoming.debian.org, and is

this patch just replaces x_strdup() with plain strdup(), which makes the

 Hi,

The patch attached makes the call in the postrm script to debconf and
awk conditional. That way hunglish no longer depends on non-essential
 packages in postrm.

Hi Javi,

I can't find your patch attached to that bug.

Hi,

Lucas Nussbaum has rebuiltthe whole archive three times on i386 and the
content of your packages builded there differ. This means that the package
which was generated on the fist build contains or doesn't contains several
files
which are or aren't included in the package which build two or three times.

See the report and the url for details:

Files in first .changes but not in second
-
/usr/share/locale/cs/gnash.mo
/usr/share/locale/de/gnash.mo
/usr/share/locale/es/gnash.mo
/usr/share/locale/fr/gnash.mo
/usr/share/locale/it/gnash.mo

The full build-log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2007/doublebuild-09-05/failed-debdiff

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems. All
packages have been rebuilt twice in a row, with unpack, build, clean,
build.

Please read the mail of Martin Zobel-Helas on debian-devel [0], for a
explanation
for this mass bug filling.

Greetings
Patrick Winnertz

Hello,

Since switching to version 0.56.0-2 (from version 0.53.3-6), the
pop3-ssl service (and probably imap-ssl service also, but I will not
report bug since I do not use it right now) has trouble responding to
requests.

Client Application is Mail.app (OS X). Log message is:

Downgrading works fine.

Bug#444865: Depends on nonexistent virtual package editor

2007-10-01 Thread KORN Andras
Package: ldapvi
Version: 1.7-2
Severity: serious

Hi,

ldapvi depends on a virtual package called editor that according to Debian
policy doesn't exist and thus mustn't appear in a Provides or a Depends
line.

See e.g. #398752 for a discussion.

Best regards,

Andras

Hi,

There's a new upstream version available that probably fixes this bug,

let your upstream know about this issue.

Bug#444768: Audacity crashes when opening preference dialogue

2007-10-01 Thread Joost Yervante Damad

I'm just trying to understand the issues at present.

AFAIK, the problem at the root was that a new version of gtk+ got stricter in
it's interface and wxwidgets violated one of the stricter rules causing
crashes. This is fixed now in the latest wxwidgets in sid.

As far as I know, this is no issue in audacity.

Bug#444666: deleted my modified powerbtn script on upgrade w/o warning

2007-10-01 Thread Joey Hess
Torsten Werner wrote:
 Everything is explained in NEWS.Debian.

Actually, no, your NEWS.Debian mentions the old log files and the
logrotate configuration file but fails to mention that all acpid files
are also hosed by this upgrade.

  | You should check in preinst, by comparing the md5sums of the
  | installed file and the one recorded in /var/lib/dpkg/info, if the file
  | has been modified.

That is not an exported API of dpkg, just an undocumented
implementation detail. I do not want to rely on that. But you can
reassign the bug to dpkg if you think it is worth fixing.

http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling

dpkg offers a defined interface to /var/lib/dpkg/info already:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~dpkg-query -W -f='${Conffiles}\n' pdmenu
 /etc/pdmenurc 58a28d70ece0c49c19449cdd2fca3bec
 /etc/menu-methods/pdmenu e8df1e9bdee28d52a42d4ab3feeb246a
 /etc/menu-methods/pdmenu-x11 643ffbeacd367532a8e7a97536b90692
 /etc/menu-methods/pdmenu-vc 1619fec77b54c1531dd9d296ea305c1c

However, in this actual case, dpkg no longer knows about the conffiles
since your package has already dropped them, so the only way to fix things
is to embed the md5sums of the original conffiles in the postinst script.

Meh. Brown paper bag day.
I'd forgotten to change the default and also not noticed that there were two

This patch really should be good, but please check.

Package: disc-cover
Version: 1.5.4-3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'm currently migrating from tetex to texlive and I had to uninstall
disc-cover as it depends on tetex-bin, tetex-base and tetex-extra.

So I tried to rebuild the package doing the following:
- I dropped the tetex-bin and tetex-base dependencies as tetex-extra
brings them.
- I changed the tetex-extra dependency for
tetex-extra | texlive-latex-extra.

With theses changes, disc-cover can be installed on my computer and
is working.

I don't know if texlive-latex-extra is the correct minimal dependency,
that's why I cced the bug to the debian tex maintainers list (if I
was wrong doing this I apology).

Sincerely,

Yannick

Bug#443702: I'm not MIA

2007-10-01 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)
Could you please avoid sending NMU's diff to an active maintainer ?

I'll fix fuse soon.
Moreover adding dpatch dependency seems to be crap, because I don't
think fuse source needs dpatch at all.

A proper fix would be to figure out why module building targets does
depend on dpatch.

Regards, Adam.

mysql-admin does not list mysql-admin-common in Conflicts or

Removal of mysql-admin-common happens at a later stage than the
install script for mysql-admin when mysql-gui-tools-common gets
the round tuits.

On 10/1/07, Cyril Brulebois [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
No. This issue is completely valid.
The .la file shipped with libsword-dev references libcurl.la.
Indeed, and that's the one I looked at when filing this bugreport:

Well, you didn't mention it in the bugreport. All you mentioned was
the output of a faulty libtool.

Instead of adding a dependency, a better fix would be to fix the .la
file to not include the reference to libcurl.la if it is not needed.
That's another way. But there's definitely a problem on libsword-dev
 AFAICT.

The .la file is broken. It lists a lot of dependencies that aren't
really needed, which can be verified by looking at the header files.

After talking about this in IRC with Julian Cristau and Steve
Langasek, we came to the conclusion that the best solution for this
problem might be to just stop shipping the .la file.

Sorry about that. I wanted to compile with the latest version of the

older Informix I was using (2.81.uc2) has stopped working on my
development system (/opt/informix/lib/libifgls.so: undefined reference

I'll try again.

Bug#443702: I'm not MIA

2007-10-01 Thread Nico Golde
Hi,
* Adam Cécile (Le_Vert) [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-10-01 21:38]:
Could you please avoid sending NMU's diff to an active maintainer ?
[...]
Well he did it like it is described in the developers
reference:
Make sure that the package's bugs that the NMU is meant to address are all
filed in the Debian Bug Tracking System (BTS). If they are not, submit them
immediately.

Wait a few days for the response from the maintainer. If you don't get any
response, you may want to help them by sending the patch that fixes the bug.
Don't forget to tag the bug with the patch keyword.

So why not being thankful about help you get instead of being pissed off?
Kind regards
Nico

Dear wing maintainer,

Your package had been recently binNMUed on hppa architecture.

As your package isn't binNMU safe, it is uninstallable on hppa. The
arch:any package looks depends on an arch:all package with a version
that doesn't exist.

More information can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/binNMU.

Please contact me if you have questions about this.

Package: ftjam
Version: 2.5.2-1

jam0 segfaults (at least on powerpc) when I compile it with a snapshot
of GCC 4.2. I'm not entirely sure whether this is a compiler bug or
one in your package, but from other cases like these it is likely that
your package is doing something wrong and that newer optimizations
exhibit the problem.

Maybe you or your upstream can investigate. If everything fails, I
can try to find someone who knows C/GCC well.

I've done some preliminary investigation which shows where the error
is. When you compile jam0 with gcc 4.2 (from the gcc-snapshot)
package, you'll get a segfault. When you drop the optimization for
rule.c to -O1, it works. So the problem seems to be there.

FWIW, when I ran gdb on different binaries, I got two different
tracebacks.

This seems to be related to #367825 where bjam segfaults.

I don't see these either. I wonder if it's related.

It indeed is. The problem is $ENV{http_proxy}. The test scripts
set up a local web server and then connect to it via the 'external'
address of the host. Almost all of the test scripts delete http_proxy
from the environment, with the exception of t/24-source-file.t.

If http_proxy is set and the test web server isn't reachable by the
proxy, t/24-source-file.t can't send 'GET /quit_server' to the server
and the server never exits, while the test script hangs waiting
for the child to terminate.

This is also CPAN #29455. I just sent the comments there as well.

The 'Useless content call' messages come from the same code path (ie. when
http_proxy is set) and happen because Test::HTTP::LocalServer::stop()
calls LWP::Simple::get() in a void context. Checking the result would
be a good idea, and I have suggested it upstream.

The simplest fix is to unset http_proxy and HTTP_PROXY in debian/rules
when calling the 'test' target. Patch attached.

Cheers,

Bug#444829:

2007-10-01 Thread Sam Morris
According to
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4802619, it seems I
am correct, and the whole browser exiting is due to a defect in the Java
plug-in. I hate crappy non-free software!

I also cannot reproduce the crash with appletviewer--only with epiphany
or iceweasel.
