Bug#453050: Same problem here

2007-11-27 Thread Arno van Amersfoort

Same problem here. Just upgraded to

3.0.24-6etch7 and my Windows machine's refuse to show several directories. Note that smbclient (//localhost/...)
does show the directories, so this is really weird. I also noticed that the info smbclient shows is all screwed up:

+(521 ~)# smbclient //localhost/projects -U arnova
  ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Password:
Domain=[EINSTEIN] OS=[]
Server=[___]
smb: \

Notice what the OS= Server= show. This was previously:

Domain=[EINSTEIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.24]

So I don't know what changed in this security update, but things seem *really* screwed up. Downgrading to 3.0.24-6etch5
also solved my problem here.

I have several machine's here running Debian 4.0/i386 and ALL suffer from the
same issue.

Bug#453050: samba: too-many-files-in-directory bug in 3.0.24-6etch6 too?

2007-11-27 Thread Erik Rossen
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.24-6etch6
Followup-For: Bug #453050

It was reported that 3.0.24-6etch7 had a problem with too many files in
a directory, but I think that I have at least one server experiencing
this problem with 3.0.24-6etch6. This is seen when attempting to load
older roaming profiles that have plenty of .lnk and IE bookmark files.
Loading the profile fails and the user gets a temporary one.

Returning to 3.0.24-6etch4 makes the problem go away.

This package does not exist at all in *ANY* Debian:

$ rmadison openoffice.org-spellcheck-de-at
$

Not even in sarge.

impress crashes when loading a document which has de-at spellcheck

And it is in myspell-de-at:

$ dpkg -L myspell-de-at

/usr/share/myspell/dicts/de_AT.aff
^^
/usr/share/myspell/dicts/de-AT.dic
/usr/share/myspell/dicts/de-AT.aff

Same with hunspell-de-at. How dwere you able to install
openoffice.org-spellcheck.de.at anyway given that it's not existant
anymore and both myspell-de-at and hunspell-de-at COnflict against it
(I thought dictionaries-common and/or OOo would too, but I don't find
it, hmm, probably I just removed it a while ago again as upgrade
sskipping a release (and with sarge you even shouldn't have this package
anymore) are not supported anyway.).

As I already said, in my other message the package does not exist anymore.

In myspell-de-at and hunspell-de-at:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2007-11-27 12:46 /usr/share/myspell/dicts/de_AT.aff -

Bug#453102: samba mount from Windows does not show all directories and files

2007-11-27 Thread Tibor Kovacs

Package: samba
Version: 3.0.14a-3sarge9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Unfortunately this latest samba package introduced a new bug:

Whereas the last package (3.0.14a-3sarge7) did not work with
smbfs/smbmount from Linux clients, this newest one (3.0.14a-3sarge9)
introduced an even worse new bug:

From windows clients the shares mounted do not show all the directories
and files existent on the share.
Some of them, though being there, are just not displayed in Windows
explorer, others show up without problem.
I do not understand why, because the directories have exactly the same
owners and rights.

Maybe their names can give some clues (these are just arbitrary examples):

not displayed: C29TH-95_F21-34
displayed normally: C01SX-18-1-FC2-f17-22

Both of them are directories. Both of them are displayed correctly from
Linux clients, both mounted by smbfs or cifs.

I had to revert to the buggy 3.0.14a-3sarge7 package that at least works
with Windows clients properly.
But we have some important old Redhat machines at our Institute with
kernel 2.4 that are not capable to mount CIFS, only SMB.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to identify the problem.

Best regards
Tibor Kovacs

Hi,

Roland Ambrosch wrote:
 thanks for your fast answers.
I tried figuring out where I got these versions from and my apt-cacher
tells that I have them from ftp.at.debian.org/testing. The problem came up
because these packages don't depend on myspell-de-de.

Indeed, I didn't check again since I knew that I added the depends but
it got removed by Roland in 20070829-1. Roland, can you explain why
exactly? What is in the past? We should not care about old ( etch)
hunspells...
With this change you broke openoffice.org, because it tried to load a
dictionary which is not existing ans Xulrunner/Ice*/enchant will not be
able to use it too I guess.

Indeed, there is no de_AT.aff in myspell-de-at at all... (de-AT.aff is
uninteresting for OOo but would be broken to since it's a symlink to
de_AT.aff). The OOo info file references de_AT, though and
Xulrunner/Iice* will also expect a working de-AT.aff:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/myspell/dicts$ cat ../infos/ooo/myspell-de-at
DICT de AT de_AT

Is it a problem with the mirror?

 myspell-de-at:
   Installed: 20070829-3
   Candidate: 20070829-3

No, it's fine. It just that you reported a bug against
*openoffice.org-spellcheck-de-at* which is *NOT* a real package in
Debian (but there once, at woody/sarge development times one, so I got
confused - ans I didn't really look at the version number, my bad, sorry)

Given the last message, I think that this isn't an issue specifically

So, I'm downgrading the severity, as it seems to be one specific

Bug#447464: [Fwd: Re: Debian: libfoundation: useful to keep?]

2007-11-27 Thread Paul Wise
I've been talking to upstream about adopting this package, their
thoughts on this RC bug:

 Forwarded Message
 From: Paul Wise [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 To: Helge Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED], Frank Reppin
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I would guess the shown bug is a gnustep-make packaging issue and
needs to be fixed. Apparently gnustep-make is not properly versioned,
you are trying to build libFoundation with gnustep-make 2.0 which is
  API incompatible with 1.1x.
[Summary: gnustep-make2 should live in a gnustep-make2 package, not
in gnustep-make1, this has potential to break a lot more software]

Correct, we have gnustep-make 2.0.1 in Debian sid/unstable. There don't
seem to have been any bugs filed about this change, I guess not many
GNUStep folks/developers use Debian sid. Can libfoundation1.1 work with
gnustep-make2? If so, perhaps it would be good to remove 1.0 and have
1.1 uploaded instead, if any packages that use it are compatible with
version 1.1, I don't see any packages in Debian that use it.

It seems the simpleopal binaries need libopal to run, adding

 the FTBFS for me.

 Patch attached.

Bug#453122: /usr/bin/gpg is suid root - unnecessary risk for rights elevation

2007-11-27 Thread Emjay
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.6-2
Severity: serious

gnupg binary is setuid root.

ls -l /usr/bin/gpg
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 837304 2007-03-07 23:16 /usr/bin/gpg

PROBLEMS

1) bugs in gnupg will potentially allow for rights-escalation by restricted
users
2) Setuid flag was necessary for backwards-compatibilty with 2.4.x kernels
which are no longer supported by etch anyway, the flag can therefore be
removed

SUGGESTION

- remove suid flag for user with

chmod u-s /usr/bin/gpg
Users can fix this issue by themselves by running this command as root.

- in order to find other setuid or setgid binaries type

find / \( -perm -004000 -o -perm -002000 \) -type f -print

Please note, that this error is architecture independent and that the
information given below is only about where the error was verified.

Bug#453126: octplot: doesn't work at all

2007-11-27 Thread Wesley J. Landaker
Subject: octplot: doesn't work at all
Package: octplot
Version: 0.4.0-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

octplot doesn't work at all.

  1) It doesn't automatically get into octave's path, so you have to use
addpath.

  2) Doing that doesn't help, because it doesn't work with octave2.9, even
though
that's what version the package depends on.

Basically, it's absolutely broken currently, which is a shame.

Bug#453128: octave-plplot: doesn't work at all

2007-11-27 Thread Wesley J. Landaker
Subject: octave-plplot: doesn't work at all
Package: octave-plplot
Version: 5.8.0~RC1-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

octave-plplot doesn't work at all, e.g.:

octave:1 plot([1:10])
usage: plot (y)
   plot (x, y, ...)
   plot (x, y, fmt, ...) plot (x, y, property, value, ...)
error: evaluating if command near line 28, column 3
error: called from `__plt__' in file
`/usr/share/octave/2.9.17/m/plot/__plt__.m'
error: called from `plot' in file `/usr/share/plplot_octave//plot.m'

Also, the documentation says to use LOADPATH, which doesn't work for octave2.9
anymore;
you have to use the addpath function instead.

While I have found out that the crash occurs in names_mark_index (at
 src/iname.c:341), I can't tell much more about the problem since I can't
produce a sensible binary for debugging. If somebody else can determine
the problem without fixing 446819, feel free to unblock.

fixing 446819 is quite trivial, just add:

CFLAGS:=$(CFLAGS) -g $(if $(findstring noopt,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)),-O0,-O2)

before the

DEB_CONFIGURE_SCRIPT_ENV := CFLAGS=$(CFLAGS) -fPIC CPPFLAGS=$(FT_CPPFLAGS)
LDFLAGS=-lpaper $(FT_LDFLAGS)

line

nostrip should be handled magically by cdbs already.

Bug#453050: Another confirmation.

2007-11-27 Thread Marco Gaiarin

I can confirm this bug meetoo for 3.0.14a-3sarge9, and also for me
downgrading to 3sarge4 fix immediately the truble.
I've also some etch installation, but i'm stopped to 3.0.24-6etch5 and
i'm not so brave to upgrade. ;)

I can confirm also roaming profile troubles, but this is not a
different bug, but the same one: roaming profiles are not sincronized
because of errors in the folders that have a big quantity of files or
files with long filenames, as cookie.

For many users, while tracking the problem, simply empty the cookie
folder solves the roaming profile syncronization error.

fwiw building in -O0 let gs work. Though it probably hides the issue,

Right, next time, I'll ask my sponsor about delayed upload.

I hope my terseness didn't sound impolite; it certainly wan't meant

Sorry if I was rude too. I hope that my sponsor will upload soon. He

it will be in NEW as soon as tomorrow.

A full build log can be found at
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=orpiearch=hppaver=1.5.1-2stamp=1191035771file=logas=raw.

This is a regression from previous versions of orpie, which built
successfully on both architectures.

It is also holding up the release-critical gsl update for the long double
ABI transition, so orpie will be removed from testing until this is
resolved.

Thanks,

No, I can still see that, like mbanck. However, it's probably caused by
a timestamp issue, since it works *sometimes*.

Is there any chance that you can test whether this is also a
problem with

the 3.0.27a Samba package in unstable?

I can confirm 3.0.27a from unstable does not have this problem - I
just rebuilt 3.0.27a for stable and I'm no longer seeing truncated
directory listings after installing it. This is with a moderately
sized directory - 234 entries.

Bug#453150: Broken Roaming Profiles with 3.0.24-6etch6 Debian package

2007-11-27 Thread Marcus Schopen
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.24-6etch6
Severity: grave

After upgrading from 3.0.24-6etch5 to 3.0.24-6etch6 users could not load
their profiles at login anymore. Errors popped out regarding problems
loading insignificant files from their profiles, such as cookies, links
to recently opened files, Java cache files, etc. This caused Windows to
open up a new temporary profile, making everyone lose their settings. In
some cases files on network shares are hidden, or have wrong/strange/cut
file names or can't be copied/moved. This has been testet with WinXP and
W2K clients.

I downgraded back to 3.0.24-6etch5 packages, and things seem to
be working fine again.

ii samba3.0.24-6etch6

Kernel 2.6.18-5-686 #1 SMP Wed Oct 3 00:12:50 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Marcus

Hello,
I had already realized some breakage when debdiffing 2.1.6-1 and
2.1.6-2 and suddenly finding the dependency on libgnutls13. I think
this happened when building while havin a old version of libgnutls-dev
installed, libtool somewhere linked against the wrong library.

Bug#447369: irssi-plugin-icq: FTBFS: icq-protocol.c:203: error: 'PACKAGE' undeclared (first use in this function)

2007-11-27 Thread Michael Banck
Just wondering, are you using this package?

I was thinking about asking for removal, rather.

If you want to maintain it, go ahead. If you don't, feel free to NMU,
or I'll fix it eventually (if I don't get it removed before)

cheers,

Michael

whops sorry... how many things happen when you're crossing the city

If it can be a further clue to fix/check the fix the size of dirs
doesn't seem to matter too much. I've experienced the same problem
with dirs with just 150 files.
Names too aren't the problem. I had the chance to move them around...
and files that didn't show up could appear if grouped with others
differently.
It just seems how file names reach a buffer/filter.

Curiously adding a dir to the dir containing the files make them
appear.

thx

 octplot doesn't work at all.

   1) It doesn't automatically get into octave's path, so you have to use
 addpath.

   2) Doing that doesn't help, because it doesn't work with octave2.9, even
though that's what version the package depends on.

Well, there's a reason for 1), namely 2). The reason that there's no new
version in Debian is that there's no new version from upstream. Octave
changed internals and Octplot's author is busy with Octave itself. So,
Octplot's development is currently frozen:

http://www.nabble.com/Plotting-problem-Octave-2.9.13-tf4511610.html#a12898162

Basically, it's absolutely broken currently, which is a shame.

I'm pretty sure Shai (Octplot's author) won't refuse any offer to help.

Thomas

Bug#452872: new libxml-sax-perl version at the pkg-perl SVN repository

2007-11-27 Thread Niko Tyni
Hi,

I have prepared a proposed new version of libxml-sax-perl, closing
all the open bugs including these two RC ones (#430118 and #452872).

I just pushed the packaging into the pkg-perl Alioth repository at

 svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-perl/trunk/libxml-sax-perl

The full changelog can be seen at

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-perl/trunk/libxml-sax-perl/debian/changelog?op=file

The patch I sent to #430118 corresponds to r9825. There were a few bugs
in it that I fixed since; see r9834, r9861 and r9866.

I can knit together a new patch targeted specifically at #430118 if
really needed, but I'd much prefer to have the whole updated package go
in as a maintainer upload. Jay, please comment.

Cheers,
