Bug#472854: gnat-4.3 needs a manual build for mips and mipsel
* Matthias Klose [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-03-26 22:05]: gcc-defaults 1.66 was built before gnat-4.3 on mips and mipsel; we now need a manual bootstrap. This could be done by either building gnat-4.3 in testing and uploading to unstable, or by building in unstable, and modifying debian/rules2 setting CC to gcc-4.1 (or gcc-4.2), and building with ignoring the build dependencies. I changed CC to gcc-4.2, but the build dies with: /home/tbm/src/gnat-4.3-4.3.0/build/./gcc/xgcc -B/home/tbm/src/gnat-4.3-4.3.0/build/./gcc/ -B/usr/mipsel-linux-gnu/bin/ -B/usr/mipsel-linux-gnu/lib/ -isystem /usr/mipsel-linux-gnu/include -isystem /usr/mipsel-linux-gnu/sys-include -c -g -O2 -W -Wall -gnatpg g-altcon.adb -o g-altcon.o g-altcon.adb:131:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:146:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:166:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:181:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:201:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:216:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:238:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:253:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:273:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:288:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:308:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:323:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:345:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:360:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:380:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:395:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:415:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:430:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:452:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:467:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:489:28: warning: condition is always False g-altcon.adb:504:28: warning: condition is always False make[7]: *** [g-altcon.o] Error 1 make[7]: Leaving directory `/home/tbm/src/gnat-4.3-4.3.0/build/gcc/ada/rts-static-sjlj' make[6]: *** [rts-static-sjlj/libgnat.a] Error 2 -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#472800: gnome-power-manager: same behaviour on sony vaio tz21mn
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 2.20.2-3 Followup-For: Bug #472800 I am seeing the same behaviour on my sony vaio laptop. Historically, this laptop had an etch system installed and at FOSDEM in late february, i migrated to lenny. With etch, gnome-power-manager was rather limited, it didn't catch the power button press, and suspend-to-ram didn't work, even though doing it by hand in /sys/power worked (well, it doesn't wake up, but you can at least put it to sleep). When i upgraded to lenny, i first had the dialog open when pressing the power button, but there is something else which powers down the laptop even without interacting with the dialog after a couple of seconds. I remember having the low-battery dialog appear, but i don't know if it was before or after the switch to lenny, but it has been broken since some weeks now. I attach a log containing both the dmesg output as well as the lspci info. Hi Josselin, I am unsure from the above if the unrelated is the total bug, or the below info, which i provided only in an informative way, since it may be related to the event handling (but then i am rather clueless in x86 hardware and acpi). Package: unattended-upgrades Version: 2.0 Severity: critical Tags: security See the package description: Description: Install security upgrades automatically This package will download and install security upgrades automatically ^^^ and unattended. It will take care to only install packages from the ^^ configured origin and will check for conffile prompts. It does no such thing. Not even if /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade is run manually does it actually install the upgrades, it just downloads them! It writes to its log files what commands it should have run to actually install the upgrades. The reason I set this bug to critical and tag it security is that the package promises to install security upgrades for the user but fails to act on that promise. This tricks the user into a false sense of security. There are no doubt users running insecure kernels and other software because of this bug. Regards, -- Göran Weinholt. Debian developer. Bug#473088: iceweasel FTBFS on mips/mipsel
Package: iceweasel Version: 2.0.0.12-2 Severity: serious Tags: patch Iceweasel currently FTBFS on mips and mipsel. The easiest way to fix it is to build like the other architectures do, by removing an obsolete workaround for a toolchain problem. (The current build-dep on binutils already ensures the toolchin is new enough). The appended patch implements this. Tested on mips, I believe mipsel will work with it as well. Bug#473094: libsvn-web-perl: dependencies are not set correctly
Package: libsvn-web-perl Version: 0.53-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable There are several dependencies for other packages missing. For example: libsvn-perl is needed but not automaticly installed libyaml-perlis needed but not automaticly installed libtemplate-perlis needed but not automaticly installed libexception-class-perl is needed but not automaticly installed Looking at the package with dpkg -s libsvn-web-perl shows that there are no dependencies set except for perl (= 5.6.0-16). This makes the package fairly usable and i wouldn't expect this in unstable. Perhaps in experimental. I hope this can be fixed soon. Bug#473097: openoffice.org: PDF export often put some weird font instead of the real ones
Package: openoffice.org Version: 1:2.4.0-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable For example save as PDF from OO.Org document exports seems well but in some places in the PDF documents, the FONT seems to be changed (or something like that). The result is that Latn-1 font (such as Arial/Deja Vu ) ar converted to Grrek or Cyrilic chars at some random place in the document. Restarting OO.org and trying a new export generates the substitution at other places but doesn't solve the problem. It seems (for me) that it most occurs within tables/spredsheets or included OLE sheets of Calc within Writer or Tables in Writer. But this I am not sure... Using CUPS-PDF writer don't reproduce this problem. So it seems located to OO.O PDF export... PS : I don't know how to attach a file but I can provide examples... Bug#471650: djvulibre: diff for NMU version 3.5.20-5.1
attached is the diff for my djvulibre 3.5.20-5.1 NMU which I just uploaded to DELAYED/1-day. That was very sweet of you; seriously, I appreciate it. Not sure if it will make it in though, because 3.5.20-6 has been in new for a couple days, waiting for overrides. That version takes a somewhat different approach: it breaks out the desktop support files from the lib.so.* files, so libdjvulibre15 and libdjvulibre21 can coexist. Having the support files in their own new binary package is, of course, why it requires overrides. Please let me know if this new version causes any trouble, or if you have any fixes that remain relevant post 3.5.20-6. Cheers, --Barak. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

So those fields will become quite common in the near future. And Lucas forgot to send to [EMAIL PROTECTED] which means that this bug never got reopened/reassigned. The version of dpkg generating this will soon hit unstable... so it's important to update the package quickly. Bug#469125: kvm/63+dfsg-1 with fixed bug again...
Am Montag, 17. Unfortunately with the old recently fixed bug (dependency etherboot does not exist in amd64) in source package. I'm building the arch-all package kvm-data on i386. This seems the only way to get the etherboot files. You can build only the arch-dependant part and use the kvm-data package from the debian archive. Could you please tell me how to do this!? Tried to build kvm_63+dfsg-2 today on amd64, with apt-src install --build kvm. Still error from unsatisfied dependancy 'etherboot'. On amd64 kvm can not be build. IMO this is a very poor state for the kvm package. I don't need etherboot in conjunction with kvm, so why kvm has to depend on it? Bug#473114: nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source: doesn't compile with 2.6.24 kernel
Package: nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source Version: 1.0.9639-1 Severity: serious Hi all! Are you by any chance planning to upload the newest 9xxx kernel driver any time soon? I'm using 9639 but it doesn't compile with kernel 2.6.24; I'm assuming that the 96.43 version will be similar, although I haven't yet tested it. I'm hoping that upstream have fixed this issue. Bug#473131: dbconfig-common: database backups are world-readable
Package: dbconfig-common Version: 1.8.37 Severity: serious Tags: security When dbconfig-common detects that a database upgrade is needed, it dumps a backup in /var/cache/dbconfig-common/backups. Unfortunately this backup is world-readable, which bypasses all application-specific access control mechanisms. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 44032 2008-03-27 20:47 /var/cache/dbconfig-common/backups/request-tracker3.6_3.6.6-1.mysql The Etch version of the package has the same bug, but as we discussed in private, it's currently unclear if any Etch packages are actually using the upgrade functionality. Note that PostgreSQL databases are unaffected by this because of #473013 (which also applies to the Etch version). This is because the HDIO_GETGEO ioctl is limited to 65535 cylinders (i.e. ~1TB), and for bigger values Linux just returns 65535. I'm not sure where the fix should be done: should the kernel error out when the cylinders don't fit, or should grub recognize 65535 as a bogus value and compute a fake geometry by itself? Or both? Note: there is another bug in bochs's bios which prevents from testing with bochs or qemu the patch is available on the bochs list, I'll probably file a bug against the bochs package too. Bug#395252: requires too much security maintainance work due to embedded ffmpeg copy - Lenny status
On Fri, Mar 28, 2008 at 02:41:19PM +, Neil McGovern wrote: Just a reminder that this is a RC issue, and needs resolving if mplayer is going to ship with lenny. Not that I am involved in this, but is it clear which are acceptable solutions? _If_ the FFmpeg version is compatible (easier to achieve by just not sticking to MPlayer releases but just updating it to SVN when FFmpeg is updated), just copying the libavformat/libavcodec/libswscale/libavutil directories over is one possibility - no idea if the build tools have an automated way for source-level code sharing though... Using the generated .a files should not be too much effort either, if there is a way to have some internal FFmpeg headers installed as well. Without those internal headers or when using .so files there would be a bit of trouble though, at the very least some features like -vf fspp would be lost... Bug#472826: openoffice.org-writer: Openoffice fails to start up with arphic fonts
I disagree, sorry. But it doesn't really matter anyway, see below. I'm embarrased to say but I agree with your tests now. This morning I gave it one more shot and renamed the arphic directory back to its original name and openoffice started up! But I swear I had tried this at least 6 times (really!) before filing the bug report and every time it crashed (as the strace output showed). I supposed the bug severity can be lowered (or even closed) now that it seems to be running fine! Thanks. -- Koo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#448501: Status update on debfoster's removes-too-much bug
I'll be unable to work on this during the next week, and haven't managed to make substantial progress so far. Here's what needs to be done: /var/lib/dpkg/status needs to be read twice, once to gather the installed package versions (this a new pass), and another time to do the dependency extraction (the current pass). During depedency extraction, version information in Depends/Recommends/Suggests needs to be parsed (new code) and compared to the installed versions (comparison code needs to be copied from dpkg or apt, preferably the latter). A conditional dependency which cannot be fulfilled by the currently installed package version should be dropped. Ideally, this should be moved into the actual package pruning process, but this would require changing the data structures, turning package names/references into package/version pairs. This change is rather invasive, that's why I want to avoid it. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#471380: Intent to NMU viewvc to fix pending po-debconf l10n and security bugs
Dear Debian maintainer, The viewvc Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes for po-debconf, namely bug number 426876 (and maybe other similar bugs). Even if we're still far from the release of the next Debian version, letting such bugs sleep in the BTS is simply lowering the chances that your package interaction with its users may be done in something else than the English language. It is also not encouraging for translators. I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for viewvc in order to fix this as well as all pending translations for the debconf templates. I will also, while doing that, package the 1.0.5 upstream version that fixes several security issues. Of course, an upload made by you would even be better...:-) Such changes are always harmless, which explains why I safely consider building NMU's for such issues even though they're obviously non critical. The schedule for the NMU (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it or if I don't receive any answer in 14 days) is roughly the following: Friday, March 28, 2008 : send this notice Saturday, April 12, 2008 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you (maintainer) CC'ed Tuesday, April 22, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates Wednesday, April 23, 2008 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Friday, April 25, 2008 : NMU reaches incoming If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt the process on my side. In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for viewvc and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix any issue potentially introduced by my upload. Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this process. If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package alone. This source package contains the following files from the IETF under non-free license terms: kdepimlibs-4.0.0/kioslave/sieve/draft-murchison-sieve-subaddress-05.txt kdepimlibs-4.0.0/kioslave/sieve/draft-murchison-sieve-regex-06.txt kdepimlibs-4.0.0/kioslave/sieve/draft-martin-managesieve-04.txt kdepimlibs-4.0.0/kioslave/sieve/draft-showalter-sieve-vacation-04.txt kdepimlibs-4.0.0/kioslave/sieve/draft-martin-sieve-notify-01.txt kdepimlibs-4.0.0/kioslave/sieve/draft-degener-sieve-body-00.txt and in the same directory also: draft-daboo-sieve-include.txt draft-daboo-sieve-spamtest.txt draft-degener-sieve-copy.txt draft-degener-sieve-editheader.txt draft-degener-sieve-multiscript.txt draft-homme-sieve-variables.txt draft-melnikov-sieve-imapflags.txt The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see: * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free: * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy: * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of preference: 1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments 2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package version name. 3. Move the package to non-free. General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages. Bug#472648: Clear dep-wait on wine

Could you clear the dep-wait so I can see if it works? Thanks. It failed with: dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: couldn't find library libldap_r-2.4.so.2 needed by debian/libwine-ldap/usr/lib/wine/wldap32.dll.so (its RPATH is ''). Allright. I was told the --ignore-missing-info would be enough, but I guess it only worked around two of the ia32-libs bugs, not all 3. Well, good to know.
