Bug#462268: [Popcon-developers] Bug#462268: i dont understand this...
[Bill Allombert] The number of stable subscription has been raising again before we change unstable. This is true, and I can not explain it. The number of machine running unstable is so small that it cannot do a difference. I believe this is false. As almost all machines in a given time zone will try to report at the same time (if they got a correct clock), I believe the 5000 machines reported to run unstable is enough to affect the result. As more and more unstable machines was upgraded and stopped competing for the small time slot used by the other popcon.debian.org submitters, the number of submissions grew. And If a DOS did occur, it would take down every web service hosted onnn gluck, not just popcon and we would probably hear from it. Actually, only services being contacted at the same time as popcon results are submitted, sundays 06:47 for all time zones. So I believe it is unlikely we would hear about it, as the DOS situation would be over very soon, and thus a reload would hide the issue for those seeing it while accessing other web pages on gluck.debian.org. As can be seen from URL: http://popcon.debian.org/ , the submission growth has stopped. After sunday, we should see if the number of submissions have gone down since I uploaded the package without the random submission time patch to unstable. So far the increase since 2008-03-18 has been 794 submissions. The number of stable submissions have dropped by 13, and the increase is mostly with installations of testing. I'm very curious what these numbers will be on sunday, after the popcon.debian.org web pages are updated that day. :) Happy hacking, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. When I reboot it, I'll test an initrd.img by initramfs-tools and write down the error messages as far as I can. add an rootdelay=9 (maybe a bit higher for alpha) bootparam, makes the wait for the rescue console where you can see which devices are up better to bear. it seems to make people to lazy to report. 2.6.22 is 1/2 a year ago. I remembered 2.6.24 came down into testing only about a week ago. I don't think I'm lazy here. sure but i was reffering to the initramfs-tools failure, who is the default tool and known to generaly work on alpha. thanks for quick reaction -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#473950: translate-toolkit: FTBFS: Unsatisfiable build-dependency: python(inst 2.4.4-6 ! = wanted 2.5)|python-elementtree(missing)
Hi, On Wed, Apr 02, 2008 at 12:41:52PM +0200, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on i386. Thanks a lot for all these rebuilds and analysis. Build deps on a | b are not supported by sbuild, because they would cause uncertainties in the resulting binaries. Please don't use them, and choose a single python version in your build-deps. This is explicitly allowed by policy (7.1), and is really what is needed to build the translate toolkit. The toolkit needs the ElementTree module from xml.etree (provided by python2.5) or from elementtree (provided by the python-elementtree module). The module is needed during the build to load applications and generate manpages. It will not really be used and will not cause uncertainties in the resulting binaries. This dependency permits to use the same package on Debian, Ubuntu, and backport. I will check later what I will do with this bug (it is IMO a bug in sbuild). I can imagine some solutions to fix this bug: * invert the '|' dependencies. This should bypass the bug in sbuild now, and this will have to be reverted when Debain will switch to python 2.5 * Always build with python-elementtree. This will make the package FTBFS when Debian will move to python 2.5 This will make the Ubuntu package to differ from the Debian package * Always build with python2.5 This will make the package FTBFS when Debian will move to python 2.6 This will make the backport package to differ * Do not build the manpages at build time This makes the build process non-automatic * python2.5 could Provide python-elementtree. Currently it provides python-elementtree2.5 python-elementtree and python-elementtree2.5 are not identical the import line in Python is different, so I don't think it would be correct. My preference would go to the first one (or fix sbuild). I will wait for the translate toolkit to exit the NEW queue (#472954) before uploading any changes. Bug#473469: need to restart dbus before starting odccm in postinst
Even if '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/odccm.conf' is installed, starting odccm will not necessarily work. To be sure that dbus picks up the conf file, add /etc/init.d/dbus restart early in 'odccm.postinst', before it starts oddcm. -- Thomas E. Bug#473973: [pkg-boost-devel] Bug#473973: libboost-python-dev: rdeps fails to built - python packaging seems weird
On Wed, Apr 02, 2008 at 02:21:17PM +0200, Sune Vuorela wrote: Justification: packaging on crack That's a little harsh considering the limited analysis you presented. Looking at the newer boost-python-dev packages, I see tihs: $ dpkg -L libboost-python-dev | grep /usr/lib [ ... ] Now - anything that tries linking with -lpython_boost or -lpython_boost-mt fails. I'm assuming you really meant -lboost_python and -lboost_python-mt Why aren't there default python symlinks ? There are default symlinks. You won't see them in dpkg -L output because they are created by the postinst script, depending on which python you have installed. You should see something like: /usr/lib/libboost_python-mt.so - libboost_python-mt-py24.so /usr/lib/libboost_python.so - libboost_python-py24.so What is output of dpkg l python ls -l /usr/lib/libboost_python{,-mt}.so If the latter doesn't show the symlinks, run sudo /usr/share/python/runtime.d/libboost-python-dev.rtupdate rtupdate none python2.4 ls -l /usr/lib/libboost_python{,-mt}.so If there are no symlinks at install time, then please help me to understand what went wrong. There was a bug in the -8 and -9 versions in that boost-python-dev failed to install if no python was installed (#473607). This is fixed in -10. However, -10 has a bug in that you can install libboost-python-dev without python and get no compatibility scripts. I had thought that the subsequent install of python would run the rtupdate script and create the symlinks, but that does not seem be the case. If this is your situation, you can work around it by invoking rtupdate as shown above. Please let me know what sequence of package installs (and what version of libboost-python-dev) led to the situation of no symlinks. Thanks, -Steve signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#473469: need to restart dbus before starting odccm in postinst
Thank you Thomas. I was not aware of this. Ben, can you confirm that restarting dbus allows odccm to work? Thanks, Thanks guys that has indeed worked as desired. I restarted the dbus demon and then simply allowed aptitude to reconfigure the partly installed package and that has now installed. A little more analysis. If I ask specifically for -lboost_python-py24 or -lboost_python-py25 or -lboost_python-mt-py24 or -lboost_python-py25, kdeedu seems to build properly. If I just ask for one of the defaults (-lboost_python or -lboost_python-mt it doesn't build) Please let me know what sequence of package installs (and what version of libboost-python-dev) led to the situation of no symlinks. The sequence of installation described here leaves it without those symlinks: http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2008/04/01/kdeedu_4%3A3.5.9-1_sid32.buildlog The build scripts tries to figure out the correct boost_python by trying the following: -lboost_python-mt -lboost_python-gcc-mt-1_32 -lboost_python-gcc-mt-1_31 -lboost_python-gcc-mt -lboost_python and see if anyone succeeds. kdeedu build doesn't fail by itself if it isn't found as it is only optional, but we test afterwards if it is actually build. /Sune -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
