Bug#453241: [JIRA] Created: (HEIMDAL-117) Re: [Heimdal-bugs] Bug#453241: still broken (and partly openssh's fault)
To provide a bit of additional information (I should have pasted in the config.log output as well), the existing check fails on x86_64 because it uses -shared to link the test object but doesn't use -fPIC. This works on x86, but other platforms, such as x86_64, require all objects that go into a shared object be built PIC and the link dies with relocation errors. There's probably something better to do here than just blindly add - fPIC, based on what the correct PIC flag is for the compiler used, but I wasn't sure how to get at that. How about using libtool ? Can you test this patch ? http://www.h5l.org/fisheye/changelog/heimdal/?cs=23146 Love

Bug#478057: [hardening-discuss] Linker fails on i386 and amd64 with hardening options

The build also fails on Sparc, but I don't have the config.log to tell why. I expect it's the same reason. hardening-wrapper isn't setting -Wl,-zrelro,-pie ... that command-line is wrong. First, for relro, it should be -Wl,-z,relro. I've took this from the announcement [1]. (there was the dash missing.) [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2008/01/msg6.html -pie needs to be specified on the gcc command-line, not the linker command-line, since gcc is responsible for choosing the crt, etc. Do you know what the origin of the -Wl addition is? Yes, it's the above mentioned mail. From there I took the -pie, too: “PIE is enabled by passing -fPIE to all object builds, and passing -pie to the final link.” So, I thought “the final link” is the linker call and man ld knows the -pie option. I didn't realise that hardening-wrapper is also for packages. I thought it's something for userspace. I'll switch to hardening-wrapper. Bug#474412: galleta - FTBFS: rm: cannot remove `bin': Is a directory
tags 474412 -patch thanks Sebastian Bober wrote: the clean target of debian/rules tries to run rm -f bin. As bin is a directory, this needs to be changed to rm -rf bin. The attached patch does just that. The package builds then fine on i386 and amd64. Build logs can be found at: removing bin doesn't help, it needs further adjustments. the actual problem is that bin is an empty directory (and thus is not present in git), and which doesn't get created by the upstream makefile, but it is needed to place in the upstream binary. -- Address:Daniel Baumann, Burgunderstrasse 3, CH-4562 Biberist Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Internet: http://people.panthera-systems.net/~daniel-baumann/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#478478: gnome-terminal: copy/paste using the middle mouse button is broken.
Package: gnome-terminal Version: 2.22.1-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable When copy pasting using from a gnome terminal, selecting a bit of text, and using the middle mouse button to paste does not work. Doing the same from xfce4-terminal or plain xterm does work, and even pasting to gnome-terminal does work. Using the right-mousr-button contextual menu copy/paste usually works though, but i also had cases where it didn't work. Don't remember exactly the details though. When pasting with the middle mouse button, the previous selection is kept and pasted. The reason for the severity, is dual, i consider a terminal without proper copy/paste support barely useable, and more importantly, there is a risk of security leaks or plain destructive error through bad copy/pasting. It may seem a bit exagerated though, so ... A library isn't allowed to drop symbols without changing SONAME. This symbol is exported by libsqlite3.so.0 in etch and used by sqlite3, and the dependencies of sqlite3 don't prevent you from upgrading the lib without upgrading sqlite3 itself, which means your package is broken. When started with CAIRO_DIRECTFB_NO_ACCEL=true in the environment, the display is fine. I have tested this with both cdebconf tests and by passing it as an argument on the debian-installer boot command line. If the issue happens to need time to be properly solved, we could probably define this variable during d-i startup until then. The maintainers are OK to revert the code changes that broke it in case it is not solved upstream in near future. Bug#478254: modifying device.map seems to solve
severity 478254 normal retitle 478254 update-grub: guessing BIOS partition order is unreliable thanks The problem here is that you can't be certain about how the BIOS will enumerate devices. GRUB just guesses, which is sometimes not good. A solution would be to switch to disk labels, uuid or something like that. On Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 12:11:02AM +0800, 杨朝晖 wrote: I just noticed /boot/grub/device.map, tried modifying it (exchange hd0 and hd1 mappings) and re-run update-grub. Now everything looks right and I expect later installation of new kernels will boot successfully too. Is this device.map the intended work-around for the problem? When and what program will regenerate it? Yes, manual of device.map is the intended work-around. It's only regenerated when it's found to be missing, or when it's found to be incomplete/unusable. -- Robert Millan The technological evasion of the license is as unacceptable as the legal evasion of the license [...]. However, as you can see on line 156 of http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=libtommath;ver=0.39-2;arch=s390;stamp=1209376922, sbuild is actually calling the build target -- not the binary-arch target as previously asserted. Version 4.3 has not been released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler other than GCC). There's some more information about this at http://www.cyrius.com/journal/2007/05/10#gcc-4.3-include You can reproduce this problem with gcc-snapshot from unstable. Note that Red Hat, Novell and Ubuntu have done some work getting packages to build with GCC 4.3 so there might be patches floating around somewhere. I suggest you talk to your upstream. This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3 is now the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on i386 yet). Feel free to downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386, and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with gcc 4.2). Bug#478527: python-xpcom: depends on bogus Python version current

You can remove dh_python from your rules file.' and the change in the options passed to dh_pysupport, which went from -a to -ppython-xpcom /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9/python... Bug#478337: symbol lookup error: sqlite3: undefined symbol: sqlite3_enable_load_extension

I'm a DD as well and I know the rules. Still, SQLite3 extensions was not enable by upstream but me. As version 3.5.7 restructured the source a bit I missed to enable it in that version as well. I have corrected this in version 3.5.8-1, so the bug reported is only temporary until 3.5.8-1 reaches Lenny and can be easily corrected with upgrading sqlite3 binary to the same version as the library package. Read: the sqlite3 binary package does not need extensions to function properly, extensions support is optional and re-enabled in 3.5.8-1.
