Hi Julien,
I've just upgraded my system and this wasn't fixed. I believe that this is a
kernel problem though, but I don't know which package I should assign it to:
kernel? linux-image?
I've found, googling a bit, that this might be related (kernel option
i8042.debug=1 at boot time -- relevant bits only):

Bug#478105: funguloids: crashes on startup

2008-05-02 Thread Mika Halttunen

Hi,

funguloids crashes for me using ogre-1.4.7. This started since ogre-1.4.6
actually but I haven't noticed it until now. I've attached a log showing the
error.

Hmm.. those errors indicate that funguloids.mpk and bootstrap.mpk files
are either corrupted, or don't get loaded correctly. I suspect the
latter. And actually it must be that, since the MPK files have a CRC32
in them that is checked. Perhaps some Ogre changes prevent the custom
MPakArchive from working properly.

First thing you could try, is check these lines in mpakogre.cpp: (lines
140-143)

// Construct and return stream
DataStreamPtr mpak(new MPakDataStream(filename,
fil,(size_t)mPakFile-current_file_size,(size_t)mPakFile-current_file_offset));

return DataStreamPtr(new MemoryDataStream(filename, mpak));

//return DataStreamPtr(new MPakDataStream(filename,
fil,(size_t)mPakFile-current_file_size,(size_t)mPakFile-current_file_offset));

I remember having some issues with the commented line, which should work
as it is, IMHO. I found out that creating a MemoryDataStream of the
MPakDataStream would work, but perhaps something has been done to that.
Try commenting the active lines and uncommenting the last line there.

Other than that, I have no idea at the moment. I'll probably investigate
this further once I have some time.. :) Thanks for reporting this,
though - and do drop me a note if you get it working.

Hi!

Please find attached a patch to fix this bug. The patch does the
following:

1. Regenerates the copyright hints.
2. Removes the -Wl,--disable-rpath ld flag, which doesn't seem to
   exist. Anyway, rpath issues don't arise since --disable-rpath is
   passed to configure anyway.
3. Adds a proper check to detect cross building.

I hope you are able to use this patch to fix this RC bug.

Thanks.

Yup, this works, although it produces a bunch of spurious output in

middle of the configure run (I think because libtool is trying to be
a bit

too smart and report what it's doing).

Great, thanks for the confirmation.

Bug#479010: umbrello: segfaults and assert failure when starting, opening a document or closing app

2008-05-02 Thread Marcus Better
Package: umbrello
Version: 4:4.0.72-1
Severity: grave

umbrello keeps crashing in interesting ways. The crashes seem to
happen in the Qt libs so it's possibly a Qt problem.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start with a clean config by removing .kde4/share/config/umbrellorc.
2. Launch umbrello.
3. Immediately close umbrello. It segfaults with the stack trace below.

4. Further attempts to launch umbrello yield

  ASSERT failure in QListT::operator[]: index out of range, file
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qlist.h, line 401

The crash in step 3 also happens if a document is opened using the
File menu.

  I attach my dmesg to this mail, so that anyone can see it.

  Please Julien, consider re-assigning this bug (as soon as possible, I'll try
  downgrading the whole system to testing, and see which package has problems)

 reassigning to the kernel.

Thanks.

 Please tell us what kernel image are you using, which version, etc, and
 if your touchpad used to work, what kernel you were using at the time.

I'm currently using:

# uname -a
Linux pingu 2.6.25-1-686 #1 SMP Mon Apr 28 13:54:58 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

I installed it to see if a newer kernel made my touchpad work, but not.
I used to run 2.6.23-3~snapshot.10051 (I know, I know, it was an experimental
package), but everything worked fine. Same kernel both in working and
non-working
case. I suspect something very wrong went with device registering/detection,
udev,
or something similar.
As already said to Julien, I'll try to downgrade my system to lenny, hoping
I can spot the package which causes problems.

Julien, I don't know if you still want to be informed about this bug, so I'm
keeping you CCed. Please remove yourself if you're not interested.

Thanks,
David

P.S.: re-attaching the dmesg, since Julien's reply didn't have it.

Bug#478573: intent to NMU

2008-05-02 Thread Nico Golde
Hi,
uploading 0-day NMU with maintainers permission.
debdiff attached and also archived on:
http://people.debian.org/~nion/nmu-diff/peercast-0.1218+svn20080104-1_0.1218+svn20080104-1.1.patch

Note, looking at the debdiff you will see that
dh_listpackages were added in some log files. I did not do
this, they are added automatically. Should be fixed in the
build system later :)

Kind regards
Nico

I found a security issue in the peercast server in the
HTTP::getAuthUserPass function. I already contacted the upstream author 6 days
ago and didn't get an answer yet so I am publishing this now.

From core/common/http.cpp:

105 void HTTP::getAuthUserPass(char *user, char *pass)
106 {
107 if (arg)
108 {
109 char *s = stristr(arg,Basic);
110 if (s)
111 {
112 while (*s)
113 if (*s++ == ' ')
114 break;
115 String str;
116 str.set(s,String::T_BASE64);
117 str.convertTo(String::T_ASCII);
118 s = strstr(str.cstr(),:);
119 if (s)
120 {
121 *s = 0;
122 if (user)
123 strcpy(user,str.cstr());
124 if (pass)
125 strcpy(pass,s+1);

This function is used if authentication to the peercast server is done by basic
http auth
rather than by a cookie. In line 116 the base64 encoded string is copied into
str.
Note the set method is peercasts own implementation of set since it
reimplements the String
class. set looks like this:

From core/common/sys.h:
38 MAX_LEN = 256
...
62 void set(const char *p, TYPE t=T_ASCII)
63 {
64 strncpy(data,p,MAX_LEN-1);
65 data[MAX_LEN-1] = 0;
66 type = t;
67 }

In line 117 the string gets decoded and in line 118 and
following the part before ':' in the decoded string gets copied
into user and the part after it into pass.

From core/common/servhs.cpp:
558 bool Servent::handshakeAuth(HTTP http,const char *args,bool local)
559 {
560 char user[64],pass[64];
561 user[0] = pass[0] = 0;
...
580 while (http.nextHeader())
581 {
582 char *arg = http.getArgStr();
583 if (!arg)
584 continue;
585
586 switch (servMgr-authType)
587 {
588 case ServMgr::AUTH_HTTPBASIC:
589 if (http.isHeader(Authorization))
590 http.getAuthUserPass(user,pass);
591 break;

user and pass are only declared to have 64 bytes (line 558) while the buffer
used for
copy can store up to MAX_LEN (256) bytes (ok minus the : here).
Servent::handshakeAuth calls then
the getAuthUserPass function triggering a buffer overflow.
It's thus possible to crash the server and execute arbitrary code if the server
allows http-basic authentication.

I already requested a CVE id for this.

An example configuration and PoC is attached.

Kind regards
Nico

I rebuilded all 0.4.x fraqtive releases with the newer qt4-x11 builds
and all versions fail now with the same reason.
While it was working before I think it's an fault in qt4-x11 itself. :(

I'm sorry while I'm at work I haven't got the time to test it with older
qt4-x11 builds and releases.

Another curiosity is, that I just get the following output with
installed libqt4-dbg symbols:

Bug#475691: munin-node: Hang the boot because it fail to put daemon in the background

2008-05-02 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi Petter,

 I guess it need to be fixed there. On the other hand I would
 recommend munin-node dying with an error instead of blocking the boot
 when it encounter a bogus configuration file. It would have avoided
 this problem.

So if I understand this bug correctly, it can be downgraded to a wishlist
please error on bogus configuration file?

Bug#475691: munin-node: Hang the boot because it fail to put daemon in the background

2008-05-02 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Thijs Kinkhorst]
 So if I understand this bug correctly, it can be downgraded to a
 wishlist please error on bogus configuration file?

Well, I find it important that a bogus configuration file can block
the boot completely and make the machine fail to come up as it should.
Not sure if 'wishlist' is the correct severity for such problem. :)

Anyway, the problem I had with the blocked boot is solved.

Happy hacking,

Package: xserver-xorg-input-fpit
Version: 1:1.1.0-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When running X everything is fine until I touch the touchscreen when X dies.

The system is unusbale as the display does not refresh and all I see is the
non-updating X server window, even though all X processes are no longer
running.

If I connect from another PC, I get an error along the lines of Undefined
function IsCorePointer

I'm afraid I do nt have access to another machine to check this from at the
moment.

Using the version cuurently in Lenny works fine, but Sid produces this error.

Any more info I can give, I shall try getting another machine to try running
the startx from another machine again.

Regards,
TreeBoy

Bug#476802: gnome-settings-daemon

2008-05-02 Thread Clemens Krammer

Dear all,

I confirm that the problem persists after upgrading to

ii  gnome-settings-daemon 2.22.1-2

Interesting, I also get this strange keyboard warnings, and I also run
through a vnc.

The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 2444 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error()
function.)

Bug#479039: CVE-2008-1959: Potential security problems

2008-05-02 Thread Nico Golde
Hi Steffen,
* Steffen Joeris [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-05-02 14:46]:
 Package: sip-tester
 Severity: important
 Tags: Security

 Hi

 The following CVE(0) has been issued against sip-tester.

 Please check, if it applies to the debian version.

 CVE-2008-1959:
 Stack-based buffer overflow in the get_remote_video_port_media function
 in call.cpp in SIPp 3.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of
 service and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted SIP message.
 NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

BTW: the same issue affects get_remote_ip_media() and
get_remote_ipv6_media(), both unfixed in latest upstream
release (3.1) and the version in Debian:

122 uint32_t get_remote_ip_media(char *msg)
123 {
124 char pattern[] = c=IN IP4 ;
125 char *begin, *end;
126 char ip[32];
127 begin = strstr(msg, pattern);
128 if (!begin) {
129   /* Can't find what we're looking at - return no address */
130   return INADDR_NONE;
131 }
132 begin += sizeof(c=IN IP4 ) - 1;
133 end = strstr(begin, \r\n);
134 if (!end)
135   return INADDR_NONE;
136 memset(ip, 0, 32);
137 strncpy(ip, begin, end - begin);
138 return inet_addr(ip);
139 }

145 uint8_t get_remote_ipv6_media(char *msg, struct in6_addr addr)
146 {
147 char pattern[] = c=IN IP6 ;
148 char *begin, *end;
149 char ip[128];
150
151 memset(addr, 0, sizeof(addr));
152 memset(ip, 0, 128);
153
154 begin = strstr(msg, pattern);
155 if (!begin) {
156   /* Can't find what we're looking at - return no address */
157   return 0;
158 }
159 begin += sizeof(c=IN IP6 ) - 1;
160 end = strstr(begin, \r\n);
161 if (!end)
162   return 0;
163 strncpy(ip, begin, end - begin);

Kind regards
Nico

Bug#402811: linux-modules-* fixes probably unnecessary

2008-05-02 Thread Ken Bloom
After consulting with Daniel Baumann [EMAIL PROTECTED], it appears
that it's unnecessary for linux-modules-* to add an epoch or change
its versioning scheme. modules-assistant still requires fixing, by
adding an epoch to all modules it creates, and reversing the version
number to match linux-modules-*'s scheme, however no coordination with
linux-modules-* is necesary.

I am closing the bugs againt linux-modules-*.

Bug#479083: uninstallable: depends on missing version of perlapi (breaks bugzilla!)

2008-05-02 Thread James Paige
Package: libtemplate-perl
Version: 2.19-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

libtemplate-per depends on perlapi-5.8.8 which does not exist (anymore?) in
unstable. The only version of perlapi I can find
is 5.10.0

I notice there was an upgrade to perl in unstable last night, so the breakage
might have come from that direction.

The brokenness of libtemplate-perl causes bugzilla to be uninstalled, which is
(at least for my system) disasterous, since
that is one of the most important things I am running :(

Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2008 14:55:09 +0900

Dear maintainers,

When upgrading libmono-addins0.2-cil, I got the following error:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Échec de l'installation d'un paquet. Tentative de réparation :
Paramétrage de libmono-addins0.2-cil (0.3.1-3) ...

It says that it can not remove
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libmono-addins0.2-cil.postinst because it did not find
/usr/share/cli-common/policy-remove. Indeed, this file is not in
cli-common-0.5.2. Therefore, I think that you have to depend on a higher
version to ensure smooth upgrades.

Have a nice day,

Bug#479083: uninstallable: depends on missing version of perlapi (breaks bugzilla!)

Yes, indeed. This is expected and there is a schedule for binNMUing such
packages - see http://wiki.debian.org/Perl5.10Transition

 The brokenness of libtemplate-perl causes bugzilla to be uninstalled, which
 is (at least for my system) disasterous, since
 that is one of the most important things I am running :(

The solution, then, is not to upgrade your perl package yet. It's not
possible to avoid such things in unstable, and you should always check
what apt-get plans to do when upgrading/dist-upgrading. You might be
able to fix things by adding testing to your sources.list and
downgrading the relevant packages.

Cheers,
Dominic.

Bug#472180: dbus interacts badly with Xprt

2008-05-02 Thread Drew Parsons
dbus is causing Xprt to using 95% cpu. When ./configured with
--disable-dbus, Xprt behaves normally.

Tested back to around 17d85387d1e6851d35474b65929e268ca64ef65b (5 Feb
2007 / 18 Jan 2007)[to build, need to add (cherry-pick)
fb8eb230356c70ea3b417ea6598dfb126ad50db7 for InputDevice stubs and
25499ad777f50e6bf8230347eee9e87a1166246f for DDXRingBell().  Add -lhal
-ldbus-1 by hand to Xprt_LDADD in obj-i486-linux-gnu/hw/xprint/Makefile
to link in dbus.]

Going back further (without disabling dbus) is difficult, because Xprt
builds but gives the runtime error:
[dbus] couldn't take over org.x.config: (null) ((null))

I think this means the bug has come out of the input-hotplug
development, which entered xserver 1.4.

Interesting, it doesn't for me -- when I build in my sid cowbuilder

Also if I build in a freshly updated lenny cowbuilder chroot.

My _guess_ is more that the problem is related to libsqlite3-dev, sid

Bug#479096: [xbattbar-acpi] No battery detected with kernel 2.6.25

2008-05-02 Thread Antoine Sirinelli
Package: xbattbar-acpi
Version: 0.4.0-1
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

After upgrading the kernel to the new Debian 2.6.25-1 one, xbattbar-acpi
is no longer working. Now, the OSD information gives no battery. It is
working with the Debian kernel 2.6.24-1.

I join strace output of xbattbar-acpi running with 2.6.24-1 kernel and a
2.6.25-1 kernel. It seems it has trouble evaluating the informations in
/sys/class/power_supply/ instead of /proc/acpi/.

Bug#479097: texlive-fonts-extra: License statement for bbm is missing

2008-05-02 Thread Frank Küster
Package: texlive-fonts-extra
Version: 2007.dfsg.1-2
Severity: serious

I had a closer look at the bbm issue already raised in an other bug (in
Cc), which we thought was fixed, however it is not. There are two
related bbm directories on CTAN, one for the macros (license LPPL), one
for the fonts themselves by a different author. The file readme.bbm,
mentioned in the other bug report, only refers to the macros.

The fonts do also have a file bbm.readme, which is very old. From the
wording it seems that the fonts are intended to be free, but there is no
explicit license statement at all.

By the way, I found this while I wanted to document and register our
knowledge that bbm is free in the catalogue. It turns out that it is
really useful to check the package against its tpm file, because you
find cases like this, were different files are covered by a license than
you thought...

Regards, Frank

After a couple of test with a friend and a similar video card, I think
that enabling the Record 3D option before recording could fix the
issue.

Can you please try it? Moreover, what wm are you using?

 Yes, the same error occurs. So could you please reassign this bug to

Let's try to avoid some work to xorg maintainers, please send the whole

   /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31

Bug#479097: Looking for Gilles Robert, author of the bbm fonts

2008-05-02 Thread Frank Küster
Hi TeX-live folks,

the bbm fonts do have a readme (bbm.readme, not readme.bbm which is for
the macros and fd files) from the old days which sounds as if the fonts
were intended to be free, but it lacks an explicit license statement
(and does not at all touch the subject of modification).

Therefore I'd like to try to contact their author,

Gilles Robert.

I haven't tried yet the e-mail address given in the readme, since it
points to the server of a university institute, but their homepage does
not list him as member of the staff.

Any ideas? He's listed in the math genealogy project, and there's a link
there to
http://www.ams.org/mathscinet/search/authors.html?authorName=651685Submit=Search
which I'm not entitled to use - but I don't expect much from that.

TIA, Frank

Bug#479056: grub: destroys /boot/grub/device.map

This is (probably) intentional. When device.map doesn't contain the needed
information, it regenerates it with grub-mkdevicemap in an attempt to solve
the situation.

 and then outputs the following error message:

 Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
 grub-probe: error: Cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/vda1. Check your
 device.map.

 Here is the contents of /boot/grub/device.map before it is destroyed:
 (fd0)   /dev/fd0
 (hd0)   /dev/vda

 /dev/vda corresponds to the first virtio device.

AFAICS there are two problems here:

  - grub-mkdevicemap doesn't grok virtio devices. Could you confirm the
attached quick dirty patch makes it work? Also, is this device path
Linux-specific?

  - grub-probe can't handle the conversion (once device.map is correct).  I
need more information about this. Try:
  grub-probe -t drive -d /dev/vda -v
and maybe also:
  grub-probe -t drive -d /dev/vda -vv

Why the hell does it complain?

NB : apt-get upgrade does upgrade a few packages but that odes not solve my PB.

Bug#460608: Fails to rewrite files in /etc/suck

2008-05-02 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Hi,

Do you still have this bug?
Are /etc and /var on the same partition?

The get-news script uses the move function of the package File::Copy
to move the file, I've just tested with a small script an the move
function works between a nfs share and my computer, the file was
moved, but I also get the EXDEV error.

I'm not sure what's happening here...

That's fixed in testing, along with a dozen other gfortran-transition induced
changes to R packages:

You can safely upgrade to r-base-core et al from unstable. I run testing
myself, but sometimes upgrade selected packages.

Sorry that it is broken in testing, but there is nothing we can do now other
than to wait for unstable's packages to migrate down.

Bug#479056: grub: destroys /boot/grub/device.map

  Starting with version 0.97-33, /usr/sbin/update-grub destroys
  /boot/grub/device.map,

Yes that make it working. Currently virtio is only supported on Linux,
so the device patch is Linux-specific. But that may change in the future

   - grub-probe can't handle the conversion (once device.map is correct).  I
 need more information about this. Try:
   grub-probe -t drive -d /dev/vda -v
 and maybe also:
   grub-probe -t drive -d /dev/vda -vv

Not that much.

 gcc-4.3 forgets some checks in -O2 and -O3, tested on x86_64 and arm
 (cross-compiler) targets.

Can you please report this upstream ? See http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/

 the following is an exemple code with disassembled generated code by
 gcc for 4.2 and 4.3 versions:

It is easier to run gcc with -S (compile but don't assemble) than compile and
then disassemble the binary.

Bug#479039: CVE-2008-1959: Potential security problems

2008-05-02 Thread ARAKI Yasuhiro
Hi Steffen and Nico

Thank you for rapid mail.
Just now I have checked related process codes in sipp svn trunk.
Actually, (roughly counted), I found 6 wrong process lines.

I promise I will check and contact sipp author team.

 Hi

 The following CVE(0) has been issued against sip-tester.

 Please check, if it applies to the debian version.

 CVE-2008-1959:
 Stack-based buffer overflow in the get_remote_video_port_media function
 in call.cpp in SIPp 3.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of
 service and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted SIP message.
 NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

 BTW: the same issue affects get_remote_ip_media() and
 get_remote_ipv6_media(), both unfixed in latest upstream
 release (3.1) and the version in Debian:

 122 uint32_t get_remote_ip_media(char *msg)
 123 {
 124 char pattern[] = c=IN IP4 ;
 125 char *begin, *end;
 126 char ip[32];

 128 if (!begin) {
 129   /* Can't find what we're looking at - return no address */
 130   return INADDR_NONE;
 131 }
 132 begin += sizeof(c=IN IP4 ) - 1;
 133 end = strstr(begin, \r\n);
 134 if (!end)
 135   return INADDR_NONE;
 136 memset(ip, 0, 32);
 137 strncpy(ip, begin, end - begin);
 138 return inet_addr(ip);
 139 }

 145 uint8_t get_remote_ipv6_media(char *msg, struct in6_addr addr)
 146 {
 147 char pattern[] = c=IN IP6 ;
 148 char *begin, *end;
 149 char ip[128];
 150
 151 memset(addr, 0, sizeof(addr));
 152 memset(ip, 0, 128);
 153
 154 begin = strstr(msg, pattern);
 155 if (!begin) {

This is particularly problematic given that python-4suite-rdf

Justification: FTBFS on i386

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on i386.

This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3 is now
the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on i386 yet).
Feel free to downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built
on i386, and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with
gcc 4.2).

   * Build-depend on kdelibs4 4.0.72 or better to avoid the problems of

Bug#479131: util-linux: hwclock always uses UTC regardless of the config in /etc/default/rcS

2008-05-02 Thread 洪任諭
Package: util-linux
Version: 2.13.1-3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

According to the docs of debian, if one wants to store local time instead of
UTC in bios, he/she can set UTC=no in /etc/default/rcS.
However, I found that regardless of the value of $UTC, hwclock always uses
UTC. So under multi-boot environment, the time stored in BIOS is local, and
this behavior make the whole system totally unusable since the time is always
incorrect. Manually set the time via 'date' won't help. After reboot, the
system time is incorrect again. The local time stored in BIOS is always
treated as UTC. This is a serious bug make debian totally unusable under
muti-boot environment. Please get this fixed. Thank you very much.
