I posted requests for sponsorship to -mentors for these 3 packages.
If noone shows interest, maybe Hubert will find the time to review and
upload them.

Bug#490087: Pending gnustep uploads (lynkeos.app, lusernet.app, mpdcon.app)

2008-07-09 Thread Luk Claes
Hi Yavor

When will lynkeos.app, lusernet.app and mpdcon.app be uploaded?
Currently the gnustep transition is only waiting for uploads of the
packages build on the buildds, a few builds on the buildds and the 3
above packages AFAICS.

Cheers

Luk

i'm not sure if this affects sid since the webkit package no longer
indicates the svn version number, but this should be looked at. it looks
like webkit svn 34655 includes fixes for the problem.

thanks for the hard work.

Try issuing the command 'vegastrike explore_universe.mission'. You can
actually replace 'explore_universe.mission' with any mission file in the
directory '/usr/share/games/vegastrike/mission/'.

This is fixed in SVN packaging of 0.5.

Bug#490123: dnsmasq: appears to be vulnerable to cache poisoning attack CVE-2008-1447

2008-07-09 Thread Hamish Moffatt
Package: dnsmasq
Version: 2.42-4
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

dnsmasq appears to be vulnerable to CVE-2008-1447, the DNS cache
poisoning exploit. From my reading of the source code and observation
with tcpdump, dnsmasq doesn't do any source port randomisation.

dnsmasq binds a UDP socket for each of the forwarding name servers when
they are added (on startup, or configuration change), then uses those
sockets forever. The source port doesn't change between queries. tcpdump
confirms this.

thanks
Hamish

Bug#490119: vegastrike: starts with "Error: no rooms found"

2008-07-09 Thread Thomas Knott
Package: vegastrike
Version: 0.5~svn12126-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

NOTE: The following description is copied from
https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=30533
My experience is exactly the same tho the output is different. The error
messages are the same but of course I included the original output my install
gave me. (esp since the mandriva-one is about 0.4.3)

When Vegastrike starts, it opens with a simple graphic of a ship and a message
"error: no rooms found". The usual graphics for the base interiors are missing;
there's just a single screen providing access to Ships, Upgrades, Cargo, etc.
Dynamic aspects like Missions and News are blank. The ship can be launched and
can navigate to other locations, but they are also missing the usual interior
graphics. No other ships are generated for ship-to-ship interaction. You're
bascially alone in the universe.

Hi,

this package is now uninstallable in unstable (and in testing as soon as
xulrunner transitions to testing).

Can you please update that package to work with xulrunner1.9? (If not,
this package might be subject to removal from testing soon.)

Cheers,

Bug#490111: fai-client: fai-do-scripts confused by new file output: PERL

2008-07-09 Thread Andrew Ruthven
Package: fai-client
Version: 3.2.8
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

Almost a repeat of bug report 416616 where the output from file has changed.
But in this case it is for Perl scripts which have -w on the shebang line.

The output used to be:

/tmp/foo.pl: perl script text executable

Now it is:

/tmp/foo.pl: a /usr/bin/perl -w script text executable

So now fai-do-scripts will refuse to run any Perl scripts with -w.

The attached patch to fai-do-scripts resolves this issue.

Cheers!

Package: perlipq
Version: 1.25-1
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: qa-ftbfs-20080506 qa-ftbfs
Justification: FTBFS on i386

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
i386.

This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3
is now the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on
i386 yet). Consequently, many failures are caused by the switch to gcc
4.3.
If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to
downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386,
and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with
gcc 4.2).

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes

My guess is that this is due to the "GNUSTEP_INSTALLATION_DIR = $(HOME)"
line in GNUMakefile.

Which makes me unsure exactly how the package gets properly built at
all...

Hi !

Since the latest upload, shout stoped to send mp3 data correctly with
liquidsoap.

The issue clearly goes away when failling back to 2.2.2-3.

I believe the patch applied for bug #358434 was incorrect and lead to
this grave issue.

I plan to prepare a quick upload if no one's disagree.

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * last maintainer upload was on 2005
 * It has zero reverse dependencies
 * Uses the ancient standards version 3.6.1
 * Trying to NMU is a PITA
 * Debhelper compat 2
 * Abandoned upstream

yes, it has been abbandoned. The project's dead.

Bug#490087: FTBFS: shouldn't try to write in homedir during install

2008-07-09 Thread Luk Claes
Package: mpdcon.app
Version: 1.1.99-3
Severity: serious

Hi

Your package failed to build the latest binNMU on amd64 and s390
buildds, because these buildds don't allow builds to write in the
homedir as can be seen in the following build log extract:

---

This is gnustep-make 2.0.6. Type 'make print-gnustep-make-help' for
help.

make[1]: stat: /home/buildd/.GNUstep.conf: Permission denied
*ERROR*: the software is configured to install itself into /home/buildd
but you do not have permissions to write in that directory:
Aborting installation.

make[1]: *** [internal-check-install-permissions] Error 1

You can find the full build log on buildd.d.o as usual.

4.3.
If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to
downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386,
and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with
gcc 4.2).

The avscan package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/470688 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.

Indeed it should. How embarrassing. I'm clearly too used to shlibdeps ;)

I've just uploaded 1.1-2 that should fix this; It's also at
debian.halfcoded.net if you don't feel like waiting for the mirrors.

Bug#490070: libshout3: fails to send mp3 data

2008-07-09 Thread Romain Beauxis

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Well the problem is if people try to backport the new driver to etch,
then it doesn't work since etch needs the library while lenny and sid
break if you have the library.

If you use the nvidia installer you are on your own. You also cause
package files to be overwritten and will likely have breakage on
upgrades in the future. Have fun.

If you use the debian packages then we can help. We already fixed the
xen problem in the debian packages by patching the driver build system.

For 5.10, I moved the module to the vendor directory which on
reflection was probably a bad idea (debian/rules:233-236). I'd say
that the simplest solution would be to just reverse that decision,
which would allow libcgi-pm-perl to provide a newer version without
the path conflict.

Be careful of packaging anything from the current CVS; the API is in the
process of undergoing major changes (to 4.0.0), and until that work is
finished, I wouldn't recommend releasing anything. Otherwise, you're
going to have major issues with versioning where two libraries that
claim to be libotr 4.0.0 will have incompatible APIs.

etch is not affected by this vulnerability, thus I didn't include it in the
latest DSA upload. The DTSA was prepared, because it was vulnerable in lenny
and the issue was embargoed, thus no fix could be uploaded to unstable yet.
I have now marked it in the tracker accordingly.

Hope this information helps.

Bug#489523: pidgin-otr: key generation uses too much entropy from /dev/random

2008-07-09 Thread Simon Josefsson
I'm not a pidgin-otr user (yet), but some random comments:

What kind of key is generated here? If it is a long-term private key
(RSA etc) then using /dev/random is likely the right thing.

Generally, I agree that it would be useful to speed up the randomness
process.

Btw, consider doing something like:

gcry_control (GCRYCTL_ENABLE_QUICK_RANDOM, 0);

Then it will read from /dev/urandom even for public-key generation. Of
course, you are probably on your own wrt to security of these keys, and
you'll need to look into the libgcrypt code to understand exactly what
this does.

/Simon

Thanks, that's all I wanted to know. I'll reassign this bug to libgcrypt then.

Indeed, but that's still a worthy workaround. I'll get it into the package ASAP.

I know. It's annoying. libgcrypt has no way I can see to specify the
source of randomness for key generation (unlike every other use of
random numbers). It always uses /dev/random.

That being said, I just committed a patch to libotr to allow key
generation to be done in a background thread, but that doesn't really
solve the problem.

Bug#490048: nut-usb: newhidups disconnects now and then from APC UPS (at least immediately after going on battery)

2008-07-09 Thread Daniel Musketa
Package: nut-usb
Version: 2.0.4-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Using "driver = newhidups" with an "APC Smart UPS 750" causes the following
problems (tested on two different machines running Debian Etch:

- The driver doesn't connect to the UPS on system startup, I have to
  wait and restart /etc/init.d/nut manually.

- The connection suddenly gets lost without any event.

- Everytime the UPS goes on battery, the driver disconnects and performs
  a forced shutdown.

(A test installation of nut-usb Version: 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.1 on Ubuntu 8.04
works without problems.)

I use vanilla kernel 2.6.25.9 with my private settings and with
gspcav1-20071224 but gspcav are modules for webcams and I don't see any
influence. On previous kernels with the same configuration I don't have
this problem. Also with my distro kernel 2.6.18-4-686 I have the same
problem.

This is clearly not the machine or kernel tuple which the test is
failing on? :-)

What machine and kernel are you using?

What provides the kernel headers?

Do you have a recipe for building locally?

e.g.
# put unstable sources list in your /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get build-dep glibc
apt-get source glibc
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

Cheers,
Carlos.

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for poppler.

CVE-2008-2950[0]:
| The poppler PDF rendering library suffers a memory management bug which leads
| to arbitrary code execution.
|
| The vulnerability is present in the Page class constructor/destructor. The
| pageWidgets object is not initialized in the Page constructor if specific
| conditions are met, but it is deleted afterwards in the destructor regardless
| of its initialization.
|
| Specific PDF files can be crafted which allocate arbitrary memory to trigger
| the vulnerability.

This is not yet on the mitre site, in the meantime check out:
http://www.ocert.org/advisories/ocert-2008-007.html
The patch is also available on this website.

A new upstream release to fix this is scheduled on July 30th according
to the maintainer. Please don't wait until then to upload a fixed package.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

Bug#489523: pidgin-otr: key generation uses too much entropy from /dev/random

Hi

I'm not sure this is an actual bug in pidgin-otr (nor libotr, for that
matter). AFAICT (but I don't know the code that much), it uses
libgcrypt's keygen procedures... I'm CC'ing OTR upstream to get some
feedback there.

Thanks

Thibaut

There isn't one in progress. Tonight there will be a release of
an update to handle CVE-2008-1693. I guess that will be the next
 one.

Bug#489870: fluxconf: Does not handle current fluxbox configs without breaking fluxbox

While I agree that fluxconf is lacking proper support for fluxbox 1.0.0
in general, I'm not entirely sure it is related to the problem you
describe.

Let me ask you a few questions to try to narrow that one down:
- - Did you perform any change with Fluxconf _before_ using the built-in
configuration menu? Do you click on "Let Fluxbox change the config"?
- - Must Fluxconf be launched while you change the focus model through
  the built-in menu in Fluxbox?

To be honest, I can't reproduce the problem you describe. I'd really
appreciate if you could double check and tell me if the problem remains,
and if it's related to Fluxconf at all.

For the time being, I will lower the severity to 'important'. It doesn't
mean I want to downplay your issue, but grave is clearly not appropriate
for such a tool :)

Thanks for your time, and I hope we can solve your problem eventually.

I see what is happening. There is no security issue there, only
inconvenience. Remove the xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support for a quick work
around.

The problem is that while the application is taken from your $HOME/.mailcap,
the one that is launched is the one you get from the GNOME settings,
which would happen if you didn't have an entry for pdf files in your
$HOME/.mailcap.

Mike
