Package: procinfo
Version: 18-1
Severity: important

When running on a modern server with many interrupts, procinfo
segfaults.

I have one MSI interrupt which is assigned number 1269. This causes
/proc/stat to have a very long 'intr' line since it has to show that
many interrupts. procinfo assumed that no line in /proc/stat would ever
exceed 1024 characters, so when it reads the line it only reads part of
it, and as a result ends up thinking there are only about 500 interrupts
in the system, so later when it tries to print the value for interrupt
1269, it segfaults.

The simplest fix is to increase the size of 'line' on procinfo.c:80 to
something much larger, I tried 102400 instead of 1024 and it works fine,
although perhaps a better algorithm could be determined.

With the current size, it will always segfault on a machine like this
one. This appears to also affect procinfo in Lenny. Of course on most
machines it will work fine since most have a much lower number as their
highest interrupt.

I should have though of this before, but since it is happening
consistently for you again, can you try installing the package
icedove-dbg (and gdb), and runing icedove in the debugger

icedove -g

will bring up gdb, then 'run' to start up icedove

If you can get a backtrace ('bt') when it crashes, that may help some
mozilla-wizard type figure out what is going on.

This (based on /usr/share/doc/context/README.MarkIV) seems to work for

Thanks, I agree with your patch. I have uploaded an intermediate
release meanwhile, but will fix everything in this week.

If I don't hear anything back until thursday I plan to upload the NMU
with the attached patch. It also fixes some issues with respect to the
Build-Depends (no idea how the package actually built last time ...) but
there is more to address, like the Build-Depends on x-dev which was
 droped ages ago.
I have removed it, well changed to its depends. I can't check if it was
built on all archs as I can't connect to buildd.debian.org :-(

Hmm, if that bug affects many other packages it would probably better
to get a fixed nant in lenny instead. Upstream claims that it is fixed
in a newer version, so it would be helpful if someone could try to find
out how big the patch is.

Got in touch with upstream, will keep the bugs posted.

I posted a nmudiff to #483073 and it would be great if someone who is
able to reproduce tests the fix before we do an upload.

In a repeated build run overnight using the nant package in the archive
on amd64, the build failed approximately 1% of the time (7 of 603
builds). I've built a local package using Giridhar's patch and restarted
the test.
