retitle 523028 CVE-2008-5814: XSS vulnerability in PHP = 5.2.7
retitle -1 CVE-2009-0754: mbstring.func_overload setting leakage across vhosts

hi michael,

in the future please file seperate bugs for seperate vulnerabilities.

i would say neither of these are critical vulnerabilities (though
both should be fixed), so i'm adjusting the severities down to important.

with regards to CVE-2008-5814: i believe we've previously tried to get
information from JVS about the specifics and haven't, so there isn't much
we can do and on principle i'm against tagging bogeyman bugs as grave :)

with regards to CVE-2008-5814, the scope is fairly limited and there's no
code execution/data deletion directly through this (it's just leakage of
mbstring function overloading across vhosts)

thanks,
sean

 CVE-2008-5814[0]:
 | Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in PHP, possibly 5.2.7 and

 CVE-2009-0754[1]:
 | PHP 4.4.4, 5.1.6, and other versions, when running on Apache, allows
 | local users to modify behavior of other sites hosted on the same web
 | server by modifying the mbstring.func_overload setting within

 Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Using the load function to read in a data file, it now skips every

You can see the bug with this simple test:

 $ cat  test.dat

It was working fine two weeks ago, perhaps it is some bug in the new
 release candidate?

This bug has been confirmed upstream [1] and it also appears in the final
3.0.4 release. The fix is already integrated in the next release
candidate tarball 3.0.5-rc1 [2]. I have already backported the patch
into the forthcoming 3.0.4-1 release of octave3.0 [3], which will be
uploaded soon to unstable [4].

I am hereby lowering the severity level of this bug report, otherwise
3.0.4~rc7-1 will be prevented from entering testing. We have been
waiting months for this to happen and we have already scheduled the
uploads of all octave-forge pkgs that depend on it [5]. Feel free to
revert the severity level if you really think that the package should not
hit testing with this bug and we will discuss it further.

Yep. unopkg.
Besides that, every extension packages has it referenced in its unopkg call...

. Sorry, I don't know what modifies it and when, but I can deduce that
it's not modified only on my system by googling for the file name:
There are several Ubuntu bug reports against openoffice.org that

Oh, wow, Ubuntu...

happen to mention (as a feature of reportbug) that the file has been
modified. I know I have not modified it by hand.

It's not a file which is supposed to be edited by the user anyway.

Also judging from the path (.../config/...), I presume it's some kind
 of a config file.

Yes, but only for unopkg to work at all.

This causes, for example, debsums and reportbug to complain.

reportbug? Mever seen that to be honest...

I don't think this is serious, since it's not a config which is supposed
to be edited by the user (same like bootstraprc etc. and those simply can't
be moved out of the dir it currently is in - yes, even with symlinks -
because then everything can break in a big boom or subtile.

OK, what would you suggest instead? /etc doesn't work either. Which leaves
us with /var/spool/openoffice, although that does not fix exactly either
(but the uno_packages db/cache is also there, so...)...

Hmm, or, reading th FHS again, maybe /var/lib...

Package: lfm
Version: 0.91.2-1.1

Hi,

The lfm rules file contains the following:
binary-post-install/lfm::
cp ChangeLog debian/lfm/usr/share/doc/lfm/

# Make .py files executable
chmod +x debian/lfm/usr/share/python-support/lfm/lfm/lfm.py
chmod +x debian/lfm/usr/share/python-support/lfm/lfm/pyview.py

With the upcoming version of python-support (currently in experimental),
such statements will make the package FTBFS, since the files are now
moved to a different directory (/usr/share/pyshared).

I suggest that you do such things before the call to dh_pysupport. For
example, doing it in the binary-install target:
chmod +x debian/lfm/usr/lib/python*/site-packages/lfm/lfm.py
chmod +x debian/lfm/usr/lib/python*/site-packages/lfm/pyview.py

As a general rule, please do not rely on the internals of python-support
in the packaging; this will avoid such issues in the future (although
hopefully there won’t be a need to change the paths any further).

Thanks,

Bug#519548: patch to fix mondo

2009-04-08 Thread Rogério Brito
tags 519548 +patch
thanks

Here is a patch to fix mondo so that it stops seeing if cdrecord is
available on systems that have wodim installed.

I just tested it now and it seems to work fine, but I really think that
mondo should have a function to check alternative names for some
utilities (the case of wodim, cdrecord, dvdrecord, whatever) is
potentially just one of these cases.

I may be submitting other patches to the project, if this is desired.

Regards,

Fixed in SVN. I might consider to lowercase any package names when creating the
control file for a Blend which will prevent such bugs for the future.

no change.

restarting dbus makes the nm icon disappear from the panel. killing and
restarting nm-applet after that seems to make it work (well, except it
prompts me for the password which it should already know, so there's

Hi Andreas,

three remarks:

- if you ask others for review, you shouldn't have whitespace changes in the
diff.
- you shouldn't _restart_ the daemon in postrm :-) (and probably not call
dictconfig neither)
- besides that, looks ok.

Restarting dbus will kill gnome-keyring, so this is expected.

As this problem is only of temporary nature (ie can be fixed by a reboot or dbus
restart), I'm downgrading to important.

Bug#522916: must use invoke-rc.d (policy 9.3.3.2)

2009-04-08 Thread Andreas Tille

Yes - sorry. I somehow expected this hint after I sended the mail.

dictconfig neither)

Well, the dictd daemon is *not* part of the dict-wn package. So it might / will
exist after removing dict-wn. The package dict-wn just provides one possible
data file for dict and if it is removed the dictd daemon needs to know this
(via a restart). Do you think it is OK considering this?

BTW, the current invoking of dictd was inspired to work around a problem
(#357020)
which becomes void now because the serpento package is finally removed. So
thanks
for the catch with piuparts.

Kind regards

Andreas.

Hi,

I was looking at return codes for applications making use of
openssl functions and found this in ext/openssl/ossl_ocsp.c:

result = OCSP_basic_verify(bs, x509s, x509st, flg);
sk_X509_pop_free(x509s, X509_free);
if(!result) rb_warn(%s, ERR_error_string(ERR_peek_error(), NULL));

return result ? Qtrue : Qfalse;

OCSP_basic_verify() can return both 0 and -1 in error cases,
so this function can incorrectly return information to the
caller.

I have no idea if what this code is used for and what the consequences
of this might be.

Bug#522370: Updating gconf2 to 2.24 freezes gnome-session startup

Actually, it was not... PEBCAK :/

Gnome-session now starts fine, no issue with usual applications up to
now. Seems you have a win there. Thx.

I have a NVIDIA FX5500. As root, in the last debian kernel (2.6.29) I tried
 to compile the module using
module-assistant and it failed, I guess is the same bug as #520706.

 With 2.6.26 it works well.

See attached log of module-assistant failure.

I just fixed it for 180.29, which Randall will hopefully package soon.
The same fixes should work on any other version as well, so hopefully
soon we will have all versions fixed.

Bug#520003: This package is useless in its current state

This still doesn't work:

libQVTK.so.5.2.1

The second link should be to ../libQVTK.so.5.2.1, otherwise there is no
libQVTK.so in the package which links to a real shared library file.

Note lenny has:

# ls -l /usr/lib/libQVTK.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 2008-11-18 09:10 /usr/lib/libQVTK.so - libQVTK.so.5.0

which works just fine. Please add this or something equivalent to the
unstable version.

The package is still useless in its current state.

Bug#523059: pyqt4-dev-tools: version 4.4.4-5 breaks pyuic4

2009-04-08 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Hi,

thanks for the bug report.
sudo rm /usr/lib/pymodules/python*/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/__init__.py*
should be a workaround for you until there's a fixed version uploaded, which
should be done tonight.
The bug was introduces accidentally while switching to python-support - putting
a plugin directory somewhere within modules was a not so good idea from
upstream, but we'll get that fixed.

Cheers and thanks,

Bernd

P.S.: Next time it would be great if you could attach a .ui file as example -
even if they're in a lot of sources, you still need to find one to debug a bug.

Bug#523151: udev: [s390] Fails to configure additional disk/net devices

2009-04-08 Thread Frans Pop
Package: udev
Version: 0.140-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system
User: debian-s...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: s390

After upgrading udev the system fails to boot correctly as my second
disk (dasdb) and network interface (ctc0) are no longer brought up.

The initrd loads correctly and / is mounted correctly. Other than the
two missing devices the system boots correctly. Because dasdb is not
activated I'm missing my /home (which is on LVM).

I also upgraded the kernel, but as I can bring up both devices manually
without any problems I doubt this is a kernel problem.

As I see there are s390 specific rules files present, I'm not sure what
the problem is here.

I have pushed this to my Launchpad PPA, We are at this time unable to
push Debian sources to PPA'a but i added iceweasel and friends to
depends, i may be pushing a version with 3.5 and 3.6 in depends but i
haven't done that yet. Does Debian have package mozilla-devscripts or is
that just us? You can find binaries and source at the following link:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~gnomefreak/+archive/ppa
the only thing i cna think of that would be an issue is the
mozilla-devscripts depend but that is easy enough to change.

Bug#523161: FTBFS: Remove dependency on iso_639.tab file

2009-04-08 Thread Tobias Quathamer
Package: geneweb
Version: 5.01-8
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

Hi Christian,

I've prepared a patch for you to remove the dependency on the iso_639.tab
file. I've built the package successfully here, the language choices in the
debconf frontend seem to be sane as well. However, I don't use the package
geneweb myself, so it would be great if you could check for yourself if the
patch is really complete.

Regards,
Tobias

Bug#523000: works again after removing mail-notification-evolution

2009-04-08 Thread garkein
After some browsing on bugzilla.gnome.org and a successful try to start
evolution with --disable-eplugin, I figured out that the update of
evolution to 2.24 seems to introduce some incompatiblity with
mail-notification-evolution (5.4.dfsg.1-1+b1).

After removing that package, evolution starts up normally and seems to
be usable again.

The bug severity may be lowered accordingly and/or the bug may be
reassigned to mail-notification-evolution. (?)

Package: pixbros
Version: 0.6.1-2
Severity: serious

The English intro screens for pixbros contain errors in their spelling and
grammar. Unfortunately, I cannot easily correct the errors, because the
sources for those screens (the preferred form of the work for making
modifications to it) have not been included in the Debian source package.

I set the severity to serious, because the lack of source code is contrary
to section 2.2.1 of Debian policy. Also, it probably violates the copyright
licence on pixbros. For reference, the readme.txt file in the source package
states:

software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the
GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation;

Bug#523179: php5: libaprutil1-dev's libdb4.7-dev conflicts with libdb4.6-dev

2009-04-08 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Source: php5
Version: 5.2.9.dfsg.1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package build depends on apache2-prefork-dev, which depends
on libaprutil1-dev which in turn depends on libdb4.7-dev.

You also build depend on libdb4.6-dev

libdb4.7-dev and libdb4.6-dev conflict. You probably need to
change your build dependency to use libdb4.7-dev.

After removing that package, evolution starts up normally and seems to

The bug severity may be lowered accordingly and/or the bug may be

Yes, I guess it needs to be updated (or maybe just rebuilded?) for 2.24.

The problem arises because the date command errors out on dates/times
that are invalid. Eg, DST starts at 03:00 in the Central time zone of
the US:

$ date --date=2009-03-08 02:00:00
date: invalid date `2009-03-08 02:00:00'

This is fine and in and of itself not a problem. However,
/etc/cron.daily/apt has:
stamp=$(date --date=$(date -r $stamp --iso-8601) +%s)
now=$(date --date=$(date --iso-8601) +%s)

'--iso-8601' creates dates of the form -MM-DD. Since this is then
fed into the date command, the hour, minute and second all default to
0. Some timezones start their DST at midnight, with America/Sao_Paulo as
one example. Eg, on a system configured to use the America/Sao_Paulo
timezone:

$ date --date=2009-10-18
date: invalid date `2009-10-18'

This condition causes 'delta=$(($now-$stamp))' in check_stamp() to fail
when $stamp is empty (returning non-zero) or for when $now is empty,
'$delta -ge $interval' evaluates to false because delta is negative
(return non-zero). Either condition results in all or part of the
automatic update process to not be performed.

Affected Users
--
For users in timezones with DST starting at midnight with automatic
updates enabled, this can lead to the following error conditions:

1. /etc/cron.daily/apt is run on the first day of the DST, resulting in
'$delta -ge $interval' being negative because 'now' is empty and the
automatic update is not run. The timestamps are not updated, so the
automatic update will occur normally the following day.

2. /etc/cron.daily/apt is run late in the day on the day prior to DST
(eg 23:59 on 2009-10-17) and finishes on the day of DST (eg one minute
later, at 01:00 on 2009-10-18). This will update the stamp files to have
the date of the DST. At this point, apt cannot recover and automatic
updates are disabled until manually updating/removing the stamp files.

3. A user using a non-affected timezone and has /etc/cron.daily/apt run
normally on the day of the DST. Sometime after that, but before
/etc/cron.daily/apt runs again, the user changes her timezone to an
affected timezone. At this point, apt cannot recover and automatic
updates are disabled until manually updating/removing the stamp files.

While all users in scenario '1' are affected, they will eventually get
their updates. Though the number of users in '2' and especially '3' are
presumed low, the impact for these users is very high, since the
expected, automatic security updates will never be applied.

The Fix
---
The fix is simply to check the return codes of date, and return '0' if
the date for 'now' fails, and remove the bad stamp file and return '0'
if the date for 'stamp' fails. A patch is attached to the Ubuntu bug,
though I have contacted the Debian and Ubuntu maintainer directly and he
is working on an update for the development releases of Debian and
Ubuntu.

Thanks,
Jamie

so you just altered allowed version... did you check if that worked...
ie you could sync bookmarks? I think I have tried pure version mangling

could not sync... so in other words it was useless

Package: hal
Version: 0.5.11-8
Severity: important

Running Sid here, and after a recent update noticed that package
'libvolume-id0' had become obsolete, but APT was not removing it from my
system. Investigating, I found that 'hal' depends on 'libvolume-id0',
which has been replaced by 'libvolume-id1' due to a recent upgrade in
the version of 'udev'.

Just to make sure I wasn't having a problem with my repository mirror, I
checked here:

http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/hal

Sure enough, this appears in the list of packages 'hal' depends on:

libvolume-id0 (= 0.113-1~) [not hurd-i386]
Package not available

Is there a new version of 'hal' on the way, rebuilt against the new
version of 'udev'?

This is probably a missing call to LTDL_SET_PRELOADED_SYMBOLS

Actually, the same source compiled just fine once I autoreconf'd it. Looking
at the libltdl headers, LTDL_SET_PRELOADED_SYMBOLS doesn't define the preloaded
symbol table, just generates a reference to it. So my guess is, the problem
is an old ltmain.sh that doesn't generate that table properly.

(Sorry if you got a bounce message from my previous address, that account was
closed with no advance warning. :( )

Bug#523042: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#523042: octave3.0: loading a datafile skips every second line

I agree that we should limit the spread of 3.0.4 as much as possible.
3.0.5 is now available (there is just one patch applied to 3.0.4 to
fix this bug) so it would seem to me that it is better to generate the
3.0.5 package and upload that instead, and do whatever we can to keep
3.0.4 from being used by anyone.

Thanks,
