Bug#526121: hotssh: versioned build-dependency on scrollkeeper

 Hi,
Hi,

currently hotssh Build-Depends on scrollkeeper (= 0.3.14). However, we
are about to remove scrollkeeper from the archive; hence the serious
 severity.

Please remove the version requirement, or add rarian-compat as an
alternative. Soon, only rarian-compat will remain.
Let me first check if I can use rarian-compat instead of scrollkeepr.

I'll send you a mail when I'm finished checking, ok?

 Thanks,
Regards,
Thomas.

this email made me think hm. so none of us can get it to segfault,

have home directories, and we do...I wonder... and it turns out that
gregoa's patch making the tests get ran with /tmp as $HOME actually

We need your full X log, as usual... Make sure you're using 2.6.29 or
even 2.6.30-rc since recent intel drivers like recent kernels (2.7.99.1
enforces UXA which requires GEM anyway).

Bug#521326: Need help fixing this bug?

2009-04-30 Thread Paul Gevers
Hi,

Due this bug, and the migration of the packages to Ubuntu, I am not able
to build [1] my package WinFF anymore in Ubuntu (Ubuntu already removed
the GTK1.2 libs). Do the maintainers appreciate help with fixing this
issue? I could prepare a debdiff for the 0.9.26.2 version of lazarus, in
agreement with the previous comment.

With kind regards,
Paul

Hi!

On behalf of the QA group, I have been looking at packages which are
blocking the removal of libraries currently in the section oldlibs,
and qiv is one of them, depending on imlib. With the aim
of fixing as many of the depending as possible to pave the way for
gradual removal of imlib, I would request you to consider
moving to imlib2.

Thanks.

Bug#526326: ivy: download from Maven repository fails due to missing metadata files in jar

2009-04-30 Thread Marcus Better
Package: ivy
Version: 2.0.0-2
Severity: serious

A simple resolve of a package from the Maven repo fails with the
following (with full Ant debug logs):

  Couldn't load ResourceStream for
org/apache/ivy/plugins/parser/m2/m2-entities.ent
[ivy:retrieve] io problem while parsing ivy file:
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/net/sourceforge/nekohtml/nekohtml/1.9.12/nekohtml-1.9.12.pom:

Bug#520396: cups: cannot print on ipp printer

2009-04-30 Thread Vladislav Kurz
Package: cups
Version: 1.3.8-1lenny5
Followup-For: Bug #520396

Hello,

I have probably the same problem. Our cups server was recently upgraded
from etch to lenny. It provides access to many networked printers, most
of them are JetDirect (socket 9000) or classic lpd/lpr printers. Only
one of them is accessible via another cups server at remote location. The
remote server is old box with sarge (cups version 1.1.23-10). Since the
upgrade we cannot print on it. This is the relevant part of error_log.
Printer in question is cdma1, A.B.C.4 is client trying to print, A.B.C.2
is the upgraded server.

I was trying to enable sharing of the printer but it didn't work. I
tried it via web interface, or form command line using

/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p cdma1 -o printer-is-shared=true

Even it does not print any error it is stil marked as not published (not
shared). Comparing the logs, it seems that there is no communication
between the two cups servers, at the moment of printing, so access is
denied by the upgraded cups, not the old one with printer phyusically
connected. There seems to be no such option in the configuration of
old cups.

Package: xymon
Version: 4.3.0~beta2.dfsg-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

Function `ldap_init' implicitly converted to pointer at test-ldap.c:25

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain
architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed
(e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug
does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting
in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.

The libldap API has been updated and many functions used by the ldap
plugin are now deprecated. This package should either update to the
new API or define LDAP_DEPRECATED to continue using the deprecated
interfaces.

This patch implements the lazy solution.

I've got a look at the build-deps of hotssh and changed the scrollkeeper

Can you please upload the package?

As stated in bug #154744 Frozen-bubble fails to start since the last system
update.
It shows the following message at start:

Can't load '/usr/lib/perl5/auto/SDL_perl/SDL_perl.so' for module SDL_perl:

And since the response to the stated archived bug is to have libsdl-mixer1.2
and my system meets this requirement
i have no further steps to follow in order to get this issue solved.

heres the libsdl-mixer info:

Bug#523025: fglrx-modules-2.6-686: Same problem here

2009-04-30 Thread Tobias Simon
Package: fglrx-modules-2.6-686
Version: 2:2.6.26-2+lenny1
Severity: normal

I can support the initial bug report. The prepacked fglrx-modules
contain an incompatible kernel module as stated in Xorg.0.log:

(II) LoadModule: fglrx
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so
(II) Module fglrx: vendor=FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc.
compiled for 7.1.0, module version = 8.58.2
Module class: X.Org Video Driver

(II) fglrx(0): Kernel Module Version Information:
(II) fglrx(0): Name: fglrx
(II) fglrx(0): Version: 8.56.4
(II) fglrx(0): Date: Dec 1 2008
(II) fglrx(0): Desc: ATI FireGL DRM kernel module
(WW) fglrx(0): Kernel Module version does *not* match driver.
(EE) fglrx(0): incompatible kernel module detected - HW accelerated
OpenGL will not work

The driver originates from the package fglrx-driver 1:9-2-2, which
recommands fglrx-modules-2.6.26-2-686 2.6.26+8-12-2+lenny1

The symptom on my single head setup is simply 3D acceleration only done
by Mesa GLX Indirect, which ultimatly means, that the package does not
work.

Bug#526379: gnumeric does not allow anymore to copy

2009-04-30 Thread Noel David Torres Taño
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.9.4-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

It is completely impossible to copy, either using Ctrl-C, Edit-Copy or
right-mouse-Copy.

Doing any of these causes this to appear in the stdout/stderr:

** (gnumeric:5985): CRITICAL **: wbcg_edit_finish: assertion `IS_SHEET
(wbcg-editing_sheet)' failed

It is almost impossible to use a spread sheet if you can not copy formulae.

Bug#525002: (no subject)

2009-04-30 Thread Iiro Laiho

Khaznadar, if a package is completely broken in stable (I think it
is), and the new version does not require any new libraries (well, I don't
know), it can be backported to stable.

Squeeze's ktechlab binary appears to depend on newer library versions than
there is in Lenny. Maybe the source package can be built against Lenny's
versions. If everything else fails, you may try static linking.

Bug#526381: [locales] For some reason not configured after upgrade

2009-04-30 Thread David
Package: locales
Version: 2.9-9
Severity: grave

I upgraded locales (and other packages) today. I saw no problem in
principle. Afterwards, I installed some other packages (all the time with
synaptic), and I obtained in the output E locales subprocess script killed
by signal Aborted and, of course, any subsequent installation left the
packages half configured (that is why I think the severity is grave).

dpkg --configure locales did the job OK. And apt-get -f install seemed
to fix things.

Version 0.7.76+20090411cvs-1 introduced a dependency on rtai-dev. However,
rtai-dev is only available on i386 and powerpc. Thus, comedi-source is
uninstallable on all other architectures.

Moreover, I don't see, why rtai-dev should be a dependency, as RTAI support is
an optional feature of Comedi, so a Suggest: would seem a lot more appropriate
to me.

Sorry, but they are clearly not enough details to understand the
problem. We really need the output messages of the installation.

Also the second time, which package was not correctly installed? Again
the locales one?

2009-04-30 Thread David
OK, I will upgrade the system next time via apt (instead of synaptic) so I
can copy and paste the output. But I may not have access to this computer
for several days. Isn't there any other sid user than can reproduce the
problem?

I was also setting an environmental variable in /etc/rc.local,
/etc/environment and /etc/bash.bashrc . It should not influence, because I
reverted the changes before having the problem, the only differences could
be at maximim some extra blank lines in those files. But who knows...

The second package was texlive-lang-spanish, and I had nothing about locales
in the output, just the cryptic message I mentioned before. It may even be
two different bugs in glib, but it would be much coincidence...

If it appears on different packages, I fail to see how it is a bug in
the locales package. I am reassigning it to synaptic, though it may be a
bug in apt or dpkg, or even a problem in your installation (e.g. broken
filesystem).

Bug#526398: /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh: can cause serious data corruption if booting on battery power

2009-04-30 Thread Zygo Blaxell
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.86.ds1-61
Severity: critical
File: /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh
Justification: causes serious data loss

I was rather horrified to watch my laptop boot with a dirty root
filesystem mounted read/write. Upon further investigation, I discovered
that checkroot.sh and checkfs.sh are hardcoded to bypass filesystem
checks if AC power is not present. This makes no sense.

If a journalling filesystem has errors, it should not be mounted
read/write until those errors are corrected. Non-journalling filesystems
always need fsck if they are umounted uncleanly, so they shouldn't be
mounted read/write without checking and possible correction either.
Both cases require fsck before mounting regardless of the power source.

Failing to fsck in either case can cause serious data loss, especially
if the filesystem's metadata falsely indicates occupied space is free
and the system is used for some time. This can lead to duplicate
allocations between filesystem metadata and user data, which leads to
data loss, security problems, unintentional data disclosure, and worse.
Recovery from errors of this kind is nearly impossible without a good set
of backups handy. Serious problems can remain undetected for sufficently
long periods of time that backups get corrupted as well.

The problem is even worse for laptops that are only rebooted due to
crashes, and only crash in the field while running on battery power.
Such machines may never run fsck until the corruption is sufficiently
bad that the machine is unusable.

I would propose that the battery power status should only be tested
in checkroot.sh and checkfs.sh if a configuration setting explicitly
permits it. For example, a variable FSCKONBATTERY might be added to
/etc/default/rcS with these options:

yes - check filesystems regardless of battery status (ignore
on_ac_power entirely). This should be the default.

no - don't check filesystems when on_ac_power returns false.
This is the current behavior.

The system should not corrupt data by default, which is why the default
I propose above is different from the current behavior.

Installed systems which are upgrading from legacy versions of initscripts
might preserve the old behavior in accordance with the principle of least
surprise, but all new systems should be installed with the default set
as above.

I would argue that unexpected data corruption is a much bigger surprise
than fscks on battery, but other bugs filed against this package suggest
people actually prefer the broken behavior, and these people would
probably complain if we fixed it for them.

I compiled the usbip modules in the current vanilla linux kernel, under the
staging drivers tree, and loaded it.
i then installed the debian package for usbip but, when launching both the
daemon and the client i get an error being not able to open a socket and not
finding the usb.ids file.
By looking at the sources i found that it needed a usb.ids file shipped in the
svn repository and added it in /usr/share/hwdata (a directory i had to create)
and then the package worked.

Hi

I recently upgrade to 2.6.29, I was moving over 2T of files over nfs/udp, I use
cpufreq and I found when the system became under load I would get these kernel
bugs

Package: ivy

A simple resolve of a package from the Maven repo fails with the
following (with full Ant debug logs):

  Couldn't load ResourceStream for
org/apache/ivy/plugins/parser/m2/m2-entities.ent

Sure enough, m2-entities.ent is missing from ivy.jar.

Looking closer, the following files are in the upstream ivy.jar but
are missing from the Debian version:

Bug#526409: evolution: permissions on mailbox folders are set wrong

2009-04-30 Thread Tim Connors
Package: evolution
Version: 2.24.5-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

-rw-r--r-- 1 maree maree 118474734 2009-05-01 08:16
/home/maree/.evolution/mail/local/Sent

Hmmm. Would it be a good idea to set ~/.evolution to 700 perhaps? Or
just adopt a restrictive umask for the whole of evolution (mail being
a rather more sensitive application than most)?

Many site policies are for home directories to be world or group
readable, and trusting users not to be stupid with their permissions.
Unfortunately this breaks down when the applications themselves are
stupid.

This affects upstream as well, as verified by several installations of
deadrat and the like installed over many years at work.

It it the first time I install eclipse (never used it before, really).

Please try openjdk instead of gcj, gcj has never been really reliable
for eclipse afaict.
The only reason it was pursued was because it has the right license.
Now with openjdk, gcj should probably be deprecated (at least for eclipse).

Also, make sure you have installed xulrunner-dev or the equivalent.
If that doesn't work either, then the problem is that unstable has a too new
version of xulrunner for eclipse.

Mozilla people tend to change the interfaces at will which tends to break
eclipse a lot. The most current breakage (also reported as a Fedora bug)
is iirc still being discussed in upstream eclipse's bugzilla.

Bug#526422: linking of the dynamic libraries

2009-04-30 Thread Thomas Viehmann
Severity: serious
Package: libsuitesparse-3.2.0
Version: 1:3.2.0-4

Hi,

thanks for providing packages of suitsparse. It might be nice to link
dynamic libraries to those providing the needed symbols:
Not only will it avoid warnings like

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: symbol amd_realloc used by
debian/libsuitesparse-3.2.0/usr/lib/libklu.so.3.2.0 found in none of the
libraries.

at the end of the build, but also (after installing python-sparse)

python -c import pysparse.umfpack

might benefit.

Kind regards

T.
