Hi, Due this bug, and the migration of the packages to Ubuntu, I am not able to build [1] my package WinFF anymore in Ubuntu (Ubuntu already removed the GTK1.2 libs). Bug#520396: cups: cannot print on ipp printer
Package: cups Version: 1.3.8-1lenny5 Followup-For: Bug #520396 Hello, I have probably the same problem. Our cups server was recently upgraded from etch to lenny. It provides access to many networked printers, most of them are JetDirect (socket 9000) or classic lpd/lpr printers. Only one of them is accessible via another cups server at remote location. The remote server is old box with sarge (cups version 1.1.23-10). Since the upgrade we cannot print on it. This is the relevant part of error_log. Function `ldap_init' implicitly converted to pointer at test-ldap.c:25 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. The libldap API has been updated and many functions used by the ldap plugin are now deprecated. This package should either update to the new API or define LDAP_DEPRECATED to continue using the deprecated interfaces. This patch implements the lazy solution. Soon, only rarian-compat will remain. Let me first check if I can use rarian-compat instead of scrollkeepr. I'll send you a mail when I'm finished checking, ok? Thanks. If there’s anything still missing in rarian-compat so that it can completely emulate scrollkeeper, I’ll be glad to add it. I've got a look at the build-deps of hotssh and changed the scrollkeeper to rarian-compat. It builds without errors and seems to work as normal as before. It's lintian clean, too ;) I've put the relevant files to: http://www-pool.math.tu-berlin.de/~thomasbl/hotssh/ Can you please upload the package? thanks, Thomas. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

OK, I will upgrade the system next time via apt (instead of synaptic) so I can copy and paste the output. But I may not have access to this computer for several days. Isn't there any other sid user than can reproduce the problem? I was also setting an environmental variable in /etc/rc.local, /etc/environment and /etc/bash.bashrc . It should not influence, because I reverted the changes before having the problem, the only differences could be at maximim some extra blank lines in those files. But who knows... The second package was texlive-lang-spanish, and I had nothing about locales in the output, just the cryptic message I mentioned before. Bug#526398: /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh: can cause serious data corruption if booting on battery power
Package: initscripts Version: 2.86.ds1-61 Severity: critical File: /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh Justification: causes serious data loss I was rather horrified to watch my laptop boot with a dirty root filesystem mounted read/write. Upon further investigation, I discovered that checkroot.sh and checkfs.sh are hardcoded to bypass filesystem checks if AC power is not present. This makes no sense. If a journalling filesystem has errors, it should not be mounted read/write until those errors are corrected. Non-journalling filesystems always need fsck if they are umounted uncleanly, so they shouldn't be mounted read/write without checking and possible correction either. Both cases require fsck before mounting regardless of the power source. Failing to fsck in either case can cause serious data loss, especially if the filesystem's metadata falsely indicates occupied space is free and the system is used for some time. This can lead to duplicate allocations between filesystem metadata and user data, which leads to data loss, security problems, unintentional data disclosure, and worse. Recovery from errors of this kind is nearly impossible without a good set of backups handy. Serious problems can remain undetected for sufficently long periods of time that backups get corrupted as well. The problem is even worse for laptops that are only rebooted due to crashes, and only crash in the field while running on battery power. Such machines may never run fsck until the corruption is sufficiently bad that the machine is unusable. I would propose that the battery power status should only be tested in checkroot.sh and checkfs.sh if a configuration setting explicitly permits it. For example, a variable FSCKONBATTERY might be added to /etc/default/rcS with these options: yes - check filesystems regardless of battery status (ignore on_ac_power entirely). This should be the default. no - don't check filesystems when on_ac_power returns false. This is the current behavior. The system should not corrupt data by default, which is why the default I propose above is different from the current behavior. Installed systems which are upgrading from legacy versions of initscripts might preserve the old behavior in accordance with the principle of least surprise, but all new systems should be installed with the default set as above. I would argue that unexpected data corruption is a much bigger surprise than fscks on battery, but other bugs filed against this package suggest people actually prefer the broken behavior, and these people would probably complain if we fixed it for them. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable'), (189, 'testing'), (179, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.28.4-zb64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages initscripts depends on: ii debianutils 2.30Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii e2fsprogs1.41.3-1ext2/ext3/ext4 file system utiliti ii libc62.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-20 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii mount2.13.1.1-1 Tools for mounting and manipulatin ii sysvinit-utils 2.86.ds1-61 System-V-like utilities Versions of packages initscripts recommends: ii psmisc22.6-1 Utilities that use the proc filesy initscripts suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#526409: evolution: permissions on mailbox folders are set wrong
Package: evolution Version: 2.24.5-3 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole tconn...@denman:~$ l /home/maree/.evolution/mail/local/Sent -rw-r--r-- 1 maree maree 118474734 2009-05-01 08:16 /home/maree/.evolution/mail/local/Sent Hmmm. Would it be a good idea to set ~/.evolution to 700 perhaps? Or just adopt a restrictive umask for the whole of evolution (mail being a rather more sensitive application than most)? Many site policies are for home directories to be world or group readable, and trusting users not to be stupid with their permissions. Unfortunately this breaks down when the applications themselves are stupid. This affects upstream as well, as verified by several installations of deadrat and the like installed over many years at work. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (710, 'testing'), (700, 'stable'), (600, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages evolution depends on: ii dbus 1.2.12-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii debconf [debconf 1.5.26 Debian configuration management sy ii evolution-common 2.24.5-3architecture independent files for ii evolution-data-s 2.24.5-4+b1 evolution database backend server ii gconf2 2.24.0-7GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-icon-theme 2.24.0-4GNOME Desktop icon theme ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.24.0-2The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbluetooth23.36-1 Library to use the BlueZ Linux Blu ii libbonobo2-0 2.24.1-1Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.24.1-1The Bonobo UI library ii libc62.9-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo21.8.6-2+b1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcamel1.2-14 2.24.5-4+b1 The Evolution MIME message handlin ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.80-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libebackend1.2-0 2.24.5-4+b1 Utility library for evolution data ii libebook1.2-92.24.5-4+b1 Client library for evolution addre ii libecal1.2-7 2.24.5-4+b1 Client library for evolution calen ii libedataserver1. 2.24.5-4+b1 Utility library for evolution data ii libedataserverui 2.24.5-4+b1 GUI utility library for evolution ii libegroupwise1.2 2.24.5-4+b1 Client library for accessing group ii libenchant1c2a 1.4.2-3.3 a wrapper library for various spel ii libexchange-stor 2.24.5-4+b1 Client library for accessing Excha ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.9-4 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgconf2-4 2.24.0-7GNOME configuration database syste ii libgdata-google1 2.24.5-4+b1 Client library for accessing Googl ii libgdata1.2-12.24.5-4+b1 Client library for accessing Googl ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.3-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.0-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-pilot2 2.0.15-2.4 Support libraries for gnome-pilot ii libgnome2-0 2.24.1-2The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2- 2.20.1.1-1 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-0 2.24.1-1The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.24.1-1 GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.14.7-5The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkhtml-edito 3.24.5-2HTML rendering/editing library - e ii libgtkhtml3.14-1 3.24.5-2HTML rendering/editing library - r ii libhal1 0.5.11-8Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libice6 2:1.0.5-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libldap-2.4-22.4.15-1OpenLDAP libraries ii libnm-glib0 0.7.0.100-1 network management framework (GLib ii libnotify1 [libn 0.4.5-1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libnspr4-0d 4.7.1-4 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii libnss3-1d 3.12.2.with.ckbi.1.73-1 Network Security Service libraries ii liborbit21:2.14.17-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-01.24.0-3Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpisock9 0.12.3-10 library for communicating

Please try openjdk instead of gcj, gcj has never been really reliable for eclipse afaict. The only reason it was pursued was because it has the right license. Now with openjdk, gcj should probably be deprecated (at least for eclipse). Also, make sure you have installed xulrunner-dev or the equivalent. If that doesn't work either, then the problem is that unstable has a too new version of xulrunner for eclipse. Mozilla people tend to change the interfaces at will which tends to break eclipse a lot. The most current breakage (also reported as a Fedora bug) is iirc still being discussed in upstream eclipse's bugzilla. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#526422: linking of the dynamic libraries
Severity: serious Package: libsuitesparse-3.2.0 Version: 1:3.2.0-4 Hi, thanks for providing packages of suitsparse. It might be nice to link dynamic libraries to those providing the needed symbols: Not only will it avoid warnings like dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: symbol amd_realloc used by debian/libsuitesparse-3.2.0/usr/lib/libklu.so.3.2.0 found in none of the libraries. at the end of the build, but also (after installing python-sparse) python -c import pysparse.umfpack might benefit. Bug#525071: 2.2.4-1+b1 automatically rebuilt against libcrypto++8 segfaults on start
I’m CC'ing debian-user in case there are people with i386/unstable/amule who can confirm or deny the segfault. Please CC 525...@bugs.debian.org if you do so. Also, do you get any kind of backtrace, or can obtain one? I can confirm this one, it crashes with a SIGSEGV. Happens with the daemon as well as the UI.
