Bug#570776: squeeze: NFS exports dont work
[Petter Reinholdtsen] I believe this preseeding setting in debian-edu-install/base-config/defaults.networked will solve the issue: # Make sure portmap do not only accept connections from localhost # Needed for Squeeze portmap/portmap/loopback boolean false I've tested this preseeding, and it do not seem to work (even when fixing the typo (portmap/portmap/loopback - portmap portmap/loopback) in it). I suspect this is a problem in the portmap package, but have not investigated why the preseeding fail. With the preseeding in place, the content of /etc/default/portmap still make portmap fail to listen on all interfaces. Bug#571116: debsums: overwrites /etc/apt.conf.d/90debsums without asking
Package: debsums Version: 2.0.48 Severity: serious Policy 10.7.3 says Configuration file handling must conform to the following behavior: * local changes must be preserved during a package upgrade, and but debsums (re)creates or deletes /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/90debsums every time it is installed, reinstalled or upgraded without asking the user. It should: - only ever overwrite the file if it is unchanged (or if it asked to do so) - check if the files exists in the config script and store the current state in debconf before asking, otherwise it will revert a user deleting the file without asking with the next upgrade. Bug#571091: jadetex: fmtutil-sys failed, can't find file `pdftexconfig'

It fails to execute init after loading the initramfs. The current oldstable version (2.6.18.dfsg.1-24) boots fine. And the current oldstable D-I (which has 2.6.18.dfsg.1-18) also boots fine. Attached a diff between the boot messages. This diff is for an installed system, but I get the exact same Failed to execute /init error when booting D-I which suggests that the problem is not in the initrd but in the kernel. GiveHelp is called with command=\t, so SplitBuf(command, cav) at helpserv.c:365 returns 0, and the next line calls strlcpy() with src == NULL. I fixed this by replacing while (*buf == ' ') with while (IsSpace(*buf)) in mystring.c:145. This way the first parsing in ms_process() returns 1, and m_help() calls GiveHelp with command == NULL, avoiding the crash. All of mystring.c, memoserv.c and helpserv.c seem to be unchanged between 1.9.2 and 1.9.4 so I'm pretty sure it's not fixed in any upstream release. The diff for the lines bringing up CPUs is mostly due to two messages getting mixed up. Bug#571033: logrotate: Logrotate mis-parses config if log dir does not exist, and rotates wrong files
Hi Paul, On Tuesday 23 February 2010, Paul Martin wrote: Could you try the following patch? it fixes the problem with this particular config but I don't really like it. It does not change the fact that the config parsing is extremely fragile. If a postrotate script contains an unbalanced number of braces, the problem may reappear. I guess this could happen due to a typo. Possible improvements would be - do the globbing after the whole config has been parsed - if the globbing fails, still run the normal parsing but ignore the result for this config block somehow; for example just remember the globbing error and call removeLogInfo() when the next block is found - require that braces in the postrotate script are escaped in some way (ugly) - if parsing of a file fails, go to the next file immediately (ugly in a different way) - if parsing fails, still try to parse the postrotate/endscript pairs when skipping to the next config Of course, your patch is much better than no patch and makes it much less likely to trigger the problem. But if someone happens to hit the problem anyway, he will have a hard time at finding the reason. In any case, thanks for the very quick response. (If a future issue is found in Expat, which allows code injection we would need to issue a separate DSA for Ghostscript) To achieve this, SHARE_EXPAT needs to be set in base/expat.mak: # Users of this makefile must define the following: # SHARE_EXPAT - 1 to link a system (shared) library # 0 to compile in the referenced source, # EXPAT_CFLAGS - Compiler flags for building the source, # EXPATSRCDIR - the expat source top-level directory, # EXPATGENDIR - directory for intermediate generated files, # EXPATOBJDIR - directory for object files. Thanks for the investigation! I noticed you omitted that change in your recent ghostscript. Is there are technical problem? If so, I can provide patches to fix these issues in the local Expat copy. Bug#568940: azureus: Does not start, complains about missing swt libs
On Fri, 12 Feb 2010 22:40:33 +0100, Stephan Windmüller wrote: Somehow the symbolic link /usr/share/java/swt.jar - swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar has vanished or was not created in the first place. What looks bit suspicious is the combination: -rw-r--r-- root/root 1544134 2010-02-23 21:44 ./usr/lib/java/swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2010-02-23 21:45 ./usr/share/java/swt.jar - swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2010-02-23 21:45 ./usr/share/java/swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar - ../../lib/java/swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar Maybe there's a race condition when the two symlinks are unpacked? What I don't understand is why the .jar is in /usr/lib/java/ and not in /usr/share/java in the first place. It's put there explicitly by debian/libswt-gtk-3.5-java.install. Installing it to /usr/share/java and adjusting debian/libswt-gtk-3.5-java.links would save one symlink and maybe also fix the bug? CVE-2008-1396[0]: | Plone CMS 3.x uses invariant data (a client username and a server | secret) when calculating an HMAC-SHA1 value for an authentication | cookie, which makes it easier for remote attackers to gain permanent | access to an account by sniffing the network. CVE-2008-1395[1]: | Plone CMS does not record users' authentication states, and implements | the logout feature solely on the client side, which makes it easier | for context-dependent attackers to reuse a logged-out session. CVE-2008-1394[2]: | Plone CMS before 3 places a base64 encoded form of the username and | password in the __ac cookie for all user accounts, which makes it | easier for remote attackers to obtain access by sniffing the network. CVE-2008-1393[3]: | Plone CMS 3.0.5, and probably other 3.x versions, places a base64 | encoded form of the username and password in the __ac cookie for the | admin account, which makes it easier for remote attackers to obtain | administrative privileges by sniffing the network. If you fix the vulnerabilities please also make sure to include the CVE ids in your changelog entry. Can you please check if those affect Debian? I did not find any statement regarding a fixed version by the upstream, did not see any patches, no installation to try it out and the advisory doesn't reference any code. I have determined that this package embeds a vulnerable copy of xmlparse.c and xmltok_impl.c. However, since this is a mass bug filing (due to so many packages embedding expat), I have not had time to determine whether the vulnerable code is actually present in any of the binary packages derived from this source package. Please determine whether this is the case. If the binary packages are not affected, please feel free to close the bug with a message containing the details of what you did to check. CVE-2009-3560[0]: | The big2_toUtf8 function in lib/xmltok.c in libexpat in Expat 2.0.1, | as used in the XML-Twig module for Perl, allows context-dependent | attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via an XML | document with malformed UTF-8 sequences that trigger a buffer | over-read, related to the doProlog function in lib/xmlparse.c, a | different vulnerability than CVE-2009-2625 and CVE-2009-3720. CVE-2009-3720[1]: | The updatePosition function in lib/xmltok_impl.c in libexpat in Expat | 2.0.1, as used in Python, PyXML, w3c-libwww, and other software, | allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service | (application crash) via an XML document with crafted UTF-8 sequences | that trigger a buffer over-read, a different vulnerability than | CVE-2009-2625. These issues also affect old versions of expat, so this package in etch and lenny is very likely affected. This is a low-severity security issue, so DSAs will not be issued to correct these problems. However, you can optionally submit a proposed-update to the release team for inclusion in the next stable point releases. If you plan to do this, please open new bugs and include the security tag so we are aware that you are working on that. For further information see [0],[1],[2],[3]. In particular, [2] and [3] are links to the patches for CVE-2009-3560 and CVE-2009-3720 respectively. Note that the ideal solution would be to make use of the system expat so only one package will need to be updated for future security issues. Preferably in your update to unstable, alter your package to make use of the system expat. If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the CVE id in your changelog entry.
