Bug#567214: backuppc: Changing archive directory not working correctly

2010-03-02 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

I fear the answer from Adam hasn't reached you, so here is an
additional ping:

* FDi f...@r00t3d.com [2010-01-28 01:26:13 CET]:
 Heres what I did:

 apt-get install backuppc
 sudo /etc/init.d/backuppc stop

 mkdir /media/raid/backup
 sudo chown backuppc:backuppc /media/raid/backup

 sudo cp -dpR /var/lib/backuppc/. /media/raid/backup
 sudo rm -rf /var/lib/backuppc
 sudo ln -s /media/raid/backup /var/lib/backup

 sudo /etc/init.d/backuppc start

... Daemon starts without any errors, however now when I try to access the
 WebUI
in 127.0.0.1/backuppc/ it gives me a message saying Error: Unable to
 connect to BackupPC server

 The response from Adam:

* Adam Goryachev mailingli...@websitemanagers.com.au [2010-02-03 14:44:33
CET]:
It looks like everything you did was correct, up to the last step
(hopefully you have worked this out by now, or it was a copy and paste
 error to the bug report).

 sudo cp -dpR /var/lib/backuppc/. /media/raid/backup
 sudo rm -rf /var/lib/backuppc
 sudo ln -s /media/raid/backup /var/lib/backup

That last one should have been:
 sudo ln -s /media/raid/backup /var/lib/backuppc

FDi, does this solve your problem? I guess the bugreport can get closed
then as a non-bug?

Thanks for any response in advance,
Rhonda

Bug#572118: [kwalletcli] Nothing happens when running

2010-03-02 Thread Thorsten Glaser
severity 572118 normal
thanks

Resul Cetin dixit:

Personally i doubt that gpg-agent really starts pinentry-kwallet.

Does it now start it or not?

I think the problem is that it doesn't support `GETINFO pid` correctly. When I
remove that from gpg-agent I get the password window and the rest works as
expected.

So please implement GETINFO correctly for = gnupg2_2.0.9. I move that up to
serious because this makes it complete unusable for everyone using it with
gpg-agent.

Interesting. As I only have gnupg2-2.0.7 at work, I didn’t know about
this. I shall look into that and RTFM of the newer version.

However, this is a feature enhancement, and as such wishlist, because
kwalletcli itself is not impacted, only one of the “tools” that come
with it. Although I agree it’s more important than wishlist, so I’m
ok with severity normal. I’ll have to do this upstream though, not in
Debian, so raising the priority would not help.

bye,

FWIW, I'm quite impressed with mksh interactively. I thought it was much
*much* more bare bones. But it turns out it beats the living hell out of

wasted half my life on my zsh setup. :-) -- Frank Terbeck in #!/bin/mksh

Bug#571458: libeb13 4.4.2-1 changes ABI?

2010-03-02 Thread Motoyuki Kasahara
Hello,

Motoyuki, does the eb 4.4.2 package really break the binary compatibility?
If so, the SONAME version should be bumped up.

I found ABI incompatibility between EB Library 4.4.1 and 4.4.2.

As you guess, EB Library 4.4.2 sets a wrong shared library version.
15:0:2 is specified in configure.ac, but the correct version is
15:0:0. Thank you for the bug report.

I'll release EB Library 4.4.3 to fix the bug.
(Its shared library version should be 16:0:0.)

Bug#572021: openmpi-checkpoint: orte-checkpoint is not installed by package, ompi-checkpoint is a link to it

2010-03-02 Thread Alan Woodland
2010/3/1 Fernando Tarlá Cardoso Lemos fernando...@gmail.com:
 Package: openmpi-checkpoint
 Version: 1.4.1-1
 Severity: grave
 Justification: renders package unusable

 /usr/bin/ompi-checkpoint is a symlink to orte-checkpoint, but orte-checkpoint
 isn't installed by this package.

Does indeeed seem to be missing:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/openmpi-checkpoint/filelist

 Likewise, ompi-restart is a symlink to orte-restart, but orte-restart isn't
 installed by this package either.

Those two binaries are essential to OpenMPI checkpointing and their absence
 renders the package unusable.

My suggested fix is to add /usr/bin/orte-checkpoint and /usr/bin/orte-restart
to the list of files that are installed by this package.

Any ideas where these got to? They were definitely included in the
first version of openmpi-checkpoint that was uploaded...

Bug#572201: linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64: forcedeth driver hangs under heavy load

2010-03-02 Thread stephen mulcahy

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-5
Severity: grave

When running linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64, the network stops
responding if large amounts of traffic are transmitted/received. Running
ifdown eth0 followed by ifup eth0 restores operation of the network.
There are no errors relating to this failure logged in /var/log that I
could see.

Downgrading to linux-image-2.6.30-2-amd64 results in a stable network.
Not sure if this is a forcedeth specific problem or a general problem in
the newer kernel (I have seen problems with forcedeth on other
distro/kernel combinations).

Happy to run further diagnostics to tie this down if you let me know
what to run.

Bug#572048: I can confirm failure to start

2010-03-02 Thread Pier Luigi Pau
Hello,

I couldn't get tomcat6 6.0.24-2 to start, either, and so far I haven't
found anything better to do than revert to a previous version
(6.0.20-dfsg1-1). This is on amd64, for the record.

Purging the packages and reinstalling 6.0.24-2 didn't help; nor did
switching between openjdk-6 and sun-java6.

I had lines similar to these in my /var/log/tomcat6/catalina.(date).log:

An interesting behaviour I noticed: running /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start
manually gave me an indication of failure; instead, if I rebooted my
box altogether, it apparently worked, and I had a file with a process
id at /var/run/tomcat6.pid, but by the time I could get into a shell,
the process had somehow disappeared (died?). /etc/init.d/tomcat6 stop
would answer that tomcat6 wasn't running, /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start
would complain that there was a pid file and therefore nothing had to
be done.

Regards,
Pier Luigi Pau

Any ideas where these got to? They were definitely included in the
first version of openmpi-checkpoint that was uploaded...

They should be, and I'm pretty sure I checked since I modified the
installation scripts since there were changes to them in the 1.4 series.
I had a discussion with upstream about that. I'll look into it ASAP.

Bug#572169: /usr/bin/apt-get: apt-get breaks on openoffice.org-core upgrade

2010-03-02 Thread David Kalnischkies
Hi Anne Henmi,

2010/3/2 Anne Henmi bengaltigerstri...@gmail.com:
 Package: apt
 Version: 0.7.25.3
 Severity: critical
 File: /usr/bin/apt-get
 Justification: breaks the whole system
Let me note that apt hasn't break your system.
Your system is in a broken state BEFORE you call apt,
so you have either manually fiddled with dpkg or
a previous package installation failed because of
a broken maintainerscript / forbidden fileoverride or whatever.
(That is a critical bug in the failing package!)

APT by design never leaves you in a broken system state:
Calculation correct paths from one good state to another
is complicated enough, but paths from a bad into a good
state are sometimes more complicated or even impossible…
(or in this case to figure out the correct installation order as
strategies which can be applied on good states doesn't always
work in bad states and vise versa)

 E: Couldn't configure pre-depend openoffice.org-core for
 openoffice.org-evolution, probably a dependency cycle.
I suspect that a strategy to avoid Conflicts/Breaks doesn't
work correctly if your system is already broken…
(together with a pre-depends of course, to add more fun).

Could you run the following please?
apt-get install -f -o Debug::pkgOrderList=1 -o Debug::pkgPackageManager=1

It could be also interesting to see what dpkg thinks about the situation
dpkg --audit

These two together should tell us in a bit more detail what is wrong.

Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

David Kalnischkies

Thank you for reporting this. You are absolutely right that the

I have already corrected this bug in the upcoming version of lshell.

A temporary fix would be to add $ in the forbidden list:

I am working on getting the new version out very soon.

Is it because of Xorg version?

Bug#572230: RM: msntp -- ROM; non-free

2010-03-02 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: serious

Dear archive team,

thanks to the vigilance of Jakub Drnec, it was realised that the msntp package
is not DFSG-free as it restricts commercial use.

http://lists.debian.org/msgid-search/23369.984.2152-14696-719125683-1267528...@email.cz

msntp has only ~20 popcon votes, its upstream homepage is not available anymore,
its package maintainer recommends to drop it and no package depends on it.

Have a nice day,

Bug#572246: iptotal: package presumes that apache2 is installed

2010-03-02 Thread Ernesto Domato
Package: iptotal
Version: 0.3.3-11
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The package depends on apache2 or httpd. I tried to install it on a machine
that has lighttpd package that fulfills the httpd requirement but the iptotal
package tries to reload apache2 without checking if it is installed or not,
leaving the package on a broken state that can't be uninstalled.

Thanks.
Ernesto.

Thanks a lot. Fixed in Git. Will be fixed with next upload tonight or

I made a patch so that the sources use simplejson, and changed the added
dependency to python-simplejson.

This was the situation before my patch:

$ rgrep -in json desktopcouch/ | grep import
desktopcouch/records/server_base.py:33:import json
desktopcouch/replication_services/ubuntuone.py:4:import simplejson
$

After the patch:

$ rgrep -in json desktopcouch/ | grep import

desktopcouch/replication_services/ubuntuone.py:4:import simplejson
$

Bug#572252: `strcasestr' implicitly converted to pointer

2010-03-02 Thread dann frazier
Source: mksh
Version: 39.3-1
Severity: serious
Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

Function `strcasestr' implicitly converted to pointer at ] conftest.c:8

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain
architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed
(e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug
does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting
in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.

Which (pseudo?) package would I assign false positives such as
this to? Since I couldn't find one, closing.

Please do whitelist conftest*.c in your scanning thing.
This is like GNU autotools' configure except config.log
is put on stdio instead of a separate file.

Just a heads up, gdesklets will not run with python2.6 See:

The attached patch, resolves this issue. It has been applied in Ubuntu
and accepted upstream. It seems that Gentoo and Fedora have applied it

Bug#565706: grub2 enters rescue mode with fd0 cannot get C/H/S values

2010-03-02 Thread Tom Wright
I've found a workaround for this one by changing a BIOS setting - it doesn't
fix the underlying issue though.

The BIOS setting was Legacy USB which was set to Auto and I have now set to
Disabled. This means that the BIOS doesn't start the USB devices, so GRUB
can't see them and doesn't get confused. The USB devices are still visible to
the kernel though, so everything works fine.

If you want me to try out any other patches, I'm happy to revert the changes
to the BIOS and try one out, but I just thought I'd post this workaround for
anyone else who's stuck on it.

Can you try the attached patch?

My system has three RAID1 md partitions across sda and sdb, containing
swap, / and /boot and it has another disk (sdc). With these plugged in,
it all works fine, but once I plug a USB drive in as well, the system
won't start. I can get it to start by removing the USB drive and
resetting it (ctrl-alt-del or power-cycle). This is not ideal though, as
it's a hidden-away server which always has a USB disk plugged into it for
backup purposes, so I cannot reboot it remotely because it won't start up
  again.

Bug#572265: horde3: Upgrade to php 5.3 results in fatal error

Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrading to PHP 5.3.1-5 (testing) Horde stops working and displays
the following errors when navigating to the main page:

It looks like PHP 5.3 deprecates some functionality and is very vocal about
it causing a redirects not to work.

Not that the problem is not limited to Horde but also effects any application
using Pear Log.

The attached patch fixes this bug. However, there are more things in the
package that needs attention:

- *.pyc and *.pyo files are shipped in the binary package;
- the binary packages uses obsolete (pre-0.90) python-support directory
layout.

  Scenario CORBA_MIOP.: FAILED
The Operation not permitted error indicates a firewall rule which is
blocking the multicast traffic to the mcast group used in this test
  scenario (239.239.239.18).

I can reproduce the test failure by inserting the following rule on my
  system:

  ~$ sudo iptables -I OUTPUT --dst 239.239.239.18 -j DROP

What is the firewall policy for build hosts? As it seems firewall rules
are not identical since this test passes on other build hosts without
  problems.

Is there a multicast group we could use which is allowed on all build
hosts for test purposes? The other solution would be to disable the
  CORBA_MIOP test ...

Note: This test *does not* need network/internet access.

Those rebuild tests are not executed on the official buildd network. And
you might very well have found a misconfiguration in my setup.

The problem is that the CORBA/MIOP test also fails on some official
 build hosts [1].

Do you think that it would be enough to allow outgoing multicast with:
  iptables -A OUTPUT -p udp --dst 224.0.0.0/4 -j ACCEPT
  ?

This depends on your current rule set. If outgoing multicast traffic is
dropped, this rule would most probably fix our test case. Can you easily
run a polyorb build with this rule active?

Is there a policy which defines the network setup and firewall rules for
an official build host? If every host is different, we better disable
the MIOP test because testing multicast functionality cannot work reliably.

 [1] - http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=568814

I don't think that there's any policy about that. A build that fail when
internet access is not available is usually a serious issue, because it might
make it impossible to rebuild the package from source in the future.

However, I don't know of any restrictions about the loopback network,
or sending broadcast or multicast packets.

Are you sure that the sparc build fails because of that? If that's the
case, yes, it's probably a good idea to just drop that test.

In other news, the package built fine on a similar system, but without
any firewall configuration.

Bug#560837: IPv6... be flexible about user configuration

2010-03-02 Thread Frank Lin PIAT
Hello dear developers,

I was testing lighttpd and got hit by this bug. I read the thread and I
think that you are all right:

1. People upgrading existing systems expect smooth upgrade.
2. Fresh installed system are IPv6 enabled.
3. Disabling IPv6 on a new system should be possible and easy.

Regarding the point #1, Debian provides appropriate infrastructures
(NEWS.Debian and/or debconf), to warn system admins that a substantial
changed occurred, and they should review/prevent/accept that change.

My 2¢,

Franklin

Package: sudo
Version: 1.6.9p17-2
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

My understanding is that permission to sudoedit is granted by a line in
the sudoer file like this:

 user1 ALL = sudoedit /etc/network/interfaces

This works as expected (because the string sudoedit is a special case), eg

 us...@host1:~$ sudoedit /etc/network/interfaces

However, it also appears to grant access to sudo any executable called
'sudoedit' (if the appropriate parameters are passed in). For example, a
user executable in the home directory called sudoedit:

 #!/bin/sh
 whoami

can be invoked (and reports 'root') using

 us...@host1:~$ sudo ./sudoedit /etc/network/interfaces

I had expected (because sudoedit is a special case string) that it should
not match anything apart from invoking /usr/bin/sudoedit.

This problem was encountered with build 1.6.9p17 of sudo on a Debian Lenny
system. The issue was pointed out by 'slouching' on linuxquestions.org.
He also reported that this problem did not occur on an earlier version
sudo-1.6.8p12-12.el5.

python-gdata 2.0.7-1 depends on python2.4, python (= 2.5), at least on

/etc/alternatives/swt.jar with aptitude -t stable install
tuxguitar but not with apt-get install libswt3.4-gtk-java

Enough for today.

- the imagemagick source package build-depends on libltdl-dev

- all binaries built by imagemagick depends (either directly or
transitvely on libltdl7, see shell log [1]) -- tested on amd64

- the build log of latest imagemagick on amd64 says:

checking for ltdl.h... yes
checking whether lt_dlinterface_register is declared... yes
checking for lt_dladvise_preload in -lltdl... yes
checking where to find libltdl headers...
checking where to find libltdl library... -lltdl

it also says, at link time

LIBS= -lMagickCore -llcms -ltiff -lfreetype -ljpeg -llqr-1
-lglib-2.0 -lfontconfig -lXext -lSM -lICE -lX11 -lXt -lbz2 -lz -lm -lgomp
-lpthread -lltdl

  without any specific CFLAGS/LDFLAGS.

From all the above, I'm inclined to conclude that imagemagick uses
system-wide ltdl and hence is unaffected by this bug. Confirmation
and/or comments would be very welcome.

Cheers.

Hi,

The following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for libtool. I have determined that this package embeds a
vulnerable copy of the libtool source code. However, since this is a
mass bug filing (due to so many packages embedding libtool), I have not
had time to determine whether the vulnerable code is actually present
in any of the binary packages. Please determine whether this is the
case. If the binary packages are not affected, please feel free to close
the bug with a message containing the details of what you did to check.

CVE-2009-3736[0]:
| ltdl.c in libltdl in GNU Libtool 1.5.x, and 2.2.6 before 2.2.6b,
| attempts to open a .la file in the current working directory, which
| allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse file.

Note that this problem also affects etch and lenny, so if your package
is affected, please coordinate with the security team to release the
DSA for the affected packages.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

the process had somehow disappeared (died?). /etc/init.d/tomcat6 stop
would answer that tomcat6 wasn't running, /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start
would complain that there was a pid file and therefore nothing had to
 be done.

Bug#571511: scanerrlog: FTBFS with Python 2.6 as default

2010-03-02 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Hi,

The attached patch fixes this bug with --prefix=/usr. It also increases the
minimum python-support dependency to 0.90, for full Python 2.6
compatibility, and build-depends on python, not python-dev.
