Since it built everywhere else, isn't that hppa-specific?

Package: mdadm
Version: 3.1.1-1
Severity: serious

When I use the mdadm 3.1.1-1 udeb to install root on RAID1 the machine
doesn't boot - it waits for root because RAID is never started.

I tracked this down to empty values in /conf/conf.d/md:

| MD_HOMEHOST='NAS8C4EB8'
| MD_DEVPAIRS='/dev/md/0:'
| MD_LEVELS=''
| MD_DEVS=all
| MD_MODULES=''

MD_MODULES is empty, so no modules are loaded and /proc/mdstat doesn't
exist and so the script stops.

The reason why these values are empty is that the initramfs hook looks
for levels=XXX in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf, but my config file doesn't
contain anything about levels. Maybe the format has changed with
metadata=1.1?

My /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf looks like this:

| DEVICE partitions
| HOMEHOST system
| ARRAY /dev/md/0 metadata=1.1 UUID=f8d6999e:0d277d4a:ed6ff136:2bd5f46a
name=NAS8C4EB8:0

This has been addressed in partman-md which now uses /dev/md/X instead
of /dev/mdX for newer versions of madm.

I'm leaving this bug open in case something still needs to be done on
the mdadm side.

OK, it hasn't been applied and I think I know why. You should have applied the
debdiff with -p0, and not with -p1. Look at debian/patches/series to know it, if
that file is empty you did it wrong. Apply it again with -p0, that file should
contain 01_fix_invalid_free.patch. Then build it again and see if the crash
persists.

Bug#592957: Cannot add panflute-applet to panel

2010-08-14 Thread Peter Denison
Package: panflute-applet
Version: 0.6.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When trying to add panflute-applet to panel, it unconditionally crashes. The
symptoms are not the same as #592014.

When /usr/lib/gnome-applets/panflute-applet is run from the command-line, the
only output (after a long - 60s - wait) is:

$ /usr/lib/gnome-applets/panflute-applet
DEBUG [panflute] Registering with Bonobo
$

There is no output in ~/.local/share/panflute (all three of
applet.{log,stderr,stdout} are zero-length)

The saved bug-report from the applet-launcher crash is:

Package: libcarp-clan-perl
Version: 6.02-1
Severity: serious
Tags: upstream fixed-upstream
Justification: Policy 2.3

Upstream Carp-Clan 6.02 has no licenses. Its META.yml file contains:

license: ~

and the README file doesn't say anything about the license either.
I doubt that the fact the author distributed the Artistic.txt and
GNU_GPL.txt files is sufficient from a legal point of view (note that
for some software, such license files apply only to some part of the
software). Without a license for the whole module distribution, one
can look at what individual files say.

lib/Carp/Clan.pm says:

## This module is free software and can
## be used, modified and redistributed
## under the same terms as Perl itself.

but lib/Carp/Clan.pod says nothing about the license, making at least
the documentation non-free.

There are also possible licensing issues with the test files, which
are silent too.

Anyway this licensing problem is fixed in upstream Carp-Clan 6.04:

Version 6.04 24.10.2009
+ Solved RT ticket #50796 (inform type of license)
+ Made the test suite compatible with Perl versions v5.6.0

Version 6.03 18.10.2009
+ Re-release to resolve confusion in CPAN caused by intermediate release
of Carp::Clan 5.4 (backport of bugfix #50560 below for Perls v5.6.0)

Bug#590961: libao4 bug #590961 will probably prevent audio disc creation in default installation

2010-08-14 Thread John Ferlito
Howdy,

I'm not keen to set dependencies since the whole point of this library
is that you don't need all of the sound libraries and instead it
abstracts them all.

I am going to add the quiet option to libao.conf. This makes it never
print to stderr which is the sensible thing or a library to do.

Cheers,
John

Package: libao4
Version: 1.0.0-4
Severity: serious
Justification: Breaks other software

Hi,

since version 2.30 brasero[1] (a graphical burning program) explicitly
checks the versions of the third-party tools it is using[2]; among these
is cdrdao[3] (Disk-At-Once recorder). Normally this looks like this:

 $ cdrdao version | sed 's/^/STDIN:/g'
 Cdrdao version 1.2.3 - (C) Andreas Mueller andr...@daneb.de

(As you can see everything goes to stderr)

Now if libaudio2[4] is not installed it looks like this:

 $ cdrdao version | sed 's/^/STDIN:/g'
ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libnas.so = dlopen() failed
 Cdrdao version 1.2.3 - (C) Andreas Mueller andr...@daneb.de

This is because /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libnas.so links against
libaudio.so.2 which is provided by libaudio2. As a consequence brasero
can't parse the cdrdao version string anymore (see [5]) and thus fails
to recognize it correctly which results in audio disc creation being
disabled.

Now most users won't see this error because some other package pulled in
libaudio2, but if not, unrelated things like brasero will break.

This problem is not limited to libaudio2 but also affects the other
suggestions. If I install cdrdao in a fresh chroot set up by debootstrap
I get this:

 $ cdrdao version | sed 's/^/STDIN:/g'
ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libalsa.so = dlopen()
failed
ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libnas.so = dlopen() failed
ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libpulse.so = dlopen()
failed
ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libesd.so = dlopen() failed
 Cdrdao version 1.2.3 - (C) Andreas Mueller andr...@daneb.de

Note that not only software packaged in Debian might parse such version
strings but also local programs, scripts, etc. We should therefore
prevent this error messages from screwing up things by preventing them
from being printed at all. And that can only happen by changing libao4's
suggestions[6] to depencies.

Best Regards

Alexander Kurtz

Package: openerp-server
Version: 5.0.12-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrading from 5.0.11 (stable) to 5.0.12-1 including upgrade of all other
packages (except those held back by host provider / confixx default) I
cannot use the openerp-server anymore. I tried for hours to find a solutions or
hints in the net and openerp-forums but no success. I can start the server from
the commandline as user openerp
but when I try to connect to a database (not mattering which, but they run on
another backup system without
problem on 5.0.12 (without -1) and lenny sid) I get an error no module named
module. I checked the paths in the config files and they're still the same as
I continued to use the old ones.

I have upgraded all modules before upgrading - without complaints.

this is the complete error message (doesn't matter which client I use - same
result):

Bug#592978: [kcemu]: FTBFS on kfreebsd and hurd-i386 ports

2010-08-14 Thread Adrian Glaubitz
Package: kcemu
Version: 0.5.1+dfsg-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: FTBFS on kfreebsd-i386, kfreebsd-amd64 and hurd-i386

Hi,

kcemu has a FTBFS bug on the architectures kfreebsd-i386, kfreebsd-amd64
and hurd-i386 which is caused by a bug in the configure.in script
of kcemu [1]. This bug will be fixed upstream in version 0.5.2, however,
due to the freeze of Debian Squeeze, the upstream version 0.5.2 won't
find it's way into Debian Squeeze. I am therefore cherry-picking
the patch to fix the FTBFS on the aforementioned architectures,
the patch has been tested on both kfreebsd-i386 and hurd-i386,
it should work on kfreebsd-amd64 as well.

The patch is courtesy Michael Karcher deb...@mkarcher.dialup.fu-berlin.de,
thanks a lot!

I am uploading a fixed version of the package to Debian Mentors
today and hope it will find its way into Debian Squeeze soon. Since
kfreebsd-amd64 and -i386 (unlike hurd-i386) have become officially
supported ports for Squeeze, I'm marking this bug as serious.

Thanks,

Adrian

Thanks for your work.

The BUG related on armel was already correct solved [1].

The version 3.1.3-1 also closes others BUGS. I asked in mentors-list
for help in an upload [2]. Can you sponsor this package?

Package: trac-git
Version: 0.0.20080710-3
Severity: grave
Tags: patch security
Justification: user security hole

The trac-git package in Debian Lenny - if enabled in Trac - allows a
remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the system with the
rights of the user running Trac. The attacker must have the rights to
browse the repository in order to exploit this issue, other parts of
Trac are most likely not affected.

The attached patch fixes the problem, it is not thoroughly tested,
though, but seems to work fine on my test system with a few Git
repositories.

Package: emacs23

On ia64, emacs23 keeps failing with a weird error message:

,
| Compiling
/build/buildd-emacs23_23.2+1-2-ia64-bO1bIr/emacs23-23.2+1/debian/build-x/lisp/progmodes/cc-styles.el

| In toplevel form:
| progmodes/cc-fonts.el:76:27:Error: Symbol's function definition is void: t
`

I suspect that the 76 refers to the line number in cc-fonts.el, which
reads

(cc-require-when-compile 'cc-langs)

and the 27 to the line number in cc-langs.elc (cc-langs.el has only
comments there, and it has already been byte-compiled). It would be
interesting to know what cc-langs.elc looks like.

For the record, starting with 23.1+1-6 all versions of emacs23 did FTFBS
on ia64 with similar errors.

emacs23-x freezes with a white/grey window if I start it on some
kfreebsd box. The bug is visible locally as well remotely with ssh -Y
some-kfreebsd-box emacs23-x. If I start it remotely via ssh tunnel it
looks like this:

http://www.phys.ethz.ch/~abe/Debian-Bugs/emacs23-x-kfreebsd.png

Locally it looks nearly the same except that above the white part, the
first four items of the menu bar become visible already.

In comparison, emacs22-gtk on kfreebsd and emacs23-x on amd64 work fine,
also remotely via ssh tunnel. emacs23-x -nw works fine on kfreebsd,
too, I'm writing this bug report that way.

The bug happens on both kfreebsd-variants, kfreebsd-i386 and
kfreebsd-amd64 and I can reproduce it on both porter machines remotely
with:

ssh -Y io.debian.net emacs23-x
ssh -Y asdfasdf.debian.net emacs23-x

Any hints on how I can gather more information about this issue?

I'm not sure if this is not a regression and it worked before with
emacs23. Will also check if emacs23-lucid has the same problem. If I
find an emacs23 variant with works, I'll add this information to this
bug report.

Emacs fails to start in Debian. Being a major tool in my toolchain, it's a
rather major issue for me. It seems to be looping on this:

 17556 emacs23-x RET poll 1
 17556 emacs23-x CALL read(0x3,0x86d76a8,0x1000)

   0x 2b00 0100

 17556 emacs23-x RET writev 4

(this is the result of a kdump.)

Of course, emacs works fine with the linux kernel (I am running in dual boot).

I tried clearing my .emacs and running it with HOME=/tmp/anarcat (with my
.Xauthority file copied to make sure it actually starts with X).

Running in a xterm (with -nw) actually works fine.

I'm available for thorough debugging.

Package: debian-installer

Severity: grave

The installers are currently broken due to bug 583551, which prevents
mkfs.ext3 et al. from working. New images are needed, per tytso in
this message:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=583551#117

Please ensure that the following executables, all of which use libblkid,
run correctly:

/bin/parted_devices
/bin/parted_server
/bin/partmap
/sbin/blkid
/sbin/e2fsck
/sbin/fsck.ext2
/sbin/fsck.ext3
/sbin/fsck.ext4
/sbin/mke2fs
/sbin/mkfs.ext2
/sbin/mkfs.ext3
/sbin/mkfs.ext4
/sbin/tune2fs
/usr/sbin/fdisk

(The non-functional parted_devices causes the installer to fail to
detect any disks on the system. I can't say if that is a distinct
bug, however.)

---End Message---
---BeginMessage---
A new set of squeeze debian-installer images has appeared in the
repositories (dated July 6 for i386, July 10 for amd64), and with these,
the entire installation process functions flawlessly.

Bug #587570, I believe, can be closed. (I can't speak for bug #588183.)

Closing.

Package: live-build
Version: 2.0~a22-1
Severity: grave

A package upgrade from 2.0~a21-1 to 2.0~a22-1 fails with:

Preparing to replace live-build 2.0~a21-1 (using
.../live-build_2.0~a22-1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement live-build ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/live-build_2.0~a22-1_all.deb
(--unpack):
unable to install new version of
`/usr/share/live-helper/data/debian-cd/squeeze/mipsel_netinst_udeb_include': No
such file or directory

The reason for the failure is apparently the 'squeeze' symlink in ~a21 is
replaced with a directory in ~a22, which policy prohibits in 6.6.4:

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase

A directory will never be replaced by a symbolic link to a directory or
vice versa; instead, the existing state (symlink or not) will be left alone
and dpkg will follow the symlink if there is one.

As a workaround, remove the old package and install the new.

We should check in preinst if the symlink exists and points where it is supposed
to, then remove it before unpacking. Also, preinst should handle putting the
symlink back if called with abort-install.

Package: live-build
Version: 2.0~a22-1
Severity: grave

A package upgrade from 2.0~a21-1 to 2.0~a22-1 fails with:

Preparing to replace live-build 2.0~a21-1 (using
.../live-build_2.0~a22-1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement live-build ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/live-build_2.0~a22-1_all.deb
(--unpack):
unable to install new version of
`/usr/share/live-helper/data/debian-cd/squeeze/mipsel_netinst_udeb_include': No
such file or directory

The reason for the failure is apparently the 'squeeze' symlink in ~a21 is
replaced with a directory in ~a22, which policy prohibits in 6.6.4:

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase

A directory will never be replaced by a symbolic link to a directory or
vice versa; instead, the existing state (symlink or not) will be left alone
and dpkg will follow the symlink if there is one.

As a workaround, remove the old package and install the new.

We should check in preinst if the symlink exists and points where it is supposed
to, then remove it before unpacking. Also, preinst should handle putting the
symlink back if called with abort-install.

Ben

Bug#592588: [scorched3d] Crash and reset of X graphics interfaces on ACER Traelmate 6292

2010-08-14 Thread Bruno Kleinert
Am Donnerstag, den 12.08.2010, 11:12 +0200 schrieb Marco Righi:
 Hi,
in order to give you a complete answer I moved the files /var/log/Xorg*
into another directory and I launched scorched3d. Scorched3d exactly
 crashes after these steps:

 - execution of the command scorched3d OK
 - after the pression of paly button starts the client and the games
crashes. I have tried with 800x600, 1024x768 and full screen resolution,
each time the server has been crashed.

The chipset should be an intel 810.
You don't want play on that old GPU - but you're lucky, your Xorg.log
says you've got a more modern 965 mobile GPU :)

Please tell me if I can help you.
I've got a 945 GPU in my notebook and scorched3d triggers some bugs in
the Intel mesa driver for my GPU but I found a workaround. On my
notebooks it helps to disable all the water graphics effects, so I'd
like you to try this, too.

Run scorched3d, go to Settings and to the Speed tab. In the box
Graphics Detail check these checkboxes:
  * Don't draw water reflections
  * Don't draw water movement
  * Don't draw water
  * Don't draw water breakers
  * Draw simplistic water
  * Simple water shaders
  * No water reflections for objects
  * No water reflections for particles

Please let me know if that helps!

If it doesn't help, please try to go on by disabling more and more
effects. Maybe there's something in the Troubleshooting tab, that
could help at least.

Ok, I'm quite sure it's a bug in the Intel related code within the mesa
package. Since there's a more recent mesa release packaged in
experimental, you might also want to try at least installing
libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx and libglu1-mesa from experimental and
try again. But please try out the above suggestions first before
installing stuff from experimental!

I seems as if gnus-sum.elc had only been half written while gnus-vm was

 atomically.

I reported this upstream as well, but I would not expect a quick fix.
In the meantime, parallel building could be disabled for reliable,
albeit slow, build.

Actually fixed the issue. So it was a matter of changing the
configuration file as mentioned. Perhaps this can be closed then as a
 user configuration issue.

 As mentioned fixing /etc/X11/fluxbox/keys doesn't fix ~/.fluxbox/keys,
but a key learning for users might be to always compare configuration
files against global ones when upgrades happen.

 Thanks for quick response...

I see something updated my ~/.fluxbox/keys automatically, and it added

OnTitlebar Move1 :StartMoving
OnLeftGrip Move1 :StartResizing bottomleft
OnRightGrip Move1 :StartResizing bottomright
OnWindowBorder Move1 :StartMoving

However, to mimic the old behavior, it also needs to add

OnTitlebar Mouse1 :Raise

This happens because in 1.1.1 release, this was default behavior.
Upstream decided to change this for the next release. To keep behavior
standard, I patched the default config file to enable left click
  dragging.

This does not carry over into the ~/.fluxbox/keys file, even though
this option is in /etc/X11/fluxbox. One fix is to remove the .fluxbox
  directory and restart fluxbox.

This is not acceptable for people who have very complex setups, but
then again, if they have complex setups, they should be able to set
  this manually.

Bug#591975: [MTOS-dev] Licence/source code for .swf files shipping with MTOS

2010-08-14 Thread Jun Kaneko
Dominic,

Sorry to get back to you late.
I am wishing to replace these flash files
by more generic solution such as JavaScript and/or HTML5
at some future MT5 milestone.
But I believe that we are looking for the immediate solution for MT4.3x.

It is difficult to simply remove these files
since it is tighten to the core functionality.
I know one MT4 plugin which will disable the Blog Stats function.
( originally it was developed for the performance reason )
I am not sure whether the plugin will also allow us
to remove the flash files.
It can be a solution, but then we have to create
some kind of a dedicated package for the distribution.

In any ways, we need more time and
probably need a future release to replace the functionality itself.

Jun Kaneko

Unfortunately, this licence has been deemed non-DFSG-free:

 http://wiki.debian.org/DFSGLicenses#CreativeCommonsAttributionLicense.28CC-by.29.2Cv1.0

so I don't think we can leave things as they are in Debian main, even
if we could get the correct version of the source code.

I'm not sure what the best way to move forward on this, to avoid
having to remove MT from Debian main.

Does anyone have a feel for how easy it would be to remove the
flash without affecting the rest of the functionality of the
application? To be honest I don't have much time or energy to devote
to this so if there is consensus in Debian that the current situation
can't stand, removal, or at least moving to non-free is inevitable.

 Dominic.

I've prepared an NMU for ziproxy (versioned as 3.1.1-1.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/2. Please feel free to tell me if I should
 delay it longer.

 Thanks for your work.

The BUG related on armel was already correct solved [1].

Uh... Please show some reaction on the bug next time (and sync your Git
repository). Your dsc looks ok for me but please replace Really closes
.* BUG with appropriate closes statement, even if they are already closed.
Once that fixed, ping me and I'll sponsor this upload.

The amd64 build failed due to a race condition in parallel building:

I seems as if gnus-sum.elc had only been half written while gnus-vm was
byte-compiled. This is due to write-region not updating files
atomically.
