Bug#595365: fai-server: make-fai-nfsroot checks for possible-non-existing /usr/share/live-initramfs
I'm suggesting to check for /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/live instead as this should be independent from the package name but check for the feature set. I'll come up with a patch and plan to provide the fix as 3.4.2 release after 3.4.1 has been migrated to testing. This bug actually prevents 3.4.1 from migrating to testing, so I think it's best that you fix this now rather than waiting for migration... Bug#596100: When told not to initially configure slapd, (un-)installation fails due to init script return code.
Steve Langasek vor...@debian.org writes: On Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 09:13:29PM +0100, Matthew King wrote: Steve Langasek vor...@debian.org writes: 1) Creating /etc/ldap/noslapd as part of the postinst which the administrator can remove when slapd is configured. I don't consider this appropriate. If you ask not to automatically configure slapd, then the package is not usable until manual action is taken and we should not mark the package as installed. I don't recall coming across that before. Other packages which give the option not to have debconf do configuration don't break dpkg when they do it, eg. postfix. I'm not sure how that works - maybe it just doesn't try to start the daemon in the postinst. In my case, slapd is (will be) installed with chef - the recipe must set the no_configuration flag and then configure chef after the package is installed, however if dpkg fails, the recipe will also fail and will never proceed to the configuration stage. Catch 22. I'm not familiar with chef, but I can see several different ways to address this: - The postinst could not attempt to start a daemon which is installed but not configured. I checked postfix and that's exactly what it does: (at the end of postinst) if [ $mailer != No configuration ] || [ -f /etc/postfix/main.cf ]; then ... # start postfix ... fi I don't agree with the initial problem that a package is not installed until after it's configured _even though_ the administrator has chosen explicitly not to configure it at that time. I can see the point of not creating the sentinel file, but in that case not even running the init script would seem the best answer. Unfortunately I can't see any way to do that and still use debhelper. Moreover, it doesn't just affect chef, it affects apt and by extension potentially everything. Any other packages which are being installed at the same time may also be left in a half-configured state when slapd fails to start and brings down apt-get. Bug#595539: [pkg-kolab] Bug#595539: kolabd: kolab_bootstrap no longer works with slapd (version 2.4.23)
On Sun, Sep 5, 2010 at 12:34 AM, Soren Stoutner so...@sbtechsolutions.biz wrote: ... This morning slapd 2.4.23 was accepted into testing. This package no longer uses the /etc/ldap/slapd.conf file. Instead, it used the /etc/ldap/slapd.d directory for configuration. This renders kolab_bootstrab unusable. Oh sad! I didn't have time to test this. But the failure was predictable. Thanks for reporting. Also, this bug is already reported upstream and currently dormant (https://issues.kolab.org/issue3000) There is a separate issue where the config file conversion that ships with slapd doesn't correctly convert from slapd.conf to slapd.d, leaving Kolab completely locked out of LDAP. I am filing a bug against slapd to cover that issue. For reference, this is http://bugs.debian.org/595540. So what's next? I will try to convert the slapd.conf template to slapd.d snippets and upload a fixed version. I still don't know if this is doable in a reasonable time (before squeeze!). In the long term this move will ease maintenance of kolabd. Cheers Mathieu Parent -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? It looks like the test broke with libanyevent-perl_5.251-1. I don't have the time to investigate more right now. FWIW, the current libanyevent-perl version does pass its own test suite on albeniz, so it doesn't seem to be totally broken. Finally got round to this. The problem is this change in AnyEvent 5.25: - do not load Fcntl at runtime, saving memory and loading time. - precompile a number of constants and use them instead of runtime detection and eval. This doesn't work for an Architecture:all package: in this case, libcoro-perl broke because Fcntl::O_NONBLOCK is 2048 on amd64 (where the package was probably built) and 4 on (at least) alpha and sparc. Building against a modified libanyevent-perl_5.271-1 with a fixed O_NONBLOCK value makes the test pass for me on both smetana (sparc) and albeniz (alpha). I think libanyevent-perl should be turned into an Architecture:any package and at least AnyEvent/constants.pl needs to go in /usr/lib/perl5. BTW, I think the current debian/rules backend selection is potentially buggy as it's looking for substrings in the arch list, meaning mips matches mipsel and i386 matches kfreebsd-i386. The backend selection doesn't seem to make a difference though; I tried all the sensible configuration options on albeniz with no luck. IMHO the backend selection in libcoro-perl should be cleaned away for squeeze (assuming the above fix works for all architectures.) -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. OoO En cette matinée ensoleillée du jeudi 09 septembre 2010, vers 09:37, Lionel Elie Mamane lio...@mamane.lu disait : You have a system with mixed stable/testing/unstable. Since you took python2.6 from squeeze, please also use python-nevow from squeeze. This should work. The package relationship (Depends, Conflicts, Breaks, ...) fields are supposed to express these relationships. (Debian Policy chapter 7) Mixing distributions is on your own responsability. We cannot express relationship that were not needed on the time of the release. Take any Python package, take python-central/python-support from stable, python2.6 from unstable along with python-defaults from unstable and you have something that does not work at all because the paths have changed and a newer python-central/python-support is needed here. That's why python2.6-minimal has Breaks: python-central ( 0.6.14) That's how one can and does express relationship that were not needed on the time of the release. Those relationships were added to allow upgrading from lenny to squeeze, not to allow to run the other mentioned programs in lenny with a python From squeeze. There is no problem with python-nevow since it uses python-central and therefore, python-central will be upgraded before python2.6 is installed and will not fail anymore if it is not able to build the package (if it tries to build it before it is upgraded). See bug #590138. This bug report can be seen as pretty similar with yours. If you are not satisfied with the solution, I can merge your bug to this one. There are no other way to fix this bug since it is already fixed in the version in squeeze and does not exist in stable. -- I WILL NOT FAKE MY WAY THROUGH LIFE I WILL NOT FAKE MY WAY THROUGH LIFE I WILL NOT FAKE MY WAY THROUGH LIFE -+- Bart Simpson on chalkboard in episode 7F03 pgpVjUXUcar6K.pgp Description: PGP signature

If a local attacker placed a maliciously crafted shared library in a directory and an administrator were tricked into launching CouchDB from this directory, arbitrary code execution could be achieved. Bug#578458: still fails to build
On Thu, 09 Sep 2010 21:47:40 +0300, Niko Tyni wrote: On Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 10:47:25AM +0300, Niko Tyni wrote: It looks like the test broke with libanyevent-perl_5.251-1. This doesn't work for an Architecture:all package: in this case, Wow! I'm totally impressed and grateful that you tracked this down! libcoro-perl broke because Fcntl::O_NONBLOCK is 2048 on amd64 (where the package was probably built) and 4 on (at least) alpha and sparc. (It was i386 for libanyevent-perl 5.271-1.) Building against a modified libanyevent-perl_5.271-1 with a fixed O_NONBLOCK value makes the test pass for me on both smetana (sparc) and albeniz (alpha). I think libanyevent-perl should be turned into an Architecture:any package and at least AnyEvent/constants.pl needs to go in /usr/lib/perl5. I've uploaded libanyevent-perl 5.271-2 right now with these changes. If it works out we need to ask for a freeze exception. (Cc'ing the release team as a heads up.) BTW, I think the current debian/rules backend selection is potentially buggy as it's looking for substrings in the arch list, meaning mips matches mipsel and i386 matches kfreebsd-i386. Oops. IMHO the backend selection in libcoro-perl should be cleaned away for squeeze (assuming the above fix works for all architectures.) Agreed, that was just an ugly, desparate (and also obviously wrong) attempt to find out what's going wrong or beat at it ... I guess if the plan works out (i.e. libcoro-perl builds with the newer libanyevent-perl), a freeze exception (removing the newly added cruft from debian/rules) would be nice. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 591408: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=591408 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems ---BeginMessage--- Package: python2.6 Version: 2.6.5+20100630-2 Severity: serious The python2.6 package passes the configure argument --with-system-ffi to try to force the build to ignore its builtin _ctypes module and instead link to the installed libffi on the system. Unfortunately due to some deficiencies in the python2.6 configure scripts it fails to detect libffi (even though it would work perfectly if compiled), and therefore builds its own embedded copy anyways. This violates Debian Policy section 4.13 (Convenience copies of code): http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#s-embeddedfiles The exact failure is caused by the location of the libffi header files: /usr/include/$(gcc -dumpmachine)/ffi.h /usr/include/$(gcc -dumpmachine)/ffitarget.h These paths follow the MultiArch specification [0] and are automatically searched by GCC, so a simple #include ffi.h works automatically. Unfortunately the python2.6 package seems to search by hand for ffi.h in /usr/include and /usr/local/include, and when it does not find it in either of those locations it assumes it is not present. This also causes problems for new Debian ports which have successfully patched libffi to work under their architecture, as Python will ignore the functional system libffi and also quietly fail to build the _ctypes module, resulting in a partially-dysfunctional Python installation. Additional testing reveals that python2.5 also has this problem, although it appears to be fixed in python3.1. Bug#576896: libglpk-java does not build on kfreebsd
Hello Kumar, all aborts irrespective of architecture occur inside function glpk_intopt() of the GLPK library. The same routine will be called when executing glpsol -m glpk-java-1.0.13/examples/java/marbles.mod This will help to clarify if the observed problem is in libglpk-java. GLPK makes use of long jumps. See the thread starting at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/help-glpk/2008-08/msg00071.html It would be helpful to run the following program /** * Determination of the alignment of jmp_buf */ #include stdio.h #include setjmp.h #include stddef.h /** * Determine the alignment of jmp_buf * @return alignment in bytes */ int jmp_buf_alignment() { #ifdef __GNUC__ static int res = __alignof__ (jmp_buf); #else struct t { char a; jmp_buf b; }; static int res = offsetof(struct t, b); #endif return res; } int main() { printf(jmp_buf is %d byte aligned\n, jmp_buf_alignment()); return 0; } Best regards Xypron -- GMX DSL SOMMER-SPECIAL: Surf Phone Flat 16.000 für nur 19,99 Euro/mtl.!* http://portal.gmx.net/de/go/dsl -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. This package no longer uses the /etc/ldap/slapd.conf file. Instead, it used the /etc/ldap/slapd.d directory for configuration. This renders kolab_bootstrab unusable. There is a separate issue where the config file conversion that ships with slapd doesn't correctly convert from slapd.conf to slapd.d, leaving Kolab completely locked out of LDAP. I am filing a bug against slapd to cover that issue. Bug#595829: Bug 595829: mozvoikko: FTBFS in squeeze: mozVoikko.hxx:23:18: error: nspr.h:, No such file or directory
reassign 595829 libnspr4-dev retitle 595829 dependencies in libxul-unstable.pc and libxul.pc are stricter than dependencies of package thanks libxul.pc and libxul-unstable.pc contain Requires: nspr = 4.8.6 . However xulrunner-dev only has an unversioned dependency on libnspr4-dev and the version of libnspr4-dev in squeeze is only 4.8.4-2 . This causes pkg-config --cflags libxul-unstable and pkg-config --cflags libxul to fail in squeeze (they work fine in sid). This appears to the cause of the mozvoikko build failure and I have confirmed that upgrading libnspr4-dev and libnspr4-0d in my squeeze chroot to the sid versions makes mozvoikko build. ccing debian-release for thier opinion on how this relates to the freeze (the simplest way to fix the FTBFS would be to let the new nspr into squeeze) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#596079: software-center: Doesn't display any applications [xapian update]
ddseverity 596079 grave tag 596079 + patch thanks Sorry, I did try to check all the reverse deps before the transition, but it seems I didn't spot this problem. The attached patch should fix this issue, though there may be others. The patch is against the version in Ubuntu lucid, as I had that immediately to hand and I don't have much spare time today. The patched version also works with Xapian 1.0 so this patch can be safely applied upstream too (the code software-centre is using here was deprecated some time ago). For completeness, the remaining bugs: * afuaf/zhgaa is treated as afuaf/afuaf, since h(afuaf) == h(zhgaa). * a/b is invalid. A compliant XML parser should return an error, hpricot returns a/b/a (which is also invalid XML, but at least it's a fixed point). Bug#596192: python-nevow: fails to install: SyntaxError when byte-compiling

Bug #590138 is about exactly the same issue as I report. A merge seems a good way to proceed. There are no other way to fix this bug since it is already fixed in the version in squeeze and does not exist in stable. No, it is *not* fixed in squeeze, only in sid. It is fixed in python2.6 version 2.6.6-2, but squeeze only has 2.6.6~rc1-1. -- Lionel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#590138: #590138 filed against wrong package (python-minimal: please add Breaks: for packages incompatible with python2.6)
This bug was filed against python-minimal (src package python-defaults), but fixed in python2.6-minimal (src package python2.6). This was keeping proper version tracking to come into effect, and especially since this is filed as an RC bug (severity: serious), I made the necessary fiddling so that it is properly registered against python2.6, with proper found / fixed versions so that version tracking knows it is found in squeeze and fixed in sid, and we do not release with this bug. -- Lionel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. This appears to the cause of the mozvoikko build failure and I have confirmed that upgrading libnspr4-dev and libnspr4-0d in my squeeze chroot to the sid versions makes mozvoikko build. ccing debian-release for thier opinion on how this relates to the freeze (the simplest way to fix the FTBFS would be to let the new nspr into squeeze) The maintainer asked us not to do that, and is fixing the problem in xulrunner-dev; see http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/09/msg00524.html Regards, Adam -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
