Bug#544310: xsidplay: diff for NMU version 2.0.3-1.1
Hi Gregor, On Sun, 2011-01-02 at 02:36 +0100, gregor herrmann wrote: I've prepared an NMU for xsidplay (versioned as 2.0.3-1.1) and uploaded it to DELAYED/2. Thanks for your heads-up, I made a normal upload. I've also added {misc:Depends} to the binary (hope that Release Team will unblock it). BTW, sometimes I think xsidplay should be removed. It's Qt3 and has a dead upstream. I think I've seen some activity from someone else, but later s/he disappeared as well. :( Thanks for your work anyhow, Laszlo/GCS -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#594967: Bug #594967: [poulsbo] grub-pc Hangs After Welcome to GRUB!
On Sat, Jan 01, 2011 at 10:12:44PM -0500, P. J. McDermott wrote: On 01/01/2011 06:57 PM, Colin Watson wrote: One effect of these changes was to load the video_cirrus and video_bochs modules by default (you can test whether this is the culprit by commenting them out in grub.cfg). I've seen a handful of systems that hang while trying to enumerate the PCI bus in GRUB; it so happens that those are the only modules that usually trigger GRUB's PCI bus enumeration in normal circumstances ... You can also verify this at a lower level by trying 'lspci' at a GRUB prompt. If it's the same problem, this will hang. I noticed the new bochs and cirrus files, but I didn't think they would affect a Poulsbo system. You're right though; I commented out those lines, and I'm now looking at a graphical menu for GNU GRUB version 1.98+20100804-11 (as installed by Squeeze beta1's debian-installer) on an AO751h. I suppose the problem then is in either grub_pci_iterate() or the hook functions passed to it by the cirrus and bochs modules? grub_pci_iterate itself, IIRC. On the system I briefly had access to, it hung when it tried to read from a particular address in PCI memory (when it got to some high-numbered bus - 171 or something like that, I forget the exact number). GRUB just reads through PCI busses sequentially from 0 to 255. Linux does something much more complicated. In the time I had available I couldn't figure out how to reproduce it in GRUB, or whether it was necessary - it seemed to be stopping well before bus 255 though. I think it was getting the limit from PCI configuration space, but there seemed to be some kind of multi-level scheme going on. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I think it was getting the limit from PCI configuration space, but there seemed to be some kind of multi-level scheme going on. The PCI specification itself is behind a membership-only interface (I haven't looked yet to see if membership is free). However, from what I can make out, we shouldn't be just walking from 0 to 255. What you're supposed to do is: * Walk through bus 0. * If any PCI-PCI bridge devices (class 6, subclass 4) were found, then they may have additional buses behind them. The bus numbers behind these bridges must be the bridge's Secondary Bus Number register, and = the bridge's Subordinate Bus Number register. Recursively walk these buses in the same way as bus 0. Since the Subordinate Bus Number is a recursive upper bound for any bus beyond a given bridge, perhaps it's enough to take the maximum of all the Subordinate Bus Number registers for all PCI-PCI bridges on bus 0 and use that as the system's maximum bus number. It would seem more efficient to account for possible gaps in bus numbering and not try to interrogate buses we know to be in the gaps, though. http://tldp.org/LDP/tlk/dd/pci.html seems like a reasonable layman's summary. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. severity 608642 important tag 608642 help thanks after some more tests.. on my own ultra30, neither plzip 0.6 nor 0.7 do fail to build. on smetana.d.o, both 0.6 and 0.7 fail, whereas the buildds could build 0.6 successfully. therefore, it looks to me like an issue involving specific hardware features/combinations/configurations/$whatever of the sparc machines in question, rather than a generic sparc failure, thus lowering severity to important. Bug#607267: /usr/bin/scp: fails to notice close() errors
Hello Excerpts from Julien Cristau's message of Sat Dec 25 22:00:11 +0100 2010: user release.debian@packages.debian.org usertag 607267 squeeze-can-defer tag 607267 squeeze-ignore kthxbye On Thu, Dec 16, 2010 at 13:40:30 +0100, Michal Suchanek wrote: Package: openssh-client Version: 1:5.5p1-5+b1 Severity: grave File: /usr/bin/scp Justification: causes non-serious data loss scp fails to notice close() errors. I'm not sure this is grave, but in any case this won't block the release, tagging accordingly. As data loss is defined as grave I would expect this is the case. I tried on 2.6.36 release kernel (not rc) and the issue stays. I also tried to open and write a file in a scripting shell and found that the error is only reported on fsync(). Not sure if this is compliant to anything but the Linux close(2) man page clearly states: A successful close does not guarantee that the data has been successfully saved to disk, as the kernel defers writes. It is not common for a file system to flush the buffers when the stream is closed. If you need to be sure that the data is physically stored use fsync(2). (It will depend on the disk hardware at this point.) This suggests that the reason the error is not recognized is due to scp not doing fsync() which is the only guaranteed way to ensure that the data is ever written to the file. This condition may occur when you run out of disk space (which is hopefully rare but the more surprising) and possibly when you run out of disk quota. This same issue also happens with cp(1) from coreutils. Thanks Michal -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#608519: grub-pc: 05_debian_theme assumes background image was copied from an installed desktop-base
severity 608519 important tag 608519 confirmed wontfix thanks Hi, Am Freitag, den 31.12.2010, 19:39 + schrieb Brian Potkin: I have a machine running unstable. The background image is moreblue-orbit-grub.png which is in /boot/grub. The image was copied from desktop-base but the package itself has never been installed on the system and, due to space restrictions, never will be. The recent upgrade has deleted moreblue-orbit-grub.png and made it impossible for it to be used when in /boot/grub. Basically, you can have any image in that location provided it isn't moreblue-orbit-grub or debian-blueish-wallpaper-640x48! Unfortunately I can't think of any way to fix this. 05_debian_theme is already comparing filenames AND checksums to make sure it doesn't delete user-generated files. I was also thinking about comparing the timestamps so that problems like yours could be avoided, however if you take a look at the old postinst code... # /boot/grub/ has more chances of being accessible by GRUB if test -e /boot/grub/grub.cfg ; then for i in /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 /usr/share/images/desktop-base/moreblue-orbit-grub.png ; do if test -e $i ; then cp $i /boot/grub/ fi done fi ... you'll see that `cp' was used without the `-a' switch, so timestamps were not preserved. Therefore I don't think there is any way to determine whether that file was put there by you or GRUB's postinst. That was the bad news. However, there is also good news: a) 05_debian_theme compares both filename and checksum. If you rename the file to something like `my_custom_background.png' everything should work just fine. b) The code which cleans up old background images shouldn't be necessary any more if you had at least the squeeze version installed. I'm therefore planning to remove that code at some point after squeeze's release. The patch is already written, I'm just waiting for the mail from debian-annou...@d.o ;-) I hope this helps! Bug#607193: document various download options/locations for Squeeze CD images
Hi, Matthew Stitt wrote: Stefano Zacchiroli wrote: Starting with Debian Squeeze, there will be (more) download options/locations for CD images, be them netinst/complete/etc. In particular, users of specific pieces of hardware will be affected by the choice of images containing (or not) non-free firmware for the Linux kernel. We should document that on the website before the Squeeze release, obviously the prominent links should point to Debian images; links to non-free firmware images should be provided under big fat warnings that they are not part of Debian and supported only to the extent that not having their source code permits. Maybe, a link to the announcement text of today (http://www.debian.org/News/2010/20101215) can be provided too? I would like to help but don't know how to get started. Is there anything specific I could work on for the Squeeze team? I think http://www.debian.org/CD and particularly http://www.debian.org/CD/jigdo-cd/ would be the first pages that need updating. I have a few images you, or anyone with an affected system, can try without needing me to be in front of the machine. (If this doesn't work then we can see if we can make arrangements.) These are the usual hybrid CD/USB images created by grub-mkrescue, despite the .iso extension. The patch files alongside them are each relative to http://bzr.sv.gnu.org/r/grub/trunk/grub/ revision 3006, built with './autogen.sh ./configure --with-platform=pc make ./grub-mkrescue --grub-mkimage=./grub-mkimage --override-directory=grub-core -o 1.iso' (etc.). http://people.debian.org/~cjwatson/tmp/grub-pci/ Boot each of the images, which should result in a GRUB prompt, and run: set debug=pci lspci The first image should hang; I'm interested in the last bus number printed. The second may or may not hang, depending on the exact point things go wrong; again, I'm interested in the last bus number printed. If my theory is correct, then the third should complete successfully; either way, I'd like the full output from the third image (sorry, it may take a little while to transcribe). -march=native is only supported for (Intel 386 and AMD x86-64)-like targets. A simple solution would be to just disable this flag. Bug#606317: apache2: upgrade to sysvinit causes apache virtualhosts to fail - started before bind9
Hi Ian, I think that if nobody found the issue, it's because nowadays, almost everyone is using IP based virtualhosts, because starting apache with named virtualhost makes apache resolve as many hostname as you have vhosts, and in many situations, this can take a long long time. Anyway, did you try to add a: Sound-Start: bind9 in the init script dependencies of Apache? Does it fixes the issue? Bug#602333: /usr/bin/fusermount: fusermount allows unmount any filesystem
I've been trying to get to the bottom of this bug over the past day, not helped by libfuse redirecting fusermount's stderr to /dev/null. There are actually two bugs here with roughly the same effect. When mounting, fusermount must: 1. Make the mount() system call; 2. Run the mount command to record the mountpoint in /etc/mtab; 3. If (2) fails then unmount using the umount2() system call. We must prevent the mount command from canonicalising symlinks when adding to /etc/mtab. This is supposed to be done already, but there is an automatic fallback for compatibility with old versions of the mount command which can be exploited by forcing the first invocation to fail. Currently (3) uses the absolute path, which may have been redirected since (1). I'll apply the attached patch for squeeze. Unfortunately we cannot fix the first bug on lenny as its version of mount does not support --no-canonicalize. There is no point in fixing only one of the bugs. Actually, this doesn't quite work: the call to umount2() will refer to the mountpoint directory (now hidden) whereas we need to refer to the mounted directory. Maybe this call should be removed completely, as I don't think it can be made reliable. Is there anything specific I could work on for the Squeeze team? I think http://www.debian.org/CD and particularly http://www.debian.org/CD/jigdo-cd/ would be the first pages that need updating. They are in directories under http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/ Once we do a release including them, I will add directory structure there to match how we release the official images (i.e. http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/6.0.0 etc.) -- Steve McIntyre, Cambridge, UK.st...@einval.com Mature Sporty Personal More Innovation More Adult A Man in Dandism Powered Midship Specialty -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#608724: gwibber bypasses certificate checking when providing the login/password for OAuth
Package: gwibber Version: 2.91.2-1 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Gwibber bypasses certificate checking when the login/password is provided, at least to identi.ca. Here's what I did: 1. Since I revoked Gwibber access for identi.ca a few days ago (by mistake: it was listed as an unknown application), I had to re-authorize it. For that, I had to provide my login/password. 2. Gwibber still didn't work with identi.ca: Refresh did nothing. 3. With Firefox, I checked on the Connected applications page that a new application was approved (still listed as Unknown application BTW, but it could only be Gwibber). This means that my login and password were really sent to identi.ca. 4. I quit Gwibber. 5. I installed the COMODOHigh-AssuranceSecureServerCA.crt certificate as described on: http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com/msg2685302.html 6. I restarted Gwibber and did a refresh. It worked! So, since the needed certificate wasn't installed for Gwibber (because Refresh didn't work before and worked after its manual installation) but the login and password had been accepted by identi.ca before I installed the certificate, this means that Gwibber didn't do the usual CA certificate checking for the OAuth part, which is quite critical as this is where the login and password were sent. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=POSIX, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gwibber depends on: ii gnome-keyring 2.30.3-4 GNOME keyring services (daemon and ii gwibber-service 2.91.2-1 Open source social networking clie ii libjs-jquery1.4.2-2 JavaScript library for dynamic web ii librsvg2-2 2.26.3-1 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii librsvg2-common 2.26.3-1 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii python 2.6.6-3+squeeze4 interactive high-level object-orie ii python-dbus 0.83.1-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii python-egenix-mxdatetim 3.1.3-4 date and time handling routines fo ii python-gconf2.28.1-1 Python bindings for the GConf conf ii python-gtk2 2.17.0-4 Python bindings for the GTK+ widge ii python-gtkspell 2.25.3-6 Python bindings for the GtkSpell l ii python-imaging 1.1.7-2 Python Imaging Library ii python-mako 0.3.6-1 fast and lightweight templating fo ii python-oauth1.0.1-2 Python library implementing of the ii python-simplejson 2.1.2-1 simple, fast, extensible JSON enco ii python-support 1.0.11 automated rebuilding support for P ii python-webkit 1.1.8-1 WebKit/Gtk Python bindings ii python-wnck 2.30.0-4 Python bindings for the WNCK libra ii python-xdg 0.19-2 Python library to access freedeskt gwibber recommends no packages. Bug#608187: xresprobe: FTBFS on i386: error: 'IF_MASK' undeclared
[Holger Levsen] Petter has replaced it with a recommends on ddccontrol|xresprobe already. Yes, in our svn. But initial testing of ddccontrol seem to indicate that it do not report the DDC info I want from the monitor. Frequency info is missing. So ddccontrol do not seem to be a sensible alternative to xresprobe, and I might have to revert it in svn. In the mean time, I have uploaded a fixed version of xresprobe to unstable, fixing the RC issue and hopefully making the package fit for squeeze again. I am aware that at least on of the maintainers in the X team want to remove the package instead, as it is no longer used when setting up X.org. It might be relevant for the release teams judgement. :) Happy hacking, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#608711: pimd: FTBFS on kfreebsd-*: kern.c:341: error: unused parameter 'v'
Hi Cyril, thank you for you for your report. * Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org [2011-01-02 23:25] wrote: Source: pimd Version: 2.1.5-2 Severity: serious Justification: FTBFS Hi, your package no longer builds on kfreebsd-*: | CC kern.o | cc1: warnings being treated as errors | kern.c: In function 'k_del_vif': | kern.c:341: error: unused parameter 'v' | make[1]: *** [kern.o] Error 1 (Yay for -Werror.) Is there any real reason for forcing -Werror during the package build? I don't know if you had time to check the sources. The error is caused by the fact, that MRT_DEL_VIF API is different in linux and in BSD (Linux needs pointer to struct uvif). So the implementation in pimd: - always passes pointer to that structure to k_del_vif() - if on Linux, it is passed to kernel - if on BSD, it is not used So I we stick with -Werror, than I see two solutions: a) wrap calls to k_del_vif() with additional logic which will change the prototype / will decide to or not to pass the scructure b) fake use of 'v' (which is the structure) in k_del_vif() Both options seems to be a bit of 'hack'. I've included Joachim (upstream) to this discussion to have his point of view. Thank you, Antonin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#608711: pimd: FTBFS on kfreebsd-*: kern.c:341: error: unused parameter 'v'
Hi Guys! Is there any real reason for forcing -Werror during the package build? It's more of a policy thing for me. Warnings tend to hide real bugs ... at least in my world. :) I don't know if you had time to check the sources. The error is caused by the fact, that MRT_DEL_VIF API is different in linux and in BSD (Linux needs pointer to struct uvif). So the implementation in pimd: - always passes pointer to that structure to k_del_vif() - if on Linux, it is passed to kernel - if on BSD, it is not used Yeah, this is a regression. My bad. I've been working on fixing some bugs where mrouted and pimd share code and I accidentally created this mess. It was bad testing on my part, sorry! So I we stick with -Werror, than I see two solutions: a) wrap calls to k_del_vif() with additional logic which will change the prototype / will decide to or not to pass the scructure b) fake use of 'v' (which is the structure) in k_del_vif() Both options seems to be a bit of 'hack'.
