Bug#594379: haveged still have an RC bug
Hi, Steve! On Tue, Oct 19, 2010 at 11:57:01PM +0200, Jérémy Bobbio wrote: On Tue, Oct 19, 2010 at 11:27:09PM +0200, Sven Hartge wrote: I revived my SunFire v240, installed an up-to-date Sid on it and tried to reproduce this bug. But I am no longer able to get the mentioned error with the current gcc-4.4 from Sid. haveged compiles, links and runs in both 32bit and 64bit (-m64) mode. A quick check with the included crypto tests also shows no apparent error in the resulting binaries. I believe this bug will vanish if the dependency on gcc-4.3 is removed. On i386/amd64 haveged will have to get compiled using -O0, because of the segfault still occurring on these archs. For another option, I have found in polarssl assembly code to retrieve the hardclock on older Sparc architectures. With the attached patch applied, haveged did build and test fine on smetana.d.o. By any chance, could you comment on this release critical bug that still affects haveged? It did prevent haveged from entering Squeeze which is a little bit annoying. I would very much like to see haveged at least be present in squeeze-backports, but we need to have a working version in testing before it could happen. For what it worth, upstream has released two new versions in january, and it looks like they can be built and used with gcc-4.4 and gcc-4.5 without having to fiddle with compiler options. Seemed like a lot of effort some time ago, but having to work around it forever doesn't seem trivial either. For me it is a bug when a build relies on the contents of $HOME as it makes builds harder to reproduce. Bug#617417: [Pkg-lirc-maint] Bug#617417: liblircclient0: Breaks inputlirc.
Hi On Wednesday 09 March 2011, Christian Ohm wrote: On Wednesday, 9 March 2011 at 4:46, Stefan Lippers-Hollmann wrote: I think I've located the issue now, lirc 0.8.6 changed the default socket location from /dev/lircd to /var/run/lirc/lircd, while inputlirc doesn't know about this new socket location. It would be great if you could test changing the socket location for inputlirc: inputlircd -d /var/run/lirc/lircd -f /dev/input/event0 or OPTIONS=-d /var/run/lirc/lircd in /etc/default/inputlirc respectively. Ah, that was it, now it works. Thanks! I didn't notice that change (just looked in /dev where it usually was). At the moment, I'm not really sure where this issue is to be fixed best, as this lirc upstream change is well established by now and because teh socket doesn't really belong into /dev/: I guess the problem is really inputlirc, which should default to the new socket location now. Thanks for confirming my suspicion, I've reported it as #617523 http://bugs.debian.org/617523 now. Bug#617537: src:mrpt: FTBFS, uses silly amounts of memory
Thanks for filing the bug, Julien! Hopefully it's already fixed upstream, I'll marked it as closed in the next release. The memory problem was due to a recent change to Eigen3, a cool library for matrices, but it *massively* relies on C++ templates and leads to this sort of things. I just split big .cpp files into smaller pieces and observed the memory consumption was reduced. Let's see... BTW: Do you know if those build errors are what prevents mrpt-0.9.4 to move into testing or it is something else? Package: openoffice.org-ctl-he Severity: serious [ actually I do think this package never made any sense, especially since OOo did switch to LTR mode if the locale was set correctly, but anyway ] # apt-get install openoffice.org-ctl-he Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: openoffice.org-ctl-he : Depends: openoffice.org-core but it is not installable E: Broken packages openoffice.org-core is gone and there's only LibreOffice there. So you must update the package dependencies. Moreover, unopkg is in /usr/lib/libreoffice now (and yes, there's no compat symlink for this in place (yet), but you should not use such things from maintainer scripts anyway as you'd need to depend on the transitional packages for this).. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.utf8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages openoffice.org-ctl-he depends on: pn openoffice.org-core none (no description available) openoffice.org-ctl-he recommends no packages. openoffice.org-ctl-he suggests no packages. I am aware, and waiting for a new upstream release that was promised to arrive last week. it is supposed to fix this and a number of other issue that made any upstream release after 5.6.1 inferior to this one. I cannot give a better estimate of when a new upload will happen, but it is not forgotten. Fixing this particular issue in this outdated version is a bit of a waste of time as it looks like that upstream did major changes to the build-system. Bug#617596: libreoffice-base mangles data on trivial .odb database
Package: libreoffice-base Version: 1:3.3.1-1 Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss The data loss here is non-serious only because this is a trival database. If i had this happen to a database that i cared about, i would be unhappy. To reproduce: 0) run libreoffice 1) click Database 2) choose Create a new database, click Next 3) Yes, register the database for me (it's not clear what this means), and Open the database for editing; click Finish 4) choose a file name (test.odb) and click Save 5) Create Table in Design View... 6) (in design view) add 4 columns: * id (Integer [INTEGER]) * testa (Text [VARCHAR]) * testb (Date [DATE]) * testc (Number [NUMERIC]) 7) click Save on toolbar, accept default name Test1 8) on No primary key: Should a primary key be created now prompt, choose Yes (i observe that it creates a column named ID in addition to the id column that already exists. maybe this is the root of the problem?) 9) (back in main window) right-click new Table1, choose Open, enter some example rows. 10) for testb, i entered 2011-02-03, and when i hit tab, it turned into 40577. in testc, i put 123, and it gave me 40577 Thanks for maintaining libreoffice in debian! I hope this can get sorted out. --dkg PS i'm attaching the generated .odb file (i saved it) if it will help with debugging. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (200, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libreoffice-base depends on: ii gcj-4.4-jre [java5-run 4.4.5-9 Java runtime environment using GIJ ii libc6 2.11.2-11 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc11:4.5.2-4 GCC support library ii libhsqldb-java 1.8.0.10-9Java SQL database engine ii libreoffice-base-core 1:3.3.1-1 office productivity suite -- share ii libreoffice-core 1:3.3.1-1 office productivity suite -- arch- ii libreoffice-java-commo 1:3.3.1-1 office productivity suite -- arch- ii libstdc++6 4.5.2-4 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libstlport4.6ldbl 4.6.2-7 STLport C++ class library ii ure1.7.0+LibO3.3.1-1 LibreOffice UNO runtime environmen libreoffice-base recommends no packages. Bug#617469: Things that make you go hmmmm....
Anybody notice that the current PowerPC sid_d-i businesscard installed CD refuses to finish the booting process on a PowerMac? See bug report #617469 for details. I verified the md5 checksum. That's OK. I verified the CD against the ISO when I burned it. That's OK. I've tried this CD (and the Netinst CD corresponding) and gotten the same results on different PowerMac machines. Ya' can't test 'em if ya' can't boot 'em! H Rick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#617613: freecad: links with both GPL-licensed and GPL-incompatible libraries
Package: freecad Version: 0.10.3247.dfsg-2 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.2.1 Hello Debian Science Maintainers, thanks for maintaining freecad. This package is mainly released under the terms of the GNU LGPL v2 or later, but includes some files released under the terms of the GNU GPL v2 or later, and, above all, links with libcoin60, which is released under the terms of the GNU GPL v2 (only) [1]. [1] http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/c/coin3/coin3_3.1.3-1/libcoin60.copyright On the other hand, freecad links with libopencascade-*-6.3.0, which is released under the terms of the OCTPL v6.3: this license is itself acceptable [2] (from a DFSG point of view), but is GPLv2-incompatible, since it implements a copyleft mechanism and has no explicit GPL-compatibility clause. The GPL-incompatibility is acknowledged in Open CASCADE S.A.S. FAQ [3]: | 1) Is Open CASCADE Technology license GPL-compatible? | | No, it is not. OPEN CASCADE Company uses its own custom license. | However, it follows LGPL license in terms of its purpose and intent. [2] http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2007/12/msg00077.html [3] http://www.opencascade.org/occt/faq/ As a consequence, I would say that freecad (the binary package) is currently undistributable, as it links with both a GPLv2-licensed library and a GPLv2-incompatible one. AFAICT, there are three possible ways to fix this issue, in descending order of desirability. (A) Open CASCADE S.A.S. should be contacted and persuaded to re-license Open CASCADE Technology under GPLv2-compatible terms. (B) Open CASCADE Technology should be substituted with a GPLv2-compatible replacement, if any is available. (C) Coin3D copyright holder should contacted and asked to add a license exception to give permission to link Coin3D with code released under the OCTPL; this additional permission should be drafted along the lines of the template [4] suggested by the FSF. A similar exception is needed for GPL-licensed files in FreeCAD itself and should be asked to the corresponding copyright holders. [4] http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLIncompatibleLibs Now, the half-good news. It seems that there's some possibility [5] that Open CASCADE Technology could be re-licensed under the terms of the LGPLv2.1: this would make it GPLv2-compatible (solution (A) above). [5] http://www.opencascade.org/org/forum/thread_15859/ I got in touch with upstream (Open CASCADE S.A.S.) via their web contact form [6] and got a somewhat encouraging reply. [6] http://www.opencascade.org/about/contacts/ This happened on April 2009, though. There has been no progress on the re-licensing of Open CASCADE since then: the management (of Open CASCADE S.A.S.) has not yet taken a decision on the matter. I have been going on contacting them periodically and asking them whether there's any progress, but, apparently, I am not persuasive enough... :-( I reported this on the debian-legal list [7][8]. [7] http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2009/10/msg0.html [8] http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2010/02/msg7.html Please note that Open CASCADE Technology version 6.5 has been recently released, but v6.5 of the license, despite having a much more accurate preamble, is substantially unchanged in its legally binding text. If nobody else helps me by contacting Open CASCADE S.A.S. and persuading them to re-license Open CASCADE Technology under the LGPLv2.1, I am afraid that the above-mentioned solution (A) will not be a viable option... :-( So, please, pretty please, help me in persuading Open CASCADE S.A.S. to switch to the GNU LGPL v2.1! I recommend involving FreeCAD upstream too in this persuasion effort. The more people get in touch with Open CASCADE S.A.S. and try to persuade them, the better. Bug#617628: tcl8.5: Tcl/Tk applications on powerpc crash on startup with out of stack space message
Subject: tcl8.5: Tcl/Tk applications on powerpc crash on startup with out of stack space message Package: tcl8.5 Version: 8.5.9-2 Justification: renders package unusable Severity: grave Tags: upstream *** Please type your report below this line *** The tcl libraries now end up being built with -DTCL_STACK_GROWS_UP=1 on the cc command line, which causes the check for stack overflow to have the wrong polarity. Consequently, every Tcl and Tcl/Tk application exits immediately on startup with a message about being out of stack space. The configure test that causes this flag to be set works by running a small program that looks like this: int StackGrowsUp(int *parent) { int here; return (here parent); } int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { int foo; return StackGrowsUp(foo); } What happens is that gcc now inlines the StackGrowsUp function, meaning that the result of the program depends only on how gcc's algorithm for assigning stack slots for local variables happens to lay out the stack. On powerpc with gcc-4.5.2 (Debian version 4:4.5.2-1), gcc allocates `here' above `foo', which makes it look like the stack grows up when in fact it grows down. This could happen on any architecture where gcc automatically inlines functions. It so happens that it doesn't on x86 at the moment and does on powerpc. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.36-rc4+ (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages tcl8.5 depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-11 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib tcl8.5 recommends no packages.
