Bug#630445: gnome-settings-daemon: produces a lot of GVFS-RemoteVolumeMonitor-WARNING, sends tons of messages to dbus which eat CPU

2011-06-14 Thread Alexandr Bravo
Package: gnome-settings-daemon
Version: 2.30.2-3
Severity: serious

After login to Gnome I see the CPU load over 40% (4-core i3 intel) produced
by
dbus. Trying to find a reason for that I found .xsession-errors growing very
fast to megabytes with the repeated messages inside:

.xsession-errors

List() failed for type GProxyVolumeMonitorGdu:

:1.231931 for volume monitor org.gtk.Private.GduVolumeMonitor connected to
the
bus; seeding drives/volumes/mounts

---

The only way to stop it I found is to kill gnome-settings-daemon, which
makes it unusable.

Possible side-effect is the problem with gnome-panel which is invisible
after Gnome start and could be unhide by killing gnome-panel process. Before
killing it produces similar to gnome-settings-daemon warnings in
.xsession-errors:

(gnome-panel:2885): GVFS-RemoteVolumeMonitor-WARNING **: invoking List()
failed for type GProxyVolumeMonitorGdu: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply:

Package: libkio5
Version: 4:4.4.5-3.1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

I tried to create tar by KBackup program and found
truncated names of my files in .tar. KBackup uses
KTar class for writing tar files and that class
have broken UTF-8 support, it seems.

First, tar archives have to use longlink trick to
store names longer than 100 bytes. KTar class has
functions implementing longlink, but they check name
length in _characters_, not in bytes. For non-ASCII
characters in UTF-8 length of string in bytes and
length in characters do not match. In my case file
had character-length less than 100 and byte-length
greater than 100, so name simply truncated. Such
behavior can be observed on non-ASCII UTF-8 or any
other multibyte encoding. If file name is very long,
resulting .tar may become unreadable.

Second, calculation of 'chksum' field of tar header also
broken: 'buffer' array defined as char, a signed number,
while in tar sources chksum obtained as sum of unsigned
values (actually there is the trick for (unsigned char)
emulate, converting to integer and then logical and with
0xFF). May be bad checksum was reason for unreadable .tar.

In the following patch you'll find a fix for this bug.

Hi,

I can confirm that the 4.2-build2004 version of oss4 is working fine
for me, and I've been using it for a few months now, but that's the
version I've packaged myself, not the one on your SVN...

However, I only updated the orig.tar.gz to the new upstream version
and the patches files so that they apply on it (the biggest change was
in os_cmd.patch where an additional line was introduced -- see the
patch file I've provided -- as the other patches apply with a few line
offsets). So if you just did the same, there shouldn't be any
differences.

Justification: fails to build from source

Hi,

your package FTBFS on several architectures after binNMU was requested
to rebuild with newer Berkeley DB, the build always fails with:

Bug#629589: segfault gone, but problems remain

2011-06-14 Thread Ondřej Surý
I think we can chock this up to operator error due to flaky DNS - why it
worked ~25% of the time is a mystery... krb is pretty sensitive to forward,
 reverse, and canonical host names.

Thanks... looks like 'tis time to update more machines now :)

Just to clarify - you consider this bug to be closed and the failure
was most probably caused by DNS (which could be checked by putting
hostname to /etc/hosts).

BTW... Rick, I am still waiting for sendmail to move to Berkeley DB
5.1, so we can finish the transition to db5.1

Bug#630424: Maybe a Problem with tip22

2011-06-14 Thread Edwin Kwan

Hi,

The screen shot in Attilio's bug report was done by me on my Indy. I
am not experienced in this beginning of the universe kind of code. But
I found the following clues which may be useful.

	Please refer to bug 452798
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=452798). Here is
message #15 from Guido:

On Sun, Nov 25, 2007 at 01:02:25PM +0100, Martin Michlmayr wrote:

How much work is 64 bit support?

It's not the 64bit support, things are simply not fitting into the
memory segment we use anymore:

Tip22 finds this memory map on my Indy:

1) Free Memory(3) segment found at (0x88002000,0x8874)
2) Free Memory(3) segment found at (0x8880,0x89002000)
3) Free Memory(3) segment found at (0x896f2000,0x9400)

(1) is where the running kernel + initrd goes. (2) is where we tell the
prom to download the tftpboot image to and (3) is lots of free space.
The 64bit kernel (7MB) is just so much bigger than the 32bit one.

Attached is a hack to get things booting again (so installer testing can
proceed). It puts the tftp boot file into (3) and the initrd into (2) -
it succesfully boots a kernel with an initramfs on my R5K Indy. I'll
have to change some of the reservation code so we don't waste so much
ram before I can fix this for real though.
Cheers,
 -- Guido

Here is the objdump -x output of the netboot-boot.img from Lenny:

And here is the objdump -x output of the netboot-boot.img from

It seems to me that what Guido wanted was done in Lenny but not in
Squeeze. In the screen shot, initrd was being copied into 0x8880
by the Squeeze image. Wouldn't it overwrite the loader?

I downloaded the Squeeze tip22 package, and here is the beginning of
the ld.script.IP22 script:

OUTPUT_FORMAT(ecoff-bigmips)
OUTPUT_ARCH(mips)

Thanks for your help!

Hello Nick,
is there any update on this issue (and on 626800 too) ? do you need
sponsoring? Please note we need a quick fix for them, since this
package is blocking the python transition.

Thanks for your work and attention,

Bug#630142: [pkg-kolab] Bug#630142: Regression: bug #594541 is back?

2011-06-14 Thread Mathieu Parent
reassign 630142 horde3
thanks

Hello

2011/6/11 Juha Jäykkä ju...@iki.fi:
 Package: php-kolab-filter
 Version: 0.1.9-4
 Severity: grave
 Justification: renders package unusable

 Hi!

It seems the following was forgotten from the fix of #594541:

Deprecated:  Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated
 in /usr/share/horde3/lib/Horde/Kolab/Server/Object.php on line 216

This file is in the horde3 package. Reassigning.

P.S. Should I have (how?) reopened the old bug?
No.

Regards

currently I do not plan to fix that bug asap as I does not break any

Me too, but receiving 6 mails/day because of that bug is a good
incentive for me to fix it.

If you want to NMU then feel free.

OK, consider it done.

libcloud fails to perform ssl validation on https connections.
This means that users of this module, who which perform api requests using

python-libcloud - unified Python interface into the cloud
Closes: 598463
Changes:
 libcloud (0.5.0-1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream release (Closes: #598463)
   * Make myself Uploader instead of Maintainer and set DPMT as the
 maintainer.
   * Adjust debian/watch now that libcloud is a toplevel Apache project.
   * Remove dependency on zope.interface (dropped upstream).
   * Convert to debhelper 7 and dh_python2.
   * Bumped Standards-Version to 3.9.2. No changes needed.
   * Bump debian/compat to 7.
   * Drop debian/pycompat.
   * Use debian/clean instead of overriding dh_auth_clean.

Well, I do have an udevd process around, but two others as well:
$ pidof udevd
30098 30097 30096

If I do it again, all udevd stop, but nothing changes. dmesg gives me:
Jun 14 14:53:57 * udevd[31461]: bind failed: Address already in use
Jun 14 14:53:57 * udevd[31461]: error binding udev control socket

(with s/hostname/*/)

Upgrading udev also removed systemd which was running as init, which
might explain the breakage. I'm trying to restart now and see what
happens.

Bug#630320: obus: FTBFS on several architectures: can't find Dynlink

2011-06-14 Thread Nicolas Dandrimont

clone 630320 -1
reassign -1 libfindlib-ocaml 1.2.6+debian-1
retitle -1 camlp4 depends on Dynlink on all architectures
severity -1 important
tag -1 patch
retitle 630320 FTBFS on ocaml native arches without native dynlink
tag 630320 pending
thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your report. There are indeed two separate issues, one for
armel, and one for the other architectures.

The armel issue is an obus issue: configure detects that armel is a native
architecture and therefore builds native files. However, as camlp4
depends on dynlink, and armel doesn't have native dynlink, it fails to
build. Forcing a non-native build on architectures without natdynlink
fixes the issue.

For the other arches, the problem is that camlp4 now unconditionnally
depends on Dynlink, whether the architecture have natdynlink or
not. This change (which I couldn't trace, but surely is an ocaml
upstream change) wasn't reflected in the METAS/META.camlp4 file, and
now camlp4.lib fails to link on non-natdynlink architectures.

To see the bug, e.g. on a mipsel qemu:

--8--
nicolasd@debian:~$ ocaml
Objective Caml version 3.12.0

# #use topfind;;
- : unit = ()
Findlib has been successfully loaded. Additional directives:
#require package;; to load a package
#list;; to list the available packages
  #camlp4o;;to load camlp4 (standard syntax)
  #camlp4r;;to load camlp4 (revised syntax)
#predicates p,q,...;; to set these predicates
Topfind.reset();; to force that packages will be reloaded
  #thread;; to enable threads

- : unit = ()
# #camlp4o;;
/usr/lib/ocaml/camlp4: added to search path
/usr/lib/ocaml/camlp4/camlp4o.cma: loaded
Error: Reference to undefined global `Dynlink'
--8--

Attached is a patch for findlib, I didn't commit this as I'm not certain
this is the way to go. But anyway after changing the META.camlp4 file
the obus FTBFS goes away.

Thanks,

This is unstable, this kind of stuff happens all the time if you use

Bug#629442: [Pkg-iscsi-maintainers] Bug#629442: iscsitarget: ietd gives iscsi_trgt: Abort Task errors on high disk load and iscsi connections are dropped

2011-06-14 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
On 06/14/2011 05:12 PM, Massimiliano Ferrero wrote:

Next time, when you try to test/re-create the bug, capture dstat output.
The default dstat output is good enough to report us on the system state
 was during starvation.
Hello, yesterday and tonight I performed some other tests, these are the
 results:

 1) it seems I am not able to reproduce the bug on a test system
the test system (san01) has the same processor (E5220) and amount of RAM
12 GB, but a smaller I/O system: an 8 channel 3ware controller with an 8
 disks raid 5 array
the system that presents the problem (san00) has a 24 channel controller
 and a 23 disks raid 6 array (+ 1 hot spare)
both systems are connected through the same gigabit switches

Is the OS/kernel also the same?

there is another hw difference between the two environment: the nodes
connected to san00 are high end hw, their network card is able to
generate nearly 1 Gb/s of iscsi traffic
the nodes connected to san01 are low end hw and their network card does
 not exceed 300 Mb/s
so the system that presents the problem has both an I/O subsystem with
higher performance and the machine that is doing iscsi traffic is able
to generate more than 3 times i/o operations

Unfortunately, dstat default output doesn't capture VM statistics. Do
you have any idea what was the VM consumption when you saw the problem?

Assuming it is buffered I/O, Your VM will soon be consumed (as I see
from dstat logs that the CPU was in wait for a very long time) and then
start paging. And this is the scenario, where linux tends to succumb, still.

On your faulty setup, can you try unbuffered direct I/O and see if
that can trigger the problem? I have low hopes that that will fail. To
trigger (direct) I/O, you can use fio tool. It is already pre-packaged
in Debian.

at the moment I am not able to tell which of these aspects, or the sum
of them, create the condition for the problem: I suspect that it's a mix
 of all these
unfortunately at the moment I do not have hw similar to the one in
production to perform a test in the same conditions.

 2) san00 presents the problem event with deadline scheduler active on
all logical volume exported through iscsi or used by the heavy load
 operation (dd)

 3) on san00 I was able to reproduce the problem in a simpler condition
than the one I described in the first mail: just one node connected
through iscsi, the other node was restarting, no virtual machines
running on the node, the node was performing one i/o intensive operation
on one of the lv exported by iscsi/lvm (an fsck on one file system)
during this operation I launched a dd on san00 and the iscsi connection
was dropped after a few seconds

I think it is the typical linux I/O controller problem, which I believe
is a combination of I/O Scheduler + VM Subsystem.

I am attaching 3 files: dstat output during the test and an extract of
 /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog
I have just filtered out information for non relevant services (nagios,
dhcp, snmp, postfix, etc.) both for readability and confidentiality
ietd was running with the following command line
 /usr/sbin/ietd --debug=255
so in the log we have debug information
the problem can be seen in syslog at Jun 14 01:28:53
at Jun 14 01:34:06 I turned off the node for reboot and in the log there
are some record regarding termination of iscsi sessions
I do not see anything relevant in ietd debug log, just a restart of the
 connections

in dstat output the dd operation was started around line 197 and was
terminated at line 208 (I interrupted the operation as soon as I saw the
 problem)

what I see in dstat output is the following: dd for some seconds (about
 10) does not generate a lot of read and writes

usr sys idl wai hiq siq| read writ| recv send| in out | int csw
   7 2 56 35 0 0| 12M 14M| 22k 35k| 0 0 |441512k

12M read and 14M write, and this could be from the dd operation or the
 fsck performed through iscsi

then there is a burst of write, I guess using the full I/O capacity of
the controller and of the disks

usr sys idl wai hiq siq| read writ| recv send| in out | int csw
 35 7 35 22 0 1|8180k 325M| 38k 25k| 0 0 |686011k

 write 325M, 541M, 473M
and this is exactly the moment when the problem arise

could it be that the i/o operation are cached in memory and the problem
presents when they are flushed to disk?

Yes, that's what my suspicion is also. The per bdi writeback mechanism
improves this situation to a great extent but I'm not sure if that is
part of the Squeeze kernel.

Ahh - thanks for spotting.

Hopefully works this time.

Bug#630228: foo2zjs: Firmware upload is not compatible with cups

2011-06-14 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have now updated the Ubuntu package (20110210dfsg-1ubuntu4) applying
the attached patch. The patch modifies the firmware upload script
hplj1000. It adds support for douing the firmware upload through the
usb backend of CUPS. This makes the upload independent of the presence
of usblp. It works also with the new libusb-based CUPS package.

Urks, no. Please do this in Makefile.am.

Tried that, but it's a no-go. Automake doesn't support
build time substitutions in _SOURCES AFAICT (its maintainers
seem to confirm this in
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/automake/2008-08/msg00047.html)

I fixed the style issues you commented, also rewrote the legacy
routine to use getifaddrs() which is more portable than SIOCGIFCONF
(I verified that Glibc implements this syscall on Linux, kFreeBSD and
the Hurd).

Bug#630509: missing conf/kern.mk conf/kmod.mk kern/vnode_if.src and tools/vnode_if.awk, necessary for building modules

2011-06-14 Thread Robert Millan
Package: kfreebsd-headers-8.2-1
Version: 8.2-1
Severity: grave

This package can't serve its purpose (building out-of-tree modules) without,
at least, the following files:

conf/kern.mk
conf/kmod.mk
kern/vnode_if.src
tools/vnode_if.awk

once they're copied from kfreebsd source, it becomes possible to build
fuse.kmod using kfreebsd-headers-8.2-1-amd64.

Bug#630512: uninstallable on GNU/kFreeBSD

2011-06-14 Thread Robert Millan
Package: ifupdown
Version: 0.7~alpha5
Severity: serious

With the versioned dependency on iproute, this package is no longer installable
on GNU/kFreeBSD.

On GNU/kFreeBSD, /sbin/route is a wrapper which attempts to provide a CLI that
is compatible with, precisely, iproute (freebsd-net-tools package).

Forcing the upgrade does not seem to break DHCP interfaces.
However, lo0 no longer works:

Bug#630527: Missing diversion of /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1

2011-06-14 Thread Benjamin Eikel
Package: libgl1-nvidia-alternatives
Version: 275.09.04-1
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

The following report applies to the current versions from unstable and
experimental.

I wondered why no OpenGL context could be created anymore. I got the following
output when calling glxinfo:

glxinfo
name of display: :0
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

I checked

ldd `which glxinfo` | grep libGL.so
libGL.so.1 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1 (0x7fec1d221000)

and saw

dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1
libgl1-mesa-glx: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1

There is a diversion for libGL.so.1 in /usr/lib:

dpkg -S /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
diversion by libgl1-nvidia-alternatives from: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
diversion by libgl1-nvidia-alternatives to:
/usr/lib/nvidia/diversions/libGL.so.1

Probably the multiarch change in mesa [1] caused this change.

So I think the diversion in this package have to be adapted.

Thank you for your work on this package!

Urks, no. Please do this in Makefile.am.

 Tried that, but it's a no-go. Automake doesn't support
build time substitutions in _SOURCES AFAICT (its maintainers
 seem to confirm this in
 http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/automake/2008-08/msg00047.html)

Uh? No. Please use autoconf conditions and then do

if LEGACY
foo_SOURCES += legacy.c
else
foo_SOURCES += netlink.c
endif

In the Makefile.am file.

| allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application
| crash) via a packet with malformed data that uses zlib compression.

CVE-2011-1959[2]:
| The snoop_read function in wiretap/snoop.c in Wireshark 1.2.x before
| 1.2.17 and 1.4.x before 1.4.7 does not properly handle certain
| virtualizable buffers, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial
| of service (application crash) via a large length value in a snoop
| file that triggers a stack-based buffer over-read.

If you fix the vulnerabilities please also make sure to include the
CVE ids in your changelog entry.

Bug#630453: the tutorial's license don't pass the free island test

2011-06-14 Thread Georges Khaznadar
Hello Timo, Berndt, David,

@Timo, Berndt:
thank you for raising this issue.

@David:
The bugreport raised by Timo and Berndt is available at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=630453

@everybody:
There are two solution for this issue:
- the license of the file kicad-doc/doc/tutorials/en/KiCad Tutorial.odt
is changed to become DFSG-free (definition at
  http://www.debian.org/social_contract)
- the license is not modified, and the package must be split into two
distinct Debian packages, kicad and kicad-tutorial, the first in
the section main, the second one in the section non-free. kicad should
  Suggest kicad-tutorial.

In the second case, I would like to ask Timo and Berndt how to do this
split conveniently:

is it possible to have a single source package, giving two output packages
in different sections like main and non-free?

my idea is that it is not allowed, so I should withdraw the conflicting
file from kicad's source, to build a package kicad-X.XX+dfsg, and upload
a package kicad-tutorial to the NEW queue.

Thank you in advance for your commebts and enlightenments!

Best regards, Georges.

As you mentioned in debian/changelog,

|- don't include Guidelines.pdf since it doesn't provide materials to
construct

Guidelines.pdf is provided without source, so it is not
distributable under the GPL-2+, and violates DFSG.

Removing it from debian/install is not enough. It should be
removed from the *.orig.tar.gz file.

Bug#630453: the tutorial's license don't pass the free island test

2011-06-14 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Hi,

Georges Khaznadar georges.khazna...@free.fr writes:
is it possible to have a single source package, giving two output packages
in different sections like main and non-free?

my idea is that it is not allowed,

this is not possible indeed since non-free stuff is not ok in the source
package either.

so I should withdraw the conflicting
file from kicad's source, to build a package kicad-X.XX+dfsg, and upload
a package kicad-tutorial to the NEW queue.

Sounds possible. I would rather see the license fixed though. I already
started updating the tutorial with screenshots from a more recent kicad
before I noticed the first page banner.

   * New release.
   * sbuild:
 - The apt and internal resolvers will resolve some alternatives
even when resolving alternative dependencies is disabled
(Closes: #622832). For relations involving the same package,
the alternative will be permitted when the package names are
the same for each alternative. For example,
 foo ( x) | foo (= y) | bar
   will be reduced to
 foo ( x) | foo (= y)
   while
 foo | bar
   will be reduced to
 foo
 - The sbuild-schroot wrapper program has been removed; sbuild is
   now an arch-all package again.
 - Move lock directory to /var/lib/sbuild/chroot-lock, rather than
using /var/lock/sbuild which could be a symlink to /run/lock on
the host (Closes: #626826). This means parallel builds won't
block due to sharing the same lockfile.
 - Remove schroot buildd profile. This will now be provided by
the schroot package itself directly. This requires schroot
   1.4.22 or greater.
 - Add lintian and piuparts results to build summary
   (Closes: #617450).
 - Remove directory correctly in postrm (Closes: #627641). Thanks
   to Daniel Baumann.
 - Lock sbuild account on purge, and unlock on install
   (Closes: #619892).
 - Add -j option to run parallel builds (Closes: #626357).
 - Log build environment prior to starting a build. This will be
useful in diagnosing problems with a misconfigured chroot, such
as missing HOME which can lead to misbuilds.
   * sbuild-createchroot:
 - Don't call ChrootSetup::basesetup after initial bootstrap; wait
until actually running sbuild. The users and groups used for

2011-06-14 Thread Sanjoy Mahajan
It's iproute 20110315-1, which is the same as yours. Oh, damn, I just
figured it out, and I have egg of my face:

$ which ip
/usr/local/sbin/ip
# ls -l /usr/local/sbin/ip
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 88488 Dec 27 2003 /usr/local/sbin/ip

So I must have installed it by hand 7 years ago and never noticed a
problem until recently.

Thus, feel free to close the bug.

Sounds possible. I would rather see the license fixed though. I already

Hi ovs-dev,

all of the logs above indicate failure in

359: ofproto.at:45 ofproto - basic flow_mod commands

Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with the output to determine
the problem without digging much further. Perhaps you have some ideas.

The detailed output from sparc is below.
I believe that the output is similar if not the same
on the other three architectures.

Bug#619647: sample code?

2011-06-14 Thread Kamaraju Kusumanchi
could you please send us the reduced source code of the program, how
you compiled it and all other instructions in order to reproduce the
problem?

Also could you please test whether the problem exists in gdb 7.2-1
(the current version in Debian testing)? If you can attach the code, I
can test it for you.

Yes, I looked at this today. I'll send out a fix for it tomorrow.

It's a bug in the testsuite, I think, not in OVS itself.

Thanks,

Ben.

Bug#630545: xflr5: FTBFS when not building -doc package

2011-06-14 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: xflr5
Version: 6.04.dfsg-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Builds of xflr5 fail when not building xflr5-doc, as on the autobuilders:

install -m 644 .../xflr5-6.04.dfsg/debian/Guidelines_v604.pdf
.../xflr5-6.04.dfsg/debian/xflr5-doc/usr/share/xflr5/Guidelines.pdf
install: cannot create regular file
`.../xflr5-6.04.dfsg/debian/xflr5-doc/usr/share/xflr5/Guidelines.pdf': No such
file or directory
make[1]: *** [override_dh_auto_install] Error 1

Could you please conditionalize the PDF file's installation? (You
might also want to consider placing it under /usr/share/doc, at which
point simply listing it in debian/xflr5-doc.docs should suffice.)

Thanks!

Understood.

Could you CC me or this bug on the fix? Then I can push it into
an upload to Debian.Org and the buildds can verify the change.
