Ok this problem was caused by my moving the repositories required for building the arch indep libraries to Build-Depends-Indep: the rest of the fix was good. So this is really a new bug, caused by my effort to fix the other one. No matter. I have uploaded to mentors.net version 1.77.00.0005-4 which removes the Build-Depends-Indep: line, merging it into the Build-Depends: line. This webpage says there is a way to seperate the archetecture only builds, but it is too complicated and would be difficult to maintain. Human time is more expensive than computer time. http://asylum.madhouse-project.org/blog/2012/01/26/buildd-workarounds/ I have tested the new version on found here: http://mentors.debian.net/package/libswe 0005-4 It builds with debuild, sbuild -A -d unstable sbuild --arch=i386 -d unstable So I believe I have finally fixed this one. -- Paul Elliott 1(512)837-1096 pelli...@blackpatchpanel.com PMB 181, 11900 Metric Blvd Suite J http://www.free.blackpatchpanel.com/pme/ Austin TX 78758-3117 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
Bug#659081: Taking binary from hackage or GHC?
Dear interested parties :-), GHC 7.4.1 started to ship and expose the binary library, version 0.5.0.3. On hackage is binary-0.5.1.0. In Debian, we try to provide one version of each library, so we have to decide: * Use the version provided by GHC and drop the independent binary package (as we have done with random, for example). * Do not expose binary in GHC and continue using the version from hackage. @Upstream: Do you think binary on hackage will diverge much from the one in GHC and would you expect your users to want the new versions before they are shipped with GHC? And do you expect breakage in any components (e.g. haddock) if everything but GHC uses a newer binary package? Bug#659081: Taking binary from hackage or GHC?
On 8 February 2012 10:24, Joachim Breitner nome...@debian.org wrote: Dear interested parties :-), GHC 7.4.1 started to ship and expose the binary library, version 0.5.0.3. On hackage is binary-0.5.1.0. It was firmly my opinion that shipping and exposing binary in GHC was and is a mistake. Previously it was given a different name to try to discourage people using it, but apparently that didn't work. The authors of binary (myself included) don't want to ship it yet as part of the Haskell Platform because the API isn't right yet (ongoing work), and shipping it with GHC effectively makes it part of the platform. In Debian, we try to provide one version of each library, so we have to decide: Yes, you're not put in an easy situation. Nor will we be when we come to packaging the next HP release. * Use the version provided by GHC and drop the independent binary package (as we have done with random, for example). * Do not expose binary in GHC and continue using the version from hackage. I'm not sure I have the whole answer, you'll also need a response from Ian. Eventually we will want to propose binary for the HP, but GHC may well still want to depend on binary and ship it. So it might end up as one of those HP libs that is shipped with GHC in the long term. @Upstream: Do you think binary on hackage will diverge much from the one in GHC and would you expect your users to want the new versions before they are shipped with GHC? No, it should not diverge much, GHC picks up the latest code from the upstream version occasionally. And do you expect breakage in any components (e.g. haddock) if everything but GHC uses a newer binary package? At some point, we will have a major version change and that will break the API and the binary format (we might even split the package in two). If they use similar versions but not the same, then probably the only thing to break would be haddock, since I'm guessing that it makes use of binary instances provided by the GHC package. But of course haddock is also shipped with GHC. Duncan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#659116: debian-installer: GRUB fails to be installed on machine with IDE and SATA disk
Package: debian-installer Version: 20110106+squeeze4 Severity: grave Tags: d-i Justification: renders package unusable I tried to re-install Debian/Testing on the same hard disk where it had been before. I installed from DVDs that I had made (jigdo) of the snapshot on 2012/02/06. I used the expert mode of the installer. Installation failed when it came to the point where GRUB had to be installed. I got an error message like GRUB could not be installed to /target. A subsequent boot of the machine stopped with a GRUB error message: - Stage 1.5 - Error 22 I noticed the following: My machine has 2 hard disk drives built in. One is an IDE drive, the other is a SATA drive. - The BIOS (Amibios, version 0226) says that the IDE disk is the first hard disk - Linux was installed on the IDE drive - GRUB was installed on the MBR of the IDE drive - The IDE disk was assigned to /dev/sda - The SATA disk was assigned to /dev/sdb Now during the installation process I noticed that the order of assignments was reversed: - The IDE disk was assigned to /dev/sdb - The SATA disk was assigned to /dev/sda Because I wanted the new system to reside on the same disk as before I installed it to /dev/sdb3. When the installation came to the point where GRUB had to be installed I was not asked where to install it. I *guess* that GRUB might have been installed on /dev/sda whereas the boot process still boots from the first disk (/dev/sdb) where it finds leftovers of the previous GRUB installation. -- System Information: Removed the system information because I am writing this report on a different, running system -- no debconf information syslog.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data partman.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data
Bug#658281: Bug#657949: Cannot install libhdf5-mpi-dev and libnetcdf-dev
Hi Francesco, Do you recommend that we build the next NetCDF from 4.1.1 or should we use the 4.1.3 from experimental as the base? Regards Alastair On 2012-02-07 13:17, Francesco P. Lovergine wrote: On Tue, Feb 07, 2012 at 09:28:00AM +, Alastair McKinstry wrote: On 2012-02-02 01:43, Steve M. Robbins wrote: Hi, I'd like to contribute towards a solution for this. I'm forwarding to debian-devel to get some others' ideas. Naively, I don't understand why netcdf can't offer multiple variants, just as hdf5 does. Or, at least, one package libnetcdf-mpi-dev that links with the default MPI implementation. I am not involved in the netcdf. You should report a bug on this package. I'm prepared to do so, but I'd first like to get agreement that netcdf is where the problem lies. Netcdf maintainers, please chime in! I think we can no longer live in the status quo (see all the blockers of #631019), so something has to give. Even if it is painful, perhaps Debian could pioneer something and pass patches back to upstream? Thoughts? -Steve As of now, I have several packages (eg ADIOS, CDO) that used to build against netcdf and libhdf5-mpi-dev that don't. Without fixes to netCDF (I appreciate what Francesco says about netcdf upstream not giving the libraries proper names), there needs to be a regression: either the packages build with netcdf but no MPI, or MPI but no netcdf. The problem is the following: with latest update to hdf5, the chain of dependencies changed, so that now libnetcdf6 depends on the pure serial version of hdf5, while the previous one depended on serial or parallel: Version: 1:4.1.1-6+b1 Depends: libc6 (= 2.7), libcurl3-gnutls (= 7.16.2), libgcc1 (= 1:4.1.1), libgfortran3 (= 4.3), libhdf5-7 (= 1.8.7), libquadmath0 (= 4.6), libstdc++6 (= 4.4.0) Version: 1:4.1.1-6 Depends: libc6 (= 2.7), libcurl3-gnutls (= 7.16.2-1), libgcc1 (= 1:4.1.1), libgfortran3 (= 4.3), libhdf5-serial-1.8.4 | libhdf5-1.8.4, libquadmath0 (= 4.6), libstdc++6 (= 4.4.0) So at least at packaging level, that should be fixed to follow the previous criteria. That said, indeed NetCDF provides nc_create_par and nc_open_par in both serial and parallel versions, but needs to be built with --enable-parallel to take advantage of parallel I/O in HDF5, else it works in pure serial mode. -- Alastair McKinstry , alast...@sceal.ie , mckins...@debian.org http://blog.sceal.ie Anyone who believes exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist - Kenneth Boulter, Economist. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#659104: X programs hanging in busy loop on kfreebsd
Hi again! Christoph Egger christ...@debian.org writes: Since the recent libxcb update (1.7-4 - 1.8-1) I can't start a single X application (they all hang in a busy loop and don't display anything). I noticed, that after the upgrad I was still able to spawn a new window from urxvtd but not any new program (probably urxvtcd still having loaded the old version). Bug#652770: cimg: FTBFS: dist.h:82:7: error: expected identifier before numeric constant
Hi David, thanks for the preliminary information. Just keep me informed once you released the new version. Kind regards Andreas. On Wed, Feb 08, 2012 at 08:28:47PM +0100, David Tschumperlé wrote: Dear Andreas, Someone else reported this bug on the G'MIC forum, and I had some time to look at the issue today. The problem is *not* a bug from OpenCV (nor CImg by the way :)). The problem comes from the fact that one of the X11 include files defines the macros 'False' and 'True' to respectively '0' and '1', and that the OpenCV include file defines (empty) classes named 'True' and 'False'. So, there is a clear incompatibility when using the two headers at the same time (which is what CImg does of course). I found a quick hack for a work-around (basically by replacing all 'False' and 'True' expressions in CImg.h by their hard-coded values '0' and '1', and #undef True and False when OpenCV headers are required). So now, I can say the bug is corrected in upcoming 1.5.0 version of the CImg Library. Best Regards, David. 2011/12/29 Andreas Tille andr...@an3as.eu Hi David, I keep the bug report in CC and thus full quote your mail to leave some note there. Please ping me in case I might miss your release to make sure we can close the bug soonish. Kind regards and for sure a happy new year 2012 as well Andreas. On Thu, Dec 29, 2011 at 01:03:51PM +0100, David Tschumperlé wrote: Dear Andreas, Thanks for the report. It seems to me that the bug comes from OpenCV instead. I don't think this is really an issue, since I will release the next CImg version in few weeks (hopefully!), and it compiles fine with latest packages of OpenCV installed (I'm using the latest Ubuntu). So this looks like a toolchain issue on kbsd. We would appreciate if the kbsd porters could have a look.
