Bug#668039: closed by Guido Günther a...@sigxcpu.org (Re: Bug#668039: iceowl: Upgrade to latest sid makes all calendar data unavailable)
Thanks, I didn't realize standalone iceowl had been removed from Debian. I successfully switched to iceowl-extension. In order to do that, I had to install iceowl and the older version of calendar-timezones, export the calendars, then install iceowl-extension and the newer version of calendar-timezones and import the calendars. This is not something I would think a typical user would be capable of doing. I expect some users will be surprised when they upgrade to the next Debian release and they have no way to retrieve any of their iceowl calendar data. It would be nice if there were some way to alert them to export their calendars before calendar-timezones is upgraded and makes iceowl unusable. Maybe a transitional iceowl package with a pre-conf step that just gives them the choice to either quit so they can export their calendars, or continue? Hence, I'm filing this at RC severity, feel free to downgrade if you cannot reproduce the problem. I think I've found something. This bug seems to happen only if if you use libpam-systemd. Is there a kfreebsd-i386 box you could try this on? Couldn't find one, yet. At http://db.debian.org/machines.cgi, there is io.debian.net listed as kfreebsd-i386 (like asdfasdf for amd64). Unfortunately, my Debian SSH pubkey login doesn't work there (in contrast to asdfasdf). Any idea, why? kFreeBSD has some threading-related issues running the Python test suite (#654783), but those are always reproducible, and affect both kfreebsd-amd64 and kfreebsd-i386. I hadn't seen that, thanks. However, I consider it an iceowl issue rather than an iceowl-extension issue since a user may want to switch to some other stand alone calendar program rather than to iceowl-extension. In that case, he would need to export the iceowl calendars to a standard format so that it could be imported to the other program. On 04/10/2012 07:55 AM, Olivier Berger wrote: Hi. Bug#660206: [debian-mysql] Bug#660206: This is a regression
On Mon, 09 Apr 2012 10:21:08 -0700, Clint Byrum cl...@fewbar.com wrote: Excerpts from micah anderson's message of Sun Apr 08 10:13:40 -0700 2012: severity 660206 serious thanks This is actually a regression, the only way to get things to work again is to downgrade package like such: apt-get install mysql-server-5.1=5.1.49-3 mysql-client-5.1=5.1.49-3 mysql-common=5.1.49-3 mysql-server-core-5.1=5.1.49-3 libmysqlclient16=5.1.49-3 micah So, I'm not sure I agree that this is such a serious regression. I would agree that this is not a *very* serious regression, but its a regression nonetheless. In my opinon an un intenteded regression is not suitable for release as a security upload and should be replaced as soon as a fix becomes available. *lenny* shipped with rails 2.1.0. 1.2.6 was released in 2007, and is not supported in Debian at all. The referenced upstream bug talks about using client versions older than 4.1, which is basically ancient. I agree. However, the reality is that the security upgrade brought in unrelated changes to the security upgrade and caused unrelated software to break. I'm not disputing that this is a regression introduced by the upstream jump to 5.1.61, but I don't know that its worth downgrading and losing security updates for. Perhaps the client libraries should be updated to something that is still supported by upstream and/or Debian. The two choices here are to either downgrade mysql, or to upgrade client libraries. While it seems sensible to upgrade client libraries to a newer supported version, one should not have to do that because of a security upgrade of another package. That option takes you from the realm of routine security maintainence into the much more serious realm of migrating completely other software to new client libraries that would require a significant architecture overhaul (I dont know how much you know about rails, but the difference between 2.1 and 2.2 is not a trivial minor release, but typically involves almost a complete rewrite). During a maintainence window, when you are expecting to only do an isolated security upgrade of a package, the last thing the sysadmin who is performing the upgrade is going to do is to re-write some other code to deal with a surprise regression in the security package. So while I do agree with you that the 'right' thing to do is to get the software updated to newer client libraries, rather than to have exposed security holes, the reality is that until that can happen (and in one case that I am dealing with, that re-write is in progress, but is 6 months out) I would hope that stable-security or a stable update would include a fix to this regression, when it comes available. micah -- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. What has changed in 3+b1 and why do you think it is a subcommander issue? +b1 was a rebuild against boost 1.49, as the build logs I linked from my report indicate. The fact that the package built okay previously doesn't necessarily imply that it will continue to do so in the face of new compiler or dependent library versions. Sometimes a failure in a later rebuild is an issue in the compiler or library, sometimes it's a bug in the package that has only been exposed by the rebuild; when not sure, filing the bug against the package which no longer builds and trusting the maintainer to re-assign if appropriate seems like the most sensible strategy imho. On 2012-04-09 22:07 +0200, Michael Biebl wrote: This bug seems to happen only if if you use libpam-systemd. Certainly, disabling libpam-systemd helped (thanks for the tip, BTW). The reason why I didn't encounter this myself is because I've added pam_loginuid.so to my login and gdm3* pam config locally. Could you please update the pam configuration of login and/or the login manager you are using and include pam_loginuid *before* @include common-session. In my case I've changed /etc/pam.d/login and /etc/pam.d/gdm3* and added a line session requiredpam_loginuid.so just before @include common-session I'm interested to know if that fixes the problem for you, too. For some reason, no cabal-install-0.14 has been uploaded to Hackage. Hi Joachim, There will be a new release in the next couple weeks, in time for the next major Haskell Platform release. However, the reality is that the security upgrade brought in unrelated changes to the security upgrade and caused unrelated software to break. If somebody wants to produce a patch that fixes this problem, I'd be happy to help get it out to affected users in a subsequent update. But I don't really have the resources to triage and fix this individual issue, and upstream doesn't seem interested in fixing it, so I don't think there's much we can do. I would encourage you to participate in the discussions that are sure to happen in the coming weeks around whether or not it is still appropriate to ship MySQL to Debian users given these problems, and around alternative databases that will continue to provide full disclosure of security vulnerabilities. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. If this happens again, I'll probably stop running it on kfreebsd-amd64. Closing the bug, I'll remove the testsuite if it keeps failing randomly. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 665947: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=665947 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems ---BeginMessage--- Package: texlive-base Version: 2011.20120322-1 Severity: important In the first version of the libpaper code, texconfig was patched to use ucf for pdftexconfig.tex, config.ps, XDvi and dvipdfmx.cfg. When we switched to TL 2011/12, I got the impression that, due to the new default to read configuration files everywhere, we wouldn't need _and_install_ those files below /etc/texmf any more. I understood that they would only be created locally when calling tl-paper. However, they are still installed by ucf, giving rise to spurious warnings (I got a whitespace change) and probably more problems. I also think that when those files are generated by tl-paper, they should _only_ contain papersize settings and nothing else, to make it manageable. Or in fact we need to use ucf in tl-paper, which would mean to patch the Perl modules in /usr/share/texlive/tlpkg/TeXLive/. Regards, Frank -- Package-specific info: If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries (latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the error in your report. Please run your example with (pdf)latex -recorder ... (or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in your home directory. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures! If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem), you can probably minimize it further. Bug#665876: not using html as source
On Tue, Apr 10, 2012 at 11:35:33AM -0500, Frank Loeffler wrote: Hi, What about parsing http://http.us.debian.org/debian/README.mirrors.txt for information about Debian mirrors instead of the HTML page? It didn't occur to me, but I'm not sure that parsing that text file is going to be easier than parsing the HTML page and, in the end, it might still be brittle since the format (spacing, column ordering, etc.) might change in the future. The best alternative would be to have a machine-parseable (i.e. XML file) with all the mirrors information. In any case, if you can work on a patch for it I could take a look :) Regards Javier signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#665876: merge - but still affecting squeeze
On Tue, Apr 10, 2012 at 11:26:55AM -0500, Frank Loeffler wrote: Hi This is most likely a cause of #667985, which has been fixed in sid. Yes, I've tested this in a Squeeze chroot and the behaviour in Squeeze generates the error message that was reported. The version in Squeeze is actually very brittle. I should backport the version in unstable to backports and encourage users running stable to use that one instead as many enhancements have been introduced in the latest versions. However, a similar bug also affects stable and can be fixed using a similar simple patch: - m@br'$SEARCH':.*a href=('$PROTO'://.*?)@i + m@br'$SEARCH':.*a.*?href=('$PROTO'://.*?)@i I will prepare the fix and submit it to the Release Team, if they approve I will do an upload to stable. I am considering uploading a version that reverts the change for #665393 (Provide 'debian' version symlink for Maven artifacts) until we get all of the ramifications the libservlet2.4 - 2.5 upgrade ironed out. I'm questioning whether we might need to create a transitional libservlet2.4-java package (without the debian symlink for the maven artifacts) to provide a smooth upgrade path. Thoughts from the team regarding either of those ideas? +1 for transitional libservlet2.4-java package.
