Package: cups
Version: 1.5.2-8
Severity: serious

libtiff-dev still points at libtiff4 for a reason. Namely not breaking
partial upgrades from squeeze. Please don't build cups against
libtiff5 until after wheezy unless there's a very compelling reason to
do otherwise.

Cheers,
Julien

None of the changes from 2.1.2-1 to 2.1.2-2 should affect these tests, so
that's actually 2 successful builds out of 5. On some architectures the
testsuite is unreliable. If this happens again, I'll probably stop
running it on kfreebsd-amd64.

Package: ibus-table-jyutping

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

I installed the package and try to type something. I typed the input string
dei and only 1 character appears in the selection box. I checked the source
code and found that there are 3 characters coded dei. This makes the input
method unusable.

My guess: you did not provide a password to PostgreSQL, and it wants
one. Or you use the wrong user. In menu edit / database / properties,
check password required and/or correct the user. Click test
 connection, give correct password.

Does connecting with the psql command-line tool work? With which
command-line exactly, are any of PGPORT, PGDATABASE, PGHOST, PGUSER
 environment variables set?

Now is Apr. 10. Ping?

8in other news, the 3.4.5-2 against what this was reported in the
meanwhile got superseded by both 3.4.6 and 3.5.2.. The latter one
contains many pqsdbc fixes)

Thorsten: does it still happen for you with that old version and/or
a new one? Can you reply to Lionel? Or should I just close this?

Bug#619263: More info

I got the same problem a few minutes ago and it got solved by upgrading from

Which might just be by chance. RuntimeException can be so much...

But if it's really a config dir permission issue, that it now works
is normal, given the config file löocation changes to ~/.config/libreoffice
and thus all the old stuff gets migrated. (And the new profile is correct).

Ariel, do you still have that bug with recent versions? (Test with sid
preferred for the above reason, 3.4.6-2 in testing should have the old
config dir iirc)

Rene

Bug#668039: closed by Guido Günther a...@sigxcpu.org (Re: Bug#668039: iceowl: Upgrade to latest sid makes all calendar data unavailable)

2012-04-10 Thread Neil Roeth
Thanks, I didn't realize standalone iceowl had been removed from
Debian. I successfully switched to iceowl-extension. In order to do
that, I had to install iceowl and the older version of
calendar-timezones, export the calendars, then install iceowl-extension
and the newer version of calendar-timezones and import the calendars.
This is not something I would think a typical user would be capable of
doing. I expect some users will be surprised when they upgrade to the
next Debian release and they have no way to retrieve any of their iceowl
calendar data. It would be nice if there were some way to alert them to
export their calendars before calendar-timezones is upgraded and makes
iceowl unusable. Maybe a transitional iceowl package with a pre-conf
step that just gives them the choice to either quit so they can export
their calendars, or continue?

 I think I've found something.

This bug seems to happen only if if you use libpam-systemd.

The reason why I didn't encounter this myself is because I've added
pam_loginuid.so to my login and gdm3* pam config locally.

Could you please update the pam configuration of login and/or the login
manager you are using and include pam_loginuid *before* @include
common-session. In my case I've changed /etc/pam.d/login and
 /etc/pam.d/gdm3* and added a line
  session requiredpam_loginuid.so
 just before
  @include common-session

I'm interested to know if that fixes the problem for you, too.

 Cheers,

I added pam_loginuid.so to common-session-noninteractive before
pam_systemd.so and it appears to work around the bug.

Any hint how we can reproduce the issue?

Upstream old me that they also had issues like this in the past, but
only sporadic, and they also suspect python and waf.

What python version are you using? On asdfasdf, there is:

I have the same Python version, on GNU/kFreeBSD kfreebsd-i386 8.3-0-686.
I saw this issue happen 3 out of 3 times in the same way.

kFreeBSD has some threading-related issues running the Python test suite

At http://db.debian.org/machines.cgi, there is io.debian.net listed as

Hi,

glib 2.32 will be part of the upcoming GNOME 3.4 release.

Development releases of glib 2.32 are available in experimental.
During a test-rebuild gsmartcontrol failed to build with the new glib.
You can find the full build log at [1].

Please update gsmartcontrol at your earliest convenience, so once we move
the glib version from experimental to unstable, your package will remain
buildable.

Thanks!

It is running, there is just no output from:
netstat -an | grep [\.\:] | grep LISTEN

In fact netstat -an shows me no IP sockets at all (freebsd-net-utils

If I replace netstat -an with echo notreally:$PORT LISTEN the
testsuite completes without error and the package finishes building.

Is there an issue with adding it to common-session ? I saw you told to

I hadn't seen that, thanks. However, I consider it an iceowl issue
rather than an iceowl-extension issue since a user may want to switch to
some other stand alone calendar program rather than to
iceowl-extension. In that case, he would need to export the iceowl
calendars to a standard format so that it could be imported to the other
program.

user would be capable of doing. I expect some users will be
surprised when they upgrade to the next Debian release and they have
no way to retrieve any of their iceowl calendar data. It would be
nice if there were some way to alert them to export their calendars
before calendar-timezones is upgraded and makes iceowl unusable.
Maybe a transitional iceowl package with a pre-conf step that just
gives them the choice to either quit so they can export their
calendars, or continue?

You may also see #655703 which deals with that very same issue.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

2012-04-10 Thread Tyler Smith
Package: mkgmapgui

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

On running mkgmapgui from the command line, I get the following error:

Looking at mkgmapgui.sh, it looks like the directory where my jvm is
installed (from the openjdk-6-jre package) is not listed.

Manually adding /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-i386/bin/java to
JAVA_CMDS in mkgmapgui.sh appears to fix the problem.

I have plain added it to common-session and

Is there an issue with adding it to common-session ? I saw you told to

 without a working sudo ?

 BR,

Ah, I see what I did wrong now. I added it to /etc/pam.d/login and
indeed sudo now seems to work 100% of the time. The couple of tests I
performed earlier having added it
to /etc/pam.d/common-session-noninteractive only succeeded by chance.

Anyway, I'm very suspicious that sudo still works *sometimes* without
pam_loginuid.so and caution against papering over this bug, even if the
various owners of /etc/pam.d/{login,*dm,sshd} and so on can be persauded
to add pam_loginuid.so.

Bug#660206: [debian-mysql] Bug#660206: This is a regression

 Excerpts from micah anderson's message of Sun Apr 08 10:13:40 -0700 2012:

This is actually a regression, the only way to get things to work again
is to downgrade package like such:

  apt-get install mysql-server-5.1=5.1.49-3 mysql-client-5.1=5.1.49-3
  mysql-common=5.1.49-3 mysql-server-core-5.1=5.1.49-3
  libmysqlclient16=5.1.49-3

  micah

So, I'm not sure I agree that this is such a serious
 regression.

I would agree that this is not a *very* serious regression, but its a
regression nonetheless. In my opinon an un intenteded regression is not
suitable for release as a security upload and should be replaced as soon
as a fix becomes available.

*lenny* shipped with rails 2.1.0. 1.2.6 was released in 2007, and is
not supported in Debian at all. The referenced upstream bug talks about
using client versions older than 4.1, which is basically ancient.

I agree. However, the reality is that the security upgrade brought in
unrelated changes to the security upgrade and caused unrelated software
to break.

I'm not disputing that this is a regression introduced by the upstream
jump to 5.1.61, but I don't know that its worth downgrading and losing
security updates for. Perhaps the client libraries should be updated to
something that is still supported by upstream and/or Debian.

The two choices here are to either downgrade mysql, or to upgrade client
libraries. While it seems sensible to upgrade client libraries to a
newer supported version, one should not have to do that because of a
security upgrade of another package. That option takes you from the
realm of routine security maintainence into the much more serious realm
of migrating completely other software to new client libraries that
would require a significant architecture overhaul (I dont know how much
you know about rails, but the difference between 2.1 and 2.2 is not a
trivial minor release, but typically involves almost a complete
rewrite). During a maintainence window, when you are expecting to only
do an isolated security upgrade of a package, the last thing the
sysadmin who is performing the upgrade is going to do is to re-write
some other code to deal with a surprise regression in the security
package.

So while I do agree with you that the 'right' thing to do is to get the
software updated to newer client libraries, rather than to have exposed
security holes, the reality is that until that can happen (and in one
case that I am dealing with, that re-write is in progress, but is 6
months out) I would hope that stable-security or a stable update would
include a fix to this regression, when it comes available.

With that the build behaves differently depending on what automake
version is installed.

An example is if a package for the official Debian backports
gets built with latest debhelper but automake from stable, and
packages from the official Debian backports might suddenly start
shipping info dir files.

Please add a Breaks: automake ( 1.11.2) to debhelper to ensure

What has changed in 3+b1 and why do you think it is a subcommander issue?

+b1 was a rebuild against boost 1.49, as the build logs I linked from my
report indicate.

The fact that the package built okay previously doesn't necessarily
imply that it will continue to do so in the face of new compiler or
dependent library versions. Sometimes a failure in a later rebuild is
an issue in the compiler or library, sometimes it's a bug in the package
that has only been exposed by the rebuild; when not sure, filing the bug
against the package which no longer builds and trusting the maintainer
to re-assign if appropriate seems like the most sensible strategy imho.

Bug#667470: systemd: breaks sudo

On 2012-04-09 22:07 +0200, Michael Biebl wrote:

This bug seems to happen only if if you use libpam-systemd.

Certainly, disabling libpam-systemd helped (thanks for the tip, BTW).

The reason why I didn't encounter this myself is because I've added
pam_loginuid.so to my login and gdm3* pam config locally.

Could you please update the pam configuration of login and/or the login
manager you are using and include pam_loginuid *before* @include
common-session. In my case I've changed /etc/pam.d/login and
 /etc/pam.d/gdm3* and added a line
  session requiredpam_loginuid.so
 just before
  @include common-session

I'm interested to know if that fixes the problem for you, too.

Tested with login, and it does indeed help.

Cheers,

Bug#666359: cabal-install

[Yeah, that is annoying. I'm open to other suggestions but we used to
have major spam problems before we made it subscriber only.]

 Dear Cabal developers,

I just noticed debian bug #666359: The current cabal-install in Debian
(0.10.2) cannot be build at the moment and we should upgrade to a
version compatible with the Cabal shipped with GHC 7.4.1, i.e. 0.14 (?).
For some reason, no cabal-install-0.14 has been uploaded to Hackage.

Hi Joachim,

There will be a new release in the next couple weeks, in time for the
next major Haskell Platform release.

Duncan

 Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
 amd64.

This rebuild was done by building only architecture:any binary packages
(binary-arch target of debian/rules), and using a recent dpkg that uses the
 build-arch target if available.
Also, only the Build-Depends were installed, not the Build-Depends-Indep.

Hi Lucas,

I tried for some time to reproduce the problem, without success - I may
be missing something here.
apt-get source suricata + apt-get build-dep suricata = works

The only difference I have in the build-logs is that the dh_install line
does not mention the same directory (you have
debian/tmp/suricata-debian.yaml, while I get ./suricata-debian.yaml).

Any idea ?

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes

Right. We're stuck between a rock and a hard place. If somebody wants to
produce a patch that fixes this problem, I'd be happy to help get it out
to affected users in a subsequent update. But I don't really have the
resources to triage and fix this individual issue, and upstream doesn't
seem interested in fixing it, so I don't think there's much we can do.

I would encourage you to participate in the discussions that are sure to
happen in the coming weeks around whether or not it is still appropriate
to ship MySQL to Debian users given these problems, and around alternative
databases that will continue to provide full disclosure of security
vulnerabilities.

Package: liblapack3
Version: 3.4.0-1~exp2
Severity: serious
Justification: broken upgrade

Hi,

Just got a chance to try the upgraded liblapack3. Alas, the behavior
matches the fears described here [1]:

The Conflicts also seems insufficient, since it doesn't force other
packages such as libatlas3gf-base for which liblapack.so.3gf is still
the master link to be upgraded.

More precisely, I get

| Setting up liblapack3 (3.4.0-1~exp2) ...
| update-alternatives: warning: alternative /usr/lib/lapack/liblapack.so.3gf
(part of link group liblapack.so.3gf) doesn't exist. Removing from list of
alternatives.
| update-alternatives: error: alternative liblapack.so.3gf can't be slave of
liblapack.so.3: it is a master alternative.
| dpkg: error processing liblapack3 (--install):

And:

| # ls -l /etc/alternatives/liblapack.so.3gf
| lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 Feb 19 11:11 /etc/alternatives/liblapack.so.3gf -
/usr/lib/atlas-base/atlas/liblapack.so.3gf

Proposed strategy for fixing it:

Maybe a versioned Breaks against all
packages in squeeze providing liblapack.so.3gf would help, so the
 upgrade path would be:

   1. Unpack new versions of libraries providing liblapack.so.3gf
en masse. Preinst removes the old liblapack.so.3gf alternative.

   2. Configure new versions of libraries providing
  liblapack.so.3gf. Postinst adds the
  liblapack.so.3/liblapack.so.3gf link group.

Hope that helps,
Jonathan

Hello,

The inlined patch below solves the build problems for GNU/Hurd and GNU/kFreeBSD
by defining the _GNU_SOURCE macro also for these architectures.

Thanks!

Bug#668312: sysv-rc: hidden dotfile in /etc used as state file (/etc/init.d/.legacy-bootordering)

2012-04-10 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
Package: sysv-rc
Version: 2.88dsf-22.1
Severity: serious
Justification: FHS violation, does not respect local admin changes

sysv-rc uses /etc/init.d/.legacy-bootordering as a flag file, which is
essentially a state file to know whether to convert to new ordering or
not. It should live in /var/lib/sysv-rc or similar instead.

If this is meant to be a configuration file, it must not be recreated
after it's deleted. It should probably also not be a hidden file, since
there's no good reason for it.

I found adding pam_loginuid.so fixes the problem in all cases,
except obvously for already running user sessions.
I have plain added it to common-session and
 common-session-noninteractive.
Is there an issue with adding it to common-session ? I saw you told to
add it in gdm pam file but would not this let the login console sessions
 without a working sudo ?

unreliable test than a new bug.

None of the changes from 2.1.2-1 to 2.1.2-2 should affect these tests, so
that's actually 2 successful builds out of 5. On some architectures the
testsuite is unreliable. If this happens again, I'll probably stop
 running it on kfreebsd-amd64.

Closing the bug, I'll remove the testsuite if it keeps failing randomly.

Package: texlive-base
Version: 2011.20120322-1
Severity: important

In the first version of the libpaper code, texconfig was patched to use
ucf for pdftexconfig.tex, config.ps, XDvi and dvipdfmx.cfg.

When we switched to TL 2011/12, I got the impression that, due to the
new default to read configuration files everywhere, we wouldn't need
_and_install_ those files below /etc/texmf any more. I understood that
they would only be created locally when calling tl-paper.

However, they are still installed by ucf, giving rise to spurious
warnings (I got a whitespace change) and probably more problems.

I also think that when those files are generated by tl-paper, they
should _only_ contain papersize settings and nothing else, to make it
manageable. Or in fact we need to use ucf in tl-paper, which would mean
to patch the Perl modules in /usr/share/texlive/tlpkg/TeXLive/.

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report.

Please run your example with
(pdf)latex -recorder ...
(or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated
file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during
the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in
your home directory.

Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are
needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Bug#665876: not using html as source

 Hi,

 What about parsing http://http.us.debian.org/debian/README.mirrors.txt
for information about Debian mirrors instead of the HTML page?

It didn't occur to me, but I'm not sure that parsing that text file is going
to be easier than parsing the HTML page and, in the end, it might still be
brittle since the format (spacing, column ordering, etc.) might change in the
future.

The best alternative would be to have a machine-parseable (i.e. XML file)
with all the mirrors information.

In any case, if you can work on a patch for it I could take a look :)

Bug#665876: merge - but still affecting squeeze

Yes, I've tested this in a Squeeze chroot and the behaviour in Squeeze
generates the error message that was reported.

The version in Squeeze is actually very brittle. I should backport the
version in unstable to backports and encourage users running stable to use
that one instead as many enhancements have been introduced in the latest
versions.

However, a similar bug also affects stable and can be fixed using a
 similar simple patch:

 - m@br'$SEARCH':.*a href=('$PROTO'://.*?)@i
 + m@br'$SEARCH':.*a.*?href=('$PROTO'://.*?)@i

I will prepare the fix and submit it to the Release Team, if they approve I
will do an upload to stable.

+1 for transitional libservlet2.4-java package.

I guess it was to drastic to ask for libservlet2.4-java removal without
