Bug#555168: Unclear license situation for (e)glibc locales provided by you
Let's hope you can reach Neskie Manuel who is, IIRC, the author of many locales for Aboriginal languages of North America. It's quite some time since I heard from him, though (about 2 years). Quoting Helge Kreutzmann (deb...@helgefjell.de): Hello, you are listed as contact person/author of the following locale: shs_CA This locale comes with a statement % Distribution and use is free, also % for commercial purposes. Thus it does not allow modification; it is unclear, however, if this statement was meant as a license. As discussed in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=555168 this locale could strictly speaking not be part of Debian which would be a great loss. (Currently it is allowed pending investigation). To properly resolve this, I would like to ask you the following question: Would you be willing to relicense this locale to a proper license, e.g. (L)GPL v2 or higher or another free software license of your choice? If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact me (via the reply-to address set). Thanks for helping to resolve this! Bug#677191: Add watch: LP#789706
Just a quick note that Ubuntu Launchpad has a largish number of recent duplicates for this bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xemacs21/+bug/789706 xemacs21 has been stable (as in basically unmaintained in Ubuntu) for a long time, across several Ubuntu releases. This points to emacsen-common as the likely source for whatever exposes this, although it may well be that the root cause for the bug is in the xemacs21 packaging. #313511 looks similar, maybe the changes discussed there are actually relevant for this case? /* era */ -- If this were a real .signature, it would suck less. Bug#678845: svn-buildpackage: svn-inject fails with subversion 1.7
Hi Peter (2012.06.29_00:17:43_+0200) That is svn complaining because, apparently, it is run inside a directory that has been deleted. How would I reproduce your bug - how did you invoke svn-inject? I tried, and could not. And I can't find where svn-bp _would_ delete the cwd while it is still the cwd. Oh, whoops, meant to attach a complete log. The command was: svn-inject -o pycparser_2.07+dfsg-1.dsc svn+ssh://purcell/tmp/test It works with 1.6 and fails when I upgrade svn to 1.7. (Currently it is allowed pending investigation). To properly resolve this, I would like to ask you the following question: Would you be willing to relicense this locale to a proper license, e.g. (L)GPL v2 or higher or another free software license of your choice? As you see there is one special thing, my custom locale en_DE.UTF-8... but this is not so special as it seems,... it's merely the normal en_US local but with dates and some other stuff set to the metric / ISO formats. Reading more carefully http://bugs.debian.org/619367 I see that it points to http://bugs.debian.org/391778, where some symlinks are done at xemacs21-* postinst. May be those symlinks should be done in appropriate preinst if needed, so paths are available even if xemacs21* is not yet configured. I am thinking about a possible alternative, a dirty workaround from the emacsen-common side, make emacs-install and emacs-package-install skip byte compilation for xemacs21 if those symlinks are not set, warning about this. emacs-install should be called again from relevant xemacs21* postinsts, and this last must be done after symlinks are set. Did not look at emacs-install and emacs-package-install, nor sure how reasonable / rock solid/ easy is this. Also, I find this a bit weak regarding possible changes in xemacs21, but ... Bug#614907: Draft resolution for node+nodejs
On Thu, Jun 28, 2012 at 12:52:39PM -0700, Steve Langasek wrote: Sorry this is so long in coming. Here's the draft resolution for this issue, agreed at the last IRC meeting. I thought about including a statement censuring nodejs upstream for their unhelpful behavior around this issue, but we didn't actually discuss that at the IRC meeting so I don't know if there's a consensus and don't want to hold this up any further. Situations like the one in this bug really have no terribly satisfactory answer. Whatever we do (including nothing!), some users are likely to end up being inconvenienced. I don't know how much issuing a censure would achieve - we can say it all we like, and I might well agree, but if they were going to pay attention then my suspicion is that we wouldn't have had this problem in the first place! - but I think it would be useful to take this situation as an opportunity to remind the wider free software world about the importance of playing nicely with the command namespace in the hope of reducing future problems. If this were picked up by technical news outlets then it might actually be a vaguely useful thing to do. I understand why you didn't want to hold up your resolution text on anything along these lines. Still, we can quite reasonably vote on such a statement independently. I'd like to suggest a statement under §6.1.5 along the following lines: The Technical Committee notes that the namespace of executable commands on $PATH is a resource shared among everyone writing software for POSIX-compatible systems, and that the combinations of packages that users may choose to install on a given system can easily surprise the authors of those packages. The Committee advises anyone writing widely-deployed software to consider its command name carefully at an early stage. It is a good idea to search the web for your proposed name and try to ensure that it is unique. It is likely to be a bad idea to use excessively short names or common words. The conflict between LinuxNode and Node.js demonstrates that taking a little time early on can avoid a great deal of tedium later. The Committee furthermore reminds Debian Developers that they are in an excellent position to assist upstream authors with identifying and resolving conflicts at an early stage, and that they should do so as soon as possible rather than deferring the problem until later and thus entrenching the naming conflict. === Resolution === The Technical Committee reaffirms the importance of preventing namespace collisions for programs in the distribution, while recognizing that compatibility with upstreams and with previous Debian releases is also important and that sometimes an imperfect balance must be struck between these three goals. The Committee therefore resolves that: 1. The nodejs package shall be changed to provide /usr/bin/nodejs, not /usr/bin/node. The package should declare a Breaks: relationship with any packages in Debian that reference /usr/bin/node. For consistent tense, I think s/should/shall/. 2. The nodejs source package shall also provide a nodejs-legacy binary package at Priority: extra that contains /usr/bin/node as a symlink to /usr/bin/nodejs. No package in the archive may depend on or recommend the nodejs-legacy package, which is provided solely for upstream compatibility. This package declares shall also declare a Conflicts: relationship with the node package. Typo: probably just This package shall also declare. Also, my apologies if this has been discussed already as I'm coming to this discussion very late, but isn't this a fairly rough transition? If I were designing this, there would be a period whereby users of the existing nodejs binary package are upgraded to a system with both nodejs and nodejs-legacy, to minimise breakage. If this has been discussed already and refuted for some reason, feel free to point me at the messages I missed. 3. The node source package shall rename its binary to /usr/sbin/ax25-node, and its binary package to ax25-node. 4. The node source package shall continue to build a transitional 'node' binary package for compatibility with deployed Debian installations, which provides /usr/sbin/node as a symlink to /usr/sbin/ax25-node. This package shall declare a reciprocal Conflicts: relationship with the nodejs-legacy package. Other packages may reference the 'node' package as a dependency or recommendation, but are encouraged to transition to 'ax25-node'. By contrast, this is a much smoother transition. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The most likely cause is a problem with dpkg triggers which is fixed in dpkg version 1.16.4. See #675613 and its duplicates for further information. Please check your dpkg version. 1) If it is lower that 1.16.4, upgrade dpkg, run update-catalog --update-super. Your catalog should be fine now. 2) If it is at least 1.16.4, it was likely upgraded after the last trigger run. Run update-catalog --update-super. Your catalog should be fine now. If these steps do not resolve the problem, my conclusion was wrong and we need to further debug this. I had dpkg 1.16.3 at the time, so it looks like you are on the right track fixing this by requiring a newer dpkg. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. As there is no user input, this fails. But this is not the real problem, the real problem is that this prompt shows up in the first place, as there was nobody modifying this conffile at all, the package has just been installed and upgraded... This is a violation of policy 10.7.3, see http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.7.3, which says [These scripts handling conffiles] must not ask unnecessary questions (particularly during upgrades), and must otherwise be good citizens. http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling should help with figuring out how to do this properly. In http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00675.html and followups it has been agreed that these bugs are to be filed with severity serious. Bug#679526: Build-Depends on obsolete package ia32-libs-dev

Since your package still Build-Depends on ia32-libs-dev this means it will no longer build from source. Please multiarchify your package. That's easier said than done. This week I tried to install zsnes:i386 on amd64 and it failed, because one of its dependencies was not yet multiarchyfied. Bug#555168: Unclear license situation for (e)glibc locales provided by you
Bearjadat, geassemánu 29. b. 2012 07.03.15 Christian PERRIER čálii: I add to the CC list another mail address I know about Boerre Gaup. Also CC'ing Petter Reinholdtsen, ou Debian Wizard for everything related to Norway, in case he would have alternate ways to reach Boerre. Quoting Helge Kreutzmann (deb...@helgefjell.de): Hello, you are listed as contact person/author of the following locale: se_NO This locale comes with a statement % Distribution and use is free, also % for commercial purposes. (L)GPL v2 sounds quite all right by me. If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact me (via the reply-to address set). Thanks for helping to resolve this! Hi, On Fri, Jun 29, 2012 at 02:57:08PM +0200, Etienne Millon wrote: * Fabian Greffrath fab...@greffrath.com [120629 14:44]: That's easier said than done. This week I tried to install zsnes:i386 on amd64 and it failed, because one of its dependencies was not yet multiarchyfied. I am looking at you, libao! Hello, As far as zsnes is concerned, I will upload a package removing zsnes:amd64. Whether zsnes:i386 will be installable or not will then only depend on #638741. If zsnes really is i386-only, then that seems like the best answer to me. It's not really blocked on libao being converted - at least not in the sense that it will need further changes after it is, or can't change until it is. I only took over libao a few weeks ago, and I'm not really any more keen to relocate all its files on the eve of the freeze than I was to do that just a couple of weeks before it. I don't know if anybody else has done a proper audit of this to be sure there will be no problems with its plugins - a cursory glance seems to indicate they'll probably be ok, but I'm far from being certain enough about that to do a beat the freeze upload making this change. This one had gone on my worry about m-a for wheezy+1 list - when m-a itself is hopefully a little more settled and some of its intrinsic problems might actually have solutions. I might push one to experimental in the meantime if there is real call for it - but I think it's way too late to be experimenting with this in wheezy release candidates now. Bug#675495: downgrading the severity of #675495
severity 675495 important thanks security support for openjdk in debian has always been a bit flaky. packages in edgy were not updated anymore, and updates to squeeze come late. So the support from Oracle was/is not used by the security team even when the security updates from Oracle are available. Certainly the situation doesn't get better, if Oracle's support is limited to openjdk7 only, however there should be the possibility to backport the patches to openjdk6, which will get harder, the more the hotspot version diverges in newer openjdk7 builds. Now downgrading the severity to let the current, still supported openjdk update into testing. openjdk7 would be something nice to have, because it seems to build on kfreebsd as well (at least when building on a wheezy installation), but there are still some things not yet ported to 7. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Since your package still Build-Depends on ia32-libs-dev this means it will no longer build from source. Please multiarchify your package. That's easier said than done. This week I tried to install zsnes:i386 on amd64 and it failed, because one of its dependencies was not yet multiarchyfied. I am looking at you, libao! - Fabian As mentioned in the bug log for 638741 the zsnes package doesn't have to wait for libao4. It should only set M-A: foreign and drop the amd64 build. It will then be installable with libao4:i386 if libao4:amd64 isn't installed. Not ideal but ... As for libao4 and the multiarch patch in the BTS. I took a quick look at the patch and I consider that incomplete. As is it switches the plugin dir to the multiarch dir without providing backward compatibility. That means the patch breaks all plugins for libao4 and they all need to be multiarchified together with versioned Breaks and Depends. This is usualy not ideal. Better would be to have libao4 look in both the old plugin dir as well as the new plugin dir. That way plugins can be multiarchified over time. Other than that the patch looks fine. reopen 679063 thanks Hello, No, it won't. You need a Replaces, and probably Breaks, on old libmagickcore5 versions in libmagickcore5-extra. See Policy §7.6. The dependency only guarantees the order of configuration, not of unpacking. indeed, the dependency doesn't solve the problem since I tried to upgrade today -extra and the problem is still there. I think adding Breaks: libmagickcore5 ( 8:6.7.7.10-1) Replaces: libmagickcore5 ( 8:6.7.7.10-1) to libmagickcore5-extra would solve the problem (I didn't have time test it) and is also the right solution according to policy §7.6. Upgrade to 4.0.3 1. Log in to your web interface: http://my.site/owncloud/ 2. Create a new Directory BugTest 3. Click into the Directory 4. move some File(s) into this place 5. Click Tab Files EXPECTED OUTCOME: You can see just one directory BugTest ACTUAL OUTCOME: You can see this directory twice or more REPRODUCIBILITY: 8/10 (for me it happens everytime from update 4.0.2-4.0.3) Eventually you need to delete the Files in BugTest again to see the bug. Sometimes the number of Directories increases with every click on the Files tab. 4.0.2 without any upgrade is ok. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages owncloud depends on: ii libjs-jquery 1.7.2+debian-1 ii libjs-jquery-jplayer 2.1.0-1 ii libjs-jquery-ui 1.8.ooops.20+dfsg-1 ii libphp-phpmailer 5.1-1 ii lighttpd [httpd] 1.4.31-1 ii owncloud-sqlite 4.0.3debian-1 ii php-crypt-blowfish1.1.0~RC2-1 ii php-getid31.9.3-1 ii php-mdb2 2.5.0b3-2 ii php-mdb2-schema 0.8.5-1 ii php-pear 5.4.4-2 ii php-sabredav 1.6.2-3 ii php-xml-parser1.3.4-6 ii php5 5.4.4-2 ii php5-curl 5.4.4-2 ii php5-gd 5.4.4-2 Versions of packages owncloud recommends: ii exim4 4.80-3 ii exim4-daemon-heavy [mail-transport-agent] 4.80-3 owncloud suggests no packages. -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: owncloud Source-Version: 4.0.4debian-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of owncloud, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: owncloud-mysql_4.0.4debian-1_all.deb to main/o/owncloud/owncloud-mysql_4.0.4debian-1_all.deb owncloud-sqlite_4.0.4debian-1_all.deb to main/o/owncloud/owncloud-sqlite_4.0.4debian-1_all.deb owncloud_4.0.4debian-1.debian.tar.gz to main/o/owncloud/owncloud_4.0.4debian-1.debian.tar.gz owncloud_4.0.4debian-1.dsc to main/o/owncloud/owncloud_4.0.4debian-1.dsc owncloud_4.0.4debian-1_all.deb to main/o/owncloud/owncloud_4.0.4debian-1_all.deb owncloud_4.0.4debian.orig.tar.bz2 to main/o/owncloud/owncloud_4.0.4debian.orig.tar.bz2 A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
