Bug#655614: FWIW wheezy is released

2013-06-29 Thread Geert Stappers

Hello,

For what it's worth: Wheezy is released.

Please close this bugreport
so that package prepaid-manager-applet gets into Jessie.

And more important: that is worthwhile to sent in patches
about local operators not yet in the serviceproviders.xml

Come on…

 Hi. This bug do not only break power management, it also break the
 Debian Edu networked profiles in Wheezy, as they use the killer package
 to ensure left behind processes for not logged in users are killed
 regularly.

 When a user log in using lightdm, utmp do not show the logged in user as
 a logged in user, and all the session processes are automatically killed
 within the hour by killer.

 Can you please backport a fix for the version of lightdm in
 stable/Wheezy too? I notice it is fixed in testing and unstable
 already.

Stable and Testing/Unstable use very different version, I'm not really
sure it's really possible, but will have a look. It's low priority
though.

 Setting severity to critical, as this bug break unrelated software on
 the system. Having a release critical severity might also help to get a
 fix past the stable release managers.

Artificially inflating the severity won't achieve that, sorry. Having
support for utmp is nice to have indeed, but that's all. That makes it
incompatible with killer package, too bad. But it *doesnt* “breaks
unrelated software”. Actually someone could also just say killer breaks
unrelated software by killing innocent processes. In turns that makes
lightdm useless in Debian Edu, that's unfortunate, but that

So again, no need to inflate severity. We'll have a look at it, but
don't hold your breath.

Regards,

The code which causes the FTBFS is part of
/usr/include/pango-1.0/pango/pango-font.h and I'd suspect that this is
not an mssh-specific issue. (Then OTOH this should have caused quite
many FTBTS and I've found no according bug report against the pango1.0
source package. Maybe not much programs use -Wpedantic?)

Also grepping through the mssh source package code for
PANGO_GLYPH_INVALID_INPUT or PangoGlyph did not yield any result.

At least the -Wpedantic comes from mssh:

src/Makefile.am:AM_CFLAGS = -pedantic-errors -Werror -Wall -Wfatal-errors
-Wwrite-strings

Nevertheless I think that a library should not cause a FTBFS due to
this compiler flag.

In case you think, this is still an mssh fault, please explain and
help me to understand why.

Bug#712999: linux-image-3.9-1-amd64: Unable to find LVM volume

2013-06-29 Thread Gunther Furtado
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.113
Followup-For: Bug #712999

Dear Maintainer,

Many thanks for the job you all been doing! Great work!

I am writing because I've just upgraded initramfs-tools to 0.113 (jessie) and
it regenerated /boot/initrd.img-3.9-1-amd64 but the boot process got stuck in
the very same point as 0.112 did.

If you need any other info about my system or if you want me to try anything
else, please ask!

cheers,

Gunther

 make[3]: *** [mssh.o] Error 1

 The code which causes the FTBFS is part of
 /usr/include/pango-1.0/pango/pango-font.h and I'd suspect that this is
 not an mssh-specific issue. (Then OTOH this should have caused quite
 many FTBTS and I've found no according bug report against the pango1.0
 source package. Maybe not much programs use -Wpedantic?)

 Also grepping through the mssh source package code for
 PANGO_GLYPH_INVALID_INPUT or PangoGlyph did not yield any result.

 At least the -Wpedantic comes from mssh:

 src/Makefile.am:AM_CFLAGS = -pedantic-errors -Werror -Wall -Wfatal-errors
 -Wwrite-strings

 Nevertheless I think that a library should not cause a FTBFS due to
 this compiler flag.

 In case you think, this is still an mssh fault, please explain and
 help me to understand why.

Looks fixed upstream (change reverted):

Thanks for the prompt reply.

In the meanwhile I could confirm that removing the -Wpedantic (in
src/Makefile.am plus using dh-autoreconf) would fix the FTBFS of mssh.

In case your update takes a while, I could upload an mssh with a
workaround if wanted.

This was introduced by r199819 when FreeBSD 9 was the SVN head. As such
it affects 9.0 as well as 10.0 snapshots before today; I'm preparing a
backport from 9-STABLE.

Using -Werror in a package is bound to result in such failures.
So I would argue this is a bug in mssh.

Fwiw, it should be enough to set
export CFLAGS=-Wno-error
in debian/rules without having to patch Makefile.am

Admittedly only tested on git master, but the error appeared on its
own (with an {cow,p}builder --update in between). Notably, a new
version of binutils was uploaded recently and I suspect (without having
confirmed) that it is related.

augeas' Maintainer field is set to Ubuntu Developers
ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com which doesn't accept mail from
non-subscribers. It's very likely also wrong.

You should also use dpkg-buildpackage's -v option when uploading a
package that had several changelog entries since the last upload so that
bugs like #688347 get closed properly.

Bug#660803: oss-compat 3 problems with udev and breaks audio

2013-06-29 Thread Stephen Kitt
Hi Michael,

On Thu, 27 Jun 2013 21:22:25 +0200, Michael Hatzold m.hatz...@web.de
wrote:
 Am 27.06.2013, 20:21 Uhr, schrieb Stephen Kitt sk...@debian.org:
  Could you possibly try the following?
  * re-install oss-compat 3
  * reboot (with the timeout)
  * run
  sudo udevadm --debug trigger --verbose
to re-attempt to load the sound modules and trace what is attempted

 As root in a VT I did run:

 udevadm --debug trigger --verbose

 Output in attachement. If it's not what you wanted pls let me know what to
 do exactly.

Thanks, that is what I wanted although it's not enough to figure out the
problem - but Sven provided the missing info (thanks!).

If you don't mind, could you try the following workarounds?

The first is to drop the last softdep from oss-compat.conf (v3):

softdep snd-pcm post: snd-pcm-oss
softdep snd-mixer post: snd-mixer-oss

That's the workaround provided by Sven, so it should work just fine.

The second is to add a variant of the last softdep:

softdep snd-pcm post: snd-pcm-oss
softdep snd-mixer post: snd-mixer-oss
softdep snd-seq post: snd-seq-oss

This will help determine whether the initialisation lock-up is related to
loading snd-seq-midi... (Incidentally, the Debian kernels don't ship
snd-seq-oss.)

Thanks,

Stephen

Bug#714458: ghc-mod: Error:No entry for target has .ident directive in /usr/lib/ghc/settings

2013-06-29 Thread Paolo Inaudi
Package: ghc-mod
Version: 2.0.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

*** End of the template - remove these lines ***
Launching
ghc-mod check file.hs
produces the following output
Error:No entry for target has .ident directive in /usr/lib/ghc/settings

I've added the required entry, and also other two, at the end of the file. It
now looks like:

[(GCC extra via C opts, -fwrapv),
 (C compiler command, /usr/bin/gcc),
 (C compiler flags,  -fno-stack-protector  -Wl,--hash-size=31 -Wl,--reduce-
memory-overheads),
 (ar command, /usr/bin/ar),
 (ar flags, q),
 (ar supports at file, YES),
 (touch command, touch),
 (dllwrap command, /bin/false),
 (windres command, /bin/false),
 (perl command, /usr/bin/perl),
 (target os, OSLinux),
 (target arch, ArchX86),
 (target word size, 4),
 (target has GNU nonexec stack, True),
 (target has subsections via symbols, False),
 (target has .ident directive, True),
 (LLVM llc command,llc),
 (LLVM opt command,opt)
]

I've added the last three lines, due to followings requirements from ghc-mod.
now the above command reports

Bad interface file: /usr/lib/ghc/base-4.5.0.0/Prelude.himismatched
interface file versions (wanted 7063, got 7041)

And I cannot go on with patching since I don't understand the error anymore.

I was using ghc-mod with emacs

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
   * What led up to the situation?
mount my android phone with mtpfs-1.1, it will not show files in
folder that didn't have a subfolder.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
1. mount my phone to a folder: mtpfs -o rw /media/phone
2. open a terminal, cd to a folder with files but no subfolder,
and run ls, nothing will show.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
I can't found some files under the mount point.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Show all my files under the mount point.

Here's a patch for this bug. I've tested it, now it can show all my
files.

One thing need to mention, I'm using the latest libmtp at sourceforge,
because the version in debian cannot mount my phone.
But I think it won't make any difference to this bug.

Bug#714399: a7xpg: spaceship drifts to upper left corner of screen making gameplay impossible

Control: severity -1 normal
Control: tags -1 moreinfo unreproducible

Hello,

the game works fine here. I can move the ship around with my keyboard's
left and right keys and it is also possible to avoid other space ships
and to collect the pieces of gold.

That means your bug is not reproducible and i have downgraded the
severity accordingly.

Did you try to reproduce the issue at another computer? What was the
outcome?

your issue is not reproducible on my computer thus i have downgraded the

I can select the menu items and play the game.

Probably the issue is related to your touchpad or trackpad device and it
probably affects other applications and not only games.

Can you reproduce your issue on another computer? Do you have
experienced similar problems with other applications?

Bug#714411: openturns: FTBFS on {hurd,kfreebsd}-i386: tests hang

On 2013/6/29 Aaron M. Ucko wrote:
 Source: openturns

 Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

 The latest openturns builds for hurd-i386 and kfreebsd-i386 failed due
 to test suite timeouts, hitting cppcheck_TrapezoidalFactory_std on
 kFreeBSD and cppcheck_WhittleFactory_std on the Hurd (admittedly not a
 release architecture). Oddly, the essentially identical 1.1-3 release
 seems to have had no such trouble; perhaps a change to some build
 dependency triggered a latent bug.

 Could you please take a look?

Hello,

This looks similar to #666782, t_TrapezoidalFactory_std hangs in algocobyla.c.
Still investigating.

Bug#660803: oss-compat 3 problems with udev and breaks audio

 * re-install oss-compat 3
 * reboot (with the timeout)

As root in a VT I did run:

udevadm --debug trigger --verbose

Output in attachement. If it's not what you wanted pls let me know what
to

This version is working for me. No delay during boot and working sound
even with oss-depending software (wmmixer).

That's the workaround provided by Sven, so it should work just fine.

The second is to add a variant of the last softdep:

softdep snd-pcm post: snd-pcm-oss
softdep snd-mixer post: snd-mixer-oss
softdep snd-seq post: snd-seq-oss

Thisone is *not* working. Delay during boot an no sound.

This will help determine whether the initialisation lock-up is related to
loading snd-seq-midi... (Incidentally, the Debian kernels don't ship
snd-seq-oss.)

I don't use a Debian stock kernel, but a siduction kernel which is vanilla
plus whatever patches siduction applies.

In the hope of providing usefull info I attach:

lsmod | grep oss lsmod.grep_oss.workaround1 (workaround #1 config)
lsmod | grep oss lsmod.grep_oss.workaround2 (workaround #2 config)
strace.workaround2 ( strace -f modprobe snd-seq-oss with workaround #2
config)

If you need further testing, just let me know.

Thanks,

Michael

Thanks,

Stephen

Bug#714484: brasero: wrong size calculation

2013-06-29 Thread Adam Smutnicki
Package: brasero
Version: 3.8.0-1
Severity: serious
Tags: lfs
Justification: unknoen

Dear Maintainer,

Brasero wrongly calculates file size for burning. At least it is in case of big
files (4GB). I've tried to burn file of a size: 4508876000 B, which is ~4.2GB.
Unfortunately according to brasero it has size of 4.5GB. This results in
brasero not wanting to burn such file into standard dvd. This make brasero
unusable in such a case. I believe the bug is a result of simple error in
computing file size - division by 1000^3 instead of by 1024^3. I've check
another brasero instance, version 2.32.1 in FreeBSD, which calculates the same
file size as 4.2 GB and does not complain about files size preventing burning.

Hi,

grilo-plugins currently FTBFS on sparc due to a failing test-suite [1].
As I want to start the tracker 0.16 transition soon, it's important that
grilo-plugins builds on all plattforms.

Regards,
Michael

I dicussed this with upstream. We are aware of that but we believe the
problem is not in Grilo. We cannot debug it though because we don't
have a sparc machine available.

While we don't find the cause I guess we'll either disable that plugin
or the tests for sparc.

Doing some investigations, I could not find any explicit license for
NeHe tutorial, but found questions about it by other users, which have
been left without satistying answer. See e.g. [1, 2].

In this situation, I believe that the best move is to repack the archive
to get rid of these examples.

 The latest openturns builds for hurd-i386 and kfreebsd-i386 failed due
 to test suite timeouts, hitting cppcheck_TrapezoidalFactory_std on
 kFreeBSD and cppcheck_WhittleFactory_std on the Hurd (admittedly not a
 release architecture). Oddly, the essentially identical 1.1-3 release
 seems to have had no such trouble; perhaps a change to some build
 dependency triggered a latent bug.

 Could you please take a look?

 Hello,

 This looks similar to #666782, t_TrapezoidalFactory_std hangs in algocobyla.c.
 Still investigating.

Tests do no more hang when compiling algocobyla.c with -fno-caller-saves.

Bug#714494: ed: MUST (as in RFC2119) be moved back to /bin

2013-06-29 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Source: ed
Version: 1.9-1
Severity: grave
Justification: FHS violation and breaks software

tl;dr: FHS says that *if* ed(1) is installed, it MUST
either be installed as /bin/ed or be reachable at that
location as symlink.

https://www.mirbsd.org/mksh_old.htm#editor refers to:
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#SPECIFICOPTIONS2

   The following programs, or symbolic links to programs, must be in
   /bin if the corresponding subsystem is installed:

   CommandDescription
   csh The C shell (optional)
   ed  The `ed' editor (optional)
   tar The tar archiving utility (optional)
[…]

While it’s a bit sad that ed(1) is not required, this makes
it clear that programs *can* assume that ed is reachable as
/bin/ed if installed (and a Depends will take care of that)
and so *will* assume that.

Please either, preferably, move ed back to /bin where it
belongs so I can repair /usr-less systems or, at least,
put there a symlink so that FHS compliance is restored.

bye,
//mirabilos
PS: offline till Sunday evening, at least; I just happened
to see this in my INBOX before sleep

---BeginMessage---
Package: check
Version: 0.9.10-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

check currently does not work on kfreebsd-amd64. Consider the following
example:

$ cat check.c
#include check.h

START_TEST(test) {
} END_TEST
START_TEST(test2) {
} END_TEST
START_TEST(test3) {
} END_TEST

int main()
{
  Suite* s = suite_create(test);
  TCase* tc_core = tcase_create(test);
  tcase_add_test(tc_core, test);
  tcase_add_test(tc_core, test2);
  tcase_add_test(tc_core, test3);
  suite_add_tcase(s, tc_core);
  SRunner* sr = srunner_create(s);
  srunner_run_all(sr, CK_NORMAL);
  srunner_free(sr);
  return 0;
}

Now compile and run it:

$ gcc check.c $(pkg-config --cflags check) $(pkg-config --libs check) -pthread
$ ./a.out
Running suite(s): test
Segmentation fault

gdb gives me the following back trace:

#0  __pthread_fork (b=0x801239a60 __fork_block) at ptfork.c:72
#1  0x00403dfd in srunner_run ()
#2  0x00401981 in main ()

One test case is not enough to trigger the segfault. Setting CK_FORK=no makes
the segfault disappear. Since the default is broken and, according to the
documentation, CK_FORK=no is there for debugging purposes, I consider
check unusable and thus the severity.

Bug#710140: fix or ask release team?

2013-06-29 Thread kardan
 apt-listbugs alerted me to this bug when I attempted to upgrade from
 1.2.0-1.4. I can't tell from the information provided: if I upgrade to
 an affected version, should I expect things on my system to break?

I pinned the package, subscribed the bug and think it's good to have
some traffic in here. (Which of course will not fix the problem)
With a bit of luck, someone with knowledge tells ushow a proper solution
would look like.

Maybe this is useful, anyway there is a lot to read and learn:
* http://kernel-handbook.alioth.debian.org/ch-versions.html
* http://ispras.linuxbase.org/index.php/ABI_compliance_checker
* http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/ReleaseTeam/Transitions
* http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/ReleaseTeam

 Abi compliance checker
 http://ispras.linux-foundation.org/index.php/ABI_compliance_checker
 abi-compliance-checker can be used to help reduce the possibility of
 an application crashing when the shared libraries it links against
 have changed. Signatures and data type definitions from two separate
 versions of a library are compared by examining the shared objects
 (.so) files themselves, and by analysing the header files (.h)
 provided for the two versions of the library and their dependencies.
 Shared library developers trying to strive for binary compatibility
 between releases may also use this tool to detect if an any
 accidental application binary interface (ABI) changes have been
 introduced. The checker may also be used for assessing binary
 compatibility between different Linux distributions.

 http://wiki.debian.org/ReleaseTeamOverloaded
I think that part of the problem is that we're leaning on the release
team to make hard decisions that we should be capable of making
ourselves. -- JoeyHess

Read debian-release, you'll frequently see developers:
* Say: can this random change get into sarge?
* Trying to get in a change without thinking it through.
* It's also annoyingly common for maintainers to upload a fix that
really needs to get into sarge with other nonessential changes that
increase the probability a bug will be introduced
* Upload something such as a security fix with a priority that's too low
* Package a new upstream version of a library in a way that it holds
lots of other things out of sarge.

All of these are responsible for a lot of the load on the release team.
All can be avoided by maintainers thinking through the conseqences. --

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
amd64.

Maybe you need to add explicitly the offending lib to LD flags.

Dear Maintainer,

googletest 1.6 and earlier has GEST_COMPILE_ASSERT_ that triggers
unused-local-typedef warnings with GCC 4.8. These are fatal for all
users of -Werror e.g. aptitude.

Attached patch is part of an upstream commit and does allow aptitude
to build ok (after patching for aptitudes own issues). Please apply.
