Bug#706877: insserv: breaks dist-upgrade by installing before packages fix their init scripts
[Jamin W. Collins] It may be bogus or incomplete boot script ordering information, but it previously worked, keep that in mind. One does not expect a Debian dist-upgrade from one stable release to another to result in a non-functional system. Sure. But the fact that the ordering was not broken when the dependencies was ignored do not really matter much. 'ignoring ordering loops' is another way to say 'generate incorrect boot sequence', which might result in a non-bootable system. So there is no safe way to continue when the boot ordering can not be trusted, and update-rc.d refuse to upgrade more packages when this happen as a safe-guard against silently breaking the boot (which would only be discovered the next time the machine is booted, instead of when the upgrade happen). The former effectively left me locked out of my systems. I had to reboot every one of them to a single user root session to fix them as my user existed only in LDAP and then unrelated init scripts caused the upgrade to abort in such a way that my user could no longer be validated for sudo. Had the upgrade proceeded, the system would have been in complete working order (AFAICT). Did you run 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade', and was unable to run a new sudo command when the upgrade failed? Perhaps a safer approach is to use 'sudo -i' and then run 'apt-get dist-upgrade' with a root shell to make sure you can recover when something go wrong? Anyway, I am positive to try to figure out way to avoid breaking systems where upgrading packages in a different order would work, but do not know which packages have incorrect dependencies in earlier versions leading to dependency loops and thus do not know how to do it. :) -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#726890: modules: doesn't build on buildds
Package: modules Version: 3.2.10-4 Severity: serious Hi, The latest upload of modules doesn't build on the buildds. The build-dependency on tcl-dev | tcl8.6-dev cannot be satisfied, because the buildds only use the first build-dependency, and tcl-dev in unstable is currently tcl8.5-dev, which modules has a build-conflicts for. You'll need to change this build-dependency back to just 'tcl8.6-dev'. Cheers, Ivo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The default ruby version since Wheezy is 1.9.3. But even with installing the ruby1.8 package and calling ruby1.8 /usr/bin/glark does not help. The only thing which helps so far is installing ruby1.8 (but glark's dependency unconditionally pulls in ruby 1.9.x) and then letting /usr/bin/ruby point to ruby1.8 by running update-alternatives --config ruby. But that's just a short-term solution since ruby1.8 seems scheduled for removal: http://release.debian.org/transitions/html/ruby1.8-removal.html IMHO this bug should also be fixed in Wheezy as glark does not work on Wheezy without changing the default ruby version and that's completely up to the local administrator and no package must depend on that decision. Intermediately, this fix should also work for Jessie and Sid, but only until Ruby 1.8 is removed. Bug#726487: frei0r build can't find opencv
Control: tag -1 pending Rebecca N. Palmer r.pal...@bham.ac.uk (2013-10-16): frie0r's build process can't find opencv, probably because it depends on libcv-dev and the .pc files are now (since 2.3.1-9) in libopencv-dev. The build succeeds as using opencv is optional, but I don't know how much functionality this disables (feel free to adjust the severity as appropriate). It worked on my system because I do have libopencv-dev installed, which suggests that adding that as a build-dep would fix the problem, but I don't have time right now to test that properly. That's indeed the case, thanks for the report and the patch. I've added a little check to make sure both opencv and gavl support is enabled, to make it possible to catch such regressions automatically. The plugins package gains a bunch of opencv binaries in Depends accordingly. Unfortunately, this causes radiance to FTBFS (see [1] for a build log). I've prepared a small patch which just switches from tk8.4 to tk (which is currently 8.5 and will soon be 8.6). This makes the package build fine, though I haven't tested if it actually works with newer Tcl/Tk. But keeping dependency on tk8.4 is a bad option for now because Tcl/Tk 8.4 is to be dropped from the Debian archive before jaessie release. So, it's way better to test if it works and fix bugs if any (I don't expect many of them as Tcl/Tk usually maintains bckward compatibility well). Bug#726030: mozart: build depends on deprecated tcl8.4-dev and tk8.4-dev
Thanks for taking care of this. It would be great if you could do this NMU until I get round to spending some time on this package. regards Kevin On Fri, Oct 11, 2013 at 1:48 PM, Sergei Golovan sgolo...@nes.ru wrote: Source: mozart Version: 1.4.0-8 Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Maintainer, We plan to drop obsolete Tcl/Tk 8.4 from the Debian archive before jessie release (and hopefully in a few months). This means that all packages which depend on tcl8.4/tk8.4 nedd to adjust. Your mozart package build-depends on tcl8.4-dev and tk8.4-dev. For now it's fairly easy to make it use Tcl/Tk 8.5 just via replacing tcl8.4-dev and tk8.4-dev by tcl8.5-dev and tk8.5-dev and adding --with-tcl and --with-tk configure options. I saw also environment variables TCL_LIBRARY and TK_LIBRARY which I'd change to /usr/share/tcltk/tcl8.5 and /usr/share/tcltk/tk8.5 respectively. Though there's another issue, now with new texlive openout_all setting. It is currently set to p (paranoid) by default which makes impossible to build docs, as bibtex cannot process files inside /tmp directory. A workaround for that can be a local texmf.cnf overriding openout_all setting. I've prepared a small patch which makes mozart build against Tcl/Tk 8.5 and attached it. Bug#726921: iproute2: Please reintroduce iproute(2)-dev package for netlink library
Hello Laurent Bigonville! Making sure iproute-dev didn't have any reverse (build-)dependencies before dropping it was a mistake. Fortunately only collectd was affected and has been fixed upstream to use libmnl instead (and AFAIK it should have reached Debian now as well?!). This has the additional affect that collectd can enable the netlink plugin on more then i386. I don't intend to reintroduce the quite useless iproute-dev package so I'm reassigning to collectd which should drop any leftover iproute-dev build-dependency if it still exists. -- Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. What do you mean by this bug report? Please provide more information. --- Henri Salo signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#711236: RFC: reverting ruby-rack to 1.4.x with an epoch
Hello everyone, I am planning to revert ruby-rack on unstable back to upstream version 1.4.x by using an epoch. ruby-rack 1.5.x breaks rails session management, and as a consequence, redmine. More details in the correspondin bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=711236 For now, this is the easiest way to have a (partially¹) working Rails stack on unstable with rails 3, since rails 4 is not complete yet. During the upcoming Ruby sprint in January, I hope we can design a plan going forward as rails 4 is out there and we can't stay stuck at rails 3. ¹ ruby-arel and ruby-tzinfo versions do not satisfy the rails dependencies as understood by bundler anymore, so creating a new app will still fail. But if you comment or remove the Gemfile, it kinda works. I have prepared an updated ruby-rack, and I wanted help testing it to make sure we don't have an even bigger breakage with stuff wanting rack = 1.5 without declaring it explicitly in the dependencies. AFAICT the following packages have dependencies that need have their dependencies tightened to cope with the epoch: ruby-bcat, ruby-innate and ruby-actionpack-4.0. I have already commited the needed changes to their git repositories. The package I got can be obtained at http://people.debian.org/~terceiro/tmp/ruby-rack_1.4.5-1_all.deb Changelog entry: ruby-rack (1:1.4.5-1) UNRELEASED; urgency=low * Revert to 1.4.x series using an epoch :-( + Fixes session management breakage that affects rails3 and redmine. Closes: #711236 + This is being managed from the master-1.4 and upstream-1.4 branches in the git repository * New upstream release in the 1.4.x series. + debian/patches/*: all already applied upstream and removed + debian/patches/0001-Fix-Ruby-2.0-build.patch added * debian/control + add myself to Uploaders: + Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.4; no changed needed. + Drop transitional librack-ruby* packages -- Antonio Terceiro terce...@debian.org Sun, 20 Oct 2013 12:52:06 -0300 I would ask people to please test it, and let me know if there is any problem. If I don't hear any concerns in a few days, I will proceed with the upload of ruby-rack + uploads of ruby-bcat, ruby-innate and rails-4.0. -- Antonio Terceiro terce...@debian.org signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#726957: initramfs-tools: Please include `ohci-pci` after `ohci-hcd` split to use USB keyboard to enter LUKS password
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.114 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Control: affects -1 linux-image-3.11-1-amd64 Dear Debian folks, upgrading to `linux-image-3.11-1-amd64` I was not able to enter the LUKS password while it works without problems using `linux-image-3.10-3-amd64`. benh told me in #debian-kernel on irc.oftc.net, that it is probably due to the split of the Linux module `ohci-hcd` and the module `ohci-pci` is required in initramfs for using the USB keyboard. It would be awesome if you could add it (also for Debian Backports). I will be able to test the fix on Monday or Tuesday. Bug#719943: makedumpfile: fails to dump kernel log, continually appends the line [ 0.000000] to dmesg file
Hi Alex, On Fri, Aug 16, 2013 at 10:12:39PM -0400, Alex Vanderpol wrote: Package: makedumpfile Version: 1.5.4-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, There seems to be a serious issue with makedumpfile that causes it to fail to dump the kernel log when collecting crash dump information. Instead, the program continues to run indefinitely, continually appending the line [ 0.00] to the file as it seems to attempt to dump the log, which, if left alone for any considerable length of time, can rapidly result in a very large, entirely useless dmesg dump file. I have been trying to collect crash dump information for a crash that's triggered whenever Folding@Home's FahCore_a4 attempts to resume an in-progress work unit, however, every crash dump I've collected has had this problem. The main dump file seems to be dumped without a problem (though crash identifies it as a partial dump, possibly due to the kernel log being dumped into a separate file). I hope you can look into this issue and hopefully it can be sorted out soon. Sorry for the long delay in my response. This seems like a serious but not actually grave issue, since the core dump does actually exist (even though you have to interrupt the dmesg extraction). crash identifies the dump as a partial dump because we explicitly ignore zero pages and userspace pages. Within crash, you should be able to use the 'log' command to get the most recent log messages before the crash...assuming crash doesn't break in the same way makedumpfile does. I will try to reproduce this, but I worry the problem might be somewhat specific either to your crash or some other part of your configuration. Would you feel comfortable making the vmcore available to me? It would also help to know the exact kernel version, and access to a dbg package if it's not a stock kernel. Bug#719943: makedumpfile: fails to dump kernel log, continually appends the line [ 0.000000] to dmesg file
Unfortunately I no longer have any of those crash dumps available to send you anything, I had sent what I had gotten to the kernel maintainers previously in an attempt to track down the cause of the crashing, which I don't believe was ever figured out exactly but was ultimate fixed in a later kernel version. I don't know if they would still happen to have it on hand or not, though. For what it's worth, there never was a vmcore file created any time I did get a dump, instead I always got two separate files, one which is the main core dump and one which is supposed to be the dmesg log dump which unfortunately was never actually able to be dumped (the issue I filed this bug report about). If the end result is supposed to be one vmcore file, I suspect the inability of makedumpfile to dump the kernel dmesg log prohibited it from combining the two files into one file. Using the 'log' command from within crash was ultimately useless as well, as the kernel log wasn't dumped, therefore there wasn't any log for crash to open. This issue was with kernel 3.11-rc4-amd64 in its stock configuration. I hope what information I am able to give you proves to be at least somewhat useful. I understand that some of them are still down because of it. That's unfortunate. What does killed mean here? I'd love to know what the failure mode is/was. I see that all architectures except armel and armhf have successfully built 1.8.2-2 now. It will be a few days before I have time to look at this again. In the meantime, I've got a bug open requesting the armel and armhf binaries be flushed so that 1.8.2-2 can promote to testing. Bdale pgp08cFhSdH1H.pgp Description: PGP signature
