Bug#730019: systemtap: insufficient versionned builddep on libdw-dev friends

2013-11-26 Thread Vincent Bernat
severity 730019 wishlist
thanks

 ❦ 20 novembre 2013 10:11 CET, Yann Dirson dir...@bertin.fr :

 ./configure bails out it elfutils older than 0.148. The current build-deps
 are satisfied eg. on ubuntu lucid, but in fact it won't build at all
 :)

Not being able to build on Ubuntu Lucid is not an FTBFS. Downgrading
severity to wishlist. It is common to not put any versioned dependency
when they are already satisfied by oldstable.

 The nand driver was introduced into kfreebsd-10 by r235537.
 It is not included in kfreebsd-9 or kfreebsd-8 packages.

 Fixed by upstream SVN commits r258387 and r258425.

Those are the head commits (both included in latest kfreebsd-11 upload).

As for stable/10 it seems to me that r258554 includes MFC of both
problems. Please can you confirm?

Hi,

Upstream discovered and fixed use of a static IV in encrypting backups:
A fixed initialization vector (constant string) was used while encrypting
the data. This opened the encrypted stream/data to plaintext attacks among
others. Bug fixed #1185343.

Fixed in upstream 2.1.6. Can you please ensure that this gets into Debian?

Bug#722542: gcc-spu went away but is still being used

Hi all, I'm glad to announce that I've adopted this package :) and I've
uploaded a new version (2.0.0-1). This version doesn't build newlib-spu
anymore. It arrived on the archive a few days ago, should I request the removal
of the old packages for close this bug?
I just read[0] that rene should take over about it. But newlib orig 1.18
still there :/ and the cruft-report doesn't show results about newlib. I don't
understand what happens, it's the first time that I have to deal with something
like this. If someone can point me what is the correct way that I should
proceed I'll be very grateful.

Package: ocaml-sqlexpr
Version: 0.4.1-2
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package has out of date binaries on architectures were
ocaml-estring is unavailable (e.g. armhf), but it appears to have
built there in the past. This is a blocker for ocaml-sqlexpr
migrating to testing[1].
  If ocaml-sqlexpr should no longer be built on these architectures,
then please reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org and request them to
remove the binaries on the affected architectures.

~Niels

[1] Admittedly, it also appears to be blocked by ocaml-estring not
being able to migrate.

ocaml-estring has been fixed and built on all architectures... and
ocaml-sqlexpr
finally got built where it was missing. Thus, I'm closing this
bugreport.

Hi,

Removing -mfpmath=sse from the sisco.lv2/Makefile, as proposed in #730308,
fixes this.

Bug#720800: cadaver: Please update linker flag(s) for FTBFS

2013-11-26 Thread Daniel T Chen
Package: cadaver
Followup-For: Bug #720800
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu trusty ubuntu-patch

Dear Maintainer,

In Ubuntu 14.04, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

  * Adjusted lib linking order to resolve FTBFS with --as-needed;
- Also removed d/rules addition for -lgcrypt based on above change.

Because Ubuntu uses ld --as-needed by default, the change made in the
current sid version still FTBFS in Ubuntu 14.04. The above change made
in the current Ubuntu version successfully builds in both jessie and
Ubuntu 14.04.

This patch may contain extraneous metadata; if so, kindly please
disregard those portions. Thanks for considering the patch!

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages that build depends on gem2deb
using the new ruby2.0 interpreter, your package failed to build
on amd64.

The full build log is available from:

http://aws-logs.debian.net/ftbfs-logs/ruby2.0/ruby-mysql2_0.3.11-1_unstable_ruby2.log

This build is part of an effort to add gem2deb support for ruby2.0.
Information about is available at https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Ruby/Jessie.

About the rebuild: The rebuild was done on EC2 VM instances from Amazon Web
Services,
using a clean, minimal and up-to-date chroot, plus gem2deb and ruby2.0 packages
from
the repository at http://people.debian.org/~terceiro/packages/. The gem2deb
version
in that repository does not pull ruby1.8 as a dependency anymore, and builds
packages
against ruby1.9.1 and ruby2.0. Every failed build was retried once to eliminate
random
failures.

The version of gem2deb used for this rebuild, as well as ruby2.0,
will be uploaded to unstable soon.

 Hi,

 Upstream discovered and fixed use of a static IV in encrypting backups:
 A fixed initialization vector (constant string) was used while encrypting
 the data. This opened the encrypted stream/data to plaintext attacks among
 others. Bug fixed #1185343.
 http://www.percona.com/doc/percona-xtrabackup/2.1/release-notes/2.1/2.1.6.html
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/percona-xtrabackup/+bug/1185343

 Fixed in upstream 2.1.6. Can you please ensure that this gets into Debian?

Jus a short note that a CVE was asigned now for this issue:
CVE-2013-6394.

Regards,
Salvatore

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/clang/__init__.py
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/clang/cindex.py
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/clang/enumerations.py

This bug has been filed against both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may then
also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug.

Package: kfreebsd-10
Version: 10.0~svn257123-1
Severity: grave

It seems kfreebsd-10 FTBFS on mipsel due to compiler issues (missing
-lgcc maybe?):

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=kfreebsd-10arch=mipselver=10.0~svn257123-1stamp=1382831349

As compiler support for kernel is becoming increasingly troublesome
because of the gcc version divergence (upstream uses gcc-4.2 for mips,
not clang), unless somebody steps in I will disable mipsel support until
a simpler (i.e. requiring less manpower) solution is available (such as,
upstream moving mips toolchain to clang).

FTR, even former versions which built succesfully are not bootable under
QEMU/MALTA, unlike those built on FreeBSD (e.g. the one in
http://people.debian.org/~rmh/kfreebsd-mipsel/)

The qlxgbe and glxge drivers were introduced into kfreebsd-10 by
r250661 and r252206 respectively.  kfreebsd-9 and kfreebsd-8 packages
do not have these drivers, but kfreebsd-9 has a similarly named qlxgb
driver which does not contain the affected MPI dump code.

Fixed by upstream SVN commits r258155 and r258156.

Package: libc0.1
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,
FreeBSD 9.2+ kernels have broken implementation of wait6 syscall.
In particular:
* if pointer to siginfo_t structured is passed
* and WEXITED is ORed in options

The return value of siginfo_t.si_status is wrong.

It is returned the same as status, instead of result of
WEXITSTATUS(status).

Thus this is an off-by-one error, or more precisely off-by-bitmask
error.

A PR has been filed in FreeBSD at:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=misc/184002

Affected kernels are 9.2+ all the way to HEAD.

I've chatted with developers on #bsddev and they are recognising that
this is a severe bug, as current behaviour doesn't comply with
freebsd/linux manpages, POSIX, other implmentations of waitid.

Furthermore, it appears that other functions that set values of
siginfo_t.si_status incorrectly in other parts of FreeBSD kernels.
E.g. sigwaitinfo() from stable/8 onwards...

The wait6 / waitid() calls are added in the eglibc2.18 debian packaging
branch. Therefore I request to do following:

* make wait6() a proper wrapper around wait6 syscall and correct
  si_status.

* make waitid implementation use the wait6() wrapper

An example patch against current waitid patch, as I don't know how to
make proper syscall wrapper functions, is attached.

Please advice if Debian kFreeBSD maintainers are willing to patch this
issue in the kernels ahead of FreeBSD releasing fixes / updates (at
least for the wait6 syscall)

Regards,

Dmitrijs.

Hi,

a test with piuparts revealed that your package uses files from
/usr/share/doc in its maintainer scripts which is a violation of
Policy 12.3: Packages must not require the existence of any files in
/usr/share/doc/ in order to function.
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s12.3

These files must be moved to /usr/share/$PACKAGE and may be symlinked
from /usr/share/doc/$PACKAGE.

This piuparts test prevents the installation of (most) files into
/usr/share/doc with 'dpkg --path-exclude=...'.

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'testing'.
It installed fine in 'testing', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a
Breaks+Replaces relation.

Thanks.

I've added libkdegames to the good / bad criteria and scheduled those
two.

 I'll check the other packages in the unknown state of the transition.

While I was adding libkdegames I spotted why some of the packages were

Bug#730487: Proof of concept for corruption

2013-11-26 Thread R. Bijker
With the attached proof of concept I can cause a crash, but is also
proves that the returned path can change after a second allocation.

It can only happen when someone reuses the allocated buffer and assumes
that strlen(x) gives you the right length for the buffer, however it is
quite odd to not make such an assumption.

In any case, it also proves that the returned string can become invalid
after another allocation; the result of the proof of concept for me is:

24: /tmp/abcdef/.local/share
25: /tmp/abcdef/.local/share!
24: /tmp/abcdef/.local/games
and a crash for invalid free

This shows that after the second allocation the value at the first
pointer has changed. Its length has been increased by 1. This is also
what is most troublesome to me; it will create transient issues with
applications that use these functions where they can't find the data or
config folder in subsequent runs because each time it can return a
different path due to the corruption. However, it would be badly
debuggable as it only happens with certain lengths of user names.

Be aware that there is some code that changes the environment in the
proof of concept that is used to trigger it. On my x86_64 system the
current one triggers it; on other systems it might be different. It all
depends on the alignment of malloc allocations.
#include stdlib.h
#include stdio.h
#include string.h
#include basedir.h

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
	/* Home needs to be a specific length. In my case the total returned string
	 * length, including /tmp/abcdef/.local/share needs to be 24. It might be
	 * different on different architectures. */
	setenv(HOME, /tmp/abcdef, 1);

	/* Allocate the first string, and print the first. */
	const char *xdg_data_home = xdgDataHome(NULL);
	printf(%d: %s\n, strlen(xdg_data_home), xdg_data_home);

	/* Allocate the second string. */
	const char *xdg_config_home = xdgConfigHome(NULL);

	/* Now print the first string again; for me it's character byte longer now.
	 * This also means that we do not place it in the data home directory, but
	 * yet another directory. Possibly with a random name, making it quite
	 * unreliable where the files will be. This will eventually cause all kinds
	 * of transient file cannot be found errors. But only for those that have
	 * exactly the wrong amount of characters in the $HOME path. */
	printf(%d: %s\n, strlen(xdg_data_home), xdg_data_home);

	/*
	 * Now we really start to mess with things...
	 * We know, from the code, not the documentation, that we have control over
	 * the data, i.e. the data that was allocated is now ours. For strings it
	 * would generally be safe to assume that all characters of the string and
	 * the '\0' belong to the allocated string.
	 * Imagine we want the share replaced with games to match the games folder
	 * in /usr/.
	 */
	char *path = strrchr(xdg_data_home, '/');
	if (path != NULL  strlen(path + 1) = 5) {
		strcpy(path + 1, games);

Bug#724180: bespin: FTBFS: dpkg-source: error: can't build with source format '3.0 (native)': native package version may not have a revision

2013-11-26 Thread peter green

I just uploaded a NMU for bespin to delayed/5.

There were no changes to the source itself, the only changes were to use
a version number ( 0.r1552+nmu1 ) which is compatible with 3.0 (native)
and to rebuild against current sid (in particular against the new
kde-workspace).

Please tell me if you object to this.

 When I log in using lightdm 1.8.5-1, I no longer have privileges to
 manipulate Network Manager. Since I use Wi-Fi with my credentials in my
 personal keyring, this means that I have no network access. Also, the
 XFCE Log Out screen does not provide me the opportunity to restart or
 shut down the computer. Downgrading to 1.6.3-1 restores all of this
 functionality.

 I am using systemd and XFCE along with Network Manager, in case that
 matters.

 Note: The below information is for 1.6.3, since I have downgraded.

This is actually #728361. As a workaround until things have settled down
one way or another, you can remove libpam-systemd or use any other
workaround present in the bug report.

I happened to be in a situation where I can't even fully flush the postfix
queue without having
Dspam to segfault.
I end up installing dspam-dbg and gdb and attach to the process [I wasn't able
to run the process
without the init-script].

Here is a stack trace, but sadly libdspam7-drv-hash does not provide debug
symbols.
