Bug#732282: stop building java for sparc, sparc64, s390, kfreebsd-any
Am 16.12.2013 11:34, schrieb Matthias Klose: Package: java-common Version: 0.50 Severity: serious Tags: jessie, sid openjdk-7 currently ftbfs on sparc, sparc64, s390, kfreebsd-any. So please either remove the default-* packages on these archs, or fall back to gcj. - the hotspot port for linux sparc isn't maintained anymore by upstream. If a porter is interested, maybe investigate how to build the zero vm on these architectures. - s390 needs an update of the s390 debian specific patch. Not working on this myself. - the debian kfreebsd patches need an update. I don't think it's feasible to burden the openjdk maintainers or the security team with patch maintenance. I understand that the bsd support is found upstream in openjdk-8, so maybe try that again for the next upstream version. ia64, sparc, sparc64, kfreebsd-i386 and kfreebsd-amd64 are now demoted to gcj on the VCS. Had to demote ia64 too, and don't want to investigate anymore. I'll upload java-common later this week. The good news is that arm64, mips, mipsel, powerpcspe, ppc64el and x32 are now promoted to use openjdk-7. Bug#734460: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#734460: network-manager: Issues related to systemd when upgrading from 0.9.8.8-2
Le Sun, 12 Jan 2014 02:18:32 +0100, Michael Biebl bi...@debian.org a écrit : Am 07.01.2014 13:12, schrieb Laurent Bigonville: Package: network-manager Version: 0.9.8.8-2 Severity: serious Hi, I'm opening this bug so this is not getting lost. When upgrading from the previous versions the following events might occurs when the user is running systemd: 1) The package was not enabling the systemd unit in the previous versions. 2) NM was then started using the LSB script called network-manager. This means that the cgroup was called network-manager.service. 3) During the upgrade the systemd unit is properly enabled and the LSB script is masked by a symlink, this means that at some point during the upgrade, the canonical name changes from network-manager.service to NetworkManager.service 4) At the end of the upgrade, systemd looks for a NetworkManager.service cgroups which is not existing and then concludes that the service is not running at all. 5) Systemd tries to start the service, NM complains that there is an other instance of itself running = boom To fix this, I would propose to stop NM in the preinst script if we are upgrading from the previous versions and that the user is running systemd. Why preinst and not postinst (before the #DEBHELPER# stanza, i.e. before the service is enabled)? Stopping the service in preinst creates unnecessary downtime which could be fatal if NM is in charge of the network connection and you do a remote upgrade. I don't see a downside moving the network-manager stop to postinst, do you? Just in case I'm missing something Well, in the postinst the symlink that mask the LSB will already be present on disk. That means that the canonical name of the service has already changed. A daemon-reload is actually needed for systemd to notice this change, but nothing guarantee that no other packages would do it for us between the moment the files are unpacked and the moment our postinst script is called. That's why I thought that stopping the service in the preinst was the safer choice. Bug#734460: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#734460: Bug#734460: network-manager: Issues related to systemd when upgrading from 0.9.8.8-2
Am 12.01.2014 13:11, schrieb Laurent Bigonville: Le Sun, 12 Jan 2014 02:18:32 +0100, Michael Biebl bi...@debian.org a écrit : Am 07.01.2014 13:12, schrieb Laurent Bigonville: Package: network-manager Version: 0.9.8.8-2 Severity: serious Hi, I'm opening this bug so this is not getting lost. Ah, k. I missed the part about the symlink/alias now being shipped directly in the package and it no longer being created via [Install] Alias=network-manager.service That's why I thought that stopping the service in the preinst was the safer choice. This somehow smells like the same bug as [1] or at least related, i.e. systemd getting confused when we mess around with the symlinks. (In case of rsyslog we basically go the other direction: the symlinks are no longer shipped in the package but created on install time via dh-systemd) I wonder if there is a way to address this directly in systemd. We could apply the same workaround to NM: kill $(cat /var/run/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.pid) or a less hacky way like start-stop-daemon --stop --retry 5 --quiet --pidfile /var/run/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.pid --exec /usr/sbin/NetworkManager (directly copied from the SysV init script) Both options (invoke-rc.d stop in preinst, manual stop in postinst) aren't pretty. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#721485: marked as done (flash-kernel: flash_kernel_set_root waits for stdin in a particular case, which makes the installer hang)
Your message dated Sun, 12 Jan 2014 16:03:34 + with message-id e1w2nve-0002ef...@franck.debian.org and subject line Bug#721485: fixed in flash-kernel 3.12 has caused the Debian Bug report #721485, regarding flash-kernel: flash_kernel_set_root waits for stdin in a particular case, which makes the installer hang to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 721485: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=721485 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems ---BeginMessage--- Package: flash-kernel Severity: critical Tags: d-i Justification: breaks the whole system The flash_kernel_set_root script (located under initramfs-tools/hooks) will attempt to read from stdin in a particular case, which is reached when no rootdev was found (line 33: read _ignored). Even though $DEBIAN_FRONTEND = noninteractive is probably intended to avoid reaching line 33 in the installer context, it is actually reached when the pause_error function is called, in the case no rootdev was found. As a result, the scripts waits for stdin, but obviously cannot read anything, so it makes the whole installer process hang on the Installed u-boot-tools message. I reached this case when using and formating an ext2 root partition: it seems that the ext2 partitioning tool does not ask udev to update the links in /dev/disk/by-label/, hence flash_kernel_set_root cannot find the disk corresponding to the newly-created UUID and jumps to pause_error. Note that this does not happen with ext3. Running udevadm trigger sets the correct /dev/disk/by-label/ symlinks, so maybe flash_kernel_set_root should run it prior to the disk detection, but most likely, it should be up to the partitioning tool to ask udev to reload. In any case, it should never wait for stdin in the installer context. This happened when installing Debian Wheezy with the latest stable debian-installer images on a DreamPlug. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: flash-kernel Source-Version: 3.12 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of flash-kernel, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. Bug#732712: Requesting removal of denyhosts from sid
Control: retitle -1 RM: denyhosts -- RoST; upstream dead; unmaintained; dysfunctional in sid Control: severity -1 normal Control: reassign -1 ftp.debian.org On Fri, Dec 20, 2013 at 04:10:21PM +0100, Helmut Grohne wrote: We, the Debian security team, believe that denyhosts should not be released with Debian jessie and further releases for the following reasons: * There are unaddressed security issues (e.g. #692229). * The tool is dead upstream (last release 2008). * There is a viable alternative, fail2ban, that provides the same or increased feature set. For these reasons we deem denyhosts unsupportable during the jessie release cycle. It appears that at least none of the maintainers disagree with this reasoning. In other words, I didn't get a single reply since disclosing the issue. In the mean time I noticed that the security uploads introduced a(nother) regression #734329. While it appears to be fixable for squeeze and wheezy, it is more involved for jessie and sid. Thus I am accelerating the removal process in order to go with the simple fix for said regression. You can have sysvinit and systemd installed in parallel and then use the 'init' kernel parameter to switch between them. Only systemd-sysv conflicts/replaces sysvinit. I don't know whether current gdm will work correctly under sysvinit but you can at least test that you can boot that system and log in on a text console. Bug#729540: closed by Bernd Zeimetz
Jim, it looks like you're trying to build a modified package, not Bernd's package - is that correct? There are two issues I can see: - your CFLAGS don't seem to include -Wno-deprecated-declarations, without which the build will fail because GCC will treat the warnings as errors. Now, granted, those warnings could be patched away by using some explicit casts, but I'd rather not mask some possible subtle bugs that way - you seem to be compiling with GCC 4.8. This package will not build with 4.8 anytime soon, unfortunately, unless upstream migrates to 4.8+ as well Both issues have been dealth with both in my package and in Bernd's, are you absolutely sure you're using the correct one? Bug#691576: GDB still broken with 3.11.10-1
2014/1/12 Ben Hutchings b...@decadent.org.uk: You can have sysvinit and systemd installed in parallel and then use the 'init' kernel parameter to switch between them. Only systemd-sysv conflicts/replaces sysvinit. So, I've reinstalled sysvinit and sysvinit-core that purged systemd-sysv. I can't however remove systemd itself as it's required by numerous GNOME packages. I've rebooted my system and even reinstalled your -O1 kernel in order to be sure that initrd is regenerated. Still the same however! How is it that systemd-udevd still shows up? Emeric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#734392: Error: Can't connect to unix socket
It's a hard time for me due to business work cummulation in January. Anyway the speechd problem is very interesting and a priority thing in my hobby time. I did a deciding debugging session today. Speech-dispatcher output is very limited when spd-say command is issued. This probably needs an upstream change, but that's a thing for the future. I guess the problem comes from pulse being the default audio output. When I change the configuration from pulse to alsa, spd-say starts working ok. I can't confirm, why the source compiled from speechd upstream was working better than the Debian package. Maybe because of different configuration files. /etc vs /usr/local/etc. Maybe I did not run ldconfig and the state of binaries was hard to determine. I found the logs finally, using strace -f spd-say test 21|grep log [pid 14992] mkdir(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log/, 0700) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) [pid 14992] mkdir(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log/debug, 0700) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) [pid 14992] open(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log//speech-dispatcher.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_APPEND, 0666) = 7 [pid 14992] open(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log//espeak.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0600) = 11 [pid 14992] open(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log//cicero.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0600) = 14 [pid 15001] open(/var/log/speech-dispatcher/cicero-executable.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0600) = 15 [pid 14992] open(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log//dummy.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0600) = 17 [pid 14992] open(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log//flite.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0600) = 20 [pid 14992] open(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log//generic.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0600) = 23 [pid 14992] open(/run/user/0/speech-dispatcher/log//speech-dispatcher.log, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_APPEND, 0666) = 6 They seem to ask for another bug report. Hm, looking more closely, instead of moving the files around, it might be better to use a try {} catch {} statement like we do for NM. Robert, can you try the following patch: This successfully takes care of the bluetooth part. NM, however, is still a problem since not all its instances are protected by try-catch. I.e. the one in ui/sessionMode.js would need a similar hack. -- Robert Millan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
