Package: initscripts
Version: 2.88dsf-45
Severity: normal

Dear maintainers,

during boot, Debian forces checking of hard disks/partitions, what is IMHO an
important thing to do. Since fsck during boot is not performed due to the
i915.fastboot=1 kernel parameter, it seems adequate to set a higher
importance
to the issue, feel free to change that, but not running fsck might cause
serious
data loss.

For reference, my fstab entry for / is:
UUID=c501653f-ad06-43b5-90e1-8e8ff8e6f903 / ext4 user_xattr 0 1

but

$ LC_ALL=C LANG=C grep -i -w -s fastboot /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.10.26-dq67sw+ [...] i915.fastboot=1 [...]

returns 0 and tells checkfs.sh and checkroot.sh to skip the fs checks,
claiming Fast boot enabled, so skipping file system check.:

$ grep -m1 fastboot /etc/init.d/checkfs.sh /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh
/etc/init.d/checkfs.sh: if [ -f /fastboot ] || grep -s -w -i fastboot
/proc/cmdline
/etc/init.d/checkroot.sh: if [ -f /fastboot ] || grep -s -w -i fastboot
/proc/cmdline

However, obviously  i915.fastboot=1 != fastboot.
Regarding this excerpt from man grep:
  -w, --word-regexp
  Select only those lines containing matches that form whole
  words. The test is that the matching substring must either be
  at the beginning of the line, or preceded by a non-word
  constituent character. Similarly, it must be either at the end
  of the line or followed by a non-word constituent character.
  Word-constituent characters are letters, digits, and the
  underscore.
it seems to me that grep treats the [.=] characters as word constituent
characters. Grep may be broken in some way (?), it does not work.

LC_ALL=C LANG=C grep -i -s '\fastboot\' /proc/cmdline does not work either,
same behaviour; some strange unicode error (grep 2.15-2 and 2.12-2 affected),
or are [.=] characters part of the letters set? FYI, grep on an ubuntu 13.10
behaves the same regaring these characters.

As a workaround I have changed the line containing the grep command:

 -  if [ -f /fastboot ] || grep -s -w -i fastboot /proc/cmdline
 +  if [ -f /fastboot ] || grep -s -i  fastboot /proc/cmdline

which does the trick in this case. IMHO it should be save to assume the
preceeding space charakter for fastboot as a kernel parameter.
Maybe I did miss something, but I hope this could be helpful.

Best,
Sebastian

The problem reported above is on its way to being solved. There were further
licensing issues encountered and therefore the whole licensing of tools/ from
the source directory is re-checked.
A new upload will also have a machine-readable copyright file to ease the

This test works for me.

My guess is that either the package itself or the test's temporary files
are on a filesystem that does not allow the executable bit to be set.
The whole point of the test is to check that the executable bit is being
set on the file after the conversion, based on the executable bit being
set on test-data/main-cvsrepos/single-files/attr-exec,v in the test data
input. So if indeed the Debian test infrastructure does not allow the
executable bit to be set, the only alternative would be to skip this
test on your setup. If the limitation is on the input then something
like this should do the trick:

 This test works for me.

 My guess is that either the package itself or the test's temporary files
 are on a filesystem that does not allow the executable bit to be set.
 Not the case. I've one partition for everything (this is a test environment).
$ mount | grep ' / '
/dev/sdb1 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
$ mount | grep noexec
[ shows the usual drill, /proc , /sys , /run and /dev/pts ]
~/test/cvs2svn-2.4.0 $ rm -f ./test.sh  echo 'echo works!'
test.sh  chmod a+x ./test.sh  ./test.sh
works!

In short, the fs has the executable bit allowed (otherwise my whole
system would just break), and testing +x with a shell script in the
cvs2svn build directory succedded. Will try to get a more verbose
output of the python test, why it fails.

 So if indeed the Debian test infrastructure does not allow the
 executable bit to be set, the only alternative would be to skip this
 test on your setup. If the limitation is on the input then something
 like this should do the trick:
[...]
 If the limitation is on the output directory, then we would probably
 have to try setting the executable bit on some file to see if it is allowed.
 None the case, see the tests above. Especially that the mentioned file is:
~/test/cvs2svn-2.4.0 # ls -l ./test-data/main-cvsrepos/single-files/attr-exec,v
-rwxr-xr-x 1 1000 1000 424 Oct  8  2007
./test-data/main-cvsrepos/single-files/attr-exec,v
Thus it _has_ the a+x set. First I thought the missing go+w bits may
cause problems. Then
# chmod 0777 ./test-data/main-cvsrepos/single-files/attr-exec,v
# rerun the build and test process, still fails the exact same way
# ls -l ./test-data/main-cvsrepos/single-files/attr-exec,v
-rwxrwxrwx 1 1000 1000 424 Oct  8  2007
./test-data/main-cvsrepos/single-files/attr-exec,v

Now it has all rights a normal user may have, but still can't get that
the +x is indeed set on that file.

Bug#737144: cvs2svn: FTBFS with rcs 5.9

 Installed versions:
 Subversion is 1.8.5
 CVS is 1.12.13+real-11
 rcs is 5.9.2
 python is 2.7.6

 This test works for me.
 Did some debugging with:
# ./run-tests.py --verbose 5
[ lots of normal looking output, but fails ]

I've found out that it fails in run-tests.py line 360 as indeed, the
output it checks doesn't contain any 'Changed paths:' line.
So every 'rnumber | author | ...' line should be followed by a
line 'Changed paths:' with the files changed in that particular
revision. There's an exception. Maybe it's due to a newer Subversion
release (as previously mentioned, I use 1.8.5). But r6 looks like
this:
-- cut --
r6 | jrandom | 1995-12-30 18:37:22 + (Sat, 30 Dec 1995) | 2 lines

Remove the file 'first' again, which should have no effect.
-- cut --

All other revisions are OK, like r7:
-- cut --
r7 | jrandom | 1996-08-20 23:53:47 + (Tue, 20 Aug 1996) | 5 lines
Changed paths:
   D /trunk/full-prune
[...]
-- cut --

I suspect r6 is right, as the note tells removing the same file named
'first' twice should have no output. Hence no 'Changed paths:' is
mentioned in the output. The test itself has the fault.
Hope this helps,
Laszlo/GCS

Bug#737729: apache2-bin: missing mod_mpm_itk.so

2014-02-05 Thread Fabien Harrang
Package: apache2-bin
Version: 2.4.7-1
Severity: grave
Tags: d-i
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

After updgrading Apache from 2.4.6-3 to 2.4.7-1, it refused to start.
The problem is that the file /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_mpm_itk.so
doesn’t exits since it is referenced in the enabled mpm_itk module.

After downgrading apache2-bin to 2.4.6-3, Apache starts.
Please add the missing mod_mpm_itk.so file in apache2-bin 2.4.7-1.

Best Regards,

Fabien Harrang

Package: apache2-bin
Version: 2.4.7-1
Severity: grave
Tags: d-i
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

After updgrading Apache from 2.4.6-3 to 2.4.7-1, it refused to start.
The problem is that the file /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_mpm_itk.so
doesn’t exits since it is referenced in the enabled mpm_itk module.

After downgrading apache2-bin to 2.4.6-3, Apache starts.
Please add the missing mod_mpm_itk.so file in apache2-bin 2.4.7-1.

Best Regards,

Fabien Harrang

Please read the upgrade notes being shown to you during the upgrade.
The ITK package is split out of the Apache source. We decided that
upgrades from testing to Apache 2.4.7 and later is only partially
supported by doing a manual installation of the itk package.

Wheezy users are not affected from this.

After installing libresiprocate-1.9 from sid, it works fine. I reckon it
should depend on something like libresiprocate-1.9 (= ${binary:Version})
unless the ABI is declared stable now.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#737745: /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree: update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv not working

Package: flashplugin-nonfree

Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
according to public reports there is a new *critical* vulnerability in
flashplayer. But the command to update isn't working:

   * What led up to the situation?
update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv

* What was the outcome of this action?

update to upstream version = 11.2.202.336

BTW:
There is a bunch of Debian/sid users who use the following cronjob to check for
and update to new versions if available:

***script /etc/cron.daily/flash***
#!/bin/sh

test -x /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree  /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-

***end***

Shouldn'd such functionality be part of update-flashplugin-nonfree?

Thanks for fixing this.

As these commits were authored only 5 days ago I'd think the current 1.2.4-0.1
package in Sid and Jessie have this issue too, unless there's some other
mitigating factor with the stable 1.2.4 version.

Bug#736301: python-sqlite-dbg: unhandled symlink to directory conversion: /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE

2014-02-05 Thread Sebastian Ramacher
Hi Joesl

On 2014-02-01 11:45:44, Joel Rosdahl wrote:
 As far as I can tell, neither python-sqlite-dbg nor python-sqlite in
 neither wheezy nor jessie contain symlinks for (or in) /usr/share/doc and
 don't create any symlinks in preinstall/postinstall scripts.

python-sqlite-dbg in wheezy contains a symlink:

$ dpkg -l python-sqlite-dbg
...
ii  python-sqlite-dbg 1.0.1-9   amd64 ...

$ file /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg
/usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg: symbolic link to `python-sqlite'

However, python-sqlite-dbg in jessie ships a directory. After a fresh
install:

$ dpkg -l python-sqlite-dbg
...
ii  python-sqlite-dbg 1.0.1-10  amd64 ...

$ file /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg
/usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg: directory

You can see the problem if you install python-sqlite-dbg in wheezy,
upgrade to the version from jessie and then remove it (without removing
python-sqlite). /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite no longer contains any
files apart from README.Debian. copyright and changelog.Debian.gz are
missing.

So for upgrades this conversion from a symlink to a directory needs
special handling: either handle the removal of the symlink in maintainer
scripts or use dpkg-maintscript-helper's symlink_to_dir command to do
that.

Bug#737748: debian-installer: Netboot initrd's for debian do not include sata-modules or ata-modules

2014-02-05 Thread Elizabeth Myers
Package: debian-installer

Justification: renders package unusable

Debian's initrd.gz for netboot installs on amd64 does not include the
ata-modules or sata-modules udebs. This renders the package wholly unusable on
systems with AHCI controllers - and legacy mode is not supported by newer

 Debian's initrd.gz for netboot installs on amd64 does not include the
 ata-modules or sata-modules udebs.

Correct. These are downloaded from the network on demand. If this is not
working for you then please file a normal severity bug with the
appropriate logs (See
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/FAQ#Q:_How_do_I_copy_d-i_logfiles_to_a_remote_host.3F
 )

 This renders the package wholly unusable on systems with AHCI
 controllers - and legacy mode is not supported by newer BIOSes.

Have you tried it?

As I say, if it doesn't work then please refile with logs, in the
meantime I'm closing this bug.

Thanks,
Ian.

Dear maintainer,

I tried to reproduce this on my local box in a chroot and using pdebuilder...
It built successfully here (amd64)...

So maybe this was some glitch in the buildd?

Dear Maintainer,

according to public reports there is a new *critical* vulnerability in

   * What led up to the situation?
update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv

* What was the outcome of this action?

update to upstream version = 11.2.202.336

BTW:
There is a bunch of Debian/sid users who use the following cronjob to check for
and update to new versions if available:

***script /etc/cron.daily/flash***
#!/bin/sh

test -x /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree  /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-

***end***

Shouldn'd such functionality be part of update-flashplugin-nonfree?

Did you recreate the chroot from scratch? In this case it might not have
been passed to cowbuilder by me, as an exception. (Which is going to

Bug#736301: python-sqlite-dbg: unhandled symlink to directory conversion: /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE

2014-02-05 Thread Joel Rosdahl
Hi Sebastian,

Thank you.

What confused me was that:

1. The python-sqlite-dbg_1.0.1-9_amd64.deb I have lying around does not
contain the symlink. This is the exactly the file I uploaded to the archive
on 2011-12-09.

and

2. My attempted piuparts command did not trigger the error. On a closer
look at the log, that's because it didn't even try to install
python-sqlite-dbg since it apparently doesn't work to run piuparts in a
chroot.

 $ dpkg -l python-sqlite-dbg
 ...
 ii  python-sqlite-dbg 1.0.1-9   amd64 ...

 $ file /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg
 /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg: symbolic link to `python-sqlite'

 However, python-sqlite-dbg in jessie ships a directory. After a fresh
 install:

 $ dpkg -l python-sqlite-dbg
 ...
 ii  python-sqlite-dbg 1.0.1-10  amd64 ...

 $ file /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg
 /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite-dbg: directory

 You can see the problem if you install python-sqlite-dbg in wheezy,
 upgrade to the version from jessie and then remove it (without removing
 python-sqlite). /usr/share/doc/python-sqlite no longer contains any
 files apart from README.Debian. copyright and changelog.Debian.gz are
 missing.

 So for upgrades this conversion from a symlink to a directory needs
 special handling: either handle the removal of the symlink in maintainer
 scripts or use dpkg-maintscript-helper's symlink_to_dir command to do
 that.

Okay. Currently there's ABI breakage in protobuf 2.5.0-7 which will be fixed
with the -9 upload once it's finished being built; I have to wait for that
before we can upload a new 1.2.4 mumble package fixes. I've got both of the
CVE patches queued for the next upload which I'm looking to do this weekend,
but if you'd like to do a security fix on 1.2.4-0.1 after the protobuf -9
build go ahead and do so.

Regards,
Salvatore

   Thanks for fixing this.

   As these commits were authored only 5 days ago I'd think the current
   1.2.4-0.1 package in Sid and Jessie have this issue too, unless there's
   some other mitigating factor with the stable 1.2.4 version.

  Yes it is also as it's supporting Opus; reason is that I concentrated
  first on the wheezy-security upload.

Thanks for the update. So then I will stop preparing also the packages
for unstable now!

Thanks for working on it!

Salvatore

Package: groundcontrol
Version: 1.6.6-1
Severity: important
User: pkg-gnome-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: nautilus3-transition

Hi,

this package currently depends on python-nautilus - most likely because
it provides an extension for the nautilus file manager.

The introduction of nautilus 3 to unstable is imminent. In this version,
the extensions interface has changed, and groundcontrol
requires changes to support this version:
 * porting to GTK+ 3
 * porting from PyGTK to the GObject Introspection mechanism

You might want to check if upstream developers provide a new version,
compatible with nautilus 3.x. Otherwise, porting is a feasible task if
you have a few hours to spare. If you feel like it, the following guides
should help you:
 * http://live.gnome.org/PyGObject/IntrospectionPorting
 * http://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/gtk-migrating-2-to-3.html

nautilus 3 packages are available from experimental. Please update and
test your package against this version and ideally upload it to
experimental, too.

Packages that remain unported will have to be removed from testing
eventually.

Cheers,

2014-02-05 Thread Francesco Poli (wintermute)
Package: ruby-switch
Version: 0.1.0
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,
after installing ruby/1:1.9.3.1, the alternatives for /usr/bin/ruby and
similar links seem to have been replaced by direct links.

  $ ls -altrF /usr/bin/ruby
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Feb  3 01:08 /usr/bin/ruby - ruby1.9.1*

As a consequence, ruby-switch stopped working:

  # ruby-switch --list
  update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for ruby

Is there a working strategy for setting the default system-wide Ruby
interpreter in a clean and practical way?
Should ruby-switch be adapted to the new strategy or should it be
removed from Debian sid?

Please let me know.
Thanks for your time!

The latest concordance package depends on concordance-common which
depends on iptables. iptables is linux-specific, but concordance is
built on kfreebsd and hurd. You need to either adjust the dependency,
or stop building on non-linux (and get ftp-master to remove the existing

Bug#737733: [Flightgear-devel] simgear: license issue

2014-02-05 Thread Rebecca N. Palmer
Fortunately, this problem has been solved elsewhere in Debian before -
here's a legal replacement:
http://sources.debian.net/src/dpkg/1.17.6/lib/compat

(They no longer use it as MD5 is now too easy to break, but it still
works if you're only checking for accidental corruption.)

Bug#737803: chocolate-doom: FTBFS: race during parallel installation

2014-02-05 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Source: chocolate-doom
Version: 2.0.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

Hi,

your package failed to build on i386 [1] with a race condition during a
parallel make install. This is caused by overriding the documentation
destination to point to the same directory (which is not a problem,
but it requires the install to be done sequentially).
I could reproduce this race on the first attempt on amd64 with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=parallel=16

The fix is easy: disable parallel installation in debian/rules by
using

dh_auto_install --max-parallel=1 -- ...

Bug#737807: FTBFS on all big-endian architectures; patch attached

2014-02-05 Thread Adam Conrad
Package: libcmis
Version: 0.4.1-3
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu trusty ubuntu-patch

In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

  * debian/patches/fix-endian-bool.diff: Fix int/bool confusion that
leads to the test suite failing on all big-endian architectures.

This should be fairly self-explanatory. In that actual code, isOutOfMemory
is defined and used as a bool, but in the testsuite it's declared as an int.

On big-endian arches, int and bool aren't even remotely interchangeable, so
fixing the declaration in the testsuite (as this patch does) fixes the FTBFS.

This should be forwarded upstream too, obviously.

Package: tesseract-ocr
Version: 3.03.00-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy §3.5

If you mix tesseract-ocr 3.03.00-1 (from experimental) with
libtesseract3 3.02.02-1 (from unstable), the program dies with symbol
lookup error:

$ tesseract --list-langs
tesseract: symbol lookup error: tesseract: undefined symbol:
_Z16tprintf_internalPKcz

The problem goes away if you upgrade libtesseract3, so it looks like the
dependency on libtesseract3 is too weak.

Package: libprotobuf8
Version: 2.5.0-7
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Upgrading from 2.5.0-5 to -7 (or -6) breaks Mumble, which now fails to start,
reporting:

/usr/bin/mumble: symbol lookup error: /usr/bin/mumble: undefined
symbol: _ZN6google8protobuf18GoogleOnceInitImplEPlPNS0_7ClosureE

Downgrading manually to the now-gone 2.5.0-5 fixes this problem.

I'm not completely sure whether this is a bug in libprotobuf or mumble using
some internal API, so feel to reassign if necessary.

Regards,
Colomban

Package: libcmis
Version: 0.4.1-3
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu trusty ubuntu-patch

In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

  * debian/patches/fix-endian-bool.diff: Fix int/bool confusion that
leads to the test suite failing on all big-endian architectures.
