Bug#741419: missing license in debian/copyright

2014-03-18 Thread Markus Koschany
On Mon, 17. Mar 20:38 Thorsten Alteholz alteh...@debian.org wrote:
[...]
Upstream just states that their own license is _similar_ to the Apache
 license.

But this is not true. It is similar to an ancient version. It is by
far not similar to what is nowadays called Apache license. But
this is bean counting and has nothing todo with the real problem.

The whole bug report is bean counting. There is either a problem with
wrong licenses and a policy violation or not. Please take a closer took
at those files. None of them is licensed under the Apache license. It is
completely absurd what you are implying here.

I can only come to the conclusion that the correct severity of this bug
report should be either wishlist or minor. There is no policy violation.

Ok, I admit that I am not a writer and my wording might be ambigious
sometimes. So please tell me what you didn't understand so far.
Maybe you want to refresh your memory by looking at some articles in
 the Wikipedia?

After your clarification the remaining issues seem to be hamlet.xml,
catalog.xml and catalog.xsl. All of them were once granted to the public
domain. The catalog files were taken from ibiblio.org. I thought it was
obvious but all files on ibiblio.org are in the public domain.

http://www.ibiblio.org/share/#terms-of-use

There is no need to remove anything from the sources. A new derivative
work, jdom2, was created based on these free xml files. If you take one
step back and look at the package description, you will see that jdom2
is a XML library. In my opinion it is perfectly clear that those xml
files are not used in their original context anymore but are now part of a
program that analyzes and modifies XML content. They are not simply put
together with other files, they are part of this xml library.

I personally perceive this bug report as unhelpful and as a special form
of nitpicking. It simply monopolizes the free time of others for no good
reasons. I still don't see any evidence that this package is not
DFSG-compliant or that there is a policy violation.

According to the upstream bug report, alberta has renamed the function in
recent source snapshots (and maybe in 3.0-rc7 available for download, this
needs to be checked). So the right solution is probably to update alberta in
 Debian.

Alterta-3.0 was released upstream[1]. So once the alberta package in
Debian is fixed, I can take a look at fixing this issue.

I can reproduce it. The greeter just froze after I've entered my username and
password. I've switched to the console using Ctrl-Alt-F1, killed -9 the greeter,
and it logged into DE session just fine.
I've checked that libpam-systemd is installed.
I've looked in all the logs mentioned in the comments above, but haven't found
any errors in these logs in my system.

If I rebuild vavoom 1.33-4 with current unstable, then install it and
run vavoom, it fails to start. If I reinstall the package of 1.33-4

a whole level to check (purely in the interests of debugging).

I have the freedoom package installed, which seems to be where the game

Hello,
after installing ruby/1:1.9.3.1, the alternatives for /usr/bin/ruby and
similar links seem to have been replaced by direct links.

  $ ls -altrF /usr/bin/ruby

As a consequence, ruby-switch stopped working:

Is there a working strategy for setting the default system-wide Ruby
interpreter in a clean and practical way?
Should ruby-switch be adapted to the new strategy or should it be
removed from Debian sid?

Please let me know.
Thanks for your time!

Bug#742030: gnumeric: dumps core when reading xls

2014-03-18 Thread Francesco Potortì
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.12.12-1
Severity: serious

I open a complex xls file that I have created with the old versions and
maintained for years.

I make a trivial mod and save it. I close gnumeric. When I reopen it,
it dumps core as soon as the file is read.

If, after making the same mod I save it in native format, I observe no
problems.

The file is complex and contains reserved data, so I should first try to
reduce it to prepare a reproducible test case. I have the core dump.

More data as soon as I find the time or as soon as someone suggests a
quick way to make this report more useful

Bug#741419: missing license in debian/copyright

2014-03-18 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

On Tue, 18 Mar 2014, Markus Koschany wrote:

The whole bug report is bean counting. There is either a problem with
wrong licenses and a policy violation or not. Please take a closer took
at those files. None of them is licensed under the Apache license. It is
completely absurd what you are implying here.

I can cite again:
nameSimilar to Apache License but with the acknowledgment clause
removed/name

here we have the Apache License.

It is interesting that you copy the least important point to the
beginning.

After your clarification the remaining issues seem to be hamlet.xml,
catalog.xml and catalog.xsl. All of them were once granted to the public
domain. The catalog files were taken from ibiblio.org. I thought it was
obvious but all files on ibiblio.org are in the public domain.

You are funny, do you expect that everybody knows all websites? As
licenses might change over time, such stuff needs to be documentend
somewhere witbin the package. I would suggest debian/copyright

According to your own arguments the file hamlet.xml now is under the jdom2
license. Is ibiblio.org in violation of this license?

A new derivative
work, jdom2, was created based on these free xml files.

Please have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derivative_work
The underlying work are the three files mentioned above.

If you take one
step back and look at the package description, you will see that jdom2
is a XML library.

Yes

In my opinion it is perfectly clear that those xml
files are not used in their original context anymore but are now part of a
program that analyzes and modifies XML content.

The context does not matter, the content of the single file is important.

They are not simply put
together with other files, they are part of this xml library.

The file hamlet.xml has been just copied from ibiblio.org and put into
the package. I did not find any differences. So where are the substantial
changes that would make it a derivative work?

I personally perceive this bug report as unhelpful and as a special form
of nitpicking.

It is my assignment to nit-pick. So thanks for acknowledging my work.

It simply monopolizes the free time of others for no good
reasons. I still don't see any evidence that this package is not
DFSG-compliant or that there is a policy violation.

The file debian/copyright of the package is incomplete. This is a
violation of policy.

Bug#742034: clamav-daemon: postinst creates broken config file

2014-03-18 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
Package: clamav-base
Version: 0.98.1+dfsg-1+deb7u2
Severity: serious

My generated clamd.conf contains:

LogRotate 10 clamav-base/LogRotate doesn't exist

This looks like fallout from the lack of error handling in the
postinst.

This obviously breaks clamav-daemon on startup.

Bug#720833: eegdev: FTBFS: conflicting types for 'cff_parse'

2014-03-18 Thread Dejan Latinovic

Hello,

The reason for that is a migration to the newer version of bison,
from 2.5 to 3.0.2.

Attached patch contains changes to bison input files (src/core/conffile.y and
src/core/confline.y),
in order to adapt to newer bison version.

Could you please consider applying this patch?

Thanks,
Dejan

Actually the JP3D code is not part of the binary package. So this CVE
only affect source code that is not compiled on debian packages.

I have forwarded this upstream, and will work on having it fix.
Meanwhile I am closing this since it does not impact debian package at

Source: cigi-ccl
Version: 3.3.3a+svn818-2
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Builds of cigi-ccl for 32-bit architectures such as i386 have been
failing with dh_makeshlibs errors because some signatures wind up
varying slightly between 32-bit and 64-bit builds, leading to
different mangled names. See, for instance,

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=cigi-cclarch=i386ver=3.3.3a%2Bsvn818-2stamp=1394543859

Could you please account for these differences?

Thanks!

Even considering the somewhat verbose subject, this bugreport has way to
little information to be useful. Please install the reportbug package and run
reportbug src:linux (on the machine which has received the soft lookup or
one with similar hw+sw) and file a new bug.

(Technically you/I could also reopen this bug and attach that info here,
but... maybe you never provide more info, so its easier to close this bug and
ask you to file a new one.)

Thanks!

maven.pom and jdom-info.xml are obviously covered by the project license.

catalog.xml and catalog.xsl are not used and could be removed. The other
xml files under core/samples/ are trivial test files undoubtedly covered
by the project license.

hamlet.xml isn't used either. It's a test file for a performance test
that isn't even executed during the build nor bundled in the binary package.

Release sounds good though.

We'll try to get to a release soon, but in the meantime see

for the relevant patch (a simple one-liner).

Bug#731458: alacarte: New items always placed in other category with no icon

2014-03-18 Thread OmegaPhil
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Thanks for reporting this bug - I originally thought alacarte did
nothing with the new menu items except for outputting the initial
.desktop file, happy to see they at least end up in the Other menu.

I had expected to have to fix this myself, but I tested the upstream
v3.11 beforehand
(https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tag/?id=3.11.91) - and I can
confirm this appalling bug is fixed!

I will open up another bug to request this updated.

Source: python-magcode-core
Version: 1.4.3-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Builds of python-magcode-core in minimal environments (as on the
autobuilders) have been failing:

   fakeroot debian/rules clean
  dh clean --with python3
 dh_testdir
 debian/rules override_dh_auto_clean

I suspect the simplest fix would be to declare a build dependency on
python, even if you otherwise only need version 3.x.

At any rate, could you please take a look?

Thanks!

Build fixed by including build-dep on python.

Change log entry:

Add python as a build-dep for pyversions so that Debian can build

Thank you for the quick bug report,

we are not vulnerable since nginx is compiled with the --with-debug
configure option. Although, we will release 1.4.7-1 shortly to follow
upstream and include a few module updates as well.

Bug#721847: mkfs.btrfs -f

2014-03-18 Thread Miguel Figueiredo

According mkfs.btrfs manpage the behaviour is expected:

-f, --force
Force overwrite when an existing filesystem is detected
on the device. By default, mkfs.btrfs will not write to the device if
it suspects that there is a filesystem or partition table on the device
already.

I guess the change should be made on partman-btrfs/commit.d/format_btrfs

Bug#737903: totem unusable

2014-03-18 Thread Paul
Hello Andreas,

You are right -- Totem is NOT the cause of my difficulties, therefore I am
going to mark this bug as resolved.

At the time, I had just installed Debian testing/unstable and the
firmware-linux-nonfree package. Other problems with my video output besides
the Totem hang showed up. I installed Debian oldstable (3.2.54-2) since
then and Totem seems to work well now.

The hang was caused by the driver for my ATI Radeon X300 video card --
X300_cp.bin contained in the firmware-linux-nonfree package. This driver
does not coexist well with some of the newer software, especially the Gnome
desktop manager, gdm3.

Thanks

 Hello Paul!

Your bug report shows up as one of the highest priority tasks
on my debian maintainer dashbord since you've marked
 it as render package unusable.

I'm using totem myself and it works very well for me.
On the other hand my computer doesn't even contain
 a DVD drive

Are you sure about the severity? Maybe you overreacted and
want to consider lowering the severity of your bug report?
If not, please elaborate a bit on how the package is
unusable despite it looking to me like it works
 very well here.

I'm sorry, I'm not able to help you out much with your
problem... as mentioned I don't even have a DVD drive,
so it's hard for me to investigate your problem.

 Regards,
 Andreas Henriksson

Package: totem
Version: 3.8.2-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Upgraded recently to jessie from wheezy using Debian-testing-i386-netinst. The
Totem player would not start, displayed a dialog asking if I wanted to quit or
wait and then displayed the above error message.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Uninstalled totem, totem-common and related packages; reinstalled
all of the above; upgraded the libtotem-plparser18 package from 3.8.2 to
3.10.0-1 using the experimental repo.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Same error, no difference.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The DVD should play when inserted into the DVD player.
