Bug#741419: missing license in debian/copyright
On Mon, 17. Mar 20:38 Thorsten Alteholz alteh...@debian.org wrote: [...] Upstream just states that their own license is _similar_ to the Apache license. But this is not true. It is similar to an ancient version. It is by far not similar to what is nowadays called Apache license. But this is bean counting and has nothing todo with the real problem. The whole bug report is bean counting. There is either a problem with wrong licenses and a policy violation or not. Please take a closer took at those files. None of them is licensed under the Apache license. It is completely absurd what you are implying here. I can only come to the conclusion that the correct severity of this bug report should be either wishlist or minor. There is no policy violation. Ok, I admit that I am not a writer and my wording might be ambigious sometimes. So please tell me what you didn't understand so far. Maybe you want to refresh your memory by looking at some articles in the Wikipedia? After your clarification the remaining issues seem to be hamlet.xml, catalog.xml and catalog.xsl. All of them were once granted to the public domain. The catalog files were taken from ibiblio.org. I thought it was obvious but all files on ibiblio.org are in the public domain. http://www.ibiblio.org/share/#terms-of-use There is no need to remove anything from the sources. A new derivative work, jdom2, was created based on these free xml files. If you take one step back and look at the package description, you will see that jdom2 is a XML library. In my opinion it is perfectly clear that those xml files are not used in their original context anymore but are now part of a program that analyzes and modifies XML content. They are not simply put together with other files, they are part of this xml library. I personally perceive this bug report as unhelpful and as a special form of nitpicking. It simply monopolizes the free time of others for no good reasons. I still don't see any evidence that this package is not DFSG-compliant or that there is a policy violation. Bug#740285: src:dune-pdelab: FTBFS against libsuperlu-dev = 4.3
On 02/27/2014 22:05, Sébastien Villemot wrote: There is a name clash between headers from libalberta2-dev and libsuperlu-dev. According to the upstream bug report, alberta has renamed the function in recent source snapshots (and maybe in 3.0-rc7 available for download, this needs to be checked). So the right solution is probably to update alberta in Debian. Alterta-3.0 was released upstream[1]. So once the alberta package in Debian is fixed, I can take a look at fixing this issue. Bug#741236: +1
I can reproduce it. The greeter just froze after I've entered my username and password. I've switched to the console using Ctrl-Alt-F1, killed -9 the greeter, and it logged into DE session just fine. I've checked that libpam-systemd is installed. I've looked in all the logs mentioned in the comments above, but haven't found any errors in these logs in my system.

Bug#742030: gnumeric: dumps core when reading xls
Package: gnumeric Version: 1.12.12-1 Severity: serious I open a complex xls file that I have created with the old versions and maintained for years. I make a trivial mod and save it. I close gnumeric. When I reopen it, it dumps core as soon as the file is read. If, after making the same mod I save it in native format, I observe no problems. The file is complex and contains reserved data, so I should first try to reduce it to prepare a reproducible test case. I have the core dump. Bug#741419: missing license in debian/copyright
On Tue, 18 Mar 2014, Markus Koschany wrote: The whole bug report is bean counting. There is either a problem with wrong licenses and a policy violation or not. Please take a closer took at those files. None of them is licensed under the Apache license. It is completely absurd what you are implying here. I can cite again: nameSimilar to Apache License but with the acknowledgment clause removed/name here we have the Apache License. It is interesting that you copy the least important point to the beginning. After your clarification the remaining issues seem to be hamlet.xml, catalog.xml and catalog.xsl. All of them were once granted to the public domain. The catalog files were taken from ibiblio.org. I thought it was obvious but all files on ibiblio.org are in the public domain. You are funny, do you expect that everybody knows all websites? As licenses might change over time, such stuff needs to be documentend somewhere witbin the package. I would suggest debian/copyright According to your own arguments the file hamlet.xml now is under the jdom2 license. Is ibiblio.org in violation of this license? A new derivative work, jdom2, was created based on these free xml files. Please have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derivative_work The underlying work are the three files mentioned above. If you take one step back and look at the package description, you will see that jdom2 is a XML library. Yes In my opinion it is perfectly clear that those xml files are not used in their original context anymore but are now part of a program that analyzes and modifies XML content. The context does not matter, the content of the single file is important. They are not simply put together with other files, they are part of this xml library. The file hamlet.xml has been just copied from ibiblio.org and put into the package. I did not find any differences. So where are the substantial changes that would make it a derivative work? I personally perceive this bug report as unhelpful and as a special form of nitpicking. It is my assignment to nit-pick. So thanks for acknowledging my work. It simply monopolizes the free time of others for no good reasons. I still don't see any evidence that this package is not DFSG-compliant or that there is a policy violation. The file debian/copyright of the package is incomplete. This is a violation of policy. Thorsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. The other xml files under core/samples/ are trivial test files undoubtedly covered by the project license. hamlet.xml isn't used either. It's a test file for a performance test that isn't even executed during the build nor bundled in the binary package. Bug#721847: mkfs.btrfs -f
According mkfs.btrfs manpage the behaviour is expected: -f, --force Force overwrite when an existing filesystem is detected on the device. By default, mkfs.btrfs will not write to the device if it suspects that there is a filesystem or partition table on the device already. Bug#737903: totem unusable
Hello Andreas, You are right -- Totem is NOT the cause of my difficulties, therefore I am going to mark this bug as resolved. At the time, I had just installed Debian testing/unstable and the firmware-linux-nonfree package. Other problems with my video output besides the Totem hang showed up. I installed Debian oldstable (3.2.54-2) since then and Totem seems to work well now. The hang was caused by the driver for my ATI Radeon X300 video card -- X300_cp.bin contained in the firmware-linux-nonfree package. This driver does not coexist well with some of the newer software, especially the Gnome desktop manager, gdm3. Thanks On Sun, Mar 16, 2014 at 4:59 AM, Andreas Henriksson andr...@fatal.sewrote: Hello Paul! Your bug report shows up as one of the highest priority tasks on my debian maintainer dashbord since you've marked it as render package unusable. I'm using totem myself and it works very well for me. On the other hand my computer doesn't even contain a DVD drive Are you sure about the severity? Maybe you overreacted and want to consider lowering the severity of your bug report? If not, please elaborate a bit on how the package is unusable despite it looking to me like it works very well here. I'm sorry, I'm not able to help you out much with your problem... as mentioned I don't even have a DVD drive, so it's hard for me to investigate your problem. Regards, Andreas Henriksson
