Bug#742392: hurd: Hang during apt-get upgrade from last image release
I managed to upgrade the hurd packages by building my own where the hurd-console init.d script no longer is started on package installation or stopped on package removal, and also commented out the hurd-console block in /var/lib/dpkg/info/hurd.prerm: root@debian:~# cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/hurd.prerm #!/bin/sh set -e if [ $1 = remove ]; then update-alternatives --remove random /dev/random-hurd fi # Automatically added by dh_installinit #if [ -x /etc/init.d/hurd-console ]; then # invoke-rc.d hurd-console stop || exit $? #fi # End automatically added section root@debian:~# This made sure the console was not touched during upgrade, and now I was able to install the packages. But after boot, the machine got stuck trying to run the scripts in rc2.d/, and I was no longer able to log into the machine. As I understand this, kanjidic and the SKIP codes it embeds are freely redistributable under the licensing terms of kanjidic. That other licensing provisions for the SKIP codes may be made in other use cases (as detailed in Appendix F of the same document) seems quite irrelevant to me: you are questioning the DFSG-compliance of kanjidic (and by extension the package that includes it: tagainijisho) and as far as I can see, the whole content of the file `tagainijisho-[version number]/3rdparty/kanjidic2.xml', including the SKIP codes, are covered by the license stated at the top of the file: CC-BY-SA, which is DFSG-compliant. Bug#741221: Need more (legal) information
Le Tue, Mar 25, 2014 at 12:06:53PM +0100, Thibaut Varène a écrit : The kanjidic documentation states (emphasis is mine): The following people have granted permission for material for which they hold copyright to be included in the files, _and distributed under the above conditions_, while retaining their copyright over that material: Jack HALPERN: The SKIP codes in the KANJIDIC file. Hi Thibaut, looking at the link you sent, it seems that the “above conditions” are “KANJIDIC can be freely used provided satisfactory acknowledgement is made, and a number of other conditions are met”, which is quite vague. In addition, just below the part that you cited (“Jack HALPERN: The SKIP codes in the KANJIDIC file.”), there is “With regard to the SKIP codes, Mr Halpern draws your attention to the statement he has prepared on the matter, which is included at Appendix F.” To me, it appears that Appendix F, which has non-Free clauses, applies. Bug#736481: nettoe: FTBFS due to test suite failures
Hello, It seems that libncurses5-dev is added as build dependency at latest version (1.5-1) of nettoe. Due to that, libncurses5-dev and libtinfo-dev were installed. On configuration, term.h and libtermcap.so were found and it is guessed that TERM environment variable is defined. That was not the case in previous version (1.4.2-1), so nettoe has been built successfully. I have not figured out why TERM is defined on some build machines, and on others is not. However, it is possible to build nettoe without terminfo if TERM environment variable is not defined. A patch that contains these changes is attached. Could you consider applying this patch? Le 25 Mar 2014 13:07, Zooko Wilcox-OHearn a écrit: Would it satisfy the Debian policy if those Javascript files were stored in source form instead of minified form? The Debian policy is to avoid shipping external libraries inside a source package. Since libjs-jquery (1.7.2+dfsg-1) and libjs-d3 (3.3.13-1) are available in sid, the best is to use the minified js files provided by these two packages. Before doing that, we should check tahoe-lafs is really working with these version, since they are different from the ones provided with tahoe-lafs. Bug#735940:
Le 25 Mar 2014 14:41, Zooko Wilcox-OHearn a écrit: Yes, all files in src/allmydata/web/static ¹ get included into the package built by setup.py, because it is marked in setup.py as being package_data ². Does that answer your question? Oh, ok, I made a mess with my find invocation and missed the js files inside src/allmydata/web/static. So, a first solution would be to remove the .min.js upstream, add original .js and to do the minification at build time. Since the two js libraries are shipped in Debian the best would be to remove these js files completely (at least in the debian version of the sources) and to use the files provided by the debian packages. Creating a symlink between /usr/share/javascript/d3/d3.min.js (and others) and the static directory of tahoe-lafs (which seems to be /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/allmydata/web/static/ right now) would do the job. Another solution (as found in the libjs-rickshaw package) would be to replace all the references to a local foobar.min.js file in html files by the absolute path of the debian-provided js file with a quick and dirty sed -i in the debian rules (I have no idea of why is file is publicly accessible through a web server). I don't know how the webserver part of tahoe works, but it may also be possible to the directory /usr/share/javascript/ to the search path. By the way, it's just some ideas, I do not have any experience with js in debian packages and I do not have any time to work precisely on it these days. Bug#721421: Additional build failure
With the help of a hurd porterbox I have fixed bug #721420 enabling libdevel-bt-perl to build on hurd. Unfortunately the build still fails on hurd, due the the output from the backtrace not matching what is expected by the test, this due to it receiving the stack trace for the signal-handling thread [0]. I have included a copy of my build log from the porterbox. Bug#738789: libhamcrest-java: FTBFS: bad class file: hamcrest-core-1.3.jar(org/hamcrest/Description.class)
This issue is really intriguing. When the build fails hamcrest-core-1.3.jar is not corrupted (verified with zip --test) and the compiled Description.class file is always the same (the md5sum is constant in all cases). The random aspect of this bug leads me to think it's a kind of race condition between the part of the build that writes the jar and the part that reads it, but everything is executed sequentially so I'm not sure how this could actually happen. On Googling the error message I found this interesting bit in a python script used by Assembla to build Ant projects: http://subversion.assembla.com/svn/sivanea/trunk/src/buildscripts/antmake.py # Experience has shown that occasionally an ant build will cause an error # like the following: ''' [javac] DellDXConnector.java:14: cannot access com.perfectsearchcorp.feed.Connector [javac] bad class file: com/perfectsearchcorp/feed/Connector.class(com/perfectsearchcorp/feed:Connector.class) [javac] unable to access file: corrupted zip file [javac] Please remove or make sure it appears in the correct subdirectory of the classpath. [javac] import com.perfectsearchcorp.feed.Connector; [javac] ^ ''' # This error appears to be caused by a bug in how either ant or java itself # manages file handles for zip files on some platforms -- I think java is # sometimes opening the file for read before the handle for write is fully # released and flushed. So it may be either an Ant bug (but I reviewed the jar task code and the files seem to be properly closed) or a JVM bug on Linux. A simple workaround would be to mount the directory containing the hamcrest-core classes into the classpath instead of using the generated jar. forwarded 725957 http://sourceforge.net/p/gnudatalanguage/bugs/594/ kthxbye Hi, Thibaut Paumard wrote: Do you need help fixing plplot and gnudatalanguage so they can reach testing? As documented in the BTS I've forwarded the FTBFS to Sylwester Arabas (the one of the GDL upstream devs I had most contact with) by e-mail after I noticed them, but got no reply so far. He though opened an issue at their tracker just an hour ago: http://sourceforge.net/p/gnudatalanguage/bugs/594/ I think it would make sense to maintain them in a team, either debian-science (CC:) or debian-astro. I'm happy if someone else would help keeping GDL in Debian in shape or even wants to take over maintainership completely. We both, Gürkan and me, only maintain GDL in Debian because we need it at work. We don't use it ourselves. (I though won't join a team to maintain GDL. So if debian-science or debian-astro wants to take over, I won't join the team for that, they need to take over the package completely.) With regards to plplot: I reviewed it for sponsoring and there's a package at https://mentors.debian.net/package/plplot -- it's mostly fine with one exception, it should have version 5.9.10-1, not version 5.9.10-2. The older 5.9.10-1 package at the same location has more issues and fixing them resulted in the 5.9.10-2 upload to mentors. Bug#742392: hurd: Hang during apt-get upgrade from last image release
Hello, Downgrading my host kernel to 3.2 allowed me to reproduce the issue, and bisect the VGA driver changes down to a seemingly odd difference: the addition of unsigned char attr_mode; in the vga_state structure. Yes, that is what makes qemu completely hang with hwaccel on linux kernel 3.2. Putting some padding after that, i.e. unsigned char attr_mode, pad1, pad2, pad3; gets rid of the issue. My guess is that the additional byte unaligns videomem and fontmem, and then the memcpies between VGA memory and main RAM are unaligned, thus using some other code, which perhaps wasn't properly emulated by linux 3.2. Peter, could you try to put http://dept-info.labri.fr/~thibault/tmp/vga.so.0.3 into /usr/lib/hurd/console/ and start your Hurd console? That one does work for me and on Richard's VMs. Samuel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
