Bug#742790: is it worth it?
I wonder why you keep patching an old, outdated and unstable version, when there's the new one (2.0.x) available. There's even a bug report [1] about that. Bug#743734: ntfs-3g: Data corruption when using rtorrent
Hi, ntfs-3g spitting out a lot of errors, rtorrent crashing with a SIGBUS exception, and the NTFS partition being corrupted. Hmm. Probably bug introduced in 2013.1.13AR.4 through either http://sourceforge.net/p/ntfs-3g/ntfs-3g/ci/d2c7d40a2b494f9bf355c8bbe78c24fa16925f86/ or the subsequent http://sourceforge.net/p/ntfs-3g/ntfs-3g/ci/ea8e19261358216fd9ed28c7281ac9f88c021c28/ Please help me fix it. When switching back to ntfs-3g from testing, rtorrent downloads the file without errors. What do you mean ? Is the issue un-repeatable, or did you switch to an earlier version ? Anyway : 1) Please save the syslog and the chkdsk report, in case I need to check something later (I have enough information in your report for now). Note : the chkdsk report can be found in System Volume Information/Chkdsk/Chkdsk*.log it is encoded in utf-16le. Select the right one by date. 2) Can you retry with only the first patch mentioned above applied. Get the 2013.1.13AR.3 source and only apply the first patch. Does the bug show ? 3) If the bug does not show, apply both patches and retry. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance if needed. Bug#742822: Bug#713135: startpar-bridge causes rc to hang with a variety of job types and situations
[Petter Reinholdtsen] I've just commited the changes I believe are required for startpar to git. Please have a look at check if I forgot something. URL: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/startpar Note, I discovered that by mistake the startpar package did not include the file in /etc/init/ at all, so there never was two files present to do the injection. This made the fix a bit easier than expected. I am unsure if I should break/replace 2.88dsf-52 or 2.88dsf-53 (ie next upload). Opinions? I tested with 2.88dsf-52, and it seemed to work fine. The new startpar package is uploaded to experimental now. Please test it alongside the sysvinit package in experimental, and let me know if there are any problems with the upstart stuff? If I do not hear anything, I'll assume it is OK and upload both sysvinit and upstart to unstable in a few days. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Craig Small csm...@debian.org (2014-04-06): It's also sad that buildds have changed behaviour and noone knows why. Also, the program runs fine in normal circumstances but dies during the buildd. Sorry, it doesn't work on *some* buildds for the same architecture. I've asked for help, got almost none so I'm not interested in trying to fix the buildds, this is a almost-duplicate of 725743 Maybe I missed it, but I don't see any mails from you on debian-wb-team@. Bug#743734: ntfs-3g: Data corruption when using rtorrent
Hello, What do you mean ? Is the issue un-repeatable, or did you switch to an earlier version ? I meant downgrading to the earlier version that is still in testing (1:2013.1.13AR.1-2) I haven't seen this problem with that version but when upgrading to AR.4-2, the errors pop-up again. 2) Can you retry with only the first patch mentioned above applied. Get the 2013.1.13AR.3 source and only apply the first patch. Does the bug show ? I had not tried to use version ...AR.3-4, so I did that first. When using version AR.3-4, I could download debian-7.4.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso fine with rtorrent. No errors at all. After that I patched it with http://sourceforge.net/p/ntfs-3g/ntfs-3g/ci/d2c7d40a2b494f9bf355c8bbe78c24fa16925f86/ This is what you meant with the first patch, right? I removed debian-7.4.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso again and removed the torrent from rtorrent. Installed the ntfs-3g with the first patch (d2c7...). Unmounted and mounted the partition. Started rtorrent and loaded the torrent. Then the errors popped up again. * /var/log/syslog Apr 6 16:03:41 sidi7 ntfs-3g[8831]: Unmounting /dev/sdb2 (Data) Apr 6 16:03:52 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: Version 2013.1.13AR.3 integrated FUSE 28 Apr 6 16:03:52 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: Mounted /dev/sdb2 (Read-Write, label Data, NTFS 3.1) Apr 6 16:03:52 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: Cmdline options: rw,noexec Apr 6 16:03:52 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: Mount options: rw,noexec,allow_other,nonempty,relatime,fsname=/dev/sdb2,blkdev,blksize=4096 Apr 6 16:03:52 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: Ownership and permissions disabled, configuration type 7 Apr 6 16:05:08 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: ntfs_attr_update_mapping_pairs_i: get MP size failed: Invalid argument Apr 6 16:05:08 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: ntfs_rl_get_compressed_size: bad runlist: Invalid argument Apr 6 16:05:08 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: ntfs_rl_get_compressed_size: bad runlist: Invalid argument Apr 6 16:05:08 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: ntfs_rl_get_compressed_size: bad runlist: Invalid argument Apr 6 16:05:08 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: ntfs_rl_get_compressed_size: bad runlist: Invalid argument Apr 6 16:05:08 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: ntfs_rl_get_compressed_size: bad runlist: Invalid argument Apr 6 16:05:08 sidi7 ntfs-3g[25445]: ntfs_rl_get_compressed_size: bad runlist: Invalid argument After that i quit rtorrent, I did not wait for the SIGBUS in rtorrent or any other messages. An optimal solution would consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and diversions should only be used when packages provide different implementations for the same functionality. Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages (according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be slightly out of sync): /usr/share/ada/debian_packaging.mk This bug has been filed against both packages. If you, the maintainers of the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may then also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug. -Ralf. Bug#743734: ntfs-3g: Data corruption when using rtorrent
Hi, deb...@niek.gr wrote: Hello, What do you mean ? Is the issue un-repeatable, or did you switch to an earlier version ? I meant downgrading to the earlier version that is still in testing (1:2013.1.13AR.1-2) I haven't seen this problem with that version but when upgrading to AR.4-2, the errors pop-up again. 2) Can you retry with only the first patch mentioned above applied. Get the 2013.1.13AR.3 source and only apply the first patch. Does the bug show ? I had not tried to use version ...AR.3-4, so I did that first. When using version AR.3-4, I could download debian-7.4.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso fine with rtorrent. No errors at all. After that I patched it with http://sourceforge.net/p/ntfs-3g/ntfs-3g/ci/d2c7d40a2b494f9bf355c8bbe78c24fa16925f86/ This is what you meant with the first patch, right? I removed debian-7.4.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso again and removed the torrent from rtorrent. Installed the ntfs-3g with the first patch (d2c7...). Unmounted and mounted the partition. Started rtorrent and loaded the torrent. Then the errors popped up again. Thank you for testing. It confirms what I have found in the meantime, and I have even found the cause. I do not need the logs I asked, you can drop them. Can you please try the attached patch over the latest version 2013.1.13AR.4 ? And I would also like to know whether there is a difference in the execution times between 2013.1.13AR.3 and 2013.1.13AR.4 (with the new patch applied - if successful of course). Just mount, make a rather big torrent download, and note the execution time of the ntfs mounting process, before unmounting (just do ps -ef | grep ntfs) Jean-Pierre --- libntfs-3g/attrib.c.ref 2014-04-06 16:17:27.0 +0200 +++ libntfs-3g/attrib.c 2014-04-06 18:32:32.0 +0200 @@ -5662,6 +5668,11 @@ from_vcn = 0; } } + if (ntfs_attr_map_partial_runlist(na, from_vcn)) { + ntfs_log_error(Could not map partial runlist for updating\n); + errno = EIO; + return (-1); + } #endif if (na-ni-nr_extents == -1) base_ni = na-ni-base_ni;

Bug#743734: ntfs-3g: Data corruption when using rtorrent
Hoi, Thank you for testing. It confirms what I have found in the meantime, and I have even found the cause. I do not need the logs I asked, you can drop them. Can you please try the attached patch over the latest version 2013.1.13AR.4 ? Done, no errors anymore. And I would also like to know whether there is a difference in the execution times between 2013.1.13AR.3 and 2013.1.13AR.4 (with the new patch applied - if successful of course). Just mount, make a rather big torrent download, and note the execution time of the ntfs mounting process, before unmounting (just do ps -ef | grep ntfs) Sorry I don't understand what to do. ps -ef has a column time but that only says 1 second, is that what you are looking for? Bug#743734: ntfs-3g: Data corruption when using rtorrent
Hi, I have attached a different variant of the patch, which I prefer because it should have less overhead. Can you try it also ? Yep that one works too. Too bad, this is probably what I wanted, but your download does not lead to measurable times. Good news for ntfs-3g performance anyway. So forget about it. What kind of time scale did you expect? Later the time was a little bit more but not over 10 seconds. With the new patch i got 5 seconds after downloading ~2GB. I have no idea how much that was with the former patch. Well thanks for the experience with patching and building packages. :) -- Niek -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? So that will be the one which I will promote upon further testing. Too bad, this is probably what I wanted, but your download does not lead to measurable times. With the new patch i got 5 seconds after downloading ~2GB. I have no idea how much that was with the former patch. Torrent-type downloads use several concurrent dowloading threads feeding the file chunks in apparent random order. For each chunk, the full list of fragments was initially recompressed, and with the patch (the faulty one), the list is only recompressed from the downloaded chunk to the end. So, with a random chunk order, a factor of 2 was expected, which your figures confirm. The difference between the two patch variants should be much smaller. Hi, So, with a random chunk order, a factor of 2 was expected, which your figures confirm. The difference between the two patch variants should be much smaller. Well i think with the former I did a little more downloading. So I can't make any conclusions from that. Then I have to do a more controlled test. But i have no idea how to do that with all the buffered IO, etc. -- Niek -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#743729: ruby: badly handle transition away from alternatives, breaks dependant packages
reassign 743729 ruby retitle 743729 ruby: badly handles transition away from alternatives, breaks dependant packages found 743729 ruby/1:2.0.0.1 thanks The problem is not as simple as I originally thought (trused updatedb locate cache too much): strace reveals the ruby version for which debian_version is looking for is 1.8, and current ruby-debian only ships modules for 1.9.1 and 2.0.0. # ls -l /usr/bin/ruby lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Apr 5 18:15 /usr/bin/ruby - /etc/alternatives/ruby # update-alternatives --config ruby There is only one alternative in link group ruby (providing /usr/bin/ruby): /usr/bin/ruby1.8 Nothing to configure. I guess the problem comes from stopping using alternatives, without properly declares a Conflicts with obsolete ruby versions ? Well, #740733 seems to show that this was done in the past, and this issue is already discussed in its followup... As for unbreaking the impacted machines: * purging ruby1.8 leaves the system without /usr/bin/ruby or any of the symlinks previously managed as alternatives * although those symlinks are still listed as part of the ruby package, no mechanism seems to prevent this deadly interference with alternatives * creating a ruby - ruby2.0 manually allows to easily require reinstallation of the ruby package Isn't the real problem that dpkg allowed unpacking of conflicting symlinks in the first place ? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Sorry for not having a chance to look at this sooner. Alexander then replied as follows: The real problem in lazarus package. Lazarus can not build any LCL-Qt application that uses controls from lazarus/components directory. It is because this components marked as manually build in lazarus debian package (lazarus debian rules file manually change it). In RPM distros (Fedora for example) they marked as automatically build (that is upstream default behavior) so there are no such problem. I make a workaround that worked in previous lazarus versions (forced build of some components from lazarus directory, that you can see in components/build.sh). But now it does not work because they depends on each other. That assumption needs proof. If it is true, I will fix it, but for now I'll try to reproduce it. I have confirmed this by simply commenting out the section that builds doublecmd-qt in debian/rules and the doublecmd-gtk package builds without problem. This does not proof that Lazarus is faulty.
