Bug#746941: Proposed solution
I would suggest that the initscript disable itself in the absence of some non-conffile file in the dnsmasq package. E.g., add a file /usr/lib/dnsmasq/package-is-installed to the package and add a line of code to the beginning initscript like the following. [ -e /usr/lib/dnsmasq/package-is-installed ] || exit 0 The file /usr/lib/dnsmasq/package-is-installed could include a comment explaining the purpose of the file. -- Thomas Hood

Bug#743554: Proposed Fix
Hi Scott, As you can see on the upstream report [1], I am afraid that this exposes a real bug somewhere in writing or reading FITS files or in the checksum calculation. Since this may lead to data loss, I don't want to make 0.3.1 enter testing unless I get a clear response that everything is OK here, so that they close the issue. astropy-0.4 is on the way during the next month anyway, and 0.3.2 is finallizing, so I hope that there is something in there. Please no NMU here unless there is a clear confirmation from upstream. Bug#746579: libwww-perl: HTTPS_CA_DIR or HTTPS_CA_FILE disables peer certificate verification for IO::Socket::SSL
* Jakub Wilk jw...@debian.org, 2014-05-02, 15:44: So the intention was to disable only hostname verification, for compatibility with Crypt::SSLeay (why?!), but the effect is that the SSL_verify_mode is set to 0. To elaborate a bit on my why?!: * There's nothing in the names of HTTPS_CA_* that would suggests that these variables are specific to Crypt::SSLeay, or LWP, or even Perl. So people might have them set in their environment for purposes unrelated to Crypt::SSLeay. * I suspect that these days many users of LWP don't even know what Crypt::SSLeay is. * There is nothing in the LWP documentation that suggests that setting HTTPS_CA_* might have negative security effect. If for some reason (I can't see such reason, but maybe I'm missing something) disabling hostname verification is desirable when HTTPS_CA_* is set, then it should be prominently documented. Regarding the proposed patch, I have doubts whether it is correct. My understanding of the documentation[0] is that, contrary to what the name of the option suggests, verify_hostname is supposed to enable/disable both certificate verification and that the certificate matches hostname. But after this patch applied, it will affect only the latter. If FALSE no checks are made and you can’t be sure that you communicate with the expected peer.” -- Jakub Wilk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#746358: Boot hangs if fstab contains NFS entries
Hi, I also have some NFS entries in my /etc/fstab and I manually patched /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs as suggested after I upgraded the system. However: the system still hangs on startup for 1-2 minutes saying: [ OK ] Started LSB: NFS support files common to client and server [ **] (X of Y) A start job is running for location The good thing though is, it is not a deadlock. But of course I don't want to wait several minutes for my system to boot. Your patch doesn't fix *this* issue. I'm using the network-manager package to connect to my local network. Bug#746358: Boot hangs if fstab contains NFS entries
Hi Daniel, Am 04.05.2014 11:20, schrieb Daniel Leidert: I also have some NFS entries in my /etc/fstab and I manually patched /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs as suggested after I upgraded the system. The issue you are seeing is a slightly different one. I'll try to explain the reasons for it. We switched to native remote mount handling (previously, we relied on the mountnfs ifup.d hook for that). We also added support for LSB defined facilities in 204-9. That means, with 204-9, the /etc/init.d/networking init script will activate the network.target. As soon as that target is active, systemd will mount the remote file systems defined in /etc/fstab. In your case, you do not actually use ifupdown to bring up the network. As a result, when systemd tries to mount the NFS share, the network is not yet up and the mount request will time out. Unfortunately, we can't easily make NetworkManager.service pull in network.target, because with our current support for rcS type services this would create a dependency loop. I would suggest, that if you are using NetworkManager, you switch your NFS mount to use comment=systemd.automount to delay the actual mount request until it is accessed. This could also constitute a license violation for some copyleft licenses such as the GNU GPL. In order to solve this problem, you could: 1. repack the origin tarball adding the missing source to it. 2 add the source files to debian/missing-sources directory Both way satisfies the requirement that we ship the source. Second option might be preferable due to the following reasons [2]: - Upstream can do it too and you could even supply a patch to them, thus full filling our social contract [3], see particularly §2. - If source and non-source are in different locations, ftpmasters may miss the source and (needlessly) reject the package. - The source isn't duplicated in every .diff.gz/.debian.tar.* (though this only really matters for larger sources). You could also ask debian...@lists.debian.org or #debian-qa for more guidance. Package: probabel Version: 0.4.3-1 Severity: serious Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past) From version 0.4.2-2 to version 0.4.3-1, probabel changed the architecture list from: | Architecture: any to | Architecture: amd64 armel armhf hurd-i386 i386 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 | mipsel alpha x32 This is not mentionned in the changelog and thus we don't know the reason. If you compile with JDK7 and the target set to 1.6, it works as expected. $ javac -version javac 1.7.0_55 $ javac -source 1.6 -target 1.6 Test.java $ java -jar /usr/share/java/emma.jar -cp . Bug#723880: Updating bubbros
Control: severity -1 wishlist Control: retitle -1 transform the original levels to python code On Mon, May 5, 2014 at 2:22 AM, Juhani Numminen wrote: I’d like to help with the bubbros package. Currently it’s not in testing because of an RC bug. https://bugs.debian.org/723880 I’m writing this mail before committing to version control as per pkg-games guidelines. I'm not sure that this bug makes much sense. AFAICT MacBinary is just an encoding format like uuencode, tar.gz, zip and so on. We even have tools in Debian main to encode/decode it. The files are under a free license. bubbros has code to decode these files into internal level structures. The original shareware version of this game had an in-game editor where the binary level files were created and edited. No other form of these levels exists now nor existed in the shareware version so they are the source (under DFSG 2) AFAICT. It would be nice if the new upstream were to use standard modern Linux formats (like Python code) instead of MacBinary but there is no inequality between upstream and Debian users so I don't think this is a DFSG issue. Changing severity and title as appropriate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBinary https://packages.debian.org/sid/macutils https://wayback.archive.org/web/20060615051831/http://www.mcsebi.de/bb1.php -- bye, pabs http://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#746579: libwww-perl: HTTPS_CA_DIR or HTTPS_CA_FILE disables peer certificate verification for IO::Socket::SSL
Hi Jakub, On Sun, May 04, 2014 at 10:50:24AM +0200, Jakub Wilk wrote: * Jakub Wilk jw...@debian.org, 2014-05-02, 15:44: So the intention was to disable only hostname verification, for compatibility with Crypt::SSLeay (why?!), but the effect is that the SSL_verify_mode is set to 0. [0] “When TRUE LWP will for secure protocol schemes ensure it connects to servers that have a valid certificate matching the expected hostname. If FALSE no checks are made and you can’t be sure that you communicate with the expected peer.” Thanks for elaborating this and taking time. I have not yet uploaded a package with the commit applied. There is some discussion going on the issue tracker at [1], which clarification from upstream of IO::Socket::SSL at [2].
