Bug#746941: Proposed solution

2014-05-04 Thread Thomas Hood
I would suggest that the initscript disable itself in the absence of some
non-conffile file in the dnsmasq package. E.g., add a
file /usr/lib/dnsmasq/package-is-installed to the package and add a line of
code to the beginning initscript like the following.

[ -e /usr/lib/dnsmasq/package-is-installed ] || exit 0

The file /usr/lib/dnsmasq/package-is-installed could include a comment
explaining the purpose of the file.

Bug#743554: Proposed Fix

2014-05-04 Thread Ole Streicher
Hi Scott,

As you can see on the upstream report [1], I am afraid that this exposes
a real bug somewhere in writing or reading FITS files or in the checksum
calculation. Since this may lead to data loss, I don't want to make
0.3.1 enter testing unless I get a clear response that everything is OK
here, so that they close the issue. astropy-0.4 is on the way during the
next month anyway, and 0.3.2 is finallizing, so I hope that there is
something in there.

Please no NMU here unless there is a clear confirmation from upstream.

Best

Ole

I've updated the test.
It should have failed in previous versions too but did not because of the
bug in LWP::Protocol::https which got just fixed :)
I've also added another fix to make it also workable for the old
Net::SSL/Crypt::SSLeay.
Still the same pull request.

t/010-xs.t is unreliable (at least on i386) and randomly segfaults on
the Ubuntu build daemons. On investigation, this is because the last
block of tests construct packets containing random data after the
header, but this includes things like length fields, causing the parser
to sometimes jump off into space. It would be sufficient for the
purposes of this test to construct packets with generally-valid formats
and only fill random data into fields that are actually allowed to
contain arbitrary data. Would something like this patch be acceptable?

  * Fix packet parsing tests to construct valid packets.

Bug#746579: libwww-perl: HTTPS_CA_DIR or HTTPS_CA_FILE disables peer certificate verification for IO::Socket::SSL

2014-05-04 Thread Jakub Wilk

* Jakub Wilk jw...@debian.org, 2014-05-02, 15:44:
So the intention was to disable only hostname verification, for
compatibility with Crypt::SSLeay (why?!), but the effect is that the
SSL_verify_mode is set to 0.

To elaborate a bit on my why?!:

* There's nothing in the names of HTTPS_CA_* that would suggests that
these variables are specific to Crypt::SSLeay, or LWP, or even Perl. So
people might have them set in their environment for purposes unrelated
to Crypt::SSLeay.

* I suspect that these days many users of LWP don't even know what
Crypt::SSLeay is.

* There is nothing in the LWP documentation that suggests that setting
HTTPS_CA_* might have negative security effect.

If for some reason (I can't see such reason, but maybe I'm missing
something) disabling hostname verification is desirable when HTTPS_CA_*
is set, then it should be prominently documented.

Regarding the proposed patch, I have doubts whether it is correct.
My understanding of the documentation[0] is that, contrary to what the
name of the option suggests, verify_hostname is supposed to
enable/disable both certificate verification and that the certificate
matches hostname. But after this patch applied, it will affect only the
latter.

[0] “When TRUE LWP will for secure protocol schemes ensure it connects
to servers that have a valid certificate matching the expected hostname.
If FALSE no checks are made and you can’t be sure that you communicate
with the expected peer.”

Bug#746358: Boot hangs if fstab contains NFS entries

2014-05-04 Thread Daniel Leidert

Hi,

I also have some NFS entries in my /etc/fstab and I manually
patched /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs as suggested after I upgraded the
system. However: the system still hangs on startup for 1-2 minutes
saying:

[ OK ] Started LSB: NFS support files common to client and server
[ **] (X of Y) A start job is running for location

The good thing though is, it is not a deadlock. But of course I don't
want to wait several minutes for my system to boot. Your patch doesn't
fix *this* issue.

I'm using the network-manager package to connect to my local network.

Regards, Daniel

Bug#746358: Boot hangs if fstab contains NFS entries

2014-05-04 Thread Michael Biebl
Hi Daniel,

Am 04.05.2014 11:20, schrieb Daniel Leidert:
I also have some NFS entries in my /etc/fstab and I manually
patched /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs as suggested after I upgraded the
system. However: the system still hangs on startup for 1-2 minutes
 saying:

[ OK ] Started LSB: NFS support files common to client and server
 [ **] (X of Y) A start job is running for location

The good thing though is, it is not a deadlock. But of course I don't
want to wait several minutes for my system to boot. Your patch doesn't
 fix *this* issue.

I'm using the network-manager package to connect to my local network.

The issue you are seeing is a slightly different one. I'll try to
explain the reasons for it.

We switched to native remote mount handling (previously, we relied on
the mountnfs ifup.d hook for that).

We also added support for LSB defined facilities in 204-9.
That means, with 204-9, the /etc/init.d/networking init script will
activate the network.target.

As soon as that target is active, systemd will mount the remote file
systems defined in /etc/fstab.

In your case, you do not actually use ifupdown to bring up the network.
As a result, when systemd tries to mount the NFS share, the network is
not yet up and the mount request will time out.

Unfortunately, we can't easily make NetworkManager.service pull in
network.target, because with our current support for rcS type services
this would create a dependency loop.

I would suggest, that if you are using NetworkManager, you switch your
NFS mount to use comment=systemd.automount to delay the actual mount
request until it is accessed.

Regards,
Michael

On a system using systemd as the init system, pcp fails to build with
the following error:

A quick look at the configure script shows that it expect systemd to be
installed at another location than the one in Debian.

On i386, pcp ships the upstream binary src/pmdas/mmv/mmvdump into

Debian policy and might be used by upstream to introduce backdoors or

Hi,

Your package seems to include some files that lack sources
in prefered forms of modification:

gourmet/plugins/web_plugin/gourmetweb/templates/jquery.js

According to Debian Free Software Guidelines [1] (DFSG) #2:
The program must include source code, and must allow distribution
in source code as well as compiled form..

This could also constitute a license violation for some copyleft licenses such
as the GNU GPL.

In order to solve this problem, you could:
1. repack the origin tarball adding the missing source to it.
2 add the source files to debian/missing-sources directory

Both way satisfies the requirement that we ship the source. Second option
might be preferable due to the following reasons [2]:
 - Upstream can do it too and you could even supply a patch to them, thus full
filling our social contract [3], see particularly §2.
 - If source and non-source are in different locations, ftpmasters may
miss the source and (needlessly) reject the package.
 - The source isn't duplicated in every .diff.gz/.debian.tar.* (though
this only really matters for larger sources).

You could also ask debian...@lists.debian.org or #debian-qa for more
guidance.

2014-05-04 Thread Moritz Wilhelmy
Hello,

I just wanted to point out that this bug also affects OSS4 on wheezy
with a backported kernel 3.13-0.bpo.1.

Will this fix be committed to wheezy as well?

Best regards,

Moritz

Hi,

The following change has been committed for this bug by
 Manoj Srivastava sriva...@golden-gryphon.com on Sun, 4 May 2014 10:49:16
-0700.
The fix will be in the next upload.
=
[master]: Try get to a working state.

* Set the kernel-package version correctly in the new dh build.
* The new make is pickier about spacing. Update white spaces to work
with the new make. (Closes: #746950).
* brought back the armel configuration. This should allow building there
  again. (Closes: #664854).

Bug#747008: probabel: FTBFS on mipsel (+ probably on alpha and on x32)

2014-05-04 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: probabel
Version: 0.4.3-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

From version 0.4.2-2 to version 0.4.3-1, probabel changed the
architecture list from:

| Architecture: any

to

| Architecture: amd64 armel armhf hurd-i386 i386 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386
| mipsel alpha x32

This is not mentionned in the changelog and thus we don't know the
reason. In addition multi-line fields are not supported in
debian/control and thus the package fails to build on at least mipsel,
but probably also on alpha and x32.

Bug#747028: gnustep-make causes FTBFS of SOGo with make 4.0

2014-05-04 Thread Jeroen Dekkers
Package: gnustep-make
Version: 2.6.2-2.1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

A bug in one of the makefiles of gnustep-make causes SOGo to FTBFS
with make 4.0. The problem is that in two places there is a '/'
appended to a directory target and apparently that isn't allowed
anymore. This has already been fixed upstream with this commit:

http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/gnustep?view=revisionrevision=36185

The fix is included in the latest upstream release, so packaging the
latest version will fix the bug.

In particular, this makes an autoconf-generated configure script
fail very early:

checking whether we are cross compiling... configure: error: in
`/tmp/mpfrtests-vlefevre-6206/obj':
configure: error: cannot run C compiled programs.

(this test is not specific to MPFR, it's just an autoconf test).
This makes llvm-gcc unusable in practice.

Bug#747033: offlineimap uses OpenSSL, causing Debian to violate the GPL when distributing it

2014-05-04 Thread Simon Fondrie-Teitler
Package: offlineimap
Version: 6.5.5-0.1
Severity: serious
Justification: 2.3

Dear Maintainer,

offlineimap/imaplib2.py currently uses Python's ssl library, which
pulls in OpenSSL as described here:
https://docs.python.org/2/license.html#openssl

Additionally offlineimap/folder/Maildir.py uses the md5 function from
the ssl library if available, and offlineimap/imaplibutil.py uses the
sha1 function. Both of these also use OpenSSL code.

The GPL and the OpenSSL license are incompatible. See the following
debian-legal thread for more information.
https://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2002/10/msg00113.html

Regards,
Simon Fondrie-Teitler

Bug#747027: emma does not work with Java 7 bytecode

2014-05-04 Thread tony mancill
On 05/04/2014 01:16 PM, Julian Andres Klode wrote:

Running emma on bytecode generated by openjdk-7's javac fails, but it
works fine on Java code produced by openjdk 6. JDK 6 will not be part
 of jessie.

Hi Julian,

This appears to be a general issue with emma, which hasn't been updated
since 2005. If you compile with JDK7 and the target set to 1.6, it
works as expected.

$ javac -version
javac 1.7.0_55
$ javac -source 1.6 -target 1.6 Test.java
$ java -jar /usr/share/java/emma.jar -cp . Test
EMMA: writing [txt] report to [/tmp/coverage.txt] ...

So I believe the question is whether emma provides any value to users if
it only supports source and target 1.6. If it doesn't, then we should
request its removal. Otherwise, I think the severity of this bug should
be decreased.

Thank,
tony

Bug#723880: Updating bubbros

2014-05-04 Thread Paul Wise
Control: severity -1 wishlist
Control: retitle -1 transform the original levels to python code

I’m writing this mail before committing to version control as per
 pkg-games guidelines.

I'm not sure that this bug makes much sense. AFAICT MacBinary is just
an encoding format like uuencode, tar.gz, zip and so on. We even have
tools in Debian main to encode/decode it. The files are under a free
license. bubbros has code to decode these files into internal level
structures. The original shareware version of this game had an in-game
editor where the binary level files were created and edited. No other
form of these levels exists now nor existed in the shareware version
so they are the source (under DFSG 2) AFAICT. It would be nice if the
new upstream were to use standard modern Linux formats (like Python
code) instead of MacBinary but there is no inequality between upstream
and Debian users so I don't think this is a DFSG issue. Changing
severity and title as appropriate.

Bug#746579: libwww-perl: HTTPS_CA_DIR or HTTPS_CA_FILE disables peer certificate verification for IO::Socket::SSL

2014-05-04 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi Jakub,

So the intention was to disable only hostname verification, for
compatibility with Crypt::SSLeay (why?!), but the effect is that
the SSL_verify_mode is set to 0.

To elaborate a bit on my why?!:

 * There's nothing in the names of HTTPS_CA_* that would suggests
that these variables are specific to Crypt::SSLeay, or LWP, or even
Perl. So people might have them set in their environment for
 purposes unrelated to Crypt::SSLeay.

 * I suspect that these days many users of LWP don't even know what
 Crypt::SSLeay is.

 * There is nothing in the LWP documentation that suggests that
setting HTTPS_CA_* might have negative security effect.

If for some reason (I can't see such reason, but maybe I'm missing
something) disabling hostname verification is desirable when
HTTPS_CA_* is set, then it should be prominently documented.

Regarding the proposed patch, I have doubts whether it is correct.
My understanding of the documentation[0] is that, contrary to what
the name of the option suggests, verify_hostname is supposed to
enable/disable both certificate verification and that the
certificate matches hostname. But after this patch applied, it will
 affect only the latter.

[0] “When TRUE LWP will for secure protocol schemes ensure it
connects to servers that have a valid certificate matching the
expected hostname. If FALSE no checks are made and you can’t be sure
that you communicate with the expected peer.”

Thanks for elaborating this and taking time.

I have not yet uploaded a package with the commit applied. There is
some discussion going on the issue tracker at [1], which clarification
from upstream of IO::Socket::SSL at [2].
