Bug#897009: uimaj: CVE-2017-15691: XML external entity expansion (XXE) attack exposure

2018-04-26 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Source: uimaj
Version: 2.4.0-2
Severity: grave
Tags: security upstream

Hi,

The following vulnerability was published for uimaj, filling for now
with RC severity.

CVE-2017-15691[0]:
| In Apache uimaj prior to 2.10.2, Apache uimaj 3.0.0-xxx prior to
| 3.0.0-beta, Apache uima-as prior to 2.10.2, Apache uimaFIT prior to
| 2.4.0, Apache uimaDUCC prior to 2.2.2, this vulnerability relates to
| an XML external entity expansion (XXE) capability of various XML
| parsers. UIMA as part of its configuration and operation may read XML
| from various sources, which could be tainted in ways to cause
| inadvertent disclosure of local files or other internal content.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id in your changelog entry.

Hi,

OpenSSL 1.1.0 is about to released. During a rebuild of all packages using
OpenSSL this package fail to build. A log of that build can be found at:
https://breakpoint.cc/openssl-1.1-rebuild-2016-05-29/Attempted/libzypp_15.3.0-1_amd64-20160529-1446

On https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/1.1_API_Changes you can see
various of the

reasons why it might fail. There are also updated man pages at
https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/ that should contain useful
information.

There is a libssl-dev package available in experimental that
contains a recent

snapshot, I suggest you try building against that to see if everything works.

If you have problems making things work, feel free to contact us.

Kurt

Sorry for the late reply on this. The OpenSSL FTBFS should have been
fixed in 16.4.3-1.

In preparation of using autopkgtest results for unstable-to-testing
migration, I am running autopkgtests with migration candidates from
unstable in testing. I noticed that recent versions of starlink-*
packages run successfully in unstable, but starjava-topcat (and also
starjava-table, but I haven't investigated that further yet) fails in
testing¹ when I use the packages from starjava-votable from unstable
with the error copied below². I tried multiple combinations of pulling
in other packages from unstable and when I also pull in starjava-fits
packages, then the autopkgtest of starjava-topcat passes. This is a
clear indication that some of the packages from starjava-votable (I
believe tarlink-votable-java) need versioned dependencies on some of the
packages of starjava-fits.

Please investigate this issue and don't hesitate to ask for more
information about the test setup if needed, or addition tests (you can
trigger them yourself as well via the new ci.d.n API³.

Since the package only recommends binfmt-support, you need a Breaks

(A versioned Recommends: binfmt-support (>= 2.1.7) will not work, since
it may be ignored.)

Hi,
Currently, nx-libs FTBFS (likely only probabilistically) when built with
parallel > 1; this occurred on the ia64 buildd lenz[1], but I have
reproduced it locally in an amd64 cowbuilder chroot.

Please either fix the Makefile dependency issues, or disable parallel
cleaning.

Regards,
James

gimp 2.10 RC 1 (now in experimental) contains
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/wavelet-decompose, which overlaps with this
package. Can you please remove it from this package so it is superseded by
gimp, and gimp can Breaks/Replaces on an older version of this package?

Thanks,

pygtk is unmaintained upstream. It has not had a release since GNOME 3
was released in 2011.

The way forward is to port your app to use GObject Introspection
bindings.

For more information on GObject Introspection see [1] and [2].

Please try to do this before the Buster release as we're going to
try to remove pygtk this cycle.

If you have any question don't hesitate to ask.

I would strongly recommend against the "parallel stack" part.

Ack. Also patch contributions become more complicated then.

autotools are mature and widely used, there is nothing bad about
using them.

Yep. Noted.

meson is the shiny new tool.
It is still evolving with slight breakages here and there,
but already used widely enough to limit the amount of breakage
that can happen.

Depending on your personal preferences either would be a good choice,
but doing both would bring you double work and double bugs for no
benefit.

Ack.

This parallelism bug in nx-libs I will close for now with
--no-parallel everywhere in debian/rules after some futile attempts on
the upstream side to get the Makefile dependency tree fixed. I have
now started working in the autotools port of nxagent Xserver.

Bug#894667: beep bug

2018-04-26 Thread Neal P. Murphy
How similar is beep to beep2? I use beep2 on Smoothwall Express. It is not
installed suid root. Rather, I changed beep2's default output device to
/dev/tty13 (would be just as easy to use tty63) and changed the perms on that
TTY to 622. Without suid root, beep2 can only open files for input or output
for which its user has access; with similar treatment, beep should be almost
properly limited.

Bug#896998: python-pip: missing required _vendor module in 9.0.1-2.1

2018-04-26 Thread Paul Gevers
Source: python-pip
Version: 9.0.1-2.1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: regression

With the upload of version 9.0.1-2.1 of python-pip, the autopkgtest¹
started to fail with lots of instances of the error copied below (full
log² attached). The error shows that even importing main from pip fails,
I *assume* this makes python-pip nearly useless.

Looking at the filelist of the two different packages, indeed the
_vendor directory is missing in the latest version. (I created the diffs
by taking the filelists from packages.d.o).

Please investigate the situation.

Bug#820517: (no subject)

2018-04-26 Thread Alexey Sokolov
Hi
Can we just drop znc-tcl package? It's not necessary for the rest of
ZNC, and is rarely used.
But I'm going to release ZNC 1.7 soon where this is fixed.

arm64, ppc64el and i386 are fast architectures.

I have built openmpi_3.0.1-9 on plummer (ppc64el porterbox) 20 times in a loop
without a failure. It would be good to fix this but with such a low failure rate
I'm downgrading this to allow migration to testing.

Bug#896977: starlink-votable-java: new version misses versioned depends on packages from starjava-fits

2018-04-26 Thread Paul Gevers
Control: affects -1 src:starjava-table

Disclaimer for the original report: the assumption is that the
autopkgtests are representative for the use of the different packages.
Otherwise all these issues may only really be issues in the tests.

On top of the analysis in the original report, the results for
starjava-table¹ show that it is also affected in the same way, but
probably also that starlink-votable-java needs a versioned breaks on
starlink-table-java, as for starjava-table, also starjava-table packages
need to be upgraded for the test to pass.

Additionally, I think starjava-votable also breaks the old version of
starjava-fits.

The autopkgtest of starjava-votable also fails if only starjava-votable
is upgraded.

I don't see build failures for current version 5.10-1 in any of the

Bug#859841: zurl: Please migrate to openssl1.1 in Buster

2018-04-26 Thread Jan Niehusmann
Dear readers of this long-standing bug ticket,

durign the last 3 weeks there was no real progress, but the release
team at least noticed the open transition request (#891872).
Unfortunately, there are some conflicts with other transitions.
("That means this will have to wait until there are no conflicting
ongoing transitions. I will ack this when that time comes.")

Well, at least there is some hope that this happens before the
transition freeze for buster. (2019-01-12)

Bug#896977: starlink-votable-java: new version misses versioned depends on packages from starjava-fits

2018-04-26 Thread Ole Streicher
Hi Paul,

thanks for the bug report. The problem here is indeed a missing
versionized dependency from starlink-fits-java; I just uploaded a fix.

For starlink-table-java, the problem is a bit more tricky: the new
starlink-fits-java requires to add one line

FitsConstants.configureHierarch();

to the tests initializations to let some of the tests succeed.

I however hesitate to put a "breaks" into starjava-fits, since the
package is not really broken; just the use in some corner cases needs
that line. This is however fixed in the starjava-table version in unstable.

Best regards

Ole

Bug#896977: starlink-votable-java: new version misses versioned depends on packages from starjava-fits

2018-04-26 Thread Paul Gevers
Package: starlink-votable-java
Version: 2.0+2018.04.17-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: breaks
Control: affects -1 src:starjava-topcat

I uploaded texworks to unstable!

All the best

Hi,

libnm-glib has been replaced by libnm and libnm-gtk has been replaced by
libnma.

Your package seems to use the GIR bindings for those libraries.
I'm not quite sure if the gir1.2-nmgtk-1.0 dependency is needed, as I
didn't find any references to NMGtk.

Please port qreator to use NM-1.0.typelib and NMA-1.0.typelib
(gir1.2-nma-1.0) instead

The API documentation for libnm can be found at [1].
The API documentation for libnma is available in the libnma-dev package
starting with version 1.4.6-1.

Regards,
Michael

Michael

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package ships (or creates)
a broken symlink.

>From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

0m42.3s ERROR: FAIL: Broken symlinks:
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lua/5.1/libTHNN.so -> ../../libTHNN.so

You probably want to target ../../ibTHNN.so.0 instead,
since the .so is only available in the -dev package.

cheers,

Andreas

Recently the upstream added a new package "moses"
as its runtime dependency, which is not packaged
for Debian.

The missing of 'moses' package renders 'lua-torch-nn'

Severity: serious

Usertags: piuparts replaces-without-breaks
Control: affects -1 + libfl-dev

Hi,

during a test with piuparts and DOSE tools I noticed your package causes
removal of files that also belong to another package.
This is caused by using Replaces without corresponding Breaks.

The installation sequence to reproduce this problem is

  apt-get install libfl-dev/testing
  # (1)
  apt-get install libfl2/sid
  apt-get remove libfl2
  # (2)

The list of installed files at points (1) and (2) should be identical,
but the following files have disappeared:

  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfl.so.2
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfl.so.2.0.0

This is a serious bug violating policy 7.6, see
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/#overwriting-files-and-replacing-packages-replaces
and also see the footnote that describes this incorrect behavior
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ (old: footnotes.html#f53)
[footnote permalink broken (#879048), search for /To see why/]

The libfl2 package has the following relationships with libfl-dev:

  Conflicts: n/a
  Breaks:n/a
  Replaces:  libfl-dev (<= 2.6.4-4)

>From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

There are more Replaces without corresponding Breaks, probably add
Breaks for all of them.

that's because I had to change pybuild's internal paths (to make it work
with multiple modules/packages at the same time).

I added --print option for those who really need it (f.e. while
building sphinx docs) - please use it instead of hardcoding pybuild's
internal paths.

You can use it like this:

 PYTHONPATH=$(shell pybuild --print build_dir --interpreter python3) ...

Bug#894326: python-skbio FTBFS with dh-python >= 3.20180313

Control: tags -1 help

Hi,

some packages I maintain received this kind of bug in the case of
python-skbio it is

   ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'skbio'

So the module that was just build is not found. I guess this is due to
some misuse of pybuild - but what did I wrong? Python-skbio is available
on Salsa[1] (updated to new upstream but with no change for the current
problem).

Any hint how to fix this?

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Oh well...

It's going to be a good headache. Brise is deprecated upstream (see
https://github.com/rime/brise ), and its potential replacement, plum, is not
inside Debian currently.

Dear debian-input-method members, brise maintainers and others: I'd suggest we
invest some time into this issue. Personally I am not familiar with rime at
all (even though there's several team uploads to librime in Debian); Any help
from those who are familiar with rime would be welcome.

Should be ported from libnm-glib/libnm-gtk to libnm/libnma
'reopen' may be inappropriate when a bug has been closed with a version;
all fixed versions will be cleared, and you may need to re-add them.
Bug reopened
No longer marked as fixed in versions sugar/0.112-4.

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

A freshly installed Freecad did not start when launched from Xfce desktop.
Trying to start from terminal produced the warning "Illegal Instruction" and
stop of the program.
The dmsg returns just a line:

Thanks for the attention

The vast majority of import failures is attributed to missing dependencies.
Often times that manifests as an ImportError or ModuleNotFoundError.
Typically, dependencies should be inserted by dh-python via ${python:Depends}
or ${python3:Depends}. Thus a missing dependency can be caused by incomplete
install_requires in setup.py. Sometimes a missing dependency of a dependency
is the cause, in such cases this bug should be reassigned.

Bug#883294:

2018-04-26 Thread Romain Perier
Hello,

Could you :

- Retry with linux-image 4.15, that is the current kernel in buster/sid
- Instead of not using IO-APIC completly, could you try to boot with
kernel parameter "no_timer_check" ?

Does it help ?

Thanks,
Romain

dependency on a "build" time tool. patch attached.
