Plenty of packages fail to work or even install with Python 3.7
for reasons like 'async' now being a keyword.

python3-minimal needs Breaks for against all versions of other
packages in stretch or buster that don't work with 3.7.

Severity: serious
User: ad...@alioth-lists.debian.net
Usertag: alioth-lists-maintainer

Dear uploader of libhdate,

as you've probably heard, Debian's alioth services are shutting down.
This affects your package libhdate since the list address
debian-hebrew-pack...@lists.alioth.debian.org used in the Maintainer:
field was not transferred to the alioth-lists service that provides a
continuation for the lists in the @lists.alioth.debian.org domain.

Addresses that were not migrated have been disabled some time ago. As
a result your package is now in violation of a "must" in the Debian
policy (3.3, working email address), making it unfit for release.

Please fix this before long. Among other reasons, keep in mind bug
reports and important notifications about your package might not reach
you.

Your options:

* Upload another version with a new maintainer address of your choice,

* Migrate the list to the new system. This is still possible,
please appoint a Debian developer as a list owner first, then
contact the alioth lists migration team
and provide all the necessary information.

More information about the new service can be found here:

* More options, even if imperfect, can be found at

The first option is probably suitable only if the address was used just
in a small number of packages since this requires an upload for each of
them. To our knowledge, the usage count of
debian-hebrew-pack...@lists.alioth.debian.org is 11.

The second option is available for a limited time only, by end of
May 2018 the most. So if you're interested in going this way, start the
process as soon as possible.

Note, as mails to the maintainer address will not get through, this
bugreport is Cc'ed (X-Debbugs-CC:) to all uploaders of the package.

Regards,

Christoph and some alioth-lists maintainers

Bug#904964: Useless in buster

2018-07-29 Thread David Prévot
Package: php-cli-prompt
Version: 1.0.3+dfsg-1
Severity: serious

[ RC-Bug filed by the maintainer in order to make sure the package gets
  removed from testing. ]

php-cli-prompt was packaged as a composer dependency, but the last
version (1.7, already in experimental, soon in unstable) doesn’t depend
on php-cli-prompt anymore. There is a priori no point in keeping this
library in Debian (please do provide more information to this bug report
if you disagree).

I intend to ask for this package to be removed from the archive once a
new composer 1.7 reaches testing (feel free to take care of that if I
forget or don’t do it quickly enough). I may however update this bug
report to make sure the php-cli-prompt package doesn’t get automatically
removed from testing before composer 1.7 gets in (I’m submitting this
report now to avoid forgetting about it, and risking releasing Buster
with a useless PHP library).

Regards

David

Please keep this issue open in the bug tracker for the package it
was filed for. If a fix in another package is required, please
file a bug for the other package (or clone), and add a block in this
package. Please keep the issue open until the package can be built in
a follow-up test rebuild.

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-8/g++-8, but succeeds to build with gcc-7/g++-7. The
severity of this report will be raised before the buster release.

The full build log can be found at:
http://aws-logs.debian.net/2018/05/01/gcc8/deepin-movie-reborn_3.2.3-3_unstable_gcc8.log.gz
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 8, either set CC=gcc-8 CXX=g++-8 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t=experimental install g++

Common build failures are new warnings resulting in build failures with
-Werror turned on, or new/dropped symbols in Debian symbols files.
For other C/C++ related build failures see the porting guide at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-8/porting_to.html

Bug#904957: emacs-lucid: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/emacs/25.2/etc/DOC', which is also in package emacs25-lucid 25.2+1-6+b3

2018-07-29 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: emacs-lucid
Version: 1:25.2+1-8
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

upgrading emacs25-lucid on armhf pulls in emacs-lucid, but that fails
to install as follows:

Preparing to unpack .../emacs-lucid_1%3a25.2+1-8_armhf.deb ...
Unpacking emacs-lucid (1:25.2+1-8) ...

dpkg-deb: error: paste subprocess was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:

The Replaces header only contains emacs-gtk and emacs-nox, but likely
also needs emacs25-lucid. And probably also needs a "Breaks:

Looking at debian/libpqxx6.symbols, I notice the first line is

  libpqxx-4.0.so libpqxx-4.0v5 #MINVER#

which implies you aren't tracking symbols at all for the more recent
.so files. dpkg-gensymbols throws warnings about that at build time,
please don't ignore these.

This might be ok if there's no actual breakage between versions. In
that case, you need to provide compat symlinks to the .so file (or
better change SONAME to libpqxx6.so), but without symbol tracking, we
don't know.

Bug#904942: libpqxx/6.2.4-1 breaks sqlsmith: error while loading shared libraries: libpqxx-6.1.so

2018-07-29 Thread Paul Gevers
Source: libpqxx

Control: affects -1 src:sqlsmith

Dear Marcin,

With a recent upload of libpqxx the autopkgtest of sqlsmith started
to fail in unstable and testing. I copied the error below.

Looking at the error log, the changelog and your updated lintian
override, it seems that this library requires all reverse dependencies
to be rebuild. But because you don't follow traditional Debian library
practices of doing transitions, the Debian archive doesn't know this.
Luckily the sqlsmith autopkgtest caught this.

I file this bug with RC level, such that you can figure out with your
reverse dependencies how to handle the situation (with your current
design, you need versioned Breaks on the current version of their
packages and they need to upload their package with a versioned build
depends in order for Debian tools to handle this properly AFAICT).

I could be wrong in my analysis, but this looks messy. Maybe you want to
teach upstream how and when to bump sonames. If upstream correctly bumps
soname, you'll have to follow the standard library transition processes
to prevent packages to become out of sync. Or have good reasons not to,
but then your reverse depends need to be aware and agree.

More information about this bug and the reason for filing it can be
found on
https://wiki.debian.org/ContinuousIntegration/RegressionEmailInformation

I think I know the answer to that actually, cf.
https://bugs.debian.org/874523 . You wrote “after installing updates
today” and although you didn't specify which (package name &
before/after version) I guess you also upgraded ‘initramfs-tools-core’
to 0.132, so your initramfs image *is* using usrmerge.

Hi,

I just ACCEPTed libtickit-widget-tabbed-perl from NEW but noticed it
was missing attribution in debian/copyright for at least Paul Evans.

This is in no way exhaustive so please check over the entire package
carefully and address these on your next upload.

Hmm. In the initramfs too? No need to reboot to the broken initrd to
test it out, you can run

lsinitramfs /path/to/broken/initrd | grep cryptsetup

The "alternatives" system may be confused. Check where the symlinks for
/usr/bin/mpiexec, mpirun lead.

This seems ok, apparently:

root@capitanata:~# ls -l /etc/alternatives/mpirun
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 apr 21 17:09 /etc/alternatives/mpirun ->
/usr/bin/mpirun.openmpi

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 apr 21 17:09 /etc/alternatives/mpiexec ->

Try testing with mpiexec.openmpi explicitly rather than mpiexec.

I had done it already, and anyway mpiexec points to mpiexec.openmpi. No
change.

For the transport, try:

$ mpirun.openmpi -n 2 --mca btl self,tcp ./printf

yay! this worked. My bare bones test code with that runs flawlessly:

gmulas@capitanata:~/PAHmodels/anharmonica-scalapack$ mpiexec.openmpi ---mca btl
self,tcp sample_printf
MPI_Init call ok
My rank is = 0
number of procs is = 2

MPI_Init call ok
My rank is = 1
number of procs is = 2

MPI_Finalize call ok, returned 0
MPI_Finalize call ok, returned 0

The same code, run without the --mca option, yields:

gmulas@capitanata:~/PAHmodels/anharmonica-scalapack$ mpiexec.openmpi -n 2
sample_printf

Package: autopkgtest
Version: 5.4.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear autopkgtest Maintainers,

In various situations autopkgtest calls /bin/su with an empty string for
the username. The old su (from login) ignored this, but newer su
versions (from util-linux 2.32-0.2) do not accept this, and abort.
Personally I think autopkgtest got lucky that this worked before, but
this probably was not a valid thing to do.

One of the affected lines:
   https://sources.debian.org/src/autopkgtest/5.4.1/lib/adt_testbed.py/#L1096

Example output from autopkgtest:

Bug#904926: cryptroot-unlock: timeout waiting for askpass

2018-07-29 Thread C. Dominik Bodi
Package: cryptsetup-initramfs
Version: 2:2.0.3-6
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Dear Maintainer,

after installing updates today, I cannot unlock the cryptroot anymore.
After sshing to the dropbear instance of the machine and starting
cryptroot-unlock, the command responds with the error message:

timeout waiting for askpass.

askpass is installed in the initrd under /lib/cryptsetup (iirc).

Logging into the machines remote console (done via spice) also fails,
as I always get the error message that the password is wrong.
I tried entering the password using US-keyboard layout, to no avail.

I've had to boot into an older kernel, that kernels initramfs still
works. The kernel where the cryptroot-unlock is not working is 4.17.0-1.

The machine has a single disk with 2 partitions, vda1 being the
unencrypted boot partition having the boot loader, kernel and initramfs.

The second partition is the luks volume, having a single LVM volume
group with two logical volumes (see fstab below, hostname redacted)

I have booted into the older kernel and updated the 4.17.0-1 initramfs
with update-initramfs -u
That did not help, either.

Regards,
C. Dominik Bódi

Package: src:culmus
Version: 0.131-1
Severity: serious
User: ad...@alioth-lists.debian.net
Usertag: alioth-lists-maintainer

Dear uploader of culmus,

as you've probably heard, Debian's alioth services are shutting down.
This affects your package culmus since the list address
debian-hebrew-pack...@lists.alioth.debian.org used in the Maintainer:
field was not transferred to the alioth-lists service that provides a
continuation for the lists in the @lists.alioth.debian.org domain.

Hello,

Bug #904870 in autopkgtest reported by you has been fixed in the
Git repository and is awaiting an upload. You can see the commit
message below, and you can check the diff of the fix at:

https://salsa.debian.org/ci-team/autopkgtest/commit/409d2e01e44a701629a720beca41f78ffcc34b8f

Always pass a non-empty user string to `su`

Older versions of su would take "" as user, and map that to root. Newer
versions won't accept "". So let's use root explicitly, so that we keep
the existing behavior.

Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Dear Maintainer,

on Lenovo laptop ideapad 520 Gnome randomly crash and, after some seconds of

All the opened software and data is gone.

It happens 1 to 4 times a day.

I have consulted the syslog, kern, Xorg but I can't find any hints on the
package is causing the error.

The laptop harware is:

The system is Debian GNU/Linux buster/sid 64 bit using bumblebee and Nvidia
driver Version: 390.48.

This package fails to build with default-jdk pointing to openjdk-9-jdk.
Please fix it, so that we can start the transition to Java 9.
The wiki has some common problems and their solutions:

The "/jre" part of the install path is gone. Also, many of the libraries
have moved. I'm not sure why configure cares so much about the actual

Severity: serious
User: ad...@alioth-lists.debian.net
Usertag: alioth-lists-maintainer

Dear uploader of hspell,

as you've probably heard, Debian's alioth services are shutting down.
This affects your package hspell since the list address
debian-hebrew-pack...@lists.alioth.debian.org used in the Maintainer:
field was not transferred to the alioth-lists service that provides a
continuation for the lists in the @lists.alioth.debian.org domain.

Hi Adrian,
Do you still intend to take over maintenance of libgnomecanvas? If you
do, please prepare an upload fixing #887868, setting yourself as Maintainer,
removing the GNOME team and making their descriptions indicate that this
library is deprecated/dead upstream.

If you also intend to adopt that language binding, then I think you
should go ahead: Deng Xiyue last touched it in 2009, so I think I can say
on behalf of the GNOME team that it might as well be considered orphaned.
Its reverse dependencies are flowcanvas, ladish and monster-masher.
It would make sense for libgnomecanvas and libgnomecanvasmm2.6 to have
the same maintainer IMO.

Alioth has now gone away, but I can try to dig out these packages from
https://alioth-archive.debian.org/svn/pkg-gnome.tar.xz if you would find
that helpful.

Bug#904661: vtk7 FTBFS due to uninstallable build dependencies

2018-07-29 Thread Gert Wollny
Control: reassign -1 src:py-ubjson
Control: merge -1 902762
Control: affects 902762 vtk7

python-autobahn is currently not installable with python3-all-dev
because the latter depends on python3.7 and python-autobahn depends on
python-ubjson, which in turn FTBFS with python-3.7.

As a side note: I think it is very uncommon to file a bug against a
package that FTBFS because of some dependency being (temporarly) not
installable.

The major issue with libgnomecanvas is that it has no upstream maintainer
(#895350). Its upstream git repository is marked as archived:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/libgnomecanvas/

and it has had no non-translation commits since January 2011.

The Debian GNOME maintainers do not have the bandwidth to maintain many
packages in Debian 10 'buster' that are dead upstream. Adrian Bunk and
Gert Wollny have expressed interest in taking over maintenance (see
#895247), but have not yet uploaded a version setting either of them
as maintainers.

My main concern about this package being adopted is that its name and
current package description do not indicate that it is no longer
maintained or recommended by the GNOME project. Any new maintainer
should fix this.

Hello Roger,

thank you for spending your time helping to make Debian better with
this bug report.

Some comments on your bug report:

The steps required to use the update-resolv-conf script are described
in the README.debian.

[Quote]
You want to install resolvconf package.
[/ Quote]

So openvpn also runs on installations that due to the policy do not
allow resolvconf, resolvconf is only marked as suggests.

> The exit 0 needs to be replaced by
>
> 1. A message in the log "Looks like you have forgotten package
> resolvconf"

Good idea. Will we implement.

> 2. At exit 1 to assure that the openvpn client can not start.

No. The change means a fundamental change to the behavior of the
script.

The danger that then existing installations the openvpn connections not
working properly is too high.

> 3. Nice to have: A notification to Joe that his openvpn setup is
> broken.

No. Is not possible because the script must also running without any
graphical user interface.

Summary:

This bug is a problem due to the manual setup. If the script is by a
user and / or an admin is used, are also the requirements (here
installation of resolvconf) to fulfill.

As already written the change of the behavior of the script is without
problems not possible with existing installations. But it is free for
everyone to adapt the script to his needs.

In the described scenario, the real problem is the use of a possible
manipulated name server. This can be easily prevented by a proper
system setup.

I therefore change the severity to wishlist and remove the security
tag.

Bug#904899: mandos: initramfs boot script assumes internal cryptsetup implementation details and is now broken

2018-07-29 Thread Guilhem Moulin
Source: mandos
Version: 1.7.19-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

mandos' initramfs boot script reads and parses /conf/conf.d/cryptroot.
Since cryptsetup 2:2.0.3-2 this file no longer exists; we cryptsetup
package maintainers replaced and it changed its format (without notice
as it was undocumented and thus internal to src:cryptsetup).

Packages outside of src:cryptsetup must stick to the documented
interface; and in use cases where it's not enough, ask us to extend it
rather than using internal details that are subject to change without
notice.

Cheers,
--
Guilhem.

The full build log can be found at:
http://aws-logs.debian.net/2018/05/01/gcc8/p8-platform_2.1.0.1+dfsg1-1_unstable_gcc8.log.gz
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 8, either set CC=gcc-8 CXX=g++-8 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t=experimental install g++

Common build failures are new warnings resulting in build failures with
-Werror turned on, or new/dropped symbols in Debian symbols files.
For other C/C++ related build failures see the porting guide at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-8/porting_to.html

Bug#886063: libgnomecanvas: Don't release with Buster

2018-07-29 Thread Borden Rhodes
I apologise. The relevant post is
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=885777#22:

"Uh, wait... the mailing list post from October 2017 announcing the
deprecation and removal of libgnome and libgnomeui and other related
libraries didn't even list libgnomecanvas among the libraries to be
removed, or xournal among the affected packages -- perhaps showing
awareness that libgnomecanvas is in fact not related to libgnome in
any way. Could it be that someone got overzealous and decided to
remove libgnomecanvas for no good reason? Perhaps that can still be
undone?"

Bug#886063: libgnomecanvas: Don't release with Buster

2018-07-29 Thread Borden Rhodes
The Xournal package requires this package. If you refer to
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=885777#17, it
appears that this package has been flagged for removal somewhat
over-zealously:

"libgnomecanvas is not related to libgnome in any way despite the
name. It provides a high-performance canvas widget for GTK2, it is the
standard canvas widget for GTK2. There is no good replacement for
GTK3. I am not aware of any serious issues with it apart from it being
old."

I depend on Xournal, and as there is no suitable GTK3 replacement, I'm
curious whether it is possible to appeal the decision to remove
libgnomecanvas on the grounds that it apperntly is not part of the
libgnome code base.

Bug#904779: openmpi-bin: any program hangs on first MPI call (e.g. MPI_Init())

2018-07-29 Thread Alastair McKinstry

Can you give me the following:

(1) Does "mpiexec -n 2 ls" work ? any output ?

(2) What hardware do you have ? in particular, any GPU cards, etc ?

(3) What does "ompi_info"  report ?

(4) re-run your test program, with the env. variable PMIX_DEBUG=100

(pmix is a new component of openmpi that starts subprocesses; if this
breaks, then it would lead to mpi_init hanging).

thanks

Alastair

On 28/07/2018 22:18, Giacomo Mulas wrote:

(1) How did you execute it ? mpiexec command line , etc?

any way of a number, does not seem to make any difference. Always on
the command line. I tried mpiexec, mpirun, just running the executable
without wrappers (used to work before, if one wanted to run one single
process). I also tried using a different number of processes, from 1
to 8,

no difference. In any case, if I run the code under gdb (or a graphical
wrapper to gdb, like ddd), I can see that the code hangs when trying to
execute the MPI_Init() call. Or, if I try some of the scalapack example
codes, the first call that implicitly tries to initialise MPI.

(2) Can you give the output of :

Any plans for moving this to unstable, or is anything blocking it?

Regards,
Salvatore

This happens because in Qt 5.11 some unneeded #include's were removed
from public headers, breaking users that relied on them without
including everything they needed.

This was already reported [1], and fixed upstream [2]. Backporting
that commit should be enough to fix the build failure with Qt 5.11.
