For 16 to work we'll need the Debian clang team to include this patchset:

https://reviews.llvm.org/D158066

Any chance of that happening?

Timothy, did you ever get the ppc64 issues with clang >= 15 squared
away? It's looking like I'm going to need to upload a build with
clang-16.

This package has a Depends and/or Build-Depends on the transitional
package policykit-1, which has been separated into polkitd, pkexec and
(deprecated) polkitd-pkla packages.

If this package communicates with polkitd via D-Bus, please represent that
as a Depends, Recommends or Suggests on polkitd, whichever is appropriate
for the strength of the requirement.

If this package runs /usr/bin/pkexec, please represent that as a Depends,
Recommends or Suggests on pkexec, whichever is appropriate for the strength
of the requirement.

If this package requires polkit at build-time (usually for the gettext
extensions polkit.its and polkit.loc), please build-depend on both
libpolkit-gobject-1-dev and polkitd, even if the package does not
actually depend on libpolkit-gobject-1 at runtime. This is because
the gettext extensions are currently in polkitd, but might be moved to
libpolkit-gobject-1-dev in future (see #955204). pkexec is usually not
required at build-time.

For packages that are expected to be backported to bullseye, it's OK to
use an alternative dependency: polkitd | policykit-1 and/or
pkexec | policykit-1.

This is part of a mass bug filing, see
.

Thanks,
smcv

Bug#1051592: linux: Regression - upgrade to 6.1.52-1 breaks nftables

2023-09-10 Thread Timo Sigurdsson
Hi,

Salvatore Bonaccorso schrieb am 10.09.2023 12:21 (GMT +02:00):

> Would it be possible to provide a minimal set of rules triggering the

So, I did some more testing on a different machine running the official build.
My findings so far are:
1) Yes, I can reproduce the issue with the official build.
2) The issue depends on the ruleset. The minimal ruleset I have on that
machine, doesn't trigger the issue, but when I copy over the ruleset from the
machine I first observed this on, then I can reproduce it.

I'm attaching a somewhat stripped down version of my original, rather complex
ruleset. It's by no means a "minimal" reproducer, cause I haven't had the time
yet to further reduce it in order to see what actually triggers it. But you
should be able to observe that this ruleset loads just fine on linux 6.1.38-4,
but doesn't anymore on 6.1.52-1.

I also started looking into what commit could have introduced this. My first
guess "netfilter: nft_dynset: disallow object maps" (23185c6aed1f) is wrong.
Even with this one reverted, the issue occurs. I'll try another build with
"netfilter: nf_tables: disallow rule addition to bound chain via
NFTA_RULE_CHAIN_ID" (0ebc1064e487) reverted tomorrow evening...

Kind regards,

Timo

P.S.: Regarding the severity: Treat it with whatever severity you see fit. I
was a bit in a hurry and didn't actually look at the definitions for the
different severity options this morning.

The newest release of Nautilus, version 43, has switched to GTK4 and
includes major changes in the extensions API.

nautilus-wipe will need to be converted to GTK4 and make other changes
for the new version.

Nautilus 43 is available in Debian Experimental. When we upload
nautilus 43 to Debian Unstable, we will need to remove nautilus-wipe
from Testing unless this bug is fixed, because the
extension will no longer build from source and will no longer work.

Thank you,
Jeremy Bicha

I pinged Salvatore on IRC about this and he was working on
stable/old-stable fix of the version at the time. So I suggest to help
out and prepare latest upstream from upstream for unstable (which was in
opinion only fixes).
Unfortunately I saw your reply to the bug after performing the update.
I'm sorry if I overstepped here. In the meantime I prepared a pull on
salsa for the changes I made.
As a matter of fact, I noticed that I somehow missed the latest
changelog from the package which I noticed while I tried to open the
pull request. After looking at it again, it looks like I just missed the
changelog entry.

Once again, I'm sorry for any trouble I may have caused.

Sebastian

The new version addressed the CVEs so closing the bug isn't incorrect?

Arch is already with Clang 16 and I tested Chromium 117 in a vm that I
installed here and it was working normally.

2023-09-10 Thread Andres Salomon

Unfortunately 117 *also* segfaults on sid.

I'm tempted to try a newer clang, but probably not 15 since debian's
planning to remove it. 16, I guess?

Apparently this should have been fixed in version 117.0.5938.48-1,
if you want to release this version in beta stage as a distro they
are making which is Arch and we can test it on Debian.

 Cheers, Leandro Cunha

Do you have a crbug or commit or something that fixes it? I haven't
started on 117 yet, and I also haven't really had time to debug this
sid-specific 116 crash (other than building with downgraded packages
from 9/1 and still getting the crash). This was a bad week for
finding free time.

 Tim, I don't suppose you've looked at 117 yet? There's an early
release out.

This version is expected to be released on September 12th and we can
wait. I believe it must have also been compiled for Linux with the
current changes.

It is/was due to another issue which is just fixed. But it is still a
work in progress, not fully ready for user consumption.
enblend-enfuse will still not build. Please give me some time to clear
all graphviz issues.

A workaround exists, so this doesn't make GNOME Shell completely unusable;
downgrading the bug severity to important.

> Gnome-shell: Alt-F2, type 'r'

> or open Firefox/Chrome browser and play any video for example from youtube

Those two might actually be two separate root causes, or they might be
two different ways to trigger the same root cause; it's not yet clear from
the information available.

Alt+F2, 'r' sometimes triggers bugs in shutdown/cleanup code paths
that would normally only result in the Shell crashing when it is already
trying to exit (which is a bug, but relatively harmless). This seems likely
to be the same thing as #1050502, which was also reported by a user of the
Nvidia proprietary graphics driver.

Playing videos in a web browser probably means there is a crash involving
hardware video acceleration (VA-API or VDPAU). This could be the same thing
as #1050512, which was *also* reported by a user of the Nvidia proprietary
graphics driver.

> I found similar problem:

That doesn't seem to be a valid issue URL, do you mean
 or something else?

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2977 seems similar to your
first reproducer involving Alt+F2, 'r'.

> 2, socket 0)

There is not enough information here to identify a specific crash
or find a solution. Please could you get a backtrace? Please see:
.

For gnome-shell, usually the easiest way to get a backtrace is:

* Install the systemd-coredump package
* Reboot (I'm not sure whether this is strictly necessary but it can't hurt)
* Do whatever you need to do to trigger the crash
* In a shell: DEBUGINFOD_URLS="https://debuginfod.debian.net; coredumpctl gdb
* Enable automatic download of debug symbols if prompted
* At the (gdb) prompt: set pagination off
* Still at the (gdb) prompt: bt

In your case, you've reported two different ways to trigger this crash
(one with Alt+F2, 'r' similar to #1050502, and one with videos similar
to #1050512) so it would be useful if you could get a separate backtrace
for each one, and send them to the bug address indicating which is which.

Also, please look for any messages from gnome-shell in the system log
(systemd journal) at the time of the crash, by using the journalctl
tool or reading the file /var/log/syslog. For example you might see
something similar to this:

2023-09-10T16:09:04.136417+01:00 tautology gnome-shell[2831]:
clutter_actor_contains: assertion 'CLUTTER_IS_ACTOR (self)' failed

or this:

May 7 18:02:51 darter gnome-shell[2213]: Attempting to run a JS callback
during garbage collection. This is most likely caused by destroying a Clutter
actor or GTK widget with ::destroy signal connected, or using the destroy(),
dispose(), or remove() vfuncs. Because it would crash the application, it has
been blocked.

Please copy anything from around the time of the crash.

In retrospect, I'm not completely sure, but better to be on the safe
side in this case. The NULL pointer dereference flaw reported by
Chenyuan Mi is one when composing from a specially crafted draft
message, so rather on the harmless side, but the second is when
viewing a message with specially crafted headers, leading to a crash.
OTOH it is isolated to such an email, when viewing a message with
specially crafted headers, see the commit
https://gitlab.com/muttmua/mutt/-/commit/a4752eb0ae0a521eec02e59e51ae5daedf74fda0
in particular.

I agree that maybe I should have waited for you for comments, which I
try to remember to keep in mind for any future occurence.

Salvatore

This is part of a mass bug filing, see
.

Thanks,

This is part of a mass bug filing, see
.

Thanks,
smcv

You mean the NMU by Sebastian?

Actually you do not need to reopen. A bug can be closed with mutliple
versions, that is 2.2.12-0.1 closes it, but as well so does then the
2.2.9-1+deb12u1 upload and the 2.0.5-4.1+deb11u3 one.

I think that was not the case several years ago, but nowdays BTS can
handle that, and will reflect it nicely as well in the version graph.

Or were you meaning something different?

Regards,
Salvatore

FWIW, I have done the bookworm-security upload already to
security-master, and still working on the bullseye-security one (with
plan to release the DSA tonight ideally).

apparently someone else did a NMU with the new version and incorrectly closed
the bug.

I reopened the bug because stable needs to be addressed (which I will do today
as I just wrote) and then it's probably worth investigating how to integrate
those NMU into the git repo

This is defintively not 'grave' but I keep it for the time beeing at
RC level and might be adjusted later.

Would it be possible to provide a minimal set of rules triggering the
issue? Can you reproduce the issue with the official build?

Bug#1051592: linux: Regression - upgrade to 6.1.52-1 breaks nftables

2023-09-10 Thread Timo Sigurdsson
Package: linux
Version: 6.1.52-1
Severity: grave

Dear Maintainers,

linux-image-6.1.0-12-amd64 causes a serious regression in nftables. After
upgrading one of my machines, nftables fails to start - leaving the system
without an active firewall.

Doing
`nft -cf /etc/nftables.conf'
throws many "Operation not supported" errors on rulesets that have been in
place for months wihtout issues.

Just to give two simple examples from the log when nftables fails to start:
/etc/nftables.conf:99:4-44: Error: Could not process rule: Operation not
supported
tcp option maxseg size 1-500 counter drop
^
/etc/nftables.conf:308:4-27: Error: Could not process rule: Operation not
supported
tcp dport sip-tls accept

Downgrading to linux-image-6.1.0-11-amd64 resolves the issue.

Notes: I'm running a local rebuild of linux-image-amd64 with a few additional
symbols enabled. But since these symbols are totally unrelated to the netfilter
subsystem and there are no changes to the source itself, I'm certain, this
affects the original Debian build as well. Whether it only affects certain
architectures or rulesets, I can't say, though.

I'm cc'ing debian-secur...@debian.org because the update came via the
stable-security channel.

Thanks and regards,

Timo

Package: python-pymad
Version: 0.10-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

When decoding at least several MP3 files (including at 22050 kHz
single-channel and 44100 kHz dual-channel, non-VBR), python-pymad in
stretch generates fairly horrific sound (chr-chr-chr) at least on i386.
If one looks at the decoded bytes, there's a clear overabundance of
zeroes, but in the one case I looked at they even included a string .
"7/email/encoders.py", so it's probably not just an integer format
issue.

The good news is: The version currently in testing, 0.10-1, fixes
the problem, so it's probably not worth further investigating this
particular issue. It *would* be good if the fix could somehow slip
into stable, though.
