Well, a fix would be to take the cautions route of:
If pidof nodm is found, that means they currently running it, so abandon

If the user is so smart that they want to restart it, they can do it
themselves. (Equivalent of them rebooting the system themselves.)

Here's the situation on i686. Be sure to test on i686, not amd64, where
it works fine.

libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37:
  Installed: 2.23.91-1

epiphany-browser:
  Installed: 3.31.91-2

$ mkdir /tmp/p; HOME=/tmp/p epiphany-browser

You'll see it just shows it is loading about:overview, and it just loops over
and over with:

** (epiphany:3475): WARNING **: 05:59:49.922: Web process crashed

(WebKitWebProcess:3679): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: 05:59:50.682: can't peek
value table for type '' which is not currently referenced

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/webkit2gtk-4.0/MiniBrowser works fine though. It
can even browse web pages and files.

strace shows the loop is at

futex(0x14656c0, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 1
clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, {tv_sec=5717, tv_nsec=613493764}) = 0

2019-01-10 Thread Dan Jacobson
Does your fix help the aptitude forbid-version I have placed?
The following packages will NOT be UPGRADED:
  libilmbase23{a} libopenexr23{a} (R: libopenexr22)
I don't think so.

Bug#918382: broken upload

2019-01-06 Thread Dan Jacobson
I had to do
# aptitude purge gimp
# aptitude -t sid install gimp
# aptitude forbid-version libilmbase23 libopenexr23 libpoppler-glib8
Marking version 2.3.0-3 of package libilmbase23 as forbidden
Marking version 2.3.0-3 of package libopenexr23 as forbidden
Marking version 0.71.0-1 of package libpoppler-glib8 as forbidden
to get rid of all the bugs.

Bug#918382: broken upload

2019-01-06 Thread Dan Jacobson
As you can see in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=918382
gimp is relying (Depending) on a broken upload.

Perhaps you could make it Depend on libopenexr24 instead of libopenexr23.

Bug#912695: apt-show-versions workarounds

2018-11-06 Thread Dan Jacobson
Alas I found it isn't too simple to make a drop in replacement
to get plain

And I have embedded apt-show-versions into too many scripts.

OK I submitted
Bug#913039: Acknowledgement (add --no-cache)
but that won't fix the cronjob error though...

A> run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/apt-show-versions exited with return code 25

2018-11-06 Thread Dan Jacobson
Maybe if the caching behavior was made non-default,
then I wouldn't need su -c apt-show-versions nobody
to avoid the error, and also no more daily errors from cron too.

OK downgraded to bash4, restored /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf from

Bug#901185: remove unlisted bash dependecy

2018-06-10 Thread Dan Jacobson
Why use bash at all if e.g.,

$ checkbashisms /usr/sbin/update-exim4.conf.template
could not find any possible bashisms in bash script
/usr/sbin/update-exim4.conf.template

means one can just use #!/bin/sh ?

Bug#901185: Checkbashisms

2018-06-10 Thread Dan Jacobson
I also note /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf got overwritten without
asking the user Y/N.
I also note exim4-config contains #!/bin/bash scripts without Depends: bash.

D> Be sure the package passes Checkbashisms!

JN> Which package? Is there a particular bashism you noticed?

All the shell scripts in the exim* packages.

Anyway please declare a Conflict with bash5, or better yet make the
package finally installable. Thank you.

I only use my i386 machine once a week and it is really underpowered for

Bug#875800: double free or corruption (!prev)

2017-09-15 Thread Dan Jacobson
The reason you are getting 401s is that you have an invalid
oauth_client_key=
oauth_client_secret=
pair in .flickcurl.conf .

In order to reproduce the bug you need to repeat these steps:
1. Visit http://www.flickr.com/services/api/keys/ to get an
and .
2. Create /root/.flickcurl.conf in this format:
[flickr]
oauth_client_key=
oauth_client_secret=
3. Call this program with:
  flickcurl oauth.create

Even one wrong digit in your personal oauth_client_key will make you
just get 401s and be unable to reproduce the bug.

And no, the same problem occurs on amd64, and with libc6 2.24-17.

Bug#873275: always segfaults at start due to QSslSocket

2017-08-26 Thread Dan Jacobson
Glad to have found the bug for you early.

I only use qgis offline, so was dismayed that I couldn't even start it
even if never planning to use SSL over the network.

I mean even researchers in some offline arctic lab will find the copy of
qgis they brought with them is unusable even without ever having
attempted to make a http, (not even https) connection.

There should be some fallback mode available.

Bug#872532: w3m bricked: symbol lookup error: w3m: undefined symbol: Gpm_Wgetch

2017-08-18 Thread Dan Jacobson
X-Debbugs-Cc: dic...@invisible-island.net, yama...@jpl.org
Package: w3m
Version: 0.5.3-34
Severity: grave

With the latest upgrade of its dependencies, w3m is now 100 unusable on Debian.

$ w3m
w3m: symbol lookup error: w3m: undefined symbol: Gpm_Wgetch

We read in
http://invisible-island.net/ncurses/ncurses.faq.html#using_gpm_lib

"w3m contains some contorted code to exploit this, by abusing the
library interface: it defines several symbols that conflict with ncurses
to intercept calls to wgetch, while using other symbols from ncurses as
is. (There is also documented Gpm_Getch, but it is no longer present in
the GPM source code)."

Anyway I can no longer use w3m on Debian. It won't even start.

I can't even do
$ echo ooo|TERM=dumb w3m -dump

Bug#867737: Do not use this package. It will lock your screen.

2017-07-08 Thread Dan Jacobson
Package: arora
Version: 0.11.0+qt5+git2014-04-06-1
Severity: grave

All I did was
$ arora
then after it finished rendering its initial screen,
I hit CTRL+Q and CTRL+W or maybe the other way around.

Next thing you know my entire screen was locked up.
The clock in the corner of icewm stopped.
I couldn't even do ALT+CTRL+F1 to leave X-windows.

I had to hit the power button on the front of my computer.
My disks needed to be fscked. My bash history got lost.
Who knows what else I lost.
