Bug#981924: trying to overwrite shared '/usr/share/locale/en@boldquot/LC_MESSAGES/elfutils.mo', which is different from other instances of package libelf1:i386

2021-02-05 Thread Ara Keary
Dear maintainers,

I apologize, the bug 981924 has vanished from version 0.182+20210205-1 ;
my mistake was due to the two successive updates 0.182+20210203-1.1 and
0.182+20210203-1.1+b1 that were both presenting the bug.

Thanks for the fix

Best,

Ara

Bug#975899: deluge: Deluge refuses to start properly

2020-11-26 Thread Ara Keary
Package: deluge
Version: 2.0.3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
X-Debbugs-Cc: ara.ke...@gmail.com

Dear maintainer,

deluge starts with a dialog
Only Thin Client mode is available due to unknown Import Error. To use
Standalone mode, please see logs for error details. Continue in Thin Client
mode?

Chosing No yields a dialog to start the deamon (but produces errors, and deluge
cannot be used).

Chosing Yes crashes with the many errors message in the console, detailed below.

Also, it seems that none of the deluge or deluge-* package depend on the deamon
deluged . Installing deluged by hand does not solve any of the mentionned
issues.

Clearing .config/deluge does not solve the problems either.

Best,
Ara

Bug#954323: libreoffice-common: Update to 1:6.4.2-1 renders libreoffice-writer unusable

2020-03-20 Thread Ara Keary
Package: libreoffice-common
Version: 1:6.4.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear maintainers,

updating libreoffice-common to 1:6.4.2-1 renders libreoffice-writer unusable:
when opening an existing file
. either the document is declared as to be restored, but restoration fails,
. or the document opens, but no menu is available, icons are scattered.

In either case, it is impossible to edit the file in proper conditions.

Downgrading libreoffice-common to 1:6.4.1-1 solves the problem.

Note that in the last debian update, many other packages were upgraded to
1:6.4.2-1 .
Keeping these packages in version 1:6.4.2-1 while downgrading the only package
"libreoffice-common" to 1:6.4.1-1 solves the problem.

Cheers,

Ara

Bug#901990: Acknowledgement (linux-image-4.16.0-2-amd64: kernel BUG at startup in usercopy.c ; impossible to boot)

2018-06-20 Thread Ara Keary
Dear maintainers,

please find below the "kernel BUG" message in syslog .

In order to reboot i had to downgrade to testing (= 4.16.12-1 ) the
following packages :
linux-headers-4.16.0-2-common
linux-image-4.16.0-2-amd64
linux-headers-4.16.0-2-amd64

and to run

dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-kernel-dkms

So that it seems relatively clear that the problem comes from the
nvidia driver, but since the message appears in syslog as a "kernel
BUG" i reported the problem to this package.

Best,

Ara

PS, for those stuck without network in debian recovery boot mode,
simply run the command 'dhclient'

Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Dear debian kernel maintainers

after switching to version 4.16.16-1 of linux-image-4.16.0-2-amd64 my system
does not boot anymore. I obtain a kernel BUG message in syslog in usercopy.c.

Reverting to the current testing version of the amd64 kernel makes the system
bootable again (and no kernel BUG message appears anymore in syslog).

Since i'm reporting the bug from the recovery startup mode, i can't attach now
the kernel BUG message, but i'll do it soon after booting with the testing
version of the kernel.

Best,

Ara

Bug#881266: apt-files fails with LZ4F error on calling apt-helper with xargs

2017-11-09 Thread Ara Keary
Package: apt-file
Version: 3.1.5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear maintainers,

installing apt-file and running

  apt-file update

works well, but any search fails with an error ; for instance

  apt-file search ogg123

fails with

   E: LZ4F:
/var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.debian.org_debian_dists_testing_main_Contents-amd64.lz4
Read error (18446744073709551615: ERROR_GENERIC)
Command xargs -0r /usr/lib/apt/apt-helper cat-file exited with code 123 at
/usr/bin/apt-file line 240.
   E: A subprocess exited uncleanly (raw: 31488)

and similarly for other searches.

Downgrading apt-file to stable (3.1.4) from testing/unstable (3.1.5) does not
solve the problem.

Cleaning the database with
  aptitude clean
or even with
  apt-get --list-cleanup update
does not change the problem.

Purging apt-file, reinstalling and re-updating the apt-file database doesn't
solve the issue either.

It seems the package is thus unusable. It seems the issue is related to a lz4
library, but i could not find a way to go further.

Best,

Ara

Bug#856901: chromium doesn't start with "version LIBAVCODEC_57 not defined"

2017-03-05 Thread Ara Keary
Package: chromium
Version: 56.0.2924.76-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear maintainers,

starting chromium fails on 56.0.2924.76-5 ; starting from command line yields

/usr/lib/chromium/chromium: relocation error: /usr/lib/chromium/chromium:
symbol avcodec_parameters_to_context, version LIBAVCODEC_57 not defined in file

and no process is started.

Reverting to testing 56.0.2924.76-4 also fails
Only the stable version starts.
The problem seems to have appeared in v56.

Bug#845785: chromium crashes on certain websites

2016-12-01 Thread Ara Keary
Dear maintainers,

same here, updating to 54.0.2840.101-1 makes chromium crash on the
website gmail.com, with "Aw snap" message; please find below the
message found when launching chromium from command line.

Reverting to testing version 53.0.2785.143-1 solves the issue.

I suspect the problem is coming from hi-resolution (my screen is HD
3200x1800) ; indeed:

 - with 53.0.2785.143-1 i have to start chromium with the command
 chromium --force-device-scale-factor=1.8
otherwise scaling is wrong (fonts too small).

 - a previous 53 version on unstable was also crashing on gmail.com with "Aw
snap"

 - for the version 54.0.2840.101-1, starting either from 'chromium'
command or 'chromium --force-device-scale-factor=1.8' gives the same
correct scaling.

Best,

Ara

Bug#833501: Aw snap while using Facebook

2016-09-06 Thread Ara Keary
Package: chromium
Version: 53.0.2785.92-2
Followup-For: Bug #833501

Hi,

i confirm a similar behaviour occurs on my system, which has HDMI screen, when
i start chromium with
  chromium --force-device-scale-factor=1.8

or when including a file containing

export GDK_DPI_SCALE=0.5
export GDK_SCALE=2
export CHROMIUM_FLAGS="$CHROMIUM_FLAGS --force-device-scale-factor=2"

in /etc/chromium.d/

However, the problem does not occur when i remove those options (but then the
displayed result is not usable, to small to read).

Best,

Ara

Bug#825474: libunistring0: upgrading to 0.9.6-1.1 leads to a problem with shared libraries

2016-05-26 Thread Ara Keary
Package: libunistring0
Version: 0.9.6-1.1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Dear maintainer and non-maintainer,

upgrading libunistring0 to 0.9.6-1.1:amd64 leads to a problem with shared
libraries in other packages.

For instance, nautilus (in its version 3.20.1-2:amd64) won't start, sending the
following error message:

nautilus: error while loading shared libraries: libunistring.so.0: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

as seen when launching nautilus from command line ; then nautilus does not
open. Restarting gnome-shell does not solve the issue.

It seems that a shared library is missing. Could you investigate the problem?
Many thanks.

Downgrading to libunistring0 testing 0.9.3-5.2+b1 resolves the issue (nautilus
starts without error message).

Best,

Ara

Bug#811349: nvidia-driver-bin: 343.36-3 driver blocks startup in a periodic state

2016-01-18 Thread Ara Keary
Package: nvidia-driver-bin
Version: 340.96-4
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Dear maintainers,

updating the nvidia drivers from 340.96-4 to 343.36-3 (new version in unstable)
renders the system unusable: after installation and restart, display (in text
mode!) becomes impermanent, entering in a very fast quasi-periodic oscillation
between a black screen and text console login.

No text could be entered while attempting to log in. I did not insist, fearing
that the state of the system could damage the video card.

Restarting in Debian Recovery mode and reverting to 340.96-4 (as i had to do to
fill this bug report) solves the problem.

Report bug also states :
  nvidia-driver/install-even-if-unsupported-gpu-exists: false
  nvidia-driver/check-for-unsupported-gpu: true

I'm not sure this is the right package agains which to report the bug.

Best,

Ara

aptitude install libgnutls-deb0-28:i386
The following packages will be upgraded:

is to be installed.
 libgnutls-deb0-28:i386 : Breaks: libgnutls-deb0-28 (!= 3.3.19-1) but 3.3.18-1

Bug#801361: [systemd] attempts to unmount filesystems at end of boot, INCLUDING ROOT

2015-10-11 Thread Ara Keary
Many thanks for the very fast solution!
Updating from 227-1 to 227-2 solves
• unmounting of partitions at boot
• ssh rsa/dsa-key authentification issue that occurred if partitions were
manually mounted (with: mount -a) and gdm manually started under version
227-1

PS, downgrading (under amd64)
 systemd libpam-systemd libsystemd libsystemd:i386
to 226-4 on source and destination systems also solves the rsa/dsa ssh key

Tell me if any log file is needed

Bug#801361: [systemd] attempts to unmount filesystems at end of boot, INCLUDING ROOT

2015-10-09 Thread Ara Keary
Hi,

same here: no proper boot after 227-1 → 226-4 systemd update.

/var/log/syslog show attempts to unount EVERY partition ; only the
unmounting of / fails (fortunately...).

Under amd64 multiarch, downgrading
 systemd libpam-systemd libsystemd libsystemd:i386
to 226-4 solves the problem

Before downgrading, solved manually by mounting manually all partitions
from root console
 mount -a
and restarting gdm
 service gdm restart

Other symptom, if helpful: trying to log with rsa/dsa key fails on every
machine i can access to.
Could all this mess be related to a (pam) *system-wise authentification
problem*?

On fresh testing → unstable 1 day old update: same symptoms. Thus seems
unrelated to old .conf file problem.

Maintainers: i really truly appreciate ∞ly your work, but do you test
updates before uploading? ...

Best log decrypting,

Ara

Hi,

this also fixes the problem with gdm 3.14.2-2 and glx-diversions 0.6.0 .

One should thus open a bug for a package which forgets to implement this
user addition (upon an upgrade?).
Any idea of which?

Indeed, reverting glx-diversions 0.5.1 requires reverting nvidia-... to
340.93-1 and solves the problem.
However, reverting nvidia-... to 340.93-1 but keeping glx-diversions to
0.6.0 does not solve it – which gives some evidence that glx-diversions
0.6.0 is the culprit.

You can try to kill gdm from a root text console and launch X through the
startx command from your user text console : then gdm should start without
crashing. It thus seems that this is in the very first stages of gdm
launching that the issue arises.

Hoping this helps ; i can't find other interesting log files than syslog
and messages, tell me if i should look another one.

Gdm starts and stops with a grey screen 'Oops...' with no exit but to go to
text console mode

A workaround is the following:
.. stop gdm on the text console, root user:
service gdm stop
.. login on another text console on my user account
.. launch X server by:
startx

Then, no problem, no password is asked, gnome-session starts as usual.

Let me know if i can provide more information.

Best,

Ara

Bug#798335: testdisk: Dependency problem renders package impossible to install

2015-09-08 Thread Ara Keary
Package: testdisk
Version: 6.14-3+b4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear maintainer,

current version 6.14-3+b4 of testdisk depends on libntfs-3g853, a virtual
package formerly provided by
  ntfs-3g 1:2014.2.15AR.3-3
but not anymore by the new version
  ntfs-3g 1:2015.3.14AR.1-1
which in its stead provides libntfs-3g861 .

This renders the installation of testdisk impossible in unstable.

Consider also the opportunity to package the new 7.0 upstream version
  http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_7.0_Release

Best,

Ara
