Contrary to its being marked Fixed this error still appears on my system every time I apt-get upgrade. Here's a cut-and-paste: Setting up postfix (2.4.0-2) ... Postfix configuration was untouched. If you need to make changes, edit /etc/postfix/main.cf (and others) as needed. To view Postfix configuration values, see postconf(1). After modifying main.cf, be sure to run '/etc/init.d/postfix reload'. Bug#380663: Supplemental: almost immediate failure
Needing to print a document today, I purged and reinstalled cupsys again. I was able to print two copies of my one three-page document. Now when I try to print a different, one-page document cupsd exits silently. I can restart it at the moment with /etc/init.d/cupsys restart, but printing the document causes it to exit again. I just tested on another one-pager, and it also fails. Again, when I get the uninformative Error while printing message from oowriter, cupsd dies, but can be restarted. I also can't print a text file using lp. Same behavior. I'll repeat myself. Nothing should ever exit silently. Most certainly no system daemon should do so. -- Carl Fink [EMAIL PROTECTED] Read my blog at nitpickingblog.blogspot.com. Reviews! Observations! Bug#380663: Cupsys starts when first installed, but silently exits and will never run again
Package: cupsys Version: 1.2.1-3 Severity: grave Twice, now, I've had the experience of having to not only remove, but purge cupsys and reinstall it in order to get my bog-standard HP Laserjet to work. Both times, everything was fine immediately after the reinstall, but when I tried to print a few days later, nothing happened. lpq reports lpq: Unable to connect to server. /etc/init.d/cupsys restart returns no visible error, but lpq still says it can't connect to server and ps reports no cupsys process. And there's NOTHING in error_log. Literally, it's an empty file. Nothing in /var/log/messages either. No program should ever, ever fail silently. I really do NOT want to have to reinstall CUPS every time I need to print. Bug#352632: mailman: fails to send mail with mysterious Python error in log
Joost asked about permissions on various directories. That led me to the real problem: I had accidentally put the archives in /var/lib/mailman/mailman/archives, not /var/lib/mailman/archives. Fixing that fixed everything. Sorry to bother you. I'm experiencing exactly the symptoms Lukas Ruf reported, with 2.2.8-9. I'll be glad to forward any other information that might help.
