Bug#459931: Planning to upload caudium 1.4.12

2008-06-14 Thread Henrik Andreasson

On Fri, 13 Jun 2008, Christian Perrier wrote:

I'm very pleased that you'll help me even though it's a onetime upload.
I do have a new sponsor hopefully soon.

In this bug, Henrik mentioned that he prepared a new upstream version
with him as maintainer, to solve this bug and bring caudium in sync
with upstream.

However, trying to build Henrik's package in pbuilder, I went on a
FTBFS.

Actually, this FTBFS is #475980. So using the patch proposed in that
bug would fix the two RC bugs.

I therefore propose to upload that version with the following
changelog, which merges all successive versions prepared by Henrik but
never uploaded. I would increase the epoch so that people who could
have used interim releases by Henrik can upgrade.

Henrik, that would set you as *official maintainer*, so I need an ACK
by you that it's OK. Please note that I don't really intend to remain
involved in that package which I have no interest into (I just went on
it because of an old l10n bug!)

Changelog:

caudium (3:1.4.12-1) unstable; urgency=low

 * New maintainer (Closes: #411675)
 * New upstream version, 1.4.12
 * It is hopefully fixing non installability on sid
   Closes: #459931.
 * moved caudium-dev and caudium-perl to architecture: all
 * moved some devel files into caudium-dev
 * moved caudium-dev files to /usr/share/caudium
 * moved caudium-perl files to /usr/share/caudium
 * fixed lintian warnings and errors
 * New package translation Portuguese translation for debconf
   messages, pt (Closes: #436553)
 * Repacked caudium as architecture all, thus caudium now uses
   /usr/share/caudium as serverdir instead of
   /usr/lib/caudium (Closes: #21)
 * Fix FTBFS with correct include path. Closes: #475980
 * Add a watch file. Closes: #463346
 * ported fixes done by QA-team 2:1.4.9.1-4 and 2:1.4.9.1-5
 * fixed configure-stamp, so binary target don't re-configure all the time
 * fixed upgrade from old package, caudium-1.4.9 wouldn't stop before upgrade
 * Merge caudium-foo on ftp-masters recommendation
 * Fixes missing directory /var/log/caudium/localhost
 * Fixed permissions on /etc/caudium/servers
 * Fixed removeing dpkg-statoverrides at removal
 * Fixed chmod:ing cache files when upgrading
 * remove upper limit for pike package in control file
 * patch for apt-get as a client
 * fix the ssl-patch
 * fixed clean target
 * added patch for cgi.pike that was broken
 * added patch for start-caudium to force caudium-nbio instead of the new
   suffler that seems broken
 * added patch for ssl that was broken
 * removes vera*ttf and lucida_unicode.ttf from source
 * remove recomends caudium-modules when depending on it in debian/control
 * removed debian/ - it only comes with the patch now
   removed also jars(binary only) from orig source
 * Fixed more not-binnmuable-any-depends-all, with (= source:Version})
   in control file
 * Fixed not-binnmuable-any-depends-all, with (= source:Version})
   in control file

//Henrik Andreasson

Package: caudium
Version: 2:1.4.9.1-3
Severity: grave
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: qa-uninstallable
Justification: Uninstallable in sid.

Hi!

Please note that caudium is currently uninstallable in sid. The error
is:

   caudium: Depends: pike7.6-core (= 7.6.93-99) but 7.6.112-1 is to be
installed
Depends: pike7.6-image (= 7.6.93-99) but 7.6.112-1 is to be
installed

Please note that _several_ packages depend on caudium. So, fixing this
would solve the uninstallability of several packages in sid.

Thanks!

I have a new aproach, shall we downgrade pike?

If debian refuses to upgrade maybe we shall try to downgrade pike to a
stable version (http://pike.ida.liu.se/pub/pike/latest-stable/Pike-v7.6.86.tar.gz)

decide on the best way of solving the problem with caudium in debian

Ideas I have:
* Use the newer 7.6.98 I've build (avail. at:
http://thoth.han.pp.se/debian)
* Seek the problem and solve it in the current package (7.6.93)
* Go back to a older version (which should we use then)

I won't have time tomorrow. I _might_ be able to join 1-2 hours later...

The best would be to backport the latest patch to the current debian
version, if the current version actually fixes the problems. Or find the
problem with the current version directly.

Bye,

My guess would be that the _Caudium module produces illegal svalues. Is
the illegal pike type value consistent? If not, it is probably an
uninitialized memory problem.

Note that detection of illegal types was recently improved in Pike.

Ok, I can reproduce this after all; it just wasn't obvious because the init
script returns success, and only afterwards does pike7.6 segfault when
launching caudium. Not exactly good practice for an init script.

I can get caudium to work in this box if i recompile caudium with debug...

Doesn't your original report say that rebuilding with debug gives a SIGABRT?

Well, I'm not a very experienced developer, but I did get a working
caudium at several times (when compiling with debug, without debug alwas
fails) but I realize that compiling several times to get a working binary
is not ok, but maybe a way to find the bug...
