Bug#1029955: scrape-schema-recipe: missing build dependency, python3-extruct

2023-01-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Source: scrape-schema-recipe
Version: 0.2.0-1
Severity: serious
Tags: ftbfs

scrape-schema-recipe fails to build from source in a clean minimal
build environment. It appears to have a test dependency on
python3-extruct. The package builds when I add that package name to
the list of Build-Depends. You may also need to adjust the Depends to
ensure the resulting package has everything it needs to work.

By the way, extruct will need a source-only upload to be able to
migrate to Testing. Although, extruct depends on python-pyrdfa which
is not in Testing because it no longer is successfully buildable.

Bug#1029380: sra-toolkit: Has hard-coded dependency on obsolete libncbi-wvdb2 (>= 2.10.6+dfsg-3~),

2023-01-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Package: sra-toolkit

Severity: serious

sra-toolkit has a manually Depends: libncbi-wvdb2 (>= 2.10.6+dfsg-3~)

But libncbi-wvdb2 is no longer built from source.

Generally, you should let ${shlibs:Depends} add the dependency so that
a simple rebuild can handle many soname bump transitions.

Bug#1029196: kylin-video: Has hard dependency on libmpv1 which doesn't exist

2023-01-19 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Source: kylin-video
Severity: serious

kylin-video is unable to migrate to Testing because it has Depends:

libmpv1 is no longer built in Debian Testing; the new version is libmpv2.

Please remove that line. It will automatically get a dependency on
libmpv2 when it builds against libmpv-dev.

Cinnamon upstream is more than welcome to add a backported mozjs* to
the list of custom packages they provide. The absence of the latest
mozjs on Debian Stable or Ubuntu LTS does not need to be a blocker at
all.

But I have news: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS now has mozjs102 in jammy-proposed.
The intent is to release this as a security update there soon. See
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1993214 for more details.

If that works well, we may continue to backport new major mozjs
releases in the future for Ubuntu LTS. Perhaps for Debian 12 too.

Bug#1029167: mozjs78: Fails to build on armhf and armel

2023-01-18 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Source: mozjs78
Version: 78.15.0-6
Severity: serious
Tags: ftbfs
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

mozjs78 fails to build on armhf & armel.

I have little interest in working on this bug myself. I only stumbled
across this bug because I applied a build fix needed by Debian's
switch to Python 3.11. mozjs78 has been End of Life since October 2021
and is only still in Debian because Cinnamon hasn't switched to
mozjs102 yet.

By the way, 0ad has an embedded copy of mozjs78 and still builds on
armhf so maybe it includes a fix or a workaround for this build
failure.

I'm pasting the end of the build log below, but the actual build error
may have been earlier in the log.

Since gtkmm4.0 is new to Debian, a broken autopkgtest isn't a
regression and doesn't block migration to Testing.

I've fixed the one line seen in the autopkgtest failure, but…

We need to either port the minimal gtkmm app to gtkmm4 or drop it and
just use the included demos apps to test whether simple gtkmm apps
build and work.

Sorry, I didn't see your message until now.

I believe mozjs91 started failing to build on arm with gcc-12. Perhaps
that was related to this breakage or maybe Mozilla changed things a
bit more than usual in the 91.12 ESR release.

By not bumping the Build-Depends, gjs was able to build everywhere.
But then it couldn't migrate because on most architectures it got a
Depends on the new mozjs so that didn't really help.

Anyway, this is all fixed in Unstable as gjs now depends on mozjs102
and mozjs102 now builds on all release architectures.

I'll try to remember that a binnmu would have been better in this kind
of situation.

I saw that you pushed a debian/master branch. We use git-buildpackage
and therefore we also need the pristine-tar and upstream/latest
branches updated. If your local repo doesn't have those branches, you
can revert back to the commit before you imported the new version and
then run

gbp import-orig --uscan

And it should handle updating all 3 branches. Then (force-) push the 3
branches and the git tag upstream/0_git20220918.gitdc4a165

Also, please git rm the Debian patches you remove from debian/patches/series

Bug#1019486: gdm3: Gdm3 crashes (oh no something has gone wrong)

2022-09-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Control: severity -1 important

My best guess is that this issue is caused by your mixing and matching
pieces from Unstable and Testing.

The automatically included dependency list doesn't have enough details
for me to tell exactly where the problem is.

We are doing a large and complicated transition this week affecting
several different libraries and services that all need to be upgraded
together to ensure that things like gdm (which uses gnome-shell)
continue to work. I did try adding many Breaks and dependency bumps,
but I'm sure I did not add enough to cover every possible attempted
incomplete upgrade. I think the transition will migrate to Testing
tonight or tomorrow night which will make it simpler to be sure you
have all the right packages.

Bug#1019269: gnome-books: Adapt to libgepub 0.7

2022-09-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Source: gnome-books
Version: 40.0-3

gnome-books needs to be updated to build against libgepub 0.7. This is
probably a fairly simple change except that
https://bugs.debian.org/1015138 is a bit awkward to deal with.

GNOME doesn't support GNOME Books any more. The recommended
replacement app is Foliate.

Thank you for reporting this bug. There are 2 ways forward: either
pushing GNOME Builder 43 to Unstable or revert the devhelp change.
GNOME Builder 43 requires glib 2.73 which is unable to migrate to
Testing yet. So the only fix is to revert devhelp for now.

Bug#1019106: gnome-initial-setup: Needs updating for evolution-data-server 3.46

2022-09-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Source: gnome-initial-setup
Version: 42.2-1
Severity: serious
User: pkg-gnome-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: evolution-3.46

gnome-initial-setup needs to be updated for the big
evolution-data-server transition (which switches to libsoup3 and
librest 0.9).

This is done in the 43 version but the 43 version also requires the
GTK4 version of webkit2gtk (the 5.0 API) which is only built in
Experimental currently.

Therefore, my plan is for gnome-initial-setup to become temporarily
uninstallable in Unstable and removed from Testing until webkit2gtk
2.38 is uploaded to Unstable later this month. This allows us to
complete the rest of the transition.

gconf-editor was removed from Testing two and a half years ago.

Its only purpose is to enable editing gconf settings which are only
used by a very small number of packages and are functionally obsolete.

I remember that the last time I tried to remove this package years
ago, the current maintainer had strong feelings against it so I
figured it was best for me to file this bug first.

Bug#1017491: gnome-maps: Switch to libsoup3

2022-08-16 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Source: gnome-maps
Severity: serious
Version: 42.3-2
Forwarded: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-maps/-/issues/457

gnome-maps needs to switch to libsoup3. Currently it uses libsoup2.4
and depends on several libraries that are being switched to use
libsoup3. It's not possible for an app to link against both libsoup2.4
and libsoup3. We also don't intend to maintain multiple copies of
those libraries to preserve the libsoup2.4 build option.

Therefore, I believe we will need to temporarily remove gnome-maps

Source: nautilus-dropbox

Severity: serious
Tags: bookworm sid
Forwarded: https://github.com/dropbox/nautilus-dropbox/issues/101

nautilus-dropbox doesn't build with nautilus 43. nautilus 43 has
switched to GTK4 and its API has received significant changes.
nautilus-dropbox will need major changes to work with the new release.

Nautilus 43 is available in Debian experimental. However, it may be
difficult to install because it uses gnome-desktop 43 and you'll need
everything you're using to be built against gnome-desktop 43 also.
Perhaps the easiest way to handle installing if you don't want to wait for
the gnome-desktop transition to begin is to revert 4420025 in nautilus
and the corresponding bump in debian/control.in and rebuild nautilus.
