Bug#636459: Breaks unrelated software

2021-05-18 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Hi

oh, and no, the fix for #881725 does not actually help, thanks to this
bug.
It keeps the systemd-private-* dir around, but everything inside is
gone.

Bug#982685: sl-modem: Depends on removed package

2021-02-13 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Package: sl-modem
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

the prelink, and with it the execstack, package got removed. You do have
a build-dependency on exec-stack.

Your package is in non-free, so its not as serious as in main, but still
nice to fix.
Please either drop the b-d or, if you really need it, reintroduce
execstack (as an own package without the broken prelink part) to use it.

Bug#885195: guile-2.0 removed

2021-02-13 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Hi,

i just removed guile-2.0 from unstable.
While your package already won't be part of the next release, it will
now also be unusable in unstable.

Please either upload a fixed version or request removal of the package
by reassigning this bug to ftp.debian.org, retitling it appropriatly.

I can do this for you, if I don't hear back/see no action within 3
weeks, I will reassign it, so please either finally update or beat me to
the reassign. Thanks.

Bug#982683: mysql-workbench: Uses no-longer existing package for build, remove?

2021-02-13 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Package: mysql-workbench
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

mysql-workbench uses gcc-8 for building, known through bug #944177 for
more than a year.

Nothing seems to happen, package looks unmaintained. gcc-8 is now
removed from Debian, so this package either must have an update, or
should be removed too.

Please either fix this with an upload removing the usage of gcc-8, or
reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal, and retitle it
something like

RM: mysql-workbench -- ROM; outdated, unmaintained

Thank you!

I intend to do this myself in 3 weeks, if there is no reply. So if you
are on it and need a little more time, please tell.

It has been removed despite this comment. This causes a bunch of
breakage.

At the request of the release-team, we re-injected the packages which
were still in testing back into unstable. Should be back at the next
dinstall.

Thanks Mark, and for the rest: If you don't want us to act on a rm bug,
tag it moreinfo (if its likely to need action later) *or* close it.
That ensures that it won't be acted on, as the interface we mostly use

Bug#924151: grub2-common: wrong grub.cfg for efi boot and fully encrypted disk

2019-03-09 Thread Joerg Jaspert

Package: grub2-common
Version: 2.02+dfsg1-11
Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,

I'm unsure about the severity, so feel free to adjust it. But it did
make my system unbootable twice already, and as its a setup one can
get directly from within debian-installer, it would be nice if it can be
fixed before buster.

Setup: A new buster install with a fully (except for the EFI partition)
encrypted disk. That includes /boot as encrypted, as /boot is just part
of / here. In that setup, grub-install writes a
/boot/efi/EFI/debian/grub.cfg that contains something like

--8<---cut here---start->8---
cryptomount -u e37941013b6c4997bfcdff6145ee0918
search.fs_uuid a6cd673c-de1d-474f-8808-2ae4fdc7e755 root
lvmid/0l70u1-APaW-hXej-Sn6a-Nnsb-ue1X-0cFW3Y/APpMrR-2yO8-7EOl-V1pi-DH3a-eNby-lwWX3K
set prefix=($root)'/boot/grub'

configfile $prefix/grub.cfg
--8<---cut here---end--->8---

Which tries to be clever to not duplicate the actual information in
grub.cfg by loading it from the usual /boot/grub/grub.cfg place.

Unfortunately the cryptomount line above appears to *not* be enough to
enable grub to decrypt /, so it can not load the real config and you end
up in a rather unusable tiny grub shell. Ugh.

A cp /boot/grub/grub.cfg /boot/efi/EFI/debian/grub.cfg fixes it and
makes it nicely bootable. No idea which of the many extra commands in
the full grub.cfg are doing the magic, but they do. grub asks for
passphrase, then takes ages (easily 45 seconds) to decrypt, then shows
grub menu and boots. Yay.

I do get the same small efi grub.cfg again if i run another grub-install
--efi-directory=/boot/efi/EFI/debian/ so I guess it comes from there.

And what guarantees that they will always be together? On CDs, partial
mirrors (ok, not so important), when something gets removed? And our
download links (say, packages.d.o) dont tell you to also download file
X, y and z for getting all of the source you need.

Bug#864025: ganeti-instance-debootstrap: illegal option for fgrep

Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,

vm I get:

Sat Jun 3 13:21:27 2017 * running the instance OS create scripts...
Failure: command execution error:
Could not add os for instance XY on node AA: OS create script failed (exited
with exit code 1), last lines in the log file:
grep: unrecognized option '--no-reread'
Usage: grep [OPTION]... PATTERN [FILE]...
Try 'grep --help' for more information.
This disk is currently in use - repartitioning is probably a bad idea.
Umount all file systems, and swapoff all swap partitions on this disk.
Use the --no-reread flag to suppress this check.

sfdisk: Use the --force flag to overrule all checks.

It does seem to be in common.sh, where the fgrep call wants a "--"
before the "--no-reread" search pattern, that was all it took to make it
work again.

No. He said that a decision between libav and ffmpeg would still have to be

He gave a green light to migration, it is very clear.
Please answer my question, I'm not sure who I am talking to:
Please clarify if the opinion you shared here is your own private

Note that as a DD you can engage in discussions about ffmpeg but can't
 keep the block alive.

Reading this thread and how release team members get hit to allow one
package into testing makes me want to use my ftpmaster hat to remove it
entirely from Debian. Have you read their delegation? It's the release
teams right to keep a package out of testing, even if you don't like
them using that right.
And that goes for every single member, so sod the your own private
opinion or teams position, as soon as someone tells you no, then its
a no.

As usual with people using their delegated rights you have ways to go
get to change that. Tons of repeating on a list thread/bug is not one of
them. Especially not as you got told how it can get unblocked.

as we have been asked about this license problem and not yet provided an

Either the licensing is changed so that the incompatibility no longer
is there (by either getting the license changed, or exceptions in the
other parts, or by using replacement software which does not have
license problems, whatever works), or failing that, the package(s) need
 to go from Debian.

2010-11-03 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Hi

There are no usage restrictions on this file, feel free to
distribute this code and associated files.

No. non-free by omission doesnt exist, no usage restrictions is what
counts and obviously includes the right to modify+distribute it, else it
would be a usage restriction, d'oh. Compare also with the WTF licence,
which
only says do what the fuck you want with this software, which is a
 perfectly fine+free software licence.

Plain wrong. modify/distribution is no usage, its modify / distribution.
And thw WTFPL says much more than what you quoted, and that more is making
it free. The text above is not.

IIRC, the d-d-a mail asked to use normal severity. But maybe in this
case it is better to use RC severity now. The release team can still
 adjust it as necessary.
Is there any progress on this?

N9on visible, but slowly. It has about the same stand than bpo, and im
right now fighting with that. (Database is fun)

Bug#586143: And where do I now get a 64bit DSL rescue disk?

2010-06-18 Thread Joerg Jaspert

this grub version needs to be removed immediately from unstable. It
discourages enormously the use of unstable to filter for testing.

Oh sre.

No. I'll be fixing it very soon (as soon as I get a few hours in a row
where I can concentrate on it); removing it would make it very difficult
for me to find problems. ftpmaster, please disregard this. unstable is
 unstable.

There is no RM bug filed, so no action to take anyways.

Bug#585908: [Support @ ETI] RE: DNS setup

2010-06-17 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Greetings! Does this address your concerns?

We checked the DNS and found that the zone was missing the redundant DNS
servers. So we have added them and reloaded the zone for your domain. What
might have happened is that in a high load scenario if the 1
admin.eticomm.net became unavailable, and there was no other name server to
go to, then the request could timeout. With the redundant name servers added
in now, if one doesn't answer in time, then it will automatically go to the
2nd and 3rd and so on.

Its sad it took them multiple kicks to find such an easy error, but it
seems they now managed to get it better setup, yes.

Greetings! The maintainer address is c...@debian.org, which forwards
to the address you cite below, and does so successfully, as proven by
the receipt of this message, headers of which are included here:

Whatever is up with your address, it fails regularly. This wasnt the
first time. And funny, it just happened again. Reopening, and also
assigning to the other package it failed on.

Whatever is up with it, it rejects mail - serious bug. You might want
to try working with DSA to find out whats up between your system and the
debian.org exims, I'm not making this up.

I don't dispute that you are seeing problems, just that the problem
does not lie with the mailing address nor the packages against which
you are filing bugs. Please kindly refile if you would like against
the appropriate mail admin pseudo package if you would like to pursue
 this further.

Yes the problem is with your side.
Dont close it again before you havent fixed this mess. (Alternatively we
can stop *any* processing of any upload of yours, also stops the
bounces).

Hint: You may either follow my advice and talk to DSA or check your DNS
setup for your domain yourself. That some machines work is pure random
luck, with the way it is currently setup. Hint: Look into your glue and
then the crap that the actual dns report about your domain. (And make
sure admin.eticomm.net isnt down every other minute)

checking the box approved by DAM could trigger an insert into the LDAP

This isn't really a bug in the package, but anyway, I have added ftp-
master.debian.org to my spam filter's whitelist so that mails from there
will get through. I won't remove the spam filtering completely.

You should also add the bts, everything that comes via
packages.debian.org or any other debian.org mailserver.

YOu know, there are plenty of working anti-spam solutions that dont
require an idiotic deletion of mail forcing action by the sender, but
that instead work...

Uhm, do you get that consistently? It works just fine here. Maybe you
tried exactly when projectb in merkel gets reconstructed from the dumps,
which *maybe* makes the database not exist for a small period of time.

Unfortunately postgres currently can't do any real (and working)

Bug#506977: bug 506977 ( ubuntu 275688)

2008-11-27 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Please have a look at bug 506977 (of which the last and most explaining
comment is below this email). The issue involved is a copyright
infringement in the source of fpc before version 2.2.2 (i.e. everything
version except for the one in unstable). I fear that we should either
update or remove the sources of fpc on all but unstable releases.

Well. Looked.

In clear, either FPC + Lazarus should get out of Lenny or should be
 updated.

You miss etch, which has an even older 2.0.0, so that needs to be fixed
too.

Now, having talked to the RMs for the various releases:

etch - will get done within two weeks. We need time to prepare and
   coordinate a new stable release.

lenny - it will, together with its reverse dependencies, get removed
within a day (well, next britney + archive sync run)
Its unfortunately way too large a code change to sync the new
version from unstable to lenny.

Bug#469039: linda: Should this package be removed?

2008-03-02 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Package: linda
Severity: serious

Hi Maintainer,

what are your plans with this package? It currently is pretty outdated,
has a good number of bugs, is outdated with current policy, the last
upload was in June 2007 and linda is also no longer in use in the
archive software, as lintian has all checks that linda had at some time,
si I removed linda calls a while ago.

But you might have something in development, or some plans to get it up
to speed again?! In case you have that - please reply and tag/close this
bug accordingly.

If not, I propose to remove it from the archive soon, so it won't
release with lenny. If you agree to this, please reassign the bug to
ftp.debian.org with the following two lines, or tell me to do it:

reassign $bugnumber ftp.debian.org
retitle $bugnumber RM: linda -- RoM; deprecated

Thank you and thanks for your past work on this package!

Remove it. Lets say Linda didn't meet my expectations, and most people
shunned her in favour of Lintian anyway.

Thanks for the quick response.

Just for the record - it *was* in use. Possibly more than you thought.
At least sponsors did use it a lot, there have been many changelog
entries about changes for linda in the past, and it was pretty helpful
in NEW in the past.

Bug#423250: x264: not for debian - mpeg patent stuff

2007-05-10 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Package: x264, ftp.debian.org
Severity: serious

Hi

oh meh, sorry for this mess, I shouldnt have allowed this package to go
into Debian main in the first place. Now - it contains mpeg4 stuff, try
googling for mpeg4 patent once and you know why it needs to go out.
(And also because the general debian way is to not include known
enforced patent stuff into the archive).

(Search result #1 is http://petition.eurolinux.org/pr/pr18.html )

Package seems to only have one rdepends, same maintainer, so shouldnt be
too hard to get removed. For now I schedule it (for me) to do it
somewhere on Saturday, so you have a little bit of time left. :)

cryptsetup should be fixed to tell the user which key he should

Thats why i still wait.

Therefore, we cannot sanely remove it right now.

Yeah. Im waiting until we have the free fork replacement ready (slowly
working on it), cdrtools will go out when that goes in.

One possibility is to do an epoched upload of the previous version, that
doesn't have this controversial legal issue around it? It doesn't seem
controversial to me either to apply code patches from upstream to this
version if so needed, as the controversy doesn't include the code
itself. This allows to not have this controversy hold etch hostage.

its more than that. We go from a slightly later version whith replacing
the non-free build-system that has, but not from a version where the
rest also switched to non-free license combinations.
And no, upstream now has 80% CDDL, which is incompatible to GPL, so you
cant simply take patches.

For the record, I do not (yet) hereby judge on the legal controversy
itself, there is no ftp-master position on the matter (yet).

Mine is to remove cdrtools and replace it with a forked one.

2006-08-11 Thread Joerg Jaspert
reassign 377109 ftp.debian.org
retitle 377109 RM: cdrtools -- RoM: non-free, license problems
thanks

Hi guys,

ok well, as JS stays with an interpretation of CDDL and GPL that the
whole world does not follow (all wrong, of course :) ), lets go and fix
this. The sane way is to remove cdrtools from Debian main (unstable) and
add a free replacement, most possible a fork from the last free version
(which had only the CDDL licensed build scripts, which can easily be
replaced by some automake thing). If you want to join that effort -
contact me.

For Debian etch I dont think its a big problem right now, dependencies
will stop it from getting removed before we release.

Based of the solution for the Transportation problem as described in

*/

That gives no statement about the actual used license, and no rights for
anything. Undistributable.

If you get that fixed you also want to fix your debian/copyright file,
you miss that multiple files have LGPL, not only GPL. You need to list
all (C) holders and licenses...
Also you should read the thread behind
http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2003/12/msg00188.html to see how to
imporve your copyright file even more.

yada rebuilds the debian/control file when it is run, *AND* it goes and

Bug#331418: php4-pear-log: ELICENSE - licensed under non-free The PHP License, version 2.02

2005-10-03 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Package: php4-pear-log
Severity: serious

Sorry, but the license doesnt really fit the package. You have a php
addon thing, using PHP license 2.02, but unfortunately for you this
license cant really be used with anything else than PHP itself.

It always only talks about the product PHP, not about software.
And php-whatever isnt really PHP from the PHP group.
Point 5 in the older version 2) is also an advertisement clause.
Bad thing which is usually discouraged.

And, at the end there is the following text:
---
This software consists of voluntary contributions made by many
individuals on behalf of the PHP Group.
The PHP Group can be contacted via Email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] For more
information on the PHP Group and the PHP project, please see
http://www.php.net. This product includes the Zend Engine, freely
available at http://www.zend.com.
---
I doubt that your package is made on behalf of the PHP group. Or that
it includes the Zend Engine.

As a good solution for this I suggest to talk to your upstream. Looking
at the license they choosed they do want to make it available for
everyone, so I suggest to use either the original BSD license or the
LGPL.

The other solution is to reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org requesting
the removal of this package.

And now please stip filing those bugs, thanks.

Yes, it is a bug.
Yes, it is in different source package.
No, no need to file them all - its all one maintainer. And if its in one
it will be in all the others too, no need to flood the BTS and annoy all
the ones reading the bts mails and the maint.
