Bug#1030670: Does not depend on libspng0

2023-02-06 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: libspng-dev
Version: 0.7.3-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

Hi Andrea!

While trying to build against the new libspng-dev, I found that even my
build was issuing -lspng, it would fail because it could not find it.

It turns out you're missing a dependency against libspng0 itself.

Patch attached for that.

Additionally, I've seen the following too:

- spng.pc declares:

Requires.private: zlib

If I understand correctly, this is not a public dependency, which means
libspng-dev does not need to depend on zlib-dev. In fact, that's one of
the features SPNG advertises.

- I would downgrade the Recommends on libspng-doc to a Suggests, to
avoid pulling in fonts and other unneeded packages on the 95% of
  cases.

Thank you,
Jordi

While working on GIMP 3.0 packaging, I stumbled on:

configure:31882: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors "libjxl >= 0.6.1"
Package libhwy was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libhwy.pc'

Package 'libhwy', required by 'libjxl', not found

Please add all the required -dev packages to libjxl-dev dependencies,
so building against libjxl is possible without adding any extra

The current version in experimental has the following in its .pc file:

I can't reproduce this.

One of these two might be important:

> Architecture: x32 (x86_64)

Ie, a x32 specific issue

Or more probably:

> Versions of packages mailutils depends on:
> ii  libmailutils8 1:3.13-1
> ii  mailutils-common  1:3.14-1

This version mismatch between mailutils and its libs.

It shouldn't happen, but if this is the problem, I'll look into it and
will tighten the dependency.

I have prepared a source package for bullseye, with a debdiff attached.

I have built it in a bullseye chroot, but I assume you'll want a source
only upload.

I'll upload as soon as you ack it, and will prepare a similar package
for buster at your request.

Thanks for the heads up and for the NMU, I just uploaded 1.2.5-2 to
avert this crisis. I'm sorry this happened, the 1.2.5-1 had been
prepared for quite a few days before the upload so the timing of the

I'm aware, yes. I need to dig into this because it's most probably
related to build options applied to each arch that has changed

Bug#918417: Status update

2019-02-18 Thread Jordi Mallach
Hi,

I'm looking at this bug because it's menacing my package goiardi.

The removal count expires today; in the meanwhile goiardi 0.11.9 has
been uploaded a few days ago, and does no longer require -x-exp-dev to
build.

The other two source packages requiring -x-exp-dev to build are
kubernetes and cadvisor, which are not in testing.

I have tried to build the newest snapshot of golang-golang-x-dev but it
seems to fail in the same way as the current one.

I'll upload the resulting package anyway.

Interesting. It works for me using an internal backport to stretch.

Have you tried downgrading to 4.0.4?
https://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20181227T030651Z/pool/main/s/sogo/sogo_4.0.4-2_amd64.deb
and
https://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20181227T030651Z/pool/main/s/sogo/sogo-common_4.0.4-2_all.deb

Let me know if this version works,

Bug#858269: Fails to build, test try things not allowed as non-root

2017-05-22 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: docker.io
Version: 1.13.0~ds1-3

Hi Tim,

I've extended the patches so they fix the testsuite errors.

Attached are the new two patches for debian/patches. With them, docker.io
builds with a non-priviledged user.

Bug#858268: swarmkit: FTBFS due to not strict enough deps on golang-gogoprotobuf

2017-03-20 Thread Jordi Mallach

Hello,

swarmkit fails to build on stretch, with golang-gogoprotobuf 0.3.

It does build against 0.3+git20170120.144.265e960d-1 from sid so I suggest
bumping the Build-Dep to at least 0.3+git20170120.144.265e960d-1~ to make
backports easier.

2017-03-20 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: containerd

debian/rules contains:

  (cd obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/src/github.com/docker/containerd && \

which is totally not going to work for any of the architectures
except for amd64.

I suggest you define DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE with the output of
dpkg-architecture -qDEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE and use that instead.

I haven't tested that at all though.

Bug#844804: Cannot reproduce

severity 844804 important
tags 844804 + unreproducible
thanks

Hi Lucas,

I'm taking the liberty to lower the severity of this bug, as I can't reproduce
on a current sid pbuilder chroot.

I am thinking this might have been caused by the openssl mess, etc.

libsnmp-dev is definitely installable here, and my build succeeds:
dpkg-deb: building package 'zabbix-server-pgsql' in
'../zabbix-server-pgsql_3.0.5+dfsg-1_amd64.deb'.

If you could revisit this bug and close if you think it was a transient
uninstallability problem, please go ahead.

Bug#781524: fcgiwrap: socket is not created and service is not up, but it works after a reboot

have to reboot fot things to work as expected, so I'm setting
serious here in the hope that a fix for this is accepted in jessie.

Is this under systemd or sysvinit?

However, if for whatever reason there is not an easy fix for this,
then please feel free to downgrade severity, I don't want this package
 to be removed from jessie.

Ok, after a little bit more of testing, I found that this works just
 after installing the package:

 service fcgiwrap start

 but then one might wonder:

 1. If the service is started after a reboot, why it is not started
after installing it for the first time, as every sane package usually
 does?

 2. If service fcgiwrap restart does not work, why an error message
is not shown? (even a message just saying sorry, restart not
supported would be orders of magnitude better than not saying
 anything).

This should be supported. But let's try to find out what codepath is being
called, depending on your init system (reportbug would have given us that
info!)

It's interesting we've only got one bug report like this in Debian, so

Bug#710144: sl-modem-daemon: Depends on non-existant lib32asound2

Hi,

sl-modem-daemon depends on lib32asound2, which is no longer available
in unstable. This dependency probably needs to be replaced by an upgrade
path to a Multi-Arch environment, so amd64 users just use the i386 binary.

Have a look at how other packages in your situation (wine, etc.) have dealt
with this.

Should I do something about stable too? The codebase should be really

No, it's quite new: it was available in a SVN version for quite some long
time, and in experiemntal for about a week.

Unfortunately the maildir-utils package ships the mu binary since
some time, it is a tool for indexing and searching maildir format
 mboxes.

 How do resolve this problem?

I just forwarded this upstream. I see two exits:

- the obvious conflict between the two packages: sad but acceptable
- GNU Mailutils upstream renames the MU binary

Any other idea?

Upstream isn't interested in renaming the program. For now, I'm uploading
a package that adds a conflicts against yours. We both have a low userbase
and don't think this will be problematic for many people, if at all.

Please tell me if you have any comment about this.

I considered renaming my binary, but I really don't want to deviate that
much from upstream.

Bug#622897: Can we please upload a new webalizer?

2012-01-29 Thread Jordi Mallach
Hi Julien and Felipe,

It's now a full year since I offered to test, review and sponsor Julien's
package update. I have been using it during all this time, and have had no
problem at all. Actually, it has fixed so many problems wrt the old
version, it's not fair nobody else is taking advance of Julien's effort.

Can we please upload the package now? The perfect is the enemy of the
good, and this bug report really shows.

The current package was already outdated in squeeze and probably in lenny
and the last time it was in a releasable state in wheezy was too long ago.

Please, someone upload whatever Julien has today, and lets fix the
remaining issues in other uploads.

Again, I'm available as a sponsor, reviewer and tester.

Sure, but

I still don't see how the license change is legal at all. With the 1.1

both licenses, and wether Adaptive Computing was allowed to change the
licence is arguably something Debian doesn't need to worry about, unless
the original copyright owner sues AC or whatever.

This is getting offtopic for @security.d.o though. :)

I agree, that's too much impact. I've marked it as no-dsa in the security
 tracker.

This likely has no impact in reality anyway; anyone running a computation
cluster will keep it w/o untrusted users anyway.

Agreed.

Will you be updating to a MUNGE-enabled version of Torque before Wheezy?

We should upgrade to the latest 2.5 release, however there's a note from
Dominique stating there was a license change in 2.5.x so I'm not sure we
we're at. The only significant change I can see in the licence is:

-8-8--8-
This license will be governed by the laws of Utah, without reference to
its choice of law rules.
-8-8--8-

which swaps Virginia with Utah. If the licence was ok for main in the
past, it should be ok for main now.

If we are allowed to, I think we should move to Torque 2.5, and see what
we want to do about 3.0. If/when we do that, I'll add CVE refs to the
changelog.

When you upgraded from 1.6.x, you must have got a dpkg conffile upgrade

the new configuration proposal.

This left you with a configuration referencing /var/run/tinyproxy.pid and
/var/log/tinyproxy.log for PidFile and LogFile. This, mixed to tinyproxy
now dropping privileges much earlier in the startup sequence (a good
thing), caused your problem.

Compare your /etc/tinyproxy/tinyproxy.conf with

2012-01-03 Thread Jordi Mallach
severity 627503 important
tag 627503 - security
retitle 627503 Validate Port directive value

A small summary of what's going on with this:

- The Debian security team does not consider this to be a security issue
as tinyproxy's configuration file is under the control of the admin, and
an exploit needs changing the Port value to something that can trigger a
  buffer overflow.

- This was fixed anyway in a Debian patch in 1.8.2-2, which is currently
  in testing and unstable.

- 1.8.3-1, recently uploaded to unstable, is the first upstream release to
  officially include this fix.

- We're uploading 1.8.2squeeze2 to stable so the fix appears in the next
point release anyway, via the normal t-p-u path.

Thanks,

The second issue, CVE-2011-2907, is still unfixed in stable.

My read of the Bugzilla log was that Redhat didn't actually fix the
issue, but provided a workaround, by enabling Munge support.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713090#c6

As far as I can tell, our torque version doesn't support munge, and they
did an upgrade to 2.5.7 to provide munge support.

Even so, Munge appears to require distributing auth tokens, keys or
whatever before a munge-enabled cluster is operational, so this is quite a
change for a DSA, not to mention the version bump if we went that route.

As far as I can tell, there is no real fix, and upstream doesn't seem
interested, as they seem to be promoting munge, or claiming you should
have a firewall.

http://www.clusterresources.com/pipermail/torqueusers/2011-August/013195.html

The idea behind this is that a Torque cluster is assumed to be under
control, including all submitting hosts. If someone gains root access to
one of the hosts in the cluster, not only they can submit hosts to the
torque server, but do other fun things as well, unrelated to torque. Yes,
I think this is way a bit too much of assumption, but it seems this is
what settled the issue upstream.

Sorry, I actually had looked this up two months ago or so, but had dropped
the ball before mailing the Security team.

Thanks,

Bug#646000: RM: jalali-calendar: dead upstream; blocks GNOME 3 transition

2011-11-05 Thread Jordi Mallach
reassign 646000 ftp.debian.org
retitle 646000 RM: jalali-calendar: dead upstream; blocks GNOME 3 transition
thanks

Please remove jalali-calendar from the Debian archive:

The several code hosting services that have jalali-calendar code are all
outdated and idle for several years, including Gna, which seems to be the
last active one.

It does not seem this package is getting any updates to make it usable
again on GNOME3, so it should be removed entirely.

Please remove topshelf from the archive. It appears to be dead upstream
(last commit early 2008) and no efforts have been found to migrate to the
new GNOME Panel interface. This package is now useless and can be removed
from Debian entirely.

Please remove ows from the archive: it has not had any relevant upstream
activity since 2007, has low popcon and is blocking the GNOME3 transition.
It certainly doesn't look like this will be ported to GNOME3 any time
soon.

The Debian maintainer/upstream author was contacted but got no reply.

Bug#638076: libpanel-applet transition: please upload a fix to unstable

2011-10-14 Thread Jordi Mallach
Hi,

The GNOME 3 transition has started and it's time to upload fixes for the
panel applets to unstable. If a fix isn't available or doable, please disable
applet support; otherwise, your package will we removed from testing in
order to complete the transition.

Bugs concerning this migration are now considered release critical and
will be updated to serious severity following this email.

Thanks,
Jordi, on behalf of the GNOME team.

Bug#645225: NMU uploaded

2011-10-14 Thread Jordi Mallach
Hi,

As the big GNOME upload was faster than I expected, I took the liberty to
upload this to the archive. Sorry for the lack of time to react on your
end.

Attached is the final patch I applied; I used the opportunity to add a
missing dependency on evo-data-server, as fixed by the Ubuntu packages.

Thanks!

Bug#635342: CVE-2011-2193: Multiple buffer overflows

Hi!

On Mon, Jul 25, 2011 at 09:10:09PM -0400, Dominique Belhachemi wrote:

Jordi, can you help out with the squeeze fix and upload? I think you
have done those things before, right?

I have prepared a package in SVN which is ready for upload. Before doing
so, Moritz, can you look at this additional patch I found in the 2.4 SVN
branch?

svn diff -r4780:4781 svn://svn.clusterresources.com/torque/branches/2.4-fixes

What do you think, should we add that too? There are no additional CVEs
for Torque, apparently so maybe this can't be used as an attack vector?

Packages (without this second patch) are in my homedir in people.d.o, and
signed. I'm going offline until monday morning, so if you check them out
and see everything looks good, feel free to move them to the queue.

Thanks,

Bug#614369: vsftpd: Does not create ftp user if a username starting with 'ftp' already exists

2011-02-21 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: vsftpd
Version: 2.3.2-3
Severity: serious

Hi,

Configurando vsftpd (2.3.2-3) ...
vsftpd user (ftp) already exists, doing nothing.
chown: grupo inválido: «root:ftp»
dpkg: error al procesar vsftpd (--configure):
el subproceso instalado el script post-installation devolvió el código de
salida de error 1

This is due to the postinst check not checking for the existance of the
'ftp' user, but any user starting with 'ftp':

if ! getent passwd | grep -q ^${_USERNAME}
then
adduser --system --home ${_DIRECTORY} --no-create-home
--quiet --gecos 'ftp daemon' --group ${_USERNAME}
elif
...

Using gettent passwd ftp should probably be more useful. Also, this
check would assume the group already exists, which isn't the case if you
migrate from eg. proftpd.

Bug#600578: grub-common: grub-mkrelpath does not return any output when processing non-root ZFS filesystems

2010-10-18 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: grub-common
Version: 1.98+20100804-4
Severity: serious
Tags: fixed-upstream

grub-mkrelpath detects and correctly processes root ZFS volumes. However,
it does not return anything when processing any other ZFS volumes.

To make it more obvious, these are the results of tests on a system setup
with a ZFS volume for /, and an additional ZFS volume for /boot (needed as
GRUB does not support ZFS with volume arrays).

This breaks grub.cfg generation on this kind of GNU/kFreeBSD setup, and is
already fixed upstream in commits 2881..2883:

This looked very strange, it's been a long time a Debian security upgrade
breaks like this on me. changelog.Debian revealed there's been a big
version jump in the version offered by stable-security and s-p-u; from
1.8.2 to 1.8.13; the dependencies of the former do list wwwconfig-common
as a dependecy, while the new package doesn't.

Manually installing wwwconfig-common did help the update finish.

Have there been any packaging changes not documented in the changelog?

Bug#573220: Sponsor

Hi Benoit,

Three months have passed since this week. If the only problem is getting
a sponsor for the package, I'm sure at least a dozen Debian developers are
monitoring this bug report. Just post an URL to a source package or a VCS
repo where we can fetch this and I'm sure this upload will happen really
quick.

Jordi

(the VCS listed in the current package does not have any commits after the

Bug#572514: Listen directive doesn't work as expected

2010-03-04 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: tinyproxy
Version: 1.8.0-1
Severity: serious
Tags: fixed-upstream

Tinyproxy 1.8.0 can in some cases bind only to the loopback interface
instead of 0.0.0.0 wildcard, as happened with 1.6.3. This is a serious
enough regression to make it not safe for testing transition, so I'm filing
bug to block it.

The bug is already fixed upstream and will be released as 1.8.1 next week.

thanks

I've posted a debug run of the testsuite to the upstream mailing list
bug-mailutils:

 http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-mailutils/2009-11/msg1.html

Unfortunately Sergey doesn't appear to be available at the moment, and we
have no DejaGNU expertise. We would really need someone who can point what's
going on in the logs.

If anyone thinks disabling the testsuite is tempting, the failing test is
actually a check for a vulnerability that triggered DSA-732, so no thanks. :)

Due to the urgency, I haven't been able to build on amd64 (I have
no 64bit hardware at home), and have reverted the Architecture change
for -doc to Arch: all. I couldn't figure out why that was changed,
and lintian didn't tell me anything helpful. Can you explain, Elimar?

Bug#518231: linux-image-2.6.28-1-powerpc: Fails to configure due to a debconf error

2009-03-04 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: linux-image-2.6.28-1-powerpc
Version: 2.6.28-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

Hi,

I tried installing linux-image-2.6.28-1-powerpc from experimental but it
failed to configure:

run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/mkvmlinuz exited with return code 20

I added set -x to this script, which revealed:

+ _db_cmd GET mkvmlinuz/bootloaders
+ IFS= printf %s\n GET mkvmlinuz/bootloaders
+ IFS= read -r _db_internal_line
+ RET=20 Unsupported command update-initramfs: (full line was
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-1-powerpc) received from
confmodule.
+ return 20

My system has the not so usual feature of using GRUB2 instead of yaboot for
booting, and I suspect I'm probably the only one doing this on this on
powerpc.

yaboot was installed, and the mkvmlinux/bootloaders debconf variable was
set to yaboot, it turned out.

This bug seems a reincarnation of this Ubuntu bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kernel-package/+bug/54346

The following patch to postinst fixed it for me, although I'm not sure its
the right fix.

libs and tools? Any help from the _team_ would be *very helpful*!

Would you foresee any problem with having alsa-source 1.0.17 and alsa-lib
1.0.16 in lenny? I don't, and in fact I think having 1.0.17 would be better as
it would match the ALSA in 2.6.26 (it would actually compile).

Furthermore, is there any problem with having kernel 2.6.26 (which includes
alsa drivers version 1.0.17) and alsa-lib 1.0.16 in lenny as we have now, or
would it be desirable to have 1.0.17 just to match the kernel version? (I'm
thinking about configuration file missmatches and so on, mostly).

Regarding creating a branch, it should be as easy as a cp of trunk to
branches/lenny using the revision with the last changes to 1.0.16, and I'll be
able to handle that, don't worry.

Sorry for the lack of action, I'm also quite a bit busy and regret that need to
be pinged by you constantly to take action. :/

Depending on what you think about these questions, I'll do something or the
other.

Bug#461998: merging

forcemerge 489112 471759 461998
thanks

At this point, I'm now considering disabling the testsuite, as it seems
some change in either the toolchain or dejagnu broke it and I haven't
been able to discover where the problem lies.

This FTBFS is now affecting lenny, where the package built some months
ago.

I know this is lame, but my option right now are either drop mailutils
or not run the testsuite until we get more info. I can try to get a
better fix during the freeze if one is found and push it via t-p-u if
it's worth it.

I'm seeing this very same error with the new upstream release 1.9.91 (in
SVN). As this has been building on i386 previously, it seems something
in the toolchain changed and broke mailutils.

Unfortunately, my dejagnu skills are quite limited and I request help
from someone who might want to have a look at this.

You can get a lot more out from make check if you run

  make check RUNTESTFLAGS=-v -v -v --debug

I recently reported this upstream, but I still got no response

Bug#483918: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#483918: Bug#483918: alsa-driver - binary only code

Wrt to alsa-source, what's the point of the package anyway? This

Many people get their newer hardware working thanks to updating their
drivers to the latest ALSA release, while the linux-image drivers remain
silent. It is a package we need to keep.

Bug#459933: Makefile.in.in is not DFSG-free

2008-01-09 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: intltool
Version: 0.37.0-1
Severity: serious

The file Makefile.in.in has the following header:

# This file file be copied and used freely without restrictions. It can
# be used in projects which are not available under the GNU Public License
# but which still want to provide support for the GNU gettext functionality.
# Please note that the actual code is *not* freely available.
#
# - Modified by Owen Taylor [EMAIL PROTECTED] to use GETTEXT_PACKAGE
# instead of PACKAGE and to look for po2tbl in ./ not in intl/
#
# - Modified by jacob berkman [EMAIL PROTECTED] to install
# Makefile.in.in and po2tbl.sed.in for use with glib-gettextize
#
# - Modified by Rodney Dawes [EMAIL PROTECTED] for use with intltool

Which makes it DFSG non-free. The bug is even worse if you take into
account that this file is part of the bootstrap of many programs in the
GTK+ world, so the problem is quite widespread among GNOME source
packages in Debian.

This file originates from GNU gettext, but has changed quite a bit since
the fork, and it may not be trivial to rediff. The newer gettext do ship
Makefile.in with the following header, which would be OK, though:

# This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it

releasing etch is 80 but should be zero;)

As far as I know, we can safely ignore the bug. Kernel 2.4 won't be
maintained in etch, so this source package will go away.

This opens the question wether we want to migrate alsa-modules-i386 to
linux 2.6, and make it multiple archiecture capable.

He didn't have transcoded fonts installed, and apparently xaw3d isn't

Wow, this is pretty embarrasing. I didn't have a fully upgraded box at

then I went for easter vacation until today.

linux-2.6 2.6.12 (source) and linux-image-2.6.12 is in unstable. Watch
out, package names have changed.

Looking at the udev .068 package in unstable, it looks like there are
plenty of problems that'll make it quite some time before it is moved to
 testing.

About 585 other packages in testing seem to depend on the testing
version of udev. This seems to be the only package in testing that
requires an unstable version of a tool that would break dependencies of
 so many other packages.

This is because it slipped into testing. If we had noticed, we would
have prevented this with a dummy RC bug, but it's late now.

glibc should enter testing, hopefully, in a week or so. We can only wait
for that at this point.

If nothing, could this be rebuilt for testing with the testing version
of udev (.056-3)? At least until udev resolves their many issues and
get's a newer version into testing...

Maybe the easiest is to rebuild current udev in a testing box, and
install the new kernel from unstable (that won't have any dependency
problem).

That, or wait. We're really focused on ALSA 1.0.10, so we'd like to keep
going. When new versions of glibc get stuck, testing suffers in many
ways. This is one of them. :(

Bug#312406: Think this is related

2005-06-15 Thread Jordi Mallach
Jim,

I just discovered this bug report at bugs.debian.org. Sunday night
I did an apt-get upgrade; apt-get dist-upgrade on my Sid box. Gnome
is now utterly and completely broken. It starts up, and the gnome-panel
application begins to crash and restart repeatedly, popping up the App
has quit unexpectedly window every time. Clicking the button to notify
the developers brings up bug-buddy, which then begins crashing and
restarting as well. Eventually a ctrl-alt-backspace is required to kill X and
restart it. I was hoping this was a temporary problem and would be fixed
right away, but it's 2 days later, I did another apt-get update, upgrade,
and dist-upgrade, got a new gnome-core, and it's still broken. It is not
related to the previous configuration files. I created an entirely new test
user account with an empty home directory, logged in, and got the same
 problem with that account.

Sent from my gmail account because I can't get into Evolution now...

Try stopping the HAL daemon, and if that helps, you either:
- need to upgrade to Linux 2.6, or
- need to upgrade to the libc6 in experimental, which will be uploaded
  soon to unstable (we hope)

Bug#312406: gnome-core does install on my system!

I very recently upgraded my sid system with apt-get and gnome-core (as
well as gnome-panel etc.) is upgraded.

Does this mean that the transition is complete or is it still ongoing and
 can there be similar bugs?

No, gnome-core will be upgraded again maybe today, maybe tomorrow, when
the last few packages (just three pending) enter unstable.
