Bug#323200: mozilla-browser: gcc4 problem in the libimglib2.so module

2005-08-15 Thread Luke Schierer
Package: mozilla-browser
Version: 2:1.7.10-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

according to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311035#c7,
which a bug I submitted was marked duplicate of, gcc4 generates bad
code in the libimglib2.so module, and this is a known bug, posted
upstream (mozilla) at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293307

and that applying a patch (there appear to be several that have been
rejected in the mozilla bug) fixes it for the reporter of the gnome
bug.

as this bug leaves me unable to effectively use galeon and epiphany, I
considered this a grave bug, since it seems more than just important
but is breaking related packages, not unrelated so does not seem to
fit critical.

Gaim attempts to sign on, but at the point where it should show the

 output.

Bug#313395: gaim seqfaults on startup

2005-06-13 Thread Luke Schierer
Do you have gaim-encryption loaded?

we recently found (and reported to them) a bug in their code which
would cause gaim to crash if you load it with a different version of
gaim from what it was compiled with.

a bug (a missing comma) was recently (friday-ish) found in
gaim-encryption that would cause it to crash gaim when loaded by a
version of gaim other than that it was compiled with.

Bug#313395: gaim-encryption crash from version miss-match

2005-06-13 Thread Luke Schierer
We (gaim upstream) tracked this down and reported it to
gaim-encryption Friday-ish. In the gaim-encryption code there is a
test that reads more or less
if (VERSION != gaim_get_version())
(treat the above as psuedo code, one of the other gaim developers did
the actual work, I'm going from memory here)
followed by a gaim_debug line. the following line was only called
when you load the plugin with a different version of gaim from what
it was compiled against, and was missing a comma. not sure why/how
it got past gcc, but it did.

Why? It's definitely feasible to compile gaim plugins without pkg-config

 using GTK.

Correct, it is. core plugins, such as autorecon.c (distributed with
gaim) do not need gtk, nor do prpls such as the sametime plugin
developed by meanwhile.sf.net

gaim-gnome was discontinuted starting with the 0.60 release, we
(upstream) removed the gnome code from gaim. as a result, it would
only be installable on a woody system at this point.

Shouldn't then gaim-gnome be removed from list of avalaible packages for
sid?

regards, julian.
