No, X is installed but it wasn't running. I tried the

It would help, but I think it isn't enough. Given the following
sequence calibre would have failed to start.

- upgrade or reinstall calibre (all *.pyc are cleaned up)
- run calibre as root (they are created again)
- upgrade python-dateutil.

Hi,

python -c "from six.moves import _thread" does apparently nothing and
exits with 0. Is this expected?

The version of python-six on my system is 1.10.0-4 (current testing)
and if it was broken I think calibre wouldn't start with only
downgrading python-dateutil.

Bug#779468: apt-spy: creates an invalid sources list

2015-02-28 Thread Manolo Díaz
Package: apt-spy
Version: 3.2.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

After showing a lot of lines like

Couldn't find country AT . Skipping.
Couldn't find country AU . Skipping.
Couldn't find country BE . Skipping.
...

your package creates a sources list file without any mirror. Example:

deb (null) testing main #contrib non-free
deb-src (null) testing main #contrib non-free

Also, it fails to update the mirror list due the the lack of
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/README.mirrors.txt

Manolo Díaz

Hi,

Instead of patching and building those package I've downloaded them
from incoming, just because it's a bit more comfortable to me.

I've made two tests.

One simulates that I'm upgrading graphviz and libgvc5 from current
stable:

graphviz 2.26.3-14+deb7u1 - graphviz 2.38.0-5
libgvc5 2.26.3-14+deb7u1 - libgvc6 2.38.0-5

No problems at all even after purging the previously removed libgvc5.

The second test consists in upgrading from current testing to the new
version:

graphviz 2.38.0-4 - graphviz 2.38.0-5
libgvc6 2.38.0-4 - libgvc6 2.38.0-5

No problems either.

Thanks, Matthias

/usr/lib/graphviz/config6

Since debian-security-support installed very well in several other

Bug#706651: The documentation is somewhat contradictory

2013-05-03 Thread Manolo Díaz
retitle 706651 The documentation is somewhat contradictory
severity 706651 normal

Hi,

In /usr/share/doc/file-rc/README is read

No special tool required, you can use your favorite editor
to maintain the configuration manually.

but in /usr/share/doc/file-rc/NEWS.Debian.gz is read

This means that the sequence numbers and runlevels
in /etc/runlevel.conf will be rewritten and will not preserve manual
changes made by the admin.

The documentation is a bit confusing and contradictory. I don't see the
point of doing changes that will be lost. It seems that it has changed
its behaviour without updating the entire documentation.

So yes, you're right. It's by design.

If I haven't missunderstood those lines they refer to install or
uninstall file-rc itself. I don't think any package is designed to
violate the Debian guidelines.

Add to that the following excerpt from the README [1]:

To be on the save side, the alternate rc only prints the commands
  it would execute for now.
The disadvantages (which don't apply to the method with links) as far
  as I can see them:

   * Modifications require the whole file to be rewritten, which
 is a source for errors.

Of course, all startup and shutdown sequence is managed by a single
file. It couldn’t be otherwise.

So file-rc looks rather like a bit experimental to me and this bug
should not qualify as a release blocker in my opinion.

All right, popcon says its use is marginal. Feel free to downgrade the
severity, tag it wheezy-ignore or whatever you think is better.

This package only appears to have had a single upload in its history,
over two years ago, and wasn't in squeeze. Unless a fix for this is
forthcoming in the next day or so then I'll remove the package from
wheezy.

And there's a working alternative. It can be emulated with

See above ,the author did it.
Attached is a trace using the original /usr/lib/savi/savi file.

It may caused by your /bin/sh, isn't it dash or bash ?
This script get the directory which contains itself first,
 stored in $SAVI.

But if do this job like you,
   cd /usr/lib/savi; sh ./savi
 the $SAVI will be just . , then $SAVIBIN will be ./bin/SaVi

 while if sh /usr/lib/savi/savi
 $SAVI will be /usr/lib/savi
and then $SAVIBIN will be /usr/lib/savi/bin/SaVi

Was your shell processing these above correctly ?

Yes, my shell is /bin/dash (the standard in Debian). But my shell
doesn't process that way because there is NOT /vmlinuz
nor /boot/vmlinuz in my system, but /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.39-3. I've
realized this after reading your mail.

This way [ -f /etc/debian_version ] (line 85) never is evaluated and
ARCH remains unknown, hence SAVI is empty and SAVIBIN set to bin/SaVi.

TESTED. Soft-linking /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.39.3 to /boot/vmlinuz, the savi
package just as you provide it (aptitude reinstall savi) works.

 ===

 ===

Yes, it was only a quick and dirty solution not a real fix. But I
thought it was useful to locate the bug.

I will upload a new version to fix some other problems:
   * put all files to /usr/share/savi except the ELF file.
   * fix a problem that geomview cannot get oogl files.

This version may fix your problem, but I am not very sure about it,
so, I will not close this bug in changelog.
You can test it and if it did fix your problem, then we can close
 it then.

SaVi 1.4.5-2

I can confirm that the problem related to oogl files IS fixed, but
still depends on the existence of /vmlinuz or /boot/vmlinuz file to
start up. If that file MUST exist in a standard Debian installation
(I'm not sure, think of the multi-kernel systems) I should downgrade
the severity to whislist and retitle de bug report.

2011-07-11 Thread Manolo Díaz
Package: savi
Version: 1.4.5-1
Severity: grave

Hi,
When I try to start savi this is what you read:

SaVi: did not attempt to launch a missing binary executable.

After editing /usr/bin/savi and replacing

sh /usr/lib/savi/savi $*

with

cd /usr/lib/savi
sh ./savi $*

the application starts.

Best Regards,
Manolo.

YunQiang Su wzss...@gmail.com wrote:

Could you give me more details about how you start it?

 I cannot reproduce it.

Two ways:

Alone from the command line:

$~ savi
SaVi: did not attempt to launch a missing binary executable.

please note the home directory

Through Geomview

$~ geomview -run savi
SaVi: did not attempt to launch a missing binary executable.

At this point Geomview starts but SaVi doesn't.

Now, if I change from home directory to /usr/lib/savi Savi works
both ways.

Well, I think the bug is in the file /usr/lib/savi/savi, line 71.
The variable SAVIBIN is set to bin/SaVi which is only correct when
the working directory is /usr/lib/savi. Changing this line to
SAVIBIN=${SAVI}/bin/SaVi fix things for me.

Attached is a trace using the original /usr/lib/savi/savi file.

Great news :)

So for the moment, you'll either need to be patient, and/or stick with
the dovecot 1.2.x releases. There will be packages supporting 2.x as
soon as the work that needs to be done is done.

Sorry to be so impatient and thanks for your explanation.

Bug#631143: I'm afraid that dovecot-antispam is only useful for Debian stable and earlier

2011-06-25 Thread Manolo Díaz
Hi,

After reading the previous mail from Yuri, the bug report #625188 and
having seen the latest development tree in which does not appear the
file antispam-storage-2.0.c, I'm afraid dovecot-antispam is only useful
for Debian stable and earlier, that is, those having dovecot = 1.2.x

In addition, the development of dovecot-spam seems to have stopped on
March 12 (http://git.sipsolutions.net/?p=dovecot-antispam.git).

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,
Trying to get dovecot-antispam working as dspam backend I always get
these two lines in /var/log/mail.err:

dovecot: imap: Error: Module is for different version 1.2.15:
/usr/lib/dovecot/modules/imap/lib90_antispam_plugin.so
dovecot: imap: Fatal: Couldn't load required plugins

then dovecot starts but rejects any attempt to login.
I'm using dovecot 1:2.0.13-1.

Yes, I was trying examples from this page:

But it also happens when I call whitedune with no args, with no input

I must say that there was no problem using an i386 platform (see
attached file, please).

Can you recompile the sources and then run the debugger ?

I've tried to build a package with non-striped binaries, but
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip has failed for me. I've used the non-stripe
dune renamed as whitedune. Both backtraces, calling and without calling
input files, are attached.

Do this problem also occure on the current versions of white_dune ?

Bug#531220: nut.conf overwritten during reinstall with not prompting

2009-06-28 Thread Manolo Díaz
El Sun, 28 Jun 2009 21:47:28 +0200
Arnaud Quette aquette@gmail.com escribi:

 Hi Daniel and Manolo,

nut.conf is listed as a conffile (automagically by dh_installdeb).
but the issue is probably the MODE reprocessing at postinst which
fails when it is source'able (ie MODE=... without spaces). this
result in an empty string (MODE=).

can you confirm that you end up with the same result?

 cheers,
 Arnaud

Hi,

doing 'dpkg-reconfigure nut' it will change the line 'MODE=standalone'
to 'MODE=' in the file /etc/nut/nut.conf

But if I previously change 'MODE=standalone' to 'MODE =standalone' or to
'MODE = standalone' the space(s) will be removed and nut will start.
'MODE= standalone' will fail too.

So yes, I think your guesses are right.

Regards,

Bug#519330: [stellarium] The culprit could be libgl1-mesa-glx

2009-05-16 Thread Manolo Díaz
Package: stellarium
Version: 0.10.2-1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,

Valgrin shows a lot of lines talking about invalid read/write size
in /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2. After installing libgl1-mesa-swx11 instead of
libgl1-mesa-glx Stellarium works again. It is too much slow, but
doesn't segfault.

I was not able to reproduce the crash on an amd64 machine this

Also, looking at the back trace does not clearly show that Stopmotion
is the problem. It might just trigger the crash.

Anyways, I'll create a new package now.

Building your package from scratch (0.6.2-1) I've found *no* problems
at all. Thanks again.

Bug#436177: I think the problem is in gcj

2007-08-08 Thread Manolo Díaz

Hi all,

I've experienced a similar problem trying to launch freemind

from top command:

23498 yo16 0 3158m 1.6g 4004 S4 83.3 0:26.79 java

1.6GB is too much even for the jvm. After waiting for several minutes freemind
isn't launched and I have to kill the process. The same occurs if I try to
launch eclipse.

In my system /usr/bin/java is provided by the package gij-4.1
(version 4.1.1-20).

Best Regards.

 Hi,

Hi,

You are right. The same here; simply rebuilding netsurf from source
without changes it works for me too. It seems that the package

libcurl4-openssl isn't needed at all for netsurf to properly work.

 Perhaps a binNMU is due?
I couldn't tell you, I'm not an expert.

Manolo.

Bug#421378: User configuration directory ~/.pida was the problem

2007-05-01 Thread Manolo Díaz
Hi,
The problem must be due the user config dir for a previous version
of pida: removing ~/.pida it works fine again.

Please, downgrade the severity of this bug as appropriate since it
*doesn't* render the package unusable.

Best Regards,
Manolo

Bug#401345: builds fine here..

Three different ways:
1st using module-assistant.
2nd using kernel-package (make-kpkg modules).
3rd manually, with KVERS and KSRC correctly set.
Always the same errors.

I'm using kernel sources from linux-source-2.6.18 (2.6.18-6). What sources did
you use?

I've tried building the spca5xx-source in an unstable amd64 pbuilder,
then installing the spca5xx-source package and building that with
 module-assistant which
 produces /usr/src/modass/spca5xx-modules-2.6.18-3-amd64_20060501-2
 +2.6.18-6_amd64.deb

How did you reach the error?

Hi,

I've just tried to reproduce this in an AMD64 sid chroot and can't. Do
you have any more details which might help us reproduce it?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi,
yes, it's not a grave bug: removing ~/.ddd directory ddd starts again.

To reproduce the bug both, a customized ~/.ddd/init file and ~/.ddd/lock
file that contains a wrong hostname (i.e. you have changed it since last ddd
session), are needed.

Attached you have the files that cause ddd fails to start on my system. Removing
lock file or changing the hostname inside to the right one things go fine.

All that means it's a very unlikely bug. Sorry for the noise.

Manolo

Bug#352732: I can't see this bug anymore

2006-06-27 Thread Manolo Díaz

Hi,

Some months ago I filled this bug but now I can't reproduce it. I have tested
several options: nvidia-glx (1.0.8762-2), libgl1-mesa-glx (6.4.2-1) and
libgl1-mesa-swx11 (6.4.2-1). These are the results:

*nvidia-glx*:
works great.

*libgl1-mesa-glx*:
It doesn't work at all. It seems that libgl1-mesa-glx doesn't support my
graphic card and shows

nStars: 112524
*** Cannot find the double-buffered visual.
*** Trying single-buffered visual.
*** No appropriate OpenGL-capable visual found.

but there is no crash.

*libgl1-mesa-swx11*:
so slow that makes this package nearly unusable but works without
crashes.

So please close this bug if appropriate.

Best Regards,
Manolo

Hi Manolo,

 Hi Steve,

Yes, I've found this bug in binaries from ftp.debian.org and
ftp.es.debian.org; in sources from sourceforge.net (I've tried fbpanel
4.3; the same result) and from ftp.debian.org. These are the warnnings
 I've got while compiling:

Sorry Steve, I was thinking about the bug #360144 and I've given you a
wrong answer.

The answer is no. But now I get the bug #360144 which really renders the
package completely unusable for me.

Hi,

That's true for me. After recompiling this bug doesn't show but another
ones (less important) appears: not all windows are shown in the taskbar
and left/middle click on the show desktop button only iconify/shadows
some of all windows. All others things works fine for me. Have you
noticed something similar?

Bug#337797: I'm sure it's not only a nvidia-driver bug

   Hello, Manolo.

Your concept of it breaks the whole system is nice.

Sorry, it only hangs my system, I can reset it. What is the correct tag?.

I am to close your bug just because you use official nvidia non-free,
tainting, closed-source driver:

[...]
nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
 ACPI: PCI Interrupt :05:00.0[A] - Link [APC3] - GSI 18 (level, low)
   - IRQ 66 PCI: Setting latency timer of device :05:00.0 to 64
NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86_64 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7174 Tue Mar
   22 06:45:40 PST 2005

After inserting it, your system becomes untrustable.

Please, the next time you report a bug, explain clearly (not with a
 simple
Subject line) your problem, how to reproduce, your configuration, and any
other information. Please.

If you can reproduce the problem with the open driver, shipped by
 X.Org,
called 'nv', we will try to deal with it.

As I've told I tried both nv (xorg) and nvidia (propietary) drivers.

Well. Another machine (very similar):
