Bug#429457: init script doesn't delete pid file

2007-06-18 Thread Olleg Samoylov
Package: fcron
Version: 3.0.1-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch

I doesn't know why only I see it. /etc/init.d/fcron does not have rm -f
pidfile. And fcron on start see pid file and silently exit. The patch is

Oh, you were right. My filesystem was broken. This bug may be closed.

I got it from different ftp mirrors (ftp.task.gda.pl and
ftp.debian.org). Result the same. Sound more related to filesystem of
primary debian file server.

Bug#425367: grub-update freeze system on xfs root

2007-05-21 Thread Olleg Samoylov
Package: grub
Version: 0.97-27
Severity: grave

I prefer use xfs as root file system. grub-install always freeze total
system on linux installation or grub update. Manual installation grub
always fine.

I tried investigate script. Heh, mates, there are not logic at all.

# XFS needs special magic
xfs_frozen=false
if which xfs_freeze > /dev/null ; then
  cat << EOF
Due to a bug in xfs_freeze, the following command might produce a segmentation
fault when ${grubdir} is not in an XFS filesystem. This error is harmless and
can be ignored.
EOF
  if xfs_freeze -f ${grubdir} ; then xfs_frozen=true ; fi
fi

I can't undestand, why do you need freeze total filesystem? Do you plan write t
o stage1,2 or change it location in the same time? Even in this case your
freeze will not well, because location of files will be changed later and
grub-install will be had to rerun. If you want prevent writing in this files
better use linux lock on files, rather then freeze total filesytem. No matter,
this freeze is not needed at all.

Later you run:

$grub_shell --batch $no_floppy --device-map=$device_map <$log_file

And you try to write to file in the same filesystem. Bingo, script is locked.
And after killing script whole filesystem remain be freezed. You will not be
able even to login in linux with such root filesystem. Even soft reboot will
not work. Only hard reset button will help.

And very strange method to detect, when filesystem must be freezed. There may
be situations when filesystem is xfs, but have not xfs utils or there are xfs
utils but filesystem is not xfs.

I insist, all code about xfs filesystem is wrong, unnessesary and must be
removed.

Bug#387899: As I undestand ssl-thin.ads must be added as "alternative".

2006-09-17 Thread Olleg Samoylov
Package: libaws-dev
Version: 2.2-1
Severity: serious

I can't compile aws application.

rateme.adb:4:06: "Aws.Client (spec)" depends on "Aws.Net.Ssl (spec)"

But exists files ssl-thin__dummy.ads, ssl-thin__gnutls.ads,
ssl-thin__openssl.ads. As I undestand they are alternatives for
ssl-thin.ads and must be added debian "alternative" for this.

Bug#387896: libaws-dev depend on libtemplates-parser-dev

2006-09-17 Thread Olleg Samoylov
Package: libaws-dev
Version: 2.2-1
Severity: serious

rateme.adb:4:06: file "ai302.ads" not found

File ai302.ads belong to libtemplates-parser-dev and I have not this
package installed yet. IMHO libaws-dev must depend on
libtemplates-parser-dev.

Snmpget don't need snmpd to work. Does tinysnmpget need snmpd? Thus
dependence must be fixed.

Bug#305530: Video plugins

2005-05-17 Thread Olleg Samoylov
Kilian Krause wrote:
well, my rationale is easy enough. I'm entirely agreed that your
definition sounds logical to you, but as long as the average user cannot
run "ohphone -v" and then receive an informational message about missing
plugins, I do not want to face the new bugs telling "video does not
work". I'll see what upstream tells about this, yet I think we'll live
with these few 132kB installed (size of v4l.so). Having a virtual
Okey, 132kB is not large. My rationale is simple also. This is
disconform debian policy. Though, it is not great trouble. :-)

And there are four different video plugin and two audio. With both audio
plugin, oss or alsa, ohphone will work in debian linux. The only
difference if user is advanced enough to configure alsa, for instance
with dmix. But for such users is not problem change oss plugin to alsa.
:-) Thus audio plugin may be installed automaticaly. Though alsa plugin
is preferred.

What about video plugin? Is this universal video plugin to work with all
webcam? IMHO users must be faced to choose video plugin for his webcam.
Also unadvanced users often turn to install suggested packages by
default. Thus put video plugn in suggested is right.

Video plugin in "depends" looked like a maintainer mistake but don't
discomfort me. I don't insist. Keep my advise as an opinion from one of
the users.

Also I'll be satisfied if in ohphone-basic will be only audio with video
in suggested. ohphone-basic is version for minimalist, isn't it? :-)

Good luck.

why would you want to remove the video plugins? Not using them is up to

No. I have not a webcam and I don't plan buy it in future. Why I need
install software driver for absent hardware? What video driver I need to
install for absent webcam?

Well, here quotes from debian-policy.
The Depends field should be used if the depended-on package is required
for the depending package to provide a significant amount of functionality.

Without audio plugins ohphone don't even listen port. Audio plugin must
be in "depends".

Suggests
This is used to declare that one package may be more useful with one or
more others. Using this field tells the packaging system and the user
that the listed packages are related to this one and can perhaps enhance
its usefulness, but that installing this one without them is perfectly
reasonable.

Video plugin must be in "suggests" because installing without it on
system without a webcam is "perfectly reasonable".

May be will be convenient make virtual packages libpt-plugins-audio and
libpt-plugins-video? And put they in "depends" and "suggests".

Bug#305192: [CONFFILE][TRIVIAL] dpkg allow overwrite files by default

2005-04-18 Thread Olleg Samoylov
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.27
Severity: grave

Default dpkg.conf include force-overwrite. This is improper. All "force"
options must be setted by admin explicitly.

Severity is grave because this can lead to significant data lost in unstable

Also add /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg as conf file instead of copy in dpkg.postinst.
